00:08economy the Creator economy whatever it
00:11is it seems like everyone's having fun
00:12on the inside but here you are face
00:15press up to the glass and saying like uh
00:17I'm too old I'm not smart enough I'm not
00:19good-look enough I know it's hard to
00:20keep up my drip game ain't that and you
00:22you know what you're missing one of the
00:24biggest opportunities in your life in
00:26this video we're going to break down
00:27what the creater economy is and what you
00:29can do to capture some of this if
00:31nothing else it buys you a little bit of
00:33runway for whatever it is you're doing
00:35it might be extra spending money or to
00:37help you out through a rough patch in
00:38your life but more importantly it's to
00:41help you find out and discover this
00:43person that's inside of you and to share
00:45that with the world stick
00:49around all right Chris so you have been
00:51in the content marketing and content
00:54creation content business space for
00:55quite some time going on 10 years now if
00:57someone is entering into the space now
01:00and if someone wants or maybe they have
01:03a business model that isn't a Content or
01:05digital business right and they want to
01:08start exploring this as a revenue stream
01:10how might they do that what are some of
01:11the observations that you have around
01:13the content marketing space the content
01:15business so just right off the Jump just
01:16in case people don't understand the term
01:18Creator economy or media business can
01:21you just give us your perspective and
01:23your understanding of what that is given
01:25your background I I wish I had a perfect
01:26definition for you Mo so I'm just going
01:28to wing this one and just tell you what
01:29what my impression is so if you're
01:31watching this video like that's not what
01:32the Creator economy is about well I
01:35humbly apologize in advance that I may
01:37not have the definition I think what
01:40social media has given rise to this new
01:42class of creative intelligence work like
01:46where you can speak about something and
01:48there's multiple ways for you to
01:49generate a revenue stream from this and
01:51it's given birth to something that is
01:53not the stereotypical I'm going to go to
01:55work for someone from 9: to 5 5 days a
01:57week and it's a wonderful thing and I
02:00think this was ushered in in some some
02:02way by YouTube creating a platform for
02:04all of us to be broadcasters to create
02:07our own TV networks and to attract our
02:09own audience and build relationships
02:11with sponsors and YouTube makes it
02:13pretty easy for us to monetize and it's
02:15I use that word carefully to monetize
02:17our audience in that loow hanging fruit
02:20super passive income is you get AdSense
02:23Revenue so if your channel is speaking
02:26on topics that advertisers desire you
02:28have a higher CP M cost per thousand
02:31views and if you do something where it
02:33just not attracting the correct audience
02:36you get very low CPM so on the high end
02:38you might get $35 per thousand views on
02:41the low end you might get a dollar and
02:43that's a vast difference there so
02:45someone who has a million or 2 million
02:46or 100 million views but they're getting
02:48very low CPM you're not going to get
02:50paid very much and this is what we call
02:53like low hanging fruit because you don't
02:54actually literally have to do anything
02:55you don't have to field sponsors you
02:57don't have to do anything except for do
02:58what it is that you want to do to
03:00connect with your audience now our
03:02channel is such that in I guess our Peak
03:04we did
03:05$360,000 of Google ad sense YouTube
03:08Revenue money and for many people all
03:10over the world that's going to be a god-
03:12awful amount of money just for you being
03:14you and I think that's wonderful and
03:16when we look at the median income from
03:18developing countries it's going to be
03:20anywhere between $ to $110,000 annually
03:23so someone who is able to record or
03:25produce videos from their spare bedroom
03:26or their garage or basement making
03:28$360,000
03:30they're going to be making more money
03:31than doctors and attorneys do in their
03:33own country and that's a wild idea now I
03:36don't think our results are typical and
03:38I don't I'm not saying this to flex on
03:39anybody I'm just giving you a point of
03:41reference okay and if this is all you
03:44wanted to do this is great our friend
03:46unes Dinda never told us how much money
03:48he makes on his YouTube channel picks
03:50him perfect but basically he smiled and
03:52says I'm good and this guy routinely
03:55drops videos that gets hundreds of
03:57thousands of views within the first 24
03:58hours so he's on a different level than
04:00us that's just a point of reference
04:02there okay now we have to go beyond this
04:04to say like well if you're in America
04:08$360,000 is not enough to pay you for
04:10your content and for the team that
04:12ultimately has to show up to help you
04:13cuz this stuff does not happen by itself
04:15so now you get into other ways of making
04:17money but before I get into that did I
04:19answer the question for you Mo 100% I
04:21just wanted to give people the exposure
04:24especially those that may not be as well
04:26versed as us or you know drinking the
04:27Kool-Aid on a regular basis that there
04:29is an entirely different money-making
04:31machine and model that they can kind of
04:34tap into please continue with what are
04:36some other forms of Revenue that people
04:37can make if they enter the Creator
04:39economy okay now Pandora's Box is going
04:41to open up for you when you go beyond
04:43just what Google AdSense might pay you
04:45for a view and I want to point to this
04:47article and I'm assuming if you're
04:49watching this video or listening to this
04:50it's it might be a new thing for you a
04:52resource and it's often reference but
04:54the Godfather of all of this is Kevin
04:56Kelly he's one of the co-founders the
04:57executive editor for Wired Magazine and
05:00he wrote an article many many years ago
05:02kind of pre- social media boom if you
05:04can believe it is that to make a good
05:07living you don't need a million fans you
05:10don't need 100,000 fans you just need
05:121,000 true fans so the article is called
05:141,000 true fans and I think it's a
