00:07remnant is a great note-taking app if
00:10you are a student or attempting to learn
00:12something like certification training
00:14any of the technology or other venues
00:16obviously if you're a college student or
00:18a high school student
00:20romney can make sense for you and
00:21there's a couple of different ways it
00:23one is because of its ability to do
00:26space repetition which we'll talk about
00:30and two it's ability to do flash cars
00:33both of those when all used together
00:36could be really powerful and i'm going
00:38beginnings aspects of rev note enough to
00:41get you started and using it
00:43productively to help you in your studies
00:45so stay tuned now before we get started

01:15first thing you want to do if you want
01:16involved in rev note is to head over to
01:19remdot.io i'll put a link in the
01:22and revenue is really built
01:26for and about learning whether you're a
01:30college student obviously but also if
01:33you're like a continuing education
01:34person someone who's going for
01:36like myself who's going for
01:38certifications and learning about new
01:41anytime you're trying to learn something
01:42rum note is a great application
01:45and i'm going to tell you why right now
01:47the biggest reason why i like revnote
01:50is that it allows me to put in notes and
01:54create virtual flash cards called rams
01:57a ram is nothing more than a virtual
01:58flash card and what that allows you to
02:05create these create content and as
02:07you're taking down the content actually
02:08structure it in a way
02:10that if it can become a flash card
02:13and then the second piece of rev note
02:15that really sort of drives home this
02:19this idea of spaced repetition space
02:22it's the idea that as you as time goes
02:26on for when you first learn something
02:28if you don't reinforce it at certain
02:30intervals you will eventually lose most
02:33knowledge so what's base repetition is
02:37of knowing exactly when it should be
02:41with the content that you're trying to
02:43remember or retain that knowledge
02:46so the great thing that remnant does is
02:48it actually creates the cue cards and
02:49i'm going to show you later how
02:51on the keycard itself as you answer the
02:54questions it gives you sections on
02:55whether you got it right whether you
02:57struggled to get it right whether you
02:58got it wrong or even when if you
03:00accidentally hit a button and expose the
03:03without knowing it and depending on what
03:06you answer it actually
03:07will remind bring that card back up for
03:10you to review again at a specific date
03:13and time so it's a really great way of
03:16ensuring that you're learning
03:18and most importantly retaining it over
03:21let's get to the actual nuts and bolts
03:23of note so let's get in here
03:25here i have a handful of documents here
03:27you can see a bunch of data science
03:28documents i'm actually
03:29using course in coursera's data science
03:33course where right now so i started it
03:38and this is just some of the notes i've
03:41but we're going to start from the
03:42beginning so the first thing you're
03:43going to want to do is create a document
03:45on rem notes based on documents so
03:48you can do a couple of things here
03:49there's a today's document which if you
03:51click on that which we'll do right now
03:54it'll actually create a document with
03:55today's date so this is great for
03:58so the value of journaling and at least
04:02and i i have like a complicated history
04:04of journaling admittedly
04:06sometimes i do it sometimes i don't but
04:07when i do it i find that my head is more
04:09i'm more focused on the specific things
04:11i want to get done in a day
04:13whereas if i just leave the day up to
04:16it's hit or miss i can spend the day
04:18being really productive
04:19or i can spend the day getting next to
04:21nothing done in it spending a lot of
04:22time in call of duty war zone
04:24so uh yeah so having you know a daily
04:28document to sort of get down your
04:29feelings your ideals for the day
04:31whatever you want to do hitting this
04:34document will allow you to basically
04:39for today i might say making
04:52and it's just simple you take notes
04:54especially a bunch of bullet points
04:56so i can have a you know a bullet point
04:58here if i want to have a sub bullet
05:00this is a beginner's guide
05:06hope you watch it you know just coming
05:09up with various random stuff
05:12all right as you can see
05:16i have a split item now the cool thing
05:18about this is let's say i'm typing out
05:19something here like um
05:23ate too many cookies today because that
05:27not proud of it all right
05:31and i'll put in some food here
05:35there we go nice little icon there so
05:38let's say i didn't want to see anything
05:41i want to fold that up because i have
05:43today i had a couple of different things
05:44in here i just wanted to
05:46fold this up i could actually hit this
05:47little um collapsing button here
05:50and now to actually collapse it and give
05:52you a little thing saying hey there's
05:53two pieces of information here that
05:54we're not currently showing you
05:55if i uncollapse it then uh you can see i
05:58can get that information that's pretty
06:00next thing i want to talk to you about
06:01is formatting so formatting text
06:04when i highlight some text like let's
06:06say too many cookies
06:08all right and i want to bold that i can
06:11highlight that and then i get this
06:14and i can do a bunch of different things
06:15i can make a reference and we'll talk
