00:00Assassin's Creed has put forward an
00:02apology they've said we're sorry now
00:07for let's find out the Assassin's Creed
00:09Shadows team has a message for our
00:11Japanese Community I was about to say I
00:14don't think they'd be able to read
00:16this but okay yeah it's down below there
00:20cuz I was like well if it's wait a
00:22second you know cuz like you know it
00:25they right to our esteemed Japanese
00:28Community a message from the ass
00:29Assassin's Creed development team first
00:31we want to express our heartfelt thanks
00:32for all the support of Assassin's Creed
00:35uh over the time we explored various
00:37settings Viking 9th century England uh
00:39for many our team creating an Assassin's
00:41Creed game set in feudal Japan has been
00:42a long-cherished dream uh since the
00:45announcement of Assassin's Creed Shadows
00:46we've received many positive reactions
00:48yeah I'm sure they've received dozens of
00:49positive reactions uh but also some
00:52criticism including from you our
00:54Japanese players we share your passion
00:56for history and deeply respect you care
00:58for your historical and cultural
01:00Integrity of your Rich Heritage we would
01:01like to address a few points to clarify
01:03our intentions and creative
01:05decisions okay here we
01:07go overall authenticity efforts we have
01:10put significant effort into ensuring an
01:11immersive and respectful representation
01:13of feudal Japan okay
01:19okay I don't know how it was in feudal
01:23Japan but I bet walking around in the
01:26town with like your armor on did not not
01:30make every citizen bow to you and be
01:32like oh wow you're so amazing bro yuk
01:35walking through that town was like Jesus
01:39coming back from being in the desert for
01:4140 days it was more bro they were
01:48crazy it was nuts like I would not be
01:51surpris I did yeah what do you
01:53mean a glazing yes absolutely he's not
01:57the king yes the the [Â __Â ] emperor
02:00however Our intention has never been to
02:02present any of our Assassin's Creed
02:04games uh as factual representations of
02:07history or historical characters instead
02:09we aim to spark curiosity and encourage
02:11players to explore and learn more about
02:14the historical settings we get inspired
02:16by I think that people wouldn't have as
02:17much of a problem if you made up a
02:20character but the f I I think that what
02:22people are really annoyed at with the
02:24Assassin's Creed thing is the fact that
02:26a lot of this seems to be built on a
02:28very shaky Foundation
02:30and on top of it being built on a very
02:32shaky Foundation it's also built off of
02:37a holier than thou approach of like what
02:41do you mean he's not a samurai are you
02:43some kind of a racist what do you mean
02:45this isn't relevant are you some kind of
02:47a racist and I think that's what people
02:49really don't [Â __Â ] like people don't
02:51like something that's happening for an
02:53obvious reason and anybody that calls it
02:56out is is like shamed into being quiet
03:00it's [Â __Â ] annoying it's so obnoxious
03:02to see people like this yeah it's
03:04awful yeah how does it affect you bro
03:07how does it affect you by doing
03:09it what's the most historic Assassin's
03:11Creed I don't know I I think that really
03:13the difference here is that with a lot
03:15of the other existing main characters in
03:17stories as far as I know and guys
03:19correct me if I'm wrong but many of the
03:22characters that are created in the
03:23Assassin's Creed games are fictional
03:26characters these are not historical
03:29characters I understand that in some
03:30games you interact with historical
03:32characters but I'm talking about playing
03:33a character like Ezio like all these so
03:36it's a very different topic in a very
03:38different conversation when you're
03:40making a character that is completely
03:43fake and it's like I am inventing this
03:45character for the story versus I am
03:48creating this character from a
03:50historical context and then saying this
03:52is who the character was and then if
03:54anybody questions it or says this might
03:56be off I'm calling them a racist
03:59this is very different you're you're
04:02like in one case you are basically
04:04writing fan fiction and in the other
04:06case you are rewriting
04:08history it's a massive [Â __Â ]
04:12difference if it was a historical battle
04:14with fictional Samurai well here's the
04:20thing do y'all ever think that they'd
04:22ever make an Assassin's Creed game where
04:24you help the South win the civil war
04:26absolutely [Â __Â ] not do you think that
04:29they'd ever make a civil war movie where
04:31you help Nazis absolutely [Â __Â ] not no
04:35it's because the reason why they're
04:36doing this and they're presenting it
04:38this way is because it aligns with their
04:39worldview and they're trying to push
04:42this out there to everybody that's the
04:44reason why they're trying to Virtue
04:45signal because their company was
04:47embroiled in as much sexual harassment
04:48lawsuit stuff as blizzard was they're
04:51trying to make up for the fact that if
04:53you look at the actual development
04:54Studio you look at the people that work
04:55at the company it's just a bunch of
04:57[Â __Â ] white people but they want to
04:59act like they're super diverse into
