00:00in today's video I want to show you how
00:02you can supercharge your 2024 theme for
00:05WordPress you know if you've been
00:06following this channel for a little
00:08while that I do love the 2024 theme I
00:10think it's one of the best uh default
00:12themes that we've had at the core of
00:14Wordpress in a long time and you can do
00:16a lot with it a lot is subjective of
00:19course when you compare this to a
00:20feature theme or a Page Builder theme
00:22but I think out of the box folks can get
00:24a little bit more creative these days
00:26with 2024 and especially with WordPress
00:296.5 coming which will introduce uh at
00:32the minimum some Google fonts right so
00:34that you could change these fonts
00:36without having to run the Gutenberg
00:37plugin however there is a new plug-in
00:40newi is uh it's got 10,000 active
00:43installs in the WordPress repo called TW
00:492024 with a twig the easy way to create
00:53stunning WordPress websites it's a
00:55plug-in that's going to allow you to
00:57enhance the 2024 theme uh which I'll
01:00show you in a little bit but then they
01:02have a uh new theme coming uh in in the
01:05future so it says join the wait list uh
01:08if you want to see their new theme uh
01:11there's no cost it's a free theme I
01:12don't know or it's a free plugin I don't
01:14know what the 20 theme is going to cost
01:17in the future so I'm running this now in
01:20the WordPress uh playground I have the
01:23TW plug-in already installed and what
01:26I've like about it so far is it's super
01:28lightweight I know that this one thing I
01:32don't want is a heavy plug-in with tons
01:36of things yelling at me screaming at me
01:39especially when I think the mindset if
01:41I'm ever using 2024 on a project like I
01:45run on Matt report like I run on
01:47breaking content these are two websites
01:49I really don't mess with a lot and I
01:51don't want a lot when I go back in
01:53because when I'm going in I'm just going
01:55in for like quick little fixes uh and I
01:57really appreciate that TW uh plugin at
01:59least at the time of this recording is
02:01very lightweight and this sort of
02:03jumping off point dare I say like
02:06onboarding screen is is fantastic for
02:09giving me the features that I just need
02:11uh we'll take a look at these website
02:12templates in a moment but it's giving me
02:13the quick links that a beginner might
02:16need like hey I want to quickly edit my
02:17header I want to edit my blog page how
02:19do I get to that managing Google fonts
02:22setting up a portfolio I always find it
02:24interesting that a lot of
02:26designers who uh build WordPress theme
02:30always have or generally have like a
02:32portfolio section um could be a Services
02:35section a portfolio photography section
02:38uh block patterns block settings uh join
02:40the club and then you can explore more
02:42about them let's first focus on
02:44importing a website template we're going
02:47to click on that it's going to bring us
02:48to the website template screen currently
02:51I am running the business theme which
02:542024 seems to do quite well out of the
02:57box uh so it's using a bit of the core
03:00blocks and patterns that 2024 has it's
03:03using it's augmenting that with some of
03:05the blocks and patterns that the TW uh
03:08plug-in provides and then it's sort of
03:10just building out that homepage Services
03:12page and blog page let me go uh and I'm
03:14just going to install it again so I'm
03:16going to click on import and you can see
03:18are you ready to import the business uh
03:21template it gives you a little bit of a
03:22warning and you can delete previously
03:24imported content which is pretty cool
03:25because you can kind of jump between
03:27these templates and try out the one that
03:29might work for you so I'm going to hit
03:31import again uh again I'm reimporting uh
03:34the same look and feel that I already
03:37had so here's the homepage again very
03:40close to uh what 2024 gives us by
03:43default might even actually be all the
03:48core blocks and patterns but the
03:51services page is pre-built for us uh I
03:54think the one thing that it might be
03:55bringing in is this particular pricing
03:58uh block is is I think different than
04:01the core 2024 theme the blog page is set
04:05up and styled for us already and then it
04:07has a contact page already set up and
04:10styled for us so about Services blog
04:12contact that's what you want out of your
04:15typical Business site so if you're
04:17Consulting with people and you're saying
04:19hey what's the what's the most
04:20lightweight approach for me to build a
04:22WordPress Business website out of the
04:24box with just one plug-in oneish plug-in
04:28then T is is a plugin that might be on
04:31your radar let's go back and we just
04:33going to do install one more
04:36um template so that we can see what the
04:39difference is so if I pick something
04:42like well we have the blog template we
04:44have a personal uh template so almost
04:46like a resume style let's preview that
04:48and see what that looks
04:50like so that's pretty cool um if you
04:52want something like a resume so we
04:54actually let's just go ahead and
04:55activate that one so we'll go ahead and
04:57hit import once again yes delete that
04:59previous stuff that you've created for
05:01me and click on import view the site
05:06very fast I can tell you that this is
05:08running in the playground which I've
05:09noticed is is actually uh been optimally
05:12enhanced uh since the last time I used
05:14it but very quick installs it very fast
05:17uh still has the services page yeah I
05:19guess that makes sense what I do about
05:21uh my services my clients this is all
05:25pre made for us let me move that screen
05:30which is really cool and then the blog
05:32style looks a little bit different than
05:34that business one and the contact page