06:16about references a little while
06:18make a tag out of it i can create a
06:21card and what a closed card is
06:24essentially a fill in a blank card
06:25so if you're learning information and
06:27you want to you know test yourself in a
06:28fill in the likes way like you have a
06:30this blank equals the
06:33the width of a circle as an example
06:36and you might put you know diameter for
06:38that right as it's definitely you could
06:41bold dial size underlined you have
06:44quotes and then you have
06:45a bunch of different colors here and
06:46then you have you can toggle auto back
06:49searching on and off in this case what
06:50i'm going to do is just highlight my
06:51text let's say i want to bold it
06:53so i can either hit this or hit command
06:56or on windows i'll be control control b
06:59so hit that and you can see i
07:00highlighted that if i want to you know
07:04like that this is a beginner's guide i
07:05can highlight that and i can make it
07:07highlight or alt three alt two alt one
07:10for which colors i want here i have a
07:12handful of colors on my palette
07:13i click off there and i have it
07:14highlighted i want to italicize
07:16the same thing i just highlight i hope
07:18you watch it as an example
07:20and i can just go to italicize or
07:23i and there you go so that's sort of the
07:26quick and dirty way you
07:27can manipulate text and you know it's
07:31pretty straightforward if you've used
07:32notion if you used evernote it's very
07:35so the next thing i want to talk about
07:37is starting a new document so you can
07:39to documents i can create a new document
07:41which is totally blank and then you can
07:43give it a title so the first thing you
07:45is you know say like youtube video
07:54and then one of the things you can do is
07:56put a source in and you can actually
07:57create a link so what i can actually do
07:59copy down here click paste and as you
08:03it actually creates a linked reference
08:04so this is nice if you're
08:06studying and you want you know or you're
08:08taking notes excuse me and you want to
08:10reference the actual source of the data
08:14for that page for that document so you
08:18a reference in there as an example you
08:21can have multiple references
08:22so i can put another reference in here
08:24so i can actually let's say i wanted to
08:26another reference was likepacker.com
08:28i'll come here just get a quick one
08:31copy that right if i don't know why i'm
08:33struggling here i can paste that in as
08:36and now i have another reference link so
08:40you can gather all your references uh
08:42your reference links right up there in
08:45pretty clean and easy to do we talked
08:48typing things up so let's say i wanted
08:50to create a cue card
08:51so the way you do that there's several
08:54different types you can make
08:56uh i keep saying cue card flash card if
08:59you want to make a flashcard what you do
09:00is you start out with the front end of
09:03the card and then the back end of the
09:05so the front of the card is going to be
09:07you know the thing that you're testing
09:09right so let's say i might say
09:22question mark and then that's the front
09:24end of the card and the way that i can
09:25tell it that is this is gonna be a card
09:27is i can hit a double colon
09:28you notice that now it's bolded so
09:32telling it that this is going to be
09:33what's called a rim a ram is this thick
09:35you can hear around the flash card
09:37that's basically what it is and then you
09:39put your answer here so i can put
09:40charlie bucket because
09:41and while you walk into chocolate
09:43factory that's the answer
09:45i can come down here
09:48and you know now that that is actually
09:53okay so now that we've created that i
09:55can actually come down here
09:56to on the bottom window here and where
10:00you can actually see my card right which
10:02is really kind of cool
10:04i can sit there and see that i have the
10:06question who got the final golden ticket
10:08and i can see the answer on the back
10:10i'll show you how to process through a
10:11queue later on in the video
10:14so that's how you add a basic one but
10:17so let's talk about let's say you had
10:20card that had multiple pieces to it so
10:24keeping with my charlie chocolate
10:28list the five golden ticket winners
10:35all right and then what i might do here
10:39and i'll do another colon and now when
10:42you do three columns but that's telling
10:44telling rev note is that my answer is
10:48going to have multiple segments to it
10:50each one denoted by a bullet point as
10:53my i get this bullet point in here
10:55that's indented from
10:57this this one right here so i can sit
11:00verrucka salt and now i have to remember
11:13mike tv charlie bucket
11:23and i did remember them because that's
11:25my favorite show of all time
11:27if you want to get out you just hit the
11:30back out and just come down and then now
11:32i have that so that that is now
11:34added to my thing and if i come down
11:38enable practice click on this
11:41come down here to practice and you can
11:43see my card's down here
11:45that's my five golden ticket winners and
11:46then you see the five
11:48on the answer of course it won't show up
11:52right here so i have to do that there
11:54back this backwards so you can actually
11:57my multiples there right which is really
12:00now what if i wanted to have an ordered
12:02list what happens if i had things that
12:05in order so if i you know list the three
12:09cookies right so list
