your own coconut oil.
00:06With the numerous health benefits and uncountable
uses of coconut oil,
00:10you should be making yours at home.
00:13You will need just coconuts!
00:15I'll be using 3 coconuts for this demonstration.
00:18Break the coconuts with a heavy blunt object.
00:20I love coconut juice so let's take a commercial
break while I drink some!
00:33When done, pry out the coconut meat from the
coconut shell.
00:37Once the coconut is mature, the coconut meat
should come out of the shell easily.
00:47Rinse them very well.
00:57And cut into small pieces like this to help
your blender.
01:01Next, boil some water.
01:04Extracting coconut milk with moderately hot
water gives you more coconut oil
01:08than when you extract with warm or lukewarm
water.
01:12Don't even think about using cool water for
the extraction.
01:16Then grind it in a blender till smooth.
01:19I diluted the hot water with cold water to
bring it to a comfortable temperature that
01:24I can safely touch with my bare hands as you will
see later.
01:28Pour in a sieve to separate the coconut milk
from the chaff.
01:39Then press with your hands to squeeze out
the last drop.
01:52I grind the chaff a second time to extract
more coconut milk.
02:13I'll be using this sieve with a finer mesh
to sieve the coconut milk
02:17to remove the tiniest particles.
02:36When done, keep it in the fridge overnight.
02:39The next morning, you can see that the coconut
oil has separated from the water
02:44and caked beautifully like a frozen lake.
02:53Take the white part that's the oil and place
in a clean dry pot.
02:57It is advisable to use original stainless
steel pots for this.
03:02Cover and start cooking on low to medium heat.
03:06Meanwhile what do I do with the coconut water?
03:09I pass it through a sieve.
03:12And pour whatever I catch in the sieve into
the pot
03:15because that's coconut oil.
03:17You can use this water to boil plain white
rice,
03:20to prepare Jollof Coconut Rice and White Coconut
Rice.
03:24In fact, you can use it in any recipe that
calls for coconut milk because
03:29even though we have removed the coconut oil,
this water still has some coconut taste in it.

03:50I cooked it for a total of 1 hour 15 minutes
on low to medium heat to get here.
03:56If you notice some smoke while cooking it,
03:59you can reduce the heat to very low.