05:16seminal work that many people have
05:18pulled from including myself he he
05:20posits that if you have 1,000 true fans
05:23who are going to buy uh your book your
05:26audio book and the digital uh version of
05:29the Kindle vers of the same book you
05:31have a true fan someone who's willing to
05:32go wait in line or to register early so
05:34they don't miss out on the next thing
05:36that you're going to do and they're
05:37willing to spend $100 with you in profit
05:40each year you would make
05:42$100,000 as long as you're not living on
05:44the coastal cities in America you're
05:46going to be okay if you make $100,000 I
05:48think that's fine for most people but we
05:51can take this idea and we can scale this
05:52up like what does this mean when you
05:54show up and you build an audience and
05:56there's engagement there they're
05:57basically saying you have my trust
06:00you've earned Goodwill I'm willing to go
06:03and do the dance with you and so you can
06:05do multiple things and so I'm just going
06:07to run off a bunch of different ideas
06:09top of my mind so that people can go
06:10down and see what fits for them if I
06:12have an audience of a thousand true fans
06:14that means in theory if I write a book a
06:17digital book or an audio book that
06:19they're willing to buy it and that's one
06:20way you could sustain yourself so if you
06:22write a book which I have and I
06:23kickstarted that book and my goal was to
06:26get $30,000 the book is called pocket
06:28full of dough linkoln bio or Link in
06:30description okay and when we launched
06:32that we were hoping to get 30,000 or I
06:33wouldn't do it and I was blown away
06:36because we not only hit our $30,000 goal
06:38within the first week we got somewhere
06:40north of 70 I think it was like $75,000
06:43where it ended up which blew my mind as
06:45a firsttime author as a relatively
06:48unknown person outside of my YouTube
06:50channel there were not people willing to
06:52support me and the cherry on top of that
06:54MO is there were five books available at
06:56$1,000 each with a certain perk I know
07:00in my heart to this day and I'll swear
07:02to this those people did not buy it
07:04because of the perk they bought it
07:05because they wanted to support me they
07:07really wanted to support me and one of
07:09the coolest things is to read through
07:11and see who was at the th000 level which
07:14was just totally like it touched me
07:16emotionally I was like wow I didn't know
07:19you would do that for me and and I just
07:21feel kind of like really grateful and
07:24humble that this would happen so this is
07:27one thing that you can do as someone who
07:29creates cont content is to say like you
07:30know what if you love this content I'm
07:32going to codify this I'm going to
07:33organize it I'm going to do the research
07:35and the editing and I'm going to produce
07:37one volume of content that you can
07:39consume for 25 bucks or $30 or whatever
07:41the price point is that's one way the
07:43next thing that having content has done
07:45for me personally is it's given me
07:49access to higher profile events with
07:52bigger audiences and to ultimately up my
07:54speaking fee there was a period or a
07:57season in my life when I was doing
07:58public speaking where I was being paid
08:01$0 to speak it actually cost me money to
08:04speak meaning I'd have to drive give up
08:06my time and I was just doing it for free
08:08but today I'm happy to share with you I
08:10went from going from free to like a
08:12couple thousand bucks to 10,000 to
08:15$30,000 within a relatively short period
08:17of time because people see the content
08:21they are auditioning you the entire time
08:23they're like we like the things that you
08:24say we like how you sound and you're
08:26messaging and and just the whole persona
08:28but that we love your audience and
08:30they're very engaged and so we think by
08:32having you as a headliner that this is
08:34going to attract people quite literally
08:37before we did this call today I was
08:38telling you I was doing a webinar with
08:39one of our friends Neil dingra and he's
08:41having me there because some part of his
08:43audience wants to know more from me or
08:45haven't heard of me and so this is an
08:46opportunity for us to connect and it's a
08:48pretty awesome thing so some of you who
08:50aspire to be authors or public speakers
08:53which are the original thought leaders
08:55if you had a stronger social presence
08:57with a more engaged fan follow following
09:00think about how that might amplify your
09:01efforts today there are other
09:03opportunities the next thing which is
09:04pretty obvious is to have people who are
09:07who have aligned interest with you who
09:10want to sponsor your channel like say
09:12I'm using Apple products I'm using Canon
09:15and Sony and Lumix and I'm using lots of
09:18products all over my my desktop and and
09:21and Logitech so some of those companies
09:23in Road might say look hey we'd love to
09:27support you we'll send you equipment
09:30that's awesome so instead of costing
09:32money for you to go out and acquire the
09:34gear the manufacturers will give you the
09:36gear and they just don't give you the
09:37gear they give you the gear ahead of
09:38everyone else and often times there's no
09:40obligation if they're just giving you
09:41gear it's like gifts and kind there's no
09:44official sponsorship thing you should
09:46disclose that you were given the the
09:47device if it was given to you but you're
09:49not obligated to say good or bad things
09:52now my general rule of thumb is I accept
09:54everything I don't talk about everything
09:56and I I I had the caveat where if I
09:58don't like it I won't say anything but
09:59if I like it cuz I need to be genuine
10:01then I can say it cuz I'm not going to
10:02be out here pedling things that I don't
10:05like cuz it's not good reflection on my
10:07values and it's not a good way to keep
10:10my community involved in what I'm doing
10:12and so when you escalate the sponsorship
10:14not only do they give you their products
10:15to give you cash in hand as they say
10:18money and this is an awesome thing so
10:21we're approached quite often to talk
10:24about products and services that are
10:25aligned AI software tools plugins things
10:28to make designers lives easier and those