05:00video games and why is it I think that
05:02they're overcompensating personally but
05:04you know that's just my opinion so yeah
05:07it's it it you don't really care about
05:09the you know making a telling a story
05:11you you care about doing it in a way
05:13that is congruent that makes you look
05:18matters it's so inauthentic inste we end
05:21spark Assassin's Creed Shadows is first
05:23and foremost designed to be an
05:24entertaining video game that tells a
05:25compelling historical fiction said in
05:27feudal Japan our team extends ly
05:29collaborated with external Consultants
05:31historians researchers and internal
05:33teams at Ubisoft Japan to inform our
05:36choices right okay so
05:40um I mean yeah those historians about
05:43that yeah that was not so good huh the
05:47irony is they can't please
05:49everyone the Assassin's Creed hasn't
05:51been good since Black Flag I don't know
05:53but uh Assassin's Creed 3 was the
05:55American Revolution not Civil War well
05:56yeah I mean I I I knew they did one
05:58about Revolutionary War but that that's
06:01different I don't think Japan likes that
06:04yeah I mean let's see here despite these
06:06sustained efforts we acknowledge that
06:08some elements in our promotional
06:09material may have caused concern within
06:10the Japanese Community for this we
06:12sincerely apologize all the game footage
06:14presented so far is in development and
06:15the game will keep evolving into launch
06:17based on your constructive criticism
06:19that we have received we will continue
06:21our efforts until we put this game in
06:22your hands and Beyond we do want to
06:24clarify that while there have been
06:25Consulting with many people throughout
06:26the development process they are in no
06:28way responsible for the decisions that
06:30are taken by the creative teams yeah
06:31yeah of course right coincidentally
06:33respectfully request that any criticism
06:35not be directed our collaborators both
06:37internal and external well of course
06:39people are going to criticize the
06:40collaborators because they're the ones
06:42that are like you know for example there
06:44was that one female uh Japanese person
06:48and like they had written books about
06:50like what was it like uh relationships
06:53between like men and young boys and
06:55talking about that I'm pretty sure like
06:58I don't remember exactly like what the
06:59deta yeah boy no right there's that one
07:01and then there's the other one so like
07:03yeah we bring it up but we're not
07:05criticizing really for that it's like oh
07:06this is the person that you have oh
07:08you're going to bring this person on
07:09this this weirdo what the [Â __Â ]
07:13so for showing most from my experience
07:15yeah yeah for sure I I'm glad I did most
07:17of the controversial games is late I
07:19didn't plan on playing anyway yeah Hama
07:22uh a historian as said uh Yuki was most
07:25likely a samurai Most Japanese people
07:27had problems with the minute details of
07:29the game yeah but then other people like
07:31I I saw that but then I saw other people
07:32saying that the guy was like a communist
07:34and like other people that were part of
07:37that Community were saying that he was
07:38wrong like honestly I I don't know I
07:39don't speak I don't speak Japanese I'm
07:41not sure what's what's really going on
07:46culture yeah the historian was heavily
07:50yeah so yeah let me go back to look at
07:52the rest of this creative Liberties and
07:54other historical uh Inspirations while
07:56we strive for authenticity in everything
07:57we do Assassin's Creed game are works of
07:59fiction inspired by real historical
08:01events and figures from its Inception
08:03the series has taken creative license
08:05and Incorporated fantasy elements to
08:06craft engaging and immersive experiences
08:08the representation of yasuke in our game
08:11is an illustration of this his unique
08:13and mysterious life made him an ideal
08:14candidate to tell an Assassin's Creed
08:16story with the feudal Japan as a
08:18backdrop while Yuki is depicted as a
08:20samurai in Assassin's Creed we
08:21acknowledge that this is a matter of
08:23debate and discussion uh we have Loven
08:25this carefully into our narrative uh and
08:27with our other lead character the
08:28Japanese Shinobi uh who is equally
08:30important to the game our dual
08:31protagonists provide players with
08:37so I think this is the reason why a lot
08:40of this creative stuff kind of
08:41completely Falls flat why is communist
08:44scene as something bad it's just a
08:47democracy um people view capitalism as
08:51really bad too like people I I feel like
08:54I think a better comparison is like uh
08:56capitalism versus communism I feel like
08:58people say that's bad all the time like
09:00people say what do you call it
09:04awful communism equals democracy yeah
09:07bro like it's not and also
09:09like I think it it's fair to say that as
09:12far as I know every implementation of
09:16bad like I I'm pretty sure we don't have
09:18a lot of like really really great
09:21countries so yeah I mean I I feel like
09:24whereas like we have a lot of really
09:26great capitalist countries like America
09:28America is great compared to like hey
09:30any of the communist countries you want
09:32to say America's bad uhhuh for sure uh
09:34compare it to the [Â __Â ] communist