05:36looks a little bit different than that
05:38first one when we go into the dashboard
05:40we'll go to the pages section you can
05:42see these are the pages that it pulled
05:44in for us and if I edit the
05:48services this is exactly what we saw on
05:50the front end this is all built with uh
05:53the blocks and the content that the TW
05:56uh plug-in imported from us for us and
05:58you can see all in the the left hand
06:00side these are all the blocks uh that
06:03this is being built with if we open up
06:06to the patterns you can see there are a
06:08lot more patterns here when you're
06:10running uh the TW plug-in so I'm kind of
06:15stuck between a rock and a hard place
06:16I've often like sort of uh uh ranted
06:20about how uh themes and plugins will
06:24color code their blocks uh color code
06:26their patterns sometimes you see like an
06:28animated GI and you're like what what
06:29are we doing here people there's only so
06:31much space so I wasn't really sure which
06:33ones were brought in from TW and which
06:36ones are core 2024 but this list is a
06:39lot longer and I can tell you simply
06:42pricing uh blocks alone and these
06:45pricing patterns I should say there's a
06:47lot more that twin TIG brings in uh for
06:51your 2024 customization pleasure uh
06:55there's a lot of stuff here so let's go
06:57back to the settings
07:01and you might say you know what I don't
07:03want that stuff on like I don't want the
07:06WordPress uh core block patterns I don't
07:09want the TW patterns you can turn these
07:12on and off as you see fit which is
07:15really cool uh this is kind of powerful
07:17for a free plug-in very simple uh but
07:20very clean uh and effective in my
07:22opinion here's the settings for the
07:25portfolio stuff I haven't seen this in a
07:27while this sort of makes me reminiscent
07:29of the old days of Wordpress themes uh
07:31where we had this baked in uh sort of Uh
07:35custom post type slug settings for for
07:38the portfolios I remember when jetpack
07:39launched this and it was introducing
07:41custom post types and people's minds
07:43were blown um this is just kind of
07:45brings me back to the old days the way
07:47that you can load in Google fonts is
07:49nice uh nice and lightweight I wonder
07:52what they'll do if they'll continue this
07:54when core WordPress has the Google fonts
07:57but you can simply start to search for
07:59the fonts that you want to be loaded uh
08:01which Styles uh if we find one that has
08:04more Styles let's just see what that
08:06does there it is that's a pretty cool
08:07way of doing it what it's saying is you
08:09get one and two fonts not a zillion not
08:12every single one in the in the Google
08:14library but here's the ones you that you
08:16can load and then which Styles I really
08:18like this approach because you're able
08:19to really drill it down um and of course
08:22host Google fonts locally to keep this
08:27possible so T Tig is a fantastic way to
08:31build sites one of the things I didn't
08:33really notice though if we go to
08:37editor is if we go into templates these
08:43new templates that they're pulling in
08:45there's a little bit of a lag because we
08:47are on the um the playground but I don't
08:51see a specific homepage template I think
08:54what they're doing even the blog home
08:56this is just blog actually was that
08:58right there in front of me and I'm I'm
09:00it this is it here but this is just the
09:07page maybe I'm confusing how templates
09:10work 100% here uh but fantastic oh here
09:14this is what I was looking for uh so
09:16pages single page with sidebar single
09:20posts index they're not running the
09:23index is just uh the posts and blog
09:27home is also just a blog post so I think
09:30they're just running the
09:32homepage at with the patterns and blog
09:35uh blocks as that homepage is not a
09:37particular template so let me just check
09:39this one more time template is page with
09:41no title yes so I was correct it's just
09:43a page with no title and then that hom
09:45pag is just being built right here uh
09:47this is the kind this is the way I kind
09:49of think about doing it uh give me a
09:52blank template and then let me build my
09:54homepage whereas I think 2024 is saying
09:57here's a template with all of the blocks
09:59and patterns in it already load that
10:01pattern as the homepage I think you
10:03could build it any way that that you see
10:05fit but I I do appreciate this way
10:06better it's just the way my mind works
10:09uh with blocks and patterns t uh pretty
10:13fantastic if you're looking for
10:14something super lightweight to customize
10:17uh your 2024 theme as I mentioned before
10:20they're going to have a new theme coming
10:23you can sign up on that email address or
10:24on their website at twin.com and get
10:28access uh to that new theme once it is
10:32available things uh again no pricing
10:34you're not buying anything not yet
10:35anyway quick start guide seems like
10:38there's uh just enough content there for
10:40you to understand how to get this thing
10:42going and then the support form is going
10:44to bring you to the WordPress uh.org
10:48support form I said 10,000 it's 20,000
10:52last updated 3 days ago uh in at the
10:54time of this recording says toolkit for
10:57Block themes um not spef specifically
10:59for 2024 so I I can understand how
11:01they're going to scale this up so
11:02they're focused on 2024 now maybe they
11:05pivot to their own theme and kind of
11:06enhance it there they go the sort of co-
11:08blocks route where it's just a uh a
11:11block plug-in for any WordPress theme uh
11:14that you might be running so interesting
11:16to see them focus on 2024 I think it'd
11:18be smart if they continue to focus on
11:202024 because I think it's a fantastic
11:22theme I'd love WordPress to continue to
11:25focus on 2024 and not just jump into
11:272025 which were about 10 months away