10:32people will give you some money they'll
10:34give you thousands of dollars to tens of
10:36thousands of into over $100,000 I've
10:39done two such promotions or
10:42collaborations that have paid me 120
10:44Grand each and that to me blows my mind
10:47you work all year for YouTube for
10:49yourself actually and you might make 300
10:52Grand that's a lot you can do three
10:54sponsor deals in a year and barely do
10:57anything and make 360,000
11:00you know the really cool part of this
11:02and I want to share this point too is
11:03that the kind of sponsored posts that
11:06you do are low production high integrity
11:10High authenticity so it's like unlike
11:12the old commercial days when a client
11:13gave us 150 Grand to make a commercial
11:16they expect craft Services they want to
11:18know who your DP is and they want to
11:19make sure there's a whole crew and
11:20there's a stage and there's wardrobe and
11:22casting and like ah all your money is
11:25gone but for sponsored content however
11:28you create content normally is what
11:29they're expecting so you already own all
11:31the gear and if it's just talking to
11:33camera or often times they just prefer
11:35you to shoot on your iPhone the
11:38production cost is very
11:40little and you then get to reap most of
11:43the profit now I want to share this idea
11:45with all of
11:46you it's a it's an observation I've had
11:48recently in the old days I'm talking
11:50about the last 10 years there was value
11:53in hiring a crew to go and shoot videos
11:55to promote a product or a launch or
11:57something like that and to squeeze it
12:00down let's talk about the real estate
12:01market so if you're selling a property
12:03that's $5 million plus up into the $100
12:05million range you're going to want
12:07pristine video quality old days they
12:10would bring you out and you'd have
12:11expensive cameras and gear and crew and
12:14big gimbals and this whole production
12:17and set up lights everywhere and they
12:19would pay you money to do that and those
12:20days seem to be quite gone because the
12:23technology that has been democratized
12:26has created a lower barrier to entry
12:29cameras are cheap sensors are great
12:31lenses are fairly cheap so any person
12:35with like a nice graduation gift from
12:37their parents can go out and produce
12:39high quality photo and videos so it's
12:41eroded the market what I've seen though
12:43is a shift away from getting paid to
12:45produce the video but getting paid to
12:48host the
12:49video I'm watching videos that are for
12:52properties that are $3 million and up
12:54with a variety of people hosting and
12:57their talent and their ability to speak
12:59runs the
13:00gamut I I don't want to name names but I
13:03watched this gentleman he was talking
13:04about a piece like property that was $7
13:06million somewhere in Los Angeles he's
13:08going through he's talking about it and
13:09it's fairly fact-based but I'm not
13:12really feeling anything and I'm like he
13:15didn't really add anything and then
13:16there's this guy I don't know what his
13:18National or his ethnicity is his name is
13:20enus and he does the craziest properties
13:23the most expensive Penthouse sold in the
13:24world the most expensive property in
13:26Dubai 34 million 80 million $200 million
13:28proper property and the reason why he's
13:31invited or probably paid to speak about
13:33these properties is because a people
13:35enjoy watching the videos they they have
13:37hundreds of thousands of views some of
13:38them have over a million views and he
13:40brings a personality to it so here's the
13:43here's the paradigm shift if you will Mo
13:46is this if you're a videographer who
13:48shoots Properties or events or
13:53weddings change your mindset change what
13:56you sell to move away from the
13:59production aspect of it to the hosting
14:01of it this is where the X Factor comes
14:04in where you exponentially increase the
14:06value and you become Irreplaceable you
14:09are one of
14:10one very critical idea so the difference
14:13between NIS and other people who present
14:15property they're like well this is
14:17marble countertop and this is wooden
14:20cabinets I'm like
14:22what Andis would say this I first want
14:25to walk you through the beautiful foyer
14:26and we're going to go into the kitchen I
14:28just want to take a moment and tell you
14:31this is Kata marble and this is book
14:33Matched and look at the chamford edge
14:36and I love the beefiness the thickness
14:38of this and imagine you sitting there
14:40having breakfast with your family or
14:41having a meeting here and entertaining
14:42all these people right this is Quon Oak
14:47that's been pickled matte finish and the
14:51hardware is German and DET talkx about
14:53it look look at the Soft Touch look at
14:54the thoughtful features that they've
14:56included in here and when you're ready
14:58to to like make all this stuff disappear
15:00you push this button and everything
15:02disappears so his level of speaking
15:04about architecture and fixures and
15:08painting a picture in in our minds is
15:11way different than this other person
15:13who's been doing these properties both
15:16of them are experienced they tell a
15:17totally different story and there's a
15:18reason why NS is the guy they call to do
15:21these videos and what's really
15:23interesting and I'm seeing a trend here
15:24is he has some banter with a camera
15:26person so it's like this whole show
15:28between and and and the camera guy and
15:29they're like what do you think I've
15:31never seen the camera guy but he does
15:32speak and he brings a different
15:33perspective and they're like oh I didn't
15:35notice that that's a good thing that you
15:36just brought up and the chemistry
15:38between the two is almost like a video
15:40podcast about real estate property so
15:42those of you out there who are shooting
15:44architectural videos for real estate
15:47you're probably getting paid a couple
15:48thousand bucks to do this but I bet you
15:51they're not flying you across the world
15:52to New York to LA to Dubai to parts of
15:55Europe to France to Turkey to talk about
15:58the property cuz you ain't that person
16:00they'll just hire a local person to do
16:02it for much less let's let's talk about
16:04this cuz we have a few friends that I
16:06mean we have many friends that do this