09:36countries America's great absolutely
09:40thing is yeah it's not even a
09:42question yeah anybody who's by the way
09:44if you are if you are trying to debate
09:46this with me you have totally lost the
09:49plot and and I hope that you do not ever
09:52have to live in a country where you have
09:56words I pray that never do you have to
09:59be held accountable and see that you're
10:04firsthand anyway does it make sense oh
10:07it does it makes sense to every person
10:10normal American vets are living on the
10:12streets yep you're right and it's still
10:13a lot better than any of the communist
10:15countries absolutely it's not even a
10:16question like yeah nobody's saying
10:18America's perfect nobody ever said that
10:20absolutely not it's sure hell a lot
10:22better than what they have so yeah
10:24anyway let's go back we'll talk about
10:26this a bit more right I mean it's that
10:28that's that's [Â __Â ] tangent here's the
10:31point is that I think that everybody can
10:33see that the reason why they put yuk in
10:35the game is so they can position
10:37themselves as caring about diversity
10:39while being once again a pretty much
10:41all-white uh Studio that has been
10:43embroiled in different types of sexual
10:45harassment lawsuits and different types
10:47of controversy over the years uh that
10:50was the reason why the character was
10:51included this way so if you want to talk
10:53about taking creative Liberties I don't
10:55necessarily respect that level of
10:57creativity because it happens only in a
10:59way that is performative uh these people
11:02do not live this way they do not behave
11:04this way they do not act this way they
11:06perform this way in order to pay
11:09credibility to a ideology that they
11:12actually do not live and I think that
11:15everybody can see that Optics again yeah
11:16it's just Optics and I think that's why
11:18people are really offended about it
11:20that's why people are very annoyed about
11:24so de is going crazy virtu signal on
11:27this one well it it's not Dei right I
11:28mean like it's just a bad decision like
11:31the point that I'm making is
11:33that if you want to talk about taking
11:35creative Liberties I think that for
11:38example if you had George Washington and
11:40you made a story about George Washington
11:43and you dramatically changed his
11:44personality or you made George
11:46Washington gay I think people would
11:50problematic I would I I I I I would
11:53consider that problematic because you're
11:55changing an existing character
11:56Assassin's Creed so was was George
11:58Washington gay in Assassin's Creed
12:023 I know he was in the game that's why I
12:05used him as an example yeah they made
12:07him evil and made him want rule as a
12:08king yeah I think the difference is
12:13that that's perceived as a creative
12:16decision whereas the sexuality and race
12:20implementations are seen as
12:22performative and I think it's true I
12:24think that's actually what
12:26happened this a DLC yeah
12:32it was an alternate reality DLC yeah I'm
12:34not sure exactly I haven't played it
12:35myself so yeah either way I think that
12:39everybody is [Â __Â ] pissed about this
12:40let me go back and read some of these uh
12:42remove Johnny sale from your game few
12:45sales me Johnny Somali um get woke we
12:48broke yeah sure I feel like people have
12:50completely forgotten the screen shows up
12:52when you play any Assassin's Creed game
12:53the games are always historical fictions
12:54not meant to be literal history books
12:56yeah but I I I so I'm trying to think
13:02back did they say that yuk was a samurai
13:05whenever they did that video I'm trying
13:08to think back did that
13:13happen they did I want to find it let me
13:16see if they actually said
13:22it and he to recal correct the Samurai
13:27Shinobi two two perfect archetypes for
13:32protagonist you'll embodi the deadliest
13:35train assassin in history the Shinobi
13:39with na a young woman from the mountains
13:42of Higa Province who was forced by War
13:45to learn the Arts of
13:47deception you also experienc Japan
13:50Through The Eyes of yasi and historical
13:53character whose Legion is surrounded by
13:56Mysteries it allow us to tell the story
13:59of a foreigner who becomes a samurai
14:02under OD Nobunaga the most powerful Deo
14:07time okay so they said
14:21so if they had never said that I feel
14:24like they would have a
14:25point but they were pushing this
14:31like they've been pushing this the whole
14:34time they're backpedaling
14:39yes didn't fully [Â __Â ] up they
14:41acknowledge his history of shrouded
14:42mystery yeah but then they immediately
14:44said what the history
14:47was IGN and games subsites were also
14:49pushing this hard yeah of
14:53course I'm confused what's the actual
14:55history in uh saying yuk wasn't a
14:57samurai well there acknowledging that it
15:00was a contested fact that's the
15:04point yeah like they they literally said
15:07it themselves like I'm not talking like
15:09I I'm not saying this I'm saying that
15:17saying Jack gr there's the difference uh
15:20between uh Japan and English version of
15:22trying to gasl light both what
15:30I started out a long thoughtful rebuttal
15:32to Assassin's Creed apology then I
15:33remembered this is the internet instead
15:36of corporate speak this is my
15:44just this is just him talking about it
