00:07channel this week today's episode is all
00:10about whether or not Fuji will soon
00:12upgrade their 16 1.4 now this lens
00:17honestly is my favorite lens amongst all
00:22of the Fuji lenses that I have and uh
00:28I'll tell you one of the reasons for
00:29that is because of this
00:32Focus clutch right here now many of you
00:35photographers that don't shoot a lot of
00:37manual don't really understand this
00:40focusing clutch and why is there a need
00:43for it now the 3514 and the 2314 also
00:48have this focusing clutch and I really
00:51enjoy it because if I want to really
00:53zoom in on my focus all I have to do is
00:55just while I'm in autofocus I can just
00:58pull it back it's automatically in
01:00manual focus and I can focus on what I
01:02want today's testimonial is all about
01:04using this lens and why I love it so
01:08much and I've got to tell you the
01:11biggest reason why I'm in the Fuji
01:13system is because of this lens
01:15and I'm going to show you some uh some
01:19early photographs that I made with it
01:20while I was borrowing the lens from
01:22someone and they are in my mind they're
01:26really great uh I'm a photojournalist
01:29and so what I immediately thought of was
01:32low light 1.4 and what's it going to
01:35look like and the results are pretty
01:38amazing to me I don't shoot a ton of
01:41stuff in real low light but believe me
01:44it's well worth it now the other thing
01:48that I didn't I didn't know this when I
01:50first borrowed this lens
01:52but it was around Christmas time and I I
01:57was staying at my uh my aunt's house and
02:02you know she has all sorts of little
02:03knickknacks around you know Santa
02:05Clauses and things and I said I wonder
02:07how close this thing focuses now I
02:09hadn't done any research on this lens at
02:12all so someone just let me borrow it and
02:14I said oh cool I'm going to try this
02:16thing out let me break it down this way
02:17it's Fuji's closest focusing prime lens
02:25um it focuses down to about six inches
02:27from the sensor which is basically the
02:30length of this lens so you know with the
02:33other uh the the other associate on here
02:37the layout of the lens shade which comes
02:40it's like you can put if you put what
02:43you're focusing on right up next to it
02:45like this it's going to be in focus
02:47I that to me alone was almost the price
02:51of this lens it's it's you know of
02:53course it's not one-to-one macro it's
02:55only like 0.21 or whatever it is but
02:59honest to God when you can get that
03:01close at 1.4 and I'm going to show you
03:03some examples of it you won't believe it
03:06well if you know if you know the Fuji
03:08system and you know these lenses then
03:11obviously you're gonna you're gonna know
03:15the newer lenses the you know the the
03:181814 which I hear is unbelievable uh the
03:232314 the new one and the 3514 excuse me
03:27the 3314 all those lenses are beautiful
03:30but none of them Focus as close as this
03:42now the lens that gets the closest to
03:47is the 1814 and it's a little bit
03:54um what do you call the the filter
03:57diameter is a 62 not a 67 like this is
04:02and it's a little bit skinnier it's
04:05skinnier this is a much fatter lens just
04:08like the lenses that um you know the
04:112314 the early ones the 2314 and the uh
04:1535 one four and I believe it's probably
04:18got something to do with the focusing
04:19clutch I don't know but what I'm hoping
04:22is is that Fuji will not mess with this
04:26lens too much losing the focusing clutch
04:29yeah that'll probably happen when they
04:31decide to upgrade this upgrade this lens
04:33but I'm hoping that it'll stay closer to
04:37the 1814 somewhere in that range so that
04:41it doesn't take away that magical
04:45smaller and lighter although this is not
04:47a light lens and this lens that I have
04:50on here is not a Fujifilm one but it's a
04:54it's not really bad it's not really
04:57heavy but honestly it's great on my xt5
05:04um I can't complain about it at all and
05:07we're going to show you some pictures
05:08right now that cover the whole Gambit of
05:12what this lens can do you know all the
05:15way from close up at 1.4 all the way to
05:19you know I don't know f56 f8 something
05:21like that and maybe even f11 I don't
05:25know something like that
05:26but I have to tell you
05:29in use in Pro use this is a great lens
05:32and I'm sure that when Fuji comes out
05:34with their version of this
05:37well I'm not sure they may mess around
05:40totally but this this lens here
05:43really has a lot of nice qualities to it
05:47and the results are absolutely beautiful
05:50and I'm hoping that Sony excuse me I'm
05:53hoping Sonia I'm hoping that Fuji
05:56doesn't get too clinical about it
05:58because the 23 the new 2314 and the 3314
06:02are very clinically sharp all the way
06:04around and the same with the 18.