16:07for a living we do right I think if I
16:09was a person hearing this
16:11for the first few times it's really hard
16:14to wrap my head around you mean to tell
16:16me I can make money for just showing up
16:18and sharing my knowledge I want you to
16:20ground this in reality for someone who's
16:22hearing this for the first time what is
16:23kind of the mental shift you have to
16:25make to enter into this type of
16:27occupation to believe that this is
16:29something that can be done outside of
16:30the evidence that other people have been
16:32doing it well look the world has changed
16:34and it's changed a lot to even use the
16:36Playbook from 5 years ago makes you feel
16:38like really ancient and out of touch we
16:40have to do this thing and you can listen
16:42to me or you don't have to entirely up
16:46to you but I want you to mark on your
16:48calendar this is the first day I heard
16:50of this concept and what I choose to do
16:52now let's revisit this in 3 years so
16:55some of you will make no changes and
16:57you're like okay I made the right gamble
16:59look at where I'm at now and the ones
17:01who made the right decisions will will
17:03be affirmed that they did the right
17:04thing I can almost guarantee you if you
17:06don't heed what I'm saying you will not
17:08reap the rewards of what I'm going to
17:09tell you and your life will not change
17:11for the better it will change for the
17:13worse as we've seen this right we used
17:16to go out and do real estate videos and
17:17I would say like you know it's 40,000
17:19bucks and they would pay us and now
17:21they're not going to pay you $4,000
17:23forget about that like the real estate
17:25agent themselves will go and just like
17:26take a few Clips with their phone and
17:28literally posted on the website I know
17:29cuz I work with real estate agents right
17:31because there's no value ad so the big
17:33shift here and this is what you need to
17:35hear from me okay which is you have to
17:38be less of behind the camera talent to
17:40in front of camera Talent that's the big
17:43shift okay there's only one of you in
17:46the world and when you hide that you're
17:48holding back to Value there's lots of
17:51people who can move the camera people
17:53who can edit and do color grading and
17:55add some visual effects lots of people
17:57actually there's a whole lineup of them
17:58because they're in my DMs all the time
18:01but there's very few people who could
18:02talk about things in a way that captures
18:05your imagination there's just a handful
18:07of people I'm watching all these real
18:08estate videos and I I stumbled into a
18:10rabbit hole now I'm comparing
18:11contrasting and I'm out there into the
18:13real world extracting the lessons and
18:16sharing with you guys so that you can
18:18level up and learn I I promise you this
18:21if you're laying tile work if you're
18:24doing Plumbing if you're a roof
18:26contractor or a person who uh trims
18:29Lawns or spray cleans
18:32driveways the minute you get good at
18:34making the content part of it your
18:37business will change and we've seen this
18:39people who clean rugs oh my God piece of
18:41garbage cars and clean out every little
18:43piece do to some of that ASMR thing with
18:45the like little brush cleaning out the
18:47gaps in between the gear shifter oh it
18:50makes me so happy it's so satisfying and
18:53all they're doing is they're not even on
18:55camera that's the crazy part all you're
18:57seeing on camera is the before and after
19:00as it's happening so because I think
19:02sometimes people will hear you say like
19:03you have to be in front of the camera
19:05there's a lot of ways to be in front of
19:07the camera outside of video like you can
19:10write I know a lot of writers that make
19:12very good money with courses that are
19:14just written blog posts um videos that
19:18are that you don't see them they they
19:20call themselves like faceless creators
19:22right they make a good script and they
19:24talk about and there's good videography
19:26and b-roll around it so in front of the
19:28camera just means to make the content to
19:31actually present the content to the
19:33world present your thinking to the world
19:35the medium can change it could be audio
19:37it could be written it could be video
19:38what we're talking about is you got to
19:40stop being invisible to the media indeed
19:42when anyone else can do it then anyone
19:44else will do it and anyone else will
19:46charge a lot less than you that's the
19:48problem the reason why these videos work
19:51so well so this is like a subnote to our
19:53conversation is if you want to have the
19:55formula for creating videos that get
19:57seen by hundreds of thousands if not
19:58millions of people you follow a couple
20:00formulas number one you avoid speaking
20:03if you can because when there's no
20:05dialogue in it it is something that can
20:07appeal to people heart of hearing people
20:09who speak a d language and it's
20:11Universal so your audience just opened
20:14up to everyone in the world versus just
20:15to people understand this language so
20:17you focus on visual storytelling the
20:19second part is you take in the more
20:21powerful of the two senses what you hear
20:25ASMR is a powerful thing because the
20:28soundscape in which you create are more
20:30satisfying they're more hooky if you
20:32will than the visuals that you see don't
20:34believe me watch your favorite movie and
20:36turn the volume down to zero and see how
20:37you feel conversely turn off the screen
20:40turn up the volume and you imagine the
20:43lightsaber battle the start Destroyer
20:45flying past you and you you feel all the
20:47feels my theory on this Mo I think it's
20:50more than just a theory the difference
20:51between a lowbudget production and a
20:53blockbuster film is all the money they
20:56spend in sound design in composing a
20:59additional voice over recording and
21:01everything else they do to make the
21:03sound Lush and you can feel it versus
21:06capturing natural sound so they do
21:08fulley they do all kinds of things and I
21:11was listening to this uh this Instagram
21:13account that showed how they designed
21:15the sound for like Godzilla or something
21:17this is a sound designer at their best
21:20they're taking sounds like this watch
21:22I'll do this for you for your ASMR