15:46being bad there's a difference between
15:48the English and Japanese
15:51apology they think that we only center
15:53around yuk as a Samurai and an English
15:56part that shows that they deliberately
15:57used yuk for their narrative
16:03of I don't really think that's as big of
16:05a difference like I I I don't think
16:07that's that's not noteworthy
16:09enough yeah cuz also like it it's just
16:12it's a different language it it's
16:14probably chat gped anyway and so
16:20like like I so there's this one girl
16:23that I was talking to and she could
16:24really barely speak English and so I
16:26would have to like talk to her with
16:28Google translate but she she was really
16:29hot so I did it anyway and so um there
16:33would all the time be like translation
16:35issues with like things that she would
16:37send me or things I would send her all
16:38the time and so I know this firsthand
16:43okay I I I I I am willing to iMed as
16:46somebody who has experience in this in
16:49this issue uh I I am immediately willing
16:52to completely handwave
16:56this B yeah that's that's the way it is
17:03uh I I I feel like again it's just the
17:08reason why they're doing this and
17:09everything I'm glad to see them putting
17:11out a statement about it I think it's
17:13kind of funny but I think that if they
17:15didn't push the narrative about the guy
17:16being a Samurai and then everybody
17:18wasn't so uh you know like a
17:20sanctimonious about pushing it I don't
17:22think that you would have seen as much
17:24push back but I think the problem is
17:26that it was done and then anybody who
17:28questioned it was was tried to like
17:31they're trying to play this person off
17:32as a racist like no I don't think so and
17:35I think that uh that that level of
17:37dishonesty a lot of people online and I
17:39think in the world are really tired of
17:41it I think people are tired of you know
17:44noticing something that's in plain sight
17:46and then being guilted or bullied into
17:49pretending like it's not there I think a
17:51lot of people are really exhausted by
17:54that blatant gaslighting yeah it's it's
17:56the obvious gaslighting and yeah I don't
17:59think anybody should uh should tolerate
18:08reason everyone started calling this uh
18:10[Â __Â ] out now and not like uh and not
18:12just going with it before yeah and I
18:14think that's a good thing history is not
18:16the only problem finally get a game set
18:17in in Japan you don't get to play a
18:19Japanese male instead you play an
18:20African talk about cultural intivity
18:22yeah exactly and like yeah why wouldn't
18:24they want to like again you just happen
18:27to pick this one person like it's
18:29obvious why they did it like and I think
18:32that that's that's the reason why I
18:34think people are very tired of Western
18:35Studios that are doing things for
18:37obvious virtue signal reasons that
18:39pretend like they're not it's so
18:42exhausting serious just taking creative
18:44license and corporative fantasy the
18:46representation ofus they said it yeah of
18:49course right but they didn't originally
18:50say that they they've backed down into
18:54that I whyn't just play it safe and make
18:56Japanese ninja Assassin's Creed game it
18:58wouldn't done a lot better than us the
19:00reason why is because the people in that
19:02company care more about looking good
19:03than making a good game probably it's
19:05the same as everybody else like it's so
19:07exhaust I I hate these people I do I I
19:10feel like ever since I've started
19:11covering this kind of stuff I've just
19:13like I've noticed how much more of this
19:16like fakery there is and I find it to be
19:20very exhausting and you you want to know
19:22the reason why I find it to be very
19:23problematic and why I'm very against it
19:25is because I think it's incredibly
19:27counterproductive I think that you know
19:30example like everybody in the world
19:33identifies with Goku any guy between the
19:35ages of 12 to 30 probably grew up at one
19:38point or another said I want to look
19:39like Goku or I want to be like Goku
19:41right uh it's not this like weird
19:44abstraction and like I think the people
19:46that try to push this narrative these
19:52are they're not normal people they're
19:55not like people that had friends growing
19:58up they're not people that were normal
20:01growing up these are like the weird kids
20:04that nobody wanted to be friends with in
20:05middle school and high school these are
20:07the people who uh you know could never
20:09get along with anybody else uh these are
20:13like just marginalized weird freaks that
20:16have gotten together on the internet and
20:18collectively bully anybody else who
20:20dares question their bad
20:23behavior there's a reason why they're on
20:25the internet crying and doing this weird
20:27[Â __Â ] and not out in real life making a
20:29difference or doing anything that makes
20:31them happy you read these people's
20:32Twitter accounts and they're just
20:34[Â __Â ] losers uh that's the
20:36truth Goku's a good guy yeah exactly a
20:39hard pass on the game I I I'll play it
20:41for sure now like I mean you guys know I
20:43have to play it for for sure uh my
20:45response [Â __Â ] you yeah they knew what
20:46they were doing yeah they obviously knew
20:48what they were doing the the entire