12:16steps to making cookies
12:20i don't know what actually i do know i
12:22have cookies out of breakfast i ate them
12:24so the same thing here but colon
12:31so i'm going to go back and do that
12:36colon colon that tells it it's going to
12:39you put but instead of a third colon
12:40where it was sort of like this bulleted
12:42i'm going to put a one dot and that
12:45tells you that i want a numbered list
12:47and here i might say make cookie dough i
12:52can't cook so this is
12:53really going to be bad
13:00let cool that cookie's cool
13:05all right and then enter and then shift
13:08tab to get out of it enter again
13:11and now when i come down here i click on
13:14it and i come down here
13:16and i hover over it you can see this
13:19basic steps you can see they're listed
13:21in in order right so says some content
13:23when you're studying that you want to be
13:25able to list in a specific order
13:27this allows you to do that the last type
13:30of card i want to talk about is what's
13:32called a closed card
13:34and what a closed card is is they fill
13:37in a blank card so i kind of referenced
13:39this earlier in the video so
13:41let's say i wanted to make a
13:44blank fella in the chocolate river
13:47in charlie the chocolate factory as an
13:49example i would want to
13:51have that blank answer be augustus glue
13:54what i'm going to do here
13:59type in augustus group
14:04fell in the chocolate river
14:08right and what i want to do right now is
14:11some text so the white diptake this into
14:15uh close is to highlight it and then see
14:17this little mailbox looking
14:19inbox looking thing that's going to
14:22so i'm just going to click that of
14:24course i messed it up i'm going to undo
14:27undo that because i forgot to get the a
14:30and now i'm going to hit it
14:32and now that is now a
14:36close and the way i know that is i can
14:38come up here click as long as i click
14:40any slide where this line is
14:41i can come down here to practice
14:51and it will show up in my queue so i'm
14:53going to talk about my cues in a second
14:56so that is those are all those type of
14:58cards that you can really make
14:59and it's pretty powerful because you can
15:03you're not limited to just text you can
15:06image inside one of these
15:10cards so one of the things i can do is
15:13image right in here so i can just come
15:17in here like on this five little ticket
15:18once i want to have an image of a golden
15:21um this would be great for diagrams you
15:24pictures of things images or screenshots
15:27of things that you might be wanting that
15:29adding context to the answer that you're
15:33and if i come here and click on this and
15:36you can see that um you can actually see
15:39part of the golden ticket there and then
15:41when we do the card you'll see the full
15:43version of that so pretty cool
15:46so that covers how to make revenue cards
15:49the next thing we're going to talk about
15:51is how to access our queue okay so let's
15:54go and access our queue so
15:56you come up here to the top left in your
15:59left panel here and you're going to
16:01queue and this is going to allow you to
16:04go through your answers here
16:06now this is my entire cube you take a
16:11and go down to okay so what we can do
16:14now we have these in here what we can
16:16actually do is go over here to this
16:18and click this and we can actually go to
16:23in this document of the reminisce
16:25document when you click on that you get
16:27one is with space repetition so this is
16:29actually going to sort of
16:32hit it based upon your answers or you do
16:35without we're going to do
16:36here you can see one of our realms list
16:38of five golden ticket
16:39winners and i would think in my head and
16:41i'd go okay well i know augustus gloop i
16:44violet uh voraguard farook assault
16:48and charlie pocket and i'll hit my
16:51and as you can see i see my answer and
16:54as you remember we attached that image
16:56and there that is and i can mark this
17:00four ways here so when you're going
17:01through your cards in
17:05gram note what you want to do is
17:08as you answer the questions you want to
17:12you have four sort of things that
17:13happens right it's either
17:15hey i got it right i know it so i can
17:17either click this or press
17:19capital l um i can press a comma
17:22i can say i knew it but i really
17:23struggled to get the answer
17:25i can click and i didn't know this which
17:28and lastly accidentally press show
17:31answer too early which means
17:32i blew the question so in this case we
17:36well so i'm going to click the happy
17:40and then my second question here as you
17:42can see shows up as who got the final
17:44golden ticket well i know the answer to
17:46that too it's charlie bucket
17:47so i can show answer sure enough charlie
17:49bucket now if i were to press one of
17:51these other ones as i mentioned earlier
17:53each of these will create a different
17:55right so space representation is based
17:57upon how you know you
17:58well you currently know it and rev note
18:00actually has an algorithm that allows it
18:02that it assigns how often it shows you
18:06a particular question based on how well
18:09if i know it really well it might wait a
18:11little longer to show it to me again
18:14whereas if i didn't know it at all it
18:16would have a much shorter window and if
18:17i only kind of knew it i'd probably
18:19have uh if i bring it back to me again
18:23between the two that we knowing it
18:25really well and not knowing it at all
18:27so it's really a cool way to learn how