21:26heads and they'll take that and process
21:29it through something and they'll add
21:30Reverb and it was
21:32like and then you're like that was where
21:34it was from this is not just fully this
21:37is beyond this is sound design and they
21:40would add in like a young calf and like
21:43like that and they would take that and
21:45they would change it and now sounds like
21:47Godzilla is
21:48like and you can hear it you're and they
21:51layered this stuff in MO focus on the
21:53thing that people listen to more than
21:54the what they watch the sound design the
21:56soundscapes and so there's plenty videos
21:59of pressure watching hedging Lawns and
22:01whatever they do that's super super
22:03satisfying okay the next part to having
22:06something that go viral or getting lots
22:08of views is seeing a real transformation
22:10once we look at the ugly overgrown lawn
22:13and it's like there's bald patches of
22:15grass and crab grass and you can't even
22:17see the sidewalk you're slowly pulling
22:20back the curtain to get to the
22:22destination and it's it's super
22:24addictive cuz like I can't leave now I
22:27need to know how the story ends and it's
22:28a story that's very easy for us to
22:30follow so you have real transformation
22:32you have a before and after so if you
22:34can include that like the the dirt rug
22:36that's just like there's nothing there
22:38and then next thing you know it's like a
22:40Nintendo Pokemon rug I'm like that was
22:42underneath all that to reveal that thing
22:45or the car this is something they've
22:47mastered in television like those Home
22:49Makeover shows they can never show you
22:51the finished product because as soon as
22:53you see the finished product you're out
22:54cu like oh I like it I don't like it
22:56thank you so they just show you working
22:58on it and then Ty the host says show me
23:01the house and they push past the the
23:03photo before and then you see it and
23:05there's tears of joy and you're like
23:07this is the culmination of it so we
23:08don't necessarily watch for the end
23:10result we watch for the transformation
23:12and the feelings that we get so if you
23:14focus on those three things your videos
23:16are going to have a much higher
23:18probability of catching the algorithm
23:20because people want to see that this is
23:22important there's a before and after
23:24there's no dialogue it's rich with
23:26soundscape and Design
23:29if you do nothing else just follow those
23:30three roles and your videos should
23:32perform better yes 100% when there's a
23:34good payoff and you can see that
23:36transformation like I think one of the
23:38biggest takeaways for me as I got into
23:40this space on a smaller scale currently
23:43and continuing to build my own personal
23:44brand is like do not just be a watcher
23:48like be a student when you consume like
23:51take a second and pause after you watch
23:52a really good video whether it's a short
23:54or a long video and ask yourself like
23:55why did I stay the whole time what are
23:57they doing that's keeping my attention
23:59and then and then when you ask that
24:00question like watch it again and like
24:02literally ask yourself like how did they
24:04open the video what are the sounds that
24:05are in there what are the clips how are
24:07they shooting especially those that are
24:08like have really figured it out what I
24:10love to do is go to a profile that's
24:12huge now but everyone starts at zero
24:15right and I like to just scroll all the
24:17way down because I'm a student of
24:18content and I can you know you can see
24:21the transformation when they figured it
24:22out because it's just little building
24:25blocks on top of each other of making
24:27micro changes over time to really nail
24:29it and once they nail it nine times out
24:32of 10 they just stay in that pocket they
24:33stay in the pocket that they're good at
24:34so big takeaway is go from Watcher to
24:37student when you consume anything to add
24:40to that I'll make it easier for you yeah
24:41I'll make it easier for you I learned
24:43this from Brenan cane look at pieces of
24:45content through the three FS the three
24:48FS okay facts fun and feeling ask
24:52yourself what did I learn in terms of
24:54facts what are the data points in which
24:55they're sharing with me in this
24:57video how how am I having feelings of
24:59fun what are they doing actively to make
25:02me feel like this is super fun and
25:05lastly what checking with yourself what
25:07what are the emotions I'm feeling what
25:08did they do to elicit those emotions
25:10from me the best most viral videos do
25:13all three simultaneously because as it
25:15turns out through the studies that
25:17Brendan has done that 90% of the
25:20population learns from one of these
25:22three things so if you only speak to
25:24facts you only get 30% of the population
25:26if you only speak about feelings then
25:27you only get get 30 so you want to
25:29incorporate all three things so getting
25:32back to our architecture example okay
25:34it's pretty easy to see in architecture
25:36so there's the person who quite
25:37literally walks you through the property
25:38tells you how many square feet the lot
25:41is where it's located what neighborhood
25:43it's in those are all facts square
25:45footage how many bedrooms onsuite baths
25:48whatever it is it's like blah blah blah
25:49there's two pools two fireplaces that's
25:51all facts necessary and I need to know
25:54the price
25:55too but not very captivating
25:58and then there's are people who then
26:01bring a feeling to it and the best way
26:03to elicit a feeling is you say this
26:07magic phrase it begins with imagine mhm
26:11or picture yourself MH and there's
26:14something really strange about this word
26:16so if I were to direct the audience
26:18right now imagine
26:19yourself working in a beautiful home
26:23overlooking the ocean or the Canyons or
26:26the desert and you waking up every
26:29morning surrounded by nature and beauty
26:31and just realizing how great your life
26:34is then imagine yourself walking your
26:36slippers over to the kitchen and there's
26:39a hot espresso already made for you
26:40because your part-time live-in Chef
26:43whatever it is has prepared you your
26:46favorite
26:46meal can you smell the RO of the
26:49coffee can you feel the the salty air