06:07there's no character in that really you
06:10think about it so let's get on to some
06:12photographs right now
06:20these three shots are the ones that
06:23convince me to buy this lens the
06:2616 1.4 look how tight you can get with
06:29this lens six inches the beautiful
06:31detail in this landscape shot of Duxbury
06:35beach look at the way the detail is it's
06:38beautiful and then this Len the shot
06:40coming up of the Christmas concert here
06:43you can see how sharp this guy's eyes
06:46are absolutely amazing
06:55now look how nice and tight you can get
06:57with this lens 5.9 inches really makes a
07:02big difference when you're trying to go
07:04for a certain type of look look how
07:06sharp that is it's just amazing and you
07:10know it what it comes down to is is
07:12certain lenses have that certain
07:14something in this lens sure does this
07:17this little model here is only like I
07:20don't know eight inches high it's really
07:22really small but really amazing then we
07:25zoom in on this lobster trap bug right
07:28here you can just see how close it gets
07:33now these two shots of these flowers
07:36these daffodils right here look at the
07:39water droplets they're just so sharp so
07:42I think of like f 2.8 or something this
07:44shot here is a 1.4 look how sharp the
07:49flower petals are pretty amazing
07:59now you may have seen these shots before
08:01and maybe not this is the pageant that
08:04happens every year on Rockport and this
08:06guy in the right his eyes are tack sharp
08:08at one point for 6400 ISO the same here
08:12with the procession coming up the street
08:14I think was shot at 90th of a second at
08:161.4 6400 it it's really dark and this
08:21shot here over at Pigeon Cove blue hour
08:32now I've always liked to take this lens
08:34with me on assignment you know 16 or 24
08:37equivalent is my favorite lens to do
08:39that with the problem is is that we get
08:41some Distortion here you can see how fat
08:43his hand is and but they use Distortion
08:45helps me with this Photograph here of
08:48these uh weights that are used for uh
08:50arcade Marine architecture
08:53the shot here of this mural cleaner I
08:56wanted to make sure I could get close
08:58enough to show most of this image that
09:00she's working on and it worked out
09:02really well this next image got down
09:04nice and low to show Yoda and uh the
09:07Mandalorian I believe it is and it works
09:10so well for this situation great stuff
09:14then I was at a jazz fundraiser and I
09:16wanted to show some detail of what was
09:18going on and there was a little chess
09:19involved and this next shot here is of
09:22the the Jazz Trio that was playing and
09:26it worked really really well it's low
09:27light and uh nice shot of the band
09:37now these next shots are just general
09:39wide angle shots and I like to emphasize
09:42the foreground as much as I can here
09:45with these uh with this gear here
09:46waiting to be put in the water and also
09:49with this shot here I wanted to
09:50emphasize these blobs traps here on the
09:52left hand side with the door in the
09:54background just a little bit out now
09:57this next shot here it was just a weird
10:00shot and I just want to centralize my
10:02focus on this Lobster Claw dressed up
10:06and then of course I wanted to emphasize
10:09this sign on the right hand side
10:11explaining a little bit about bare skin
10:13neck and it worked pretty well I think
10:17now this next shot here I wanted to
10:19emphasize this bow with the numbers on
10:21it so I shot this at 1.4 and I left the
10:25other boat out of focus and it worked
10:27great this shot here I just want to zoom
10:30in and just emphasize this foreground of
10:33the name of the boat and it's it worked
10:36really well for this next shot is a shot
10:39up in New Hampshire of these lupines and
10:42I really want to emphasize the flowers
10:44in the front and let the flowers in the
10:47back kind of go a little bit out
10:49hey thanks for dropping by the channel

10:53on the 16-1-4 I really really love this
10:57lens and you know it's a WR lens the
11:00thing is weather tight and it can take
11:03the abuse it's great and I got it used
11:06for about six hundred dollars
11:07uh the U.S great lens and I'm probably
11:10never gonna get rid of it and I'm
11:12probably not going to
11:14I'm probably not going to go to a new
11:16one if they come up with them because
11:17this lens has got some nice character to
11:19it and I'm on the lookout for a 2314
11:22because it's got character I really love
11:25that when I used it so uh please like