18:31you know to learn the content you're
18:32trying to learn so again we knew this
18:34one so i'm going to hit i notice
18:36and as you can see when you finish your
18:40it'll actually give you a nice little
18:42animation of confetti as you can see
18:44here and it'll tell you you hit your
18:46it'll tell you how long it did it took
18:48you to get through them and then
18:50you've hit it for how many days in a row
18:51so it's sort of that gamification
18:54thing that kind of you know is really
18:55popular right now with various
18:58like this you know whether it's habit
18:59trackers or you know productivity tools
19:02that make it a little fun because you
19:04want to like you know the old jerry
19:06don't break the chain like work on
19:08something every day and then you get a
19:10longer longer chain the longer the chain
19:12you really want to break it which kind
19:14of inspires you to want to
19:17continue doing the thing you're supposed
19:20pretty cool you can just click off there
19:22as well and you can go back to documents
19:24and go back to my document just clicking
19:25here on the left hand side and that's
19:28that so i'm going to now take you
19:29a couple of example ones that i've
19:33so for example i actually have a data
19:37page here um from my course
19:40i could actually come in here and put my
19:41link i didn't do it yet but i can
19:43actually put my reference links in there
19:44and you can see i have you know i have a
19:48of various data here so these are
19:51as you can see this is a very simple one
19:54close here what is the insides and
19:56that's the answer i have one that has a
19:58number list that we talked about earlier
20:00i also have one here that
20:02has just a unordered list of items
20:05and you know i have an image here as
20:08i have this one here and i can sit here
20:12i don't want to see this i can actually
20:13fold it up and one of the cool things
20:16rev note is it actually will come down
20:18here and tell you how many references
20:20there are to this document from other
20:24rems so and i'll actually list some of
20:28and it gives you the you know the opcs
20:29for more but you can see like my data
20:32uh what i have a missing round here uh
20:35data science is using the definition
20:37here that's referencing this page
20:40um so whenever you that's where the
20:43of revenue comes into play and you can
20:46various pieces of content together and
20:50you know you you'll let you can
20:52reference a ram in a page you know if
20:54you're on one page and you're listing
20:56information that might be applicable
20:58you can actually reference that that
20:59realm on another page you could
21:02that other page and yeah so you might be
21:05i might be down here for example i'm
21:08come down here and let's say i was you
21:11know i wanted to reference big data so
21:15hit double double um left bracket
21:18and then type in big data and you can
21:21see i have a big data page right here
21:23that comes up i can click that and i
21:27is part of data science really simple
21:31basic thing here but like you get the
21:34i have this link in here so whenever i
21:38so if i'm reviewing my notes on data
21:40science and i want to know well what's
21:41big data i can click on that and then i
21:44a very simple definition here of the
21:47or qualities that that make up big data
21:49which is volume velocity and variety in
21:52and you know if i want to go back you
21:54know i'm right back on my page
21:56and you can see it it shows you that
21:58it's a page i can also
21:59create a reference here to a specific
22:02gram so let's say i had one
22:07got the final golden ticket i can
22:08actually put that in here
22:11right as a ram so if i want to
22:14i can click on that you know give me
22:18the linking capabilities inside of
22:21rev note are pretty significant you can
22:25tags so i can actually come in here
22:28on my page and i can actually create you
22:31a tag for hashtag wonka
22:41and i have a little tag here they call
22:43this stuff but it's basically a tag
22:46uh on that piece of data now so and if i
22:49can come back here and i can also
22:53and now it already knows i have one so i
22:55can just click that there and that
22:57as well and that becomes searchable so i
23:00can also click on that
23:02and i can see everything that has that
23:07so multiple ways to sort of
23:10parse your data and search for it
23:13inside of rem note the last thing i want
23:17for how to use rem note is
23:20how to create folders so you can create
23:23documents you can also create folders
23:24that house your documents and i'm going
23:26how to do that real quick so if you come
23:28over here to the left hand side
23:29you have search for a document add a
23:31folder create a new document today's
23:34and create a new document you can come
23:36here to click now so if you add a folder
23:38i can click on that and it's going to
23:40and i can say this is my wonka folder
23:44all right and let's say i want to take
23:47youtube video on rem note and drag that
23:51pick it up and drag it as you just saw
23:53me do there and now that's in my wonka
23:56folder so if i click my wonka folder you
23:57can see youtube video on run note
23:59i can actually change the name of this
24:00by clicking on it clicking on it excuse
24:03clicking on the little icon come in here
24:04and just change it to
24:09hit enter and then click on it excuse me
24:12and now it's wonka trivia
24:14and i can put a bunch of different
24:16things in here as information i'm