26:54from the beach the crispness of the the
26:57the mountain air from from summer or
27:00spring or whatever it is you can because
27:02you can't help yourself when somebody
27:04says imagine or picture
27:06yourself it's it's one of these magical
27:09phrases that opens up the subconscious
27:11mind to allow us to go there and so
27:14that's what these people do they say
27:15imagine entertaining 100 guests and
27:19they're by the pool someone serving
27:22drinks and this is your wine seller and
27:24you get to talk about X Y and Z that's
27:27what you do when when you activate the
27:29feelings part of it and then the last
27:31part is to have fun now some of these
27:34real estate videos I've seen this new
27:35woman and I'm watching her videos and
27:37she always does one wacky weird thing in
27:39the video and it becomes part of her
27:42subconscious signal to the audience cuz
27:43we're like What weird thing is she going
27:45to do she's fairly attractive good
27:47proportioned woman and she'll go in and
27:49she'll go into the home gym and she goes
27:51you know what I'm going to try to lift
27:52this weight it's 50 lbs I'm not sure if
27:54I can do it but let's try and we're like
27:56oh my God and she does it like good for
27:59you good for you or she'll sit in the
28:02sauna and it's like okay that's the
28:05wacky thing that she's doing so she's
28:06having fun and we get the sense that she
28:09enjoys her job so we enjoy watching the
28:12video with her here's an exercise you're
28:14like okay Chris I'll easy for you guys
28:15to say you like to talk and you have a
28:17good vocabulary do this watch one of
28:20these real estate videos these home
28:21tours make some notes and then play it
28:26turn the volume down and talk over it
28:30it's really good practice it's something
28:31I'm going to do with my kids and my wife
28:32I'm like okay everybody we get to watch
28:34this pick up some terminology write some
28:37notes think about what you want to say
28:38and then each person gets to do the
28:40presentation to the exact same video if
28:43you do this enough times you're going to
28:44start to see like oh I can do this let's
28:46switch gears briefly here to sports I
28:50love P listic Sports Mano Mano hand
28:54toand combat right either boxing or
28:56mixed martial arts and and one of the
28:58best ever to do it is a guy named Jim
29:00Lampley we've talked about him before
29:02he's on the HBO broadcast team and the
29:04broadcast team usually consists of three
29:06people a play-by-play guy a color
29:08commentator and a former pro athlete
29:13champion and what's really interesting
29:15and it's unparalleled because I haven't
29:16seen anybody us do it as well as Jim
29:17lample he's been doing this for decades
29:20is he's the play-by-play guy but what he
29:23described is not literally what you see
29:25and it makes me become so excited again
29:27if you turn the volume off a sporting
29:28event it's not so exciting but if you
29:31turn the volume on and I've gone to Live
29:32Events when I've watched UFC fights
29:34before it's not the same experience I'm
29:37not saying it's better or worse but I I
29:38want to hear Joe Rogan I want to hear
29:41whoever is in the booth talking about
29:43the fight because they add texture and
29:45Nuance to the to the event that I can't
29:48perceive with my eyes
29:49alone okay so what Jim Lampley will do
29:53is like he throws a jab another jab it's
29:55unanswered he's like saying come at me
29:57if you have the guts I'm like that's not
29:59what he's saying but I feel like he
30:01could be
30:02thinking right and the other person
30:05recalls and then surprisingly he throws
30:06a left hook back and barely misses
30:08grazing the nose of the other person
30:10like he could smell the leather on his
30:12glove or he was like he just gave him a
30:14haircut there any any closer and it
30:16would probably be lights out good Night
30:18Irene you know whatever he they're going
30:20to say and Jim Lampley does just so well
30:23I wish the play-by-play people at the
30:25UFC could do this because that would
30:27take sport that I love so much to the
30:29very next level Joe Rogan serves as the
30:31color
30:32commentator right he's not a
30:34professional athlete but he adds color
30:36and comedy and I think this is where
30:38hip-hop people do such a good job you
30:41know let's just say it black and brown
30:42people do this really really well and
30:45I'm just I'm addicted to these videos
30:48where they do reactions what you want to
30:50do is you have this Ultra Clean Ultra
30:53minimal kitchen but you have a toaster
30:57you have a oven you might have a
31:00microwave you might have a food mixer
31:01and you have a coffee maker and it
31:03clutters this beautiful design so what
31:05they do is they build in these things
31:07where you can hide all that stuff until
31:08when you need it and it's hidden behind
31:11a wall they call it appliance garage and
31:14the very thoughtful kitchens the ones
31:15that are designed for people to actually
31:16use and live in they design these into
31:19it and so there's this marble backsplash
31:22and this wall just comes sliding up and
31:25the guy who's doing this oh my no no I I
31:28need this right now this is so good you
31:29know he goes so over the top like and
31:31he's like swearing and angry that it's
31:33so good that I'm like he needs to do the
31:36voiceover for every that's like this
31:39because he's so funny so he through his
31:43talent through his voice through his
31:44lens and his language his cultural
31:47experiences can describe something or
31:49just react to it in such a way that it
31:51makes the video infinitely more
31:52watchable I think I hope that people
31:55listening are hearing these examples and
31:58saying oh I can do this because there's
32:00different formats to content like a lot
32:01of people that may be watching our
32:03Channel right now is like well I have to
32:05educate and I have to you know teach
32:07something and I have to be like
32:09brilliant at this thing and and Chris
32:11started making content after 25 years in
32:13business and it's like you can ease into
32:15it even the inkling of telling yourself
32:16like well someone's already doing it
32:18just kind of push that to the Wayside
32:20because like Chris said you have a
32:21specific flavor you have a specific side
32:23you have a specific background that you
32:24bring that to if you choose the
32:26commentator route if you think about
32:28that type of video now it's very
32:29different than this whole like pressure
32:30washing hedging Lawns and things like
32:33that these are reactionary commentary
32:35videos and the video itself is the fact
32:39part MH it's an appliance garage I get
32:42it mhm but what they're adding is fun
32:45and feelings that's all they're adding
32:46to it that's right way over the top and
32:49it's delightful to see people so excited
32:51about something or so angry about
32:53something you know those videos are like
32:54no no afcan way that's not going to work
32:55I'm like oh my God my life has changed
32:58take my money take all my money right
33:00now I will they're like I will go into
33:03poverty to buy this right now and they
33:05do it in their own Charming way and it's
33:07such a beautiful thing to see and so in
33:10this world the companies produce
33:12products facts they're looking for
33:15people to bring fun and feeling to it
33:17and that could be you those now kind of
33:19primed okay this is a viable thing this
33:21is something that I can do based on your
33:2310-year history now with this domain
33:28tell people what they should avoid doing
33:31if they enter this thing three things
33:33that you should avoid when making
33:34content is number one don't treat this
33:37as another means to Market your products
33:39and services this is not about
33:40advertising to your prospects that's a
33:44whole different Channel that's a whole
33:45different person who's going to teach
33:46you how to do that that's necessary and
33:48vital but don't take what we're doing
33:51and pervert it into ways to get more
33:53money from people
33:55because you're not going to create
33:57long-term value for yourself you're not
33:58going to develop a thousand true fans by
34:01advertising to them every second that
34:02you get a chance to number two is have a
34:06hypothesis and just start creating and
34:08test and experiment and learn as you go
34:12at some point if you stay in the game
34:13long enough and not quit you will find
34:15your magic formula and once you find
34:17your magic formula you go all in on that
34:20and so this is a wonderful piece of news
34:21for many people which is don't wish for
34:24or want an instant hit because you
34:26didn't get time to expl explore all
34:28these things it's good for you to
34:30explore lots of things so that you know
34:31what you really want to do so you can
34:33refine it and you can get better and
34:34better if you watch the original Mr
34:37Beast videos when he's a kid saying
34:39somebody's name for like a million times
34:41but he took those principles about
34:43creating Cliffhangers or stunts over-the
34:47toop things Feelgood videos and I think
34:50he said he spent something like1 120
34:51million dollar a year making content
34:53which is bananas to me so he figures out
34:56how to create mini Cliffhangers
34:58create overthe toop videos but only
34:59through the process of trial and error
35:02so I think it's really important for you
35:03to enter into this with not with such a
35:05fixed idea as to who you're going to be
35:07I'll make this super personal relatable
35:09to you okay when I first was making
35:11content it was about ux design and UI
35:15for websites that's not my jam it's not
35:18what I do but I did it because that's
35:19what Jose did and that's what he knew
35:21and eventually I started making videos
35:23about logo design or typography and
35:26layout because that's what I knew but
35:27that wasn't my jam either it wasn't
35:29until one of my former students asked me
35:31hey I I need some business coaching I
35:33can't afford to pay you what can we do
35:35I'm like well if you peer on camera
35:36allow me to tell the story and we're
35:39super transparent about everything then
35:40that will give me value and sure enough
35:43an audience started to show up and it
35:45told me hey Chris there are a lot of
35:47people out there making design content
35:49some of them are better than you some of
35:50them are worse there's a lot of people
35:52out there making business content again
35:53some of them are better some are worse
35:55but very few people who can actually
35:57speak authentically from a place of
35:59experience design and business and that
36:02could be you and when I started making
36:04that content it started to connect and
36:05resonate with people I enjoy talking
36:08about this and so now it's like I let
36:10the audience tell me like what is good
36:13and valuable not once in my life did I
36:15think during those period that we would
36:18have two and a half million subscribers
36:20on our Channel talking about the
36:22business of creativity I'm like this is
36:24too
36:26nerdy this is so Niche why would anybody
36:28watch this
36:30stuff but you know what shows you what
36:33each one of us knows about our audience
36:35which is very little there's a community
36:36for everything like there's literally a
36:39community for everything there is going
36:42to be somebody that aligns with the
36:43interest that you are passionate about
36:45and I think that's a really cool thing
36:47like don't we have who's who's our
36:48friend he made like a second Channel
36:50about Pokemon cards Pat Flynn yeah he
36:53likes Pokemon there's an audience for
36:55that and that one blew up fast than his
36:58original content marketing channel don't
37:00sell yourself short like Chris always
37:02tells me your weirdness is going to be
37:05what attracts people and I think he's
37:07really right in that regard for sure
37:09that'll lead me to my third Point here
37:12and which is everybody emulates the
37:15people they think are successful in the
37:18process of emulating what successful and
37:19is a great way to learn there's nothing
37:21wrong with that you lose some part of
37:23yourself cuz you're now a poor copy of
37:25someone who's doing it better and longer
37:26than you and why would someone choose
37:28you over the original person so I I'm
37:31I'm coming to embrace this idea that
37:34being weird is better than being better
37:37being different is your competitive
37:39Advantage so in your pursuit of
37:41emulating what other people do you're
37:43some poor copy of that person and it's
37:45okay to do this so that you learn and
37:47you you you go through the mechanics and
37:48like now I know how to create content
37:49that's great but at some point you need
37:51to turn the lens on yourself and say
37:53like what makes me different and unique
37:56and people are noticing this about me
37:59and my transformation from from this
38:0110-year Arc from being the guy who wears
38:04the suit literally with suit and tie
38:06talking about business being quite stiff
38:08on camera to this person who's like with
38:10the drip the street wear layered on top
38:12of the LV stuff you know and then me
38:15leaning into my personality laughing
38:17wholeheartedly and sometimes crushing
38:19people's souls online it's just that's
38:22who I am that is me all of me and you
38:25can love it or you can leave it or you
38:26can be about it whatever pick your
38:29poison I don't really care what is a
38:31final word that you would want to give
38:33somebody for this video and I feel like
38:35if if I have a hunch the if the
38:37community wants more videos Around The
38:39Creator economy making money online uh
38:42through the Creator economy just tell us
38:44in the comments below if you want more
38:45videos around this topic and we'll be
38:46glad to do so but Chris final thoughts
38:48let me land the plane for you okay
38:50number one is make the commitment to do
38:52something and start putting out content
38:54and don't fall in love with your content
38:55so much so that you can't make any
38:57changes I don't know why people do that
38:59there's nothing that says you can't
39:01change tomorrow and show up differently
39:03and and and and talk about the things
39:05that really stirs your soul and makes
39:07you really happy you can do that any
39:09point in time and number two is don't be
39:11so proud to beg you know what you do
39:13your content and you're you're like
39:14stuck and you're like I've been doing
39:15this for a couple of years I'm not going
39:17anywhere go get some freaking help you
39:19know reach out to another Creator and
39:20say you know I really admire your
39:21content I've been following it and is
39:23there something that we we where we can
39:25make an arrangement where I study under
39:27you I can pay you something is do you
39:29have any kind of programs that I can
39:30enroll in and often times creators are
39:32just happy to help other creators but
39:34don't do it on your first video do that
39:36after you do your 50th video because it
39:38looks like you you're just trying to
39:39shortcut everything in life and I want
39:41to just give up give a shout out to
39:43somebody in particular when we were
39:45fairly young in our YouTube game there
39:47was a gentleman his name is Roberto
39:48Blake we had a relationship with him and
39:50he's like hey a couple things that you
39:52guys can do that will change it for you
39:54he taught us about titles and algorithms
39:56and thumbnail design and he just talked
39:58to us through it and he didn't ask for
39:59anything exchange I'm a fan of his he's
40:01a fan of ours and it's just two creators
40:03getting together to talk and we've
40:05benefited from that and that helped me
40:08to get the kind of momentum that has
40:10kept me in the game for for as long as I
40:11have because I'm not going to lie to you
40:14I think I'm pretty resilient I think I
40:16have determination and fortitude but you
40:18know what four years in if you don't get
40:20results you're like I just want to jump
40:21off a bridge how long did it take you
40:23before you saw
40:24results well I'm not say four years but
40:27you know it didn't take but it took some
40:29time though it didn't just happen over I
40:31would say about a year that's a long
40:33time about a year into making content I
40:35started to look at things a little bit
40:36differently and then when we found
40:37results you go you go where the gold
40:39comes out you know it's like that's
40:40where the gold is let's go back in there
40:42and we keep doing is and you know what
40:44none of our growth has been hockey stick
40:48growth except for doing the shorts that
40:51we saw like remember you and I were
40:53talking oh yeah I was walking and I
40:55called you one time I'm like mo mo uh
40:57have you seen this video it's like it's
40:59got 100,000 views and you're like dude
41:01which one there's no video there has
41:02100,000 views and I see the one that's
41:04240 I'm like oh shoot I messed up and I
41:07went back and I looked at it it's like
41:08it's like 360 I'm like holy cow we
41:11finally got it the first time in our
41:13Lives four eight years into the content
41:16creation game let's see that was during
41:17the pandemic 2020 that would be uh six
41:20years into content creation we actually
41:22had our first viral hit maybe our first
41:25and only we don't really have viral
41:27videos we create meaty hearty nourishing
41:31video sandwiches that take time to
41:33process and eat this ain't fast food
41:35everybody is a slow cooking I I do want
41:37to add something and I had to learn this
41:39the hard way really do have fun in those
41:41beginning stages when you don't have an
41:43audience like experiment so much because
41:47guess what people won't even see that
41:49stuff because you don't you haven't set
41:51expectations you haven't nurtured them
41:54to to like come for a certain thing like
41:56all these different things have a lot of
41:58fun in those beginning stages I would
42:00argue stay as much as possible outside
42:03of the results like definitely look at
42:04your insights look at your analytics
42:06tweak things but you should be tasting a
42:09lot of different things in those
42:10beginning stages I'll leave the audience
42:12with these three ideas and they're
42:13connected and it's something that uh my
42:17former business Mentor shared with me
42:19rest in peace Kier McLaren do the work
42:23trust the process stay out the results
42:26you stick with those three things you're
42:27going to do well in life do the work
42:29trust the process and stay out the

43:29I'm trying to think what do I need to do
43:31differently so moving forward what we're
43:33going to be doing is we're going to
43:35release videos and there's going to have
43:38they're going to have an expiration date
43:40I'm not sure yet what it's going to be
43:41but let's just say it's 48 Hours it
43:43might be a little bit longer to give you
