00:002024 is the best year to become an indie game
developer it's actually so good that I personally
00:05believe that Dani. You might come back you might
be wondering why you should trust us even if our
00:10years of experience in the industry as showcased
in our previous videos about our gamedev journey
00:16didn't really convince you just look around and
notice which games were most talked about in 2023.
00:23Indie games like palworld or lethal company are
taking the World by storm while big titles like
00:28Starfield or suicide Squad are just drastically
losing popularity but why will 2024 be so great
00:35for Indie Game Dev especially for those who just
starting out primarily because of the fantastic
00:41free that nobody had access to before or they were
just too crappy and nobody really wanted to use
00:47them as a powerful example of what you are capable
of nowadays I need to mention a very controversial
00:54case involving a 16 years old boy who won the
competition competition for best animation of
00:59the year 2023 it's not even him winning the prize
that's controversial what bothered lots of people
01:06was the fact that the animation looked like
it was made by the huge Studio definitely not
01:11by a single person definitely not by that young
person people even claimed that he was cheating
01:17yet he claimed not to violated any rules of
the competition he was simply using available
01:22shortcuts and tools in the industry and allowed
in the competition as well and now the question
01:28is what do you think about about it is it fair to
use available tools nowadays or maybe he should
01:34do everything from scratch to the end like
by himself I personally think that we really
01:40don't have to suffer when it's not necessary indie
gamedevs already have a lot on their plate so I'm
01:46happy with every shortcut and every external help
that I might receive and today I will prove to you
01:52that Indie Game Dev doesn't need to be such a pain
anymore and I will start with one of the biggest
01:58fears for solo devs which is Art and exactly to
the art but before that a quick question to you
02:05do you already use Adobe Photoshop hm do you if
your answer is yes I have to tell you to stop I
02:12mean no I'm serious stop uninstall it get rid
of it surprising huh Adobe is the enemy of the
02:19creativity if you ever used Photoshop or Premier
Pro you know what I'm talking about if you are a
02:25beginner you can't do anything in these programs
and as a you already have to do like 2,000 other
02:32things yet Adobe software only adds another layer
of complexity and it's completely okay to feel
02:39overwhelmed by that for a long long time I felt
guilty for not dedicating enough time learning
02:45Adobe and enhancing my Graphics I thought it was
my fault and I should be more productive but you
02:51know what I didn't have to label myself as lazy
after all I was already creating like the entire
02:58game and I I assure you you don't have to spend
so much time and regret especially when it comes
03:05to to the art and let's not forget that adobe
programs are quite expensive luckily that's not a
03:13problem this year you can create your promotional
materials in free and much easier programs oh and
03:19it's not a sponsored video I mean I wish it was
but it's not for your 2D art I highly recommend
03:25downloading a free program called KRITA I tried
it recently and the results just exceeded my
03:31expectations initially I thought it might be a
waste of time because I already knew Photoshop
03:37and switching program just seems difficult however
I didn't need to learn Krita at all I managed to
03:44figure out everything by simply just clicking
the buttons that looked like they would solve
03:49my problem and right now you might be thinking
okay using Photoshop might be more difficult
03:57but that's a popular program so there are many
tutorials for it however Krita was so easy to use
04:04that I didn't need a tutorial at all after just
one day of using it I created a better looking
04:11art than in Photoshop like ever so that's the
very first thing Krita is very easy to use and
04:18you no longer have to worry after spending hours
of programming that you have to struggle with 2D
04:23art as well just because you are unsure where to
click or what to do in Photoshop but the ease of
04:30use isn't the only Advantage Krita also offers
multiple brushes and now you might be thinking
04:35wow but adobe also has brushes that's true but
I actually prefer crita brushes there are a lot
04:43of them they are easy to use Easy to see easy to
find and they create really cool effects since I
04:49was constantly looking at the brushes I had more
idea while creating 2D art in Photoshop I had to
04:55plan ahead to use a certain brush which limited
my creativity but with Krita I could come up with
05:01something while working on different things for
example while I was placing text on a poster I
05:07kept like glancing on the brushes and came up
with the cool ideas I could add I even had fun
05:13trying out them something I never experiened
in Photoshop so once again Krita offers like
05:19a perfect clarity very cool tools resulting in
a beautiful effects and you know what's even
05:26better the program is completely free you have a
perfect tool for beginners that can easily handle
05:32everything you need for your indie game with even
better results and it's free I felt in love with
05:38it and I hope you will too moving on to another
challenge for Indie developers marketing let's
05:45start with YouTube especially video editing even
if you are not aiming to be an indie developer on
05:51YouTube you will need to edit your video at least
once because steam requires a game trailer when
05:56you want to release your game and that brings as
back to Adobe programs exactly Adobe premere Pro
06:06and by the way that program was the inspiration
for this video we were editing a short clip and
06:12it took us around 2 hours it felt just impossible
to be forced into something like that for a simple
06:18video editing I mean come on it's 2024 technology
is advancing rapidly and yet we still have to use
06:25key frames for every animation so we started
looking for a new solution and we found cap cut
06:31a completely free alternative for editing videos
testing it out I was shocked by how much easier
06:38editing became there are various pe-made effects
there are various pre-made animations that you can
06:45just simply drop onto your video need a fany
transition no need for key frames or tears on
06:51Adobe just apply the effect and drop it in if you
are used to key frames you can still use them but
06:56who has the time for that when there are so many
Cool Tools available capup cut is free intuitive
07:03and comes with pre-made effects and filters as an
example of famous people who seem to use capcut I
07:10have a huge impression that PewDiePie edits his
video in that program I mean it might be a wild
07:16guess because it's not like I could talk to him
about that but I saw on caput the same transition
07:22the same transitions as PewDiePie uses in his
Vlogs but back to the program itself it has
07:28many more advantages you don't have to search for
sounds effects you can download them directly the
07:34time saved from searching for sounds can be used
to try out different available sounds and play
07:39them in your video y the same go for music you can
also customize the style of text including premade
07:48effects like popping up want a fancy sticker you
can choose from the options or create one using
07:53their AI feature with all these features like
sound effects transitions filters text it's easy
07:59to find find what you want I highly recommend you
trying it out for yourself and finally have some
08:04fun during editing your video do you know what
else is great capup cut offers let's call it the
08:09full YouTube experience because it's not just
a program to help you edit your videos it also
08:15assists you with your thumbnails you simply have
to visit the cup cut website and choose from the
08:20already available thumbnails I can tell you they
work pretty well it saves a lot of time you don't
08:26have to design your own thumbnail or search for
a tutorial on how to do it in Photoshop literally
08:32all you need to do is put your graphics into the
existing thumbnails it's very cool it saves you
08:37a lot of time and to be honest it dramatically
improved the quality of my own YouTube videos
08:43once again this program is easy is amazing it's
goodlook and completely free and you know what
08:49else is goodlooking and free our new game we are
currently working on what a smooth transition
08:55right however we are currently developing a free
demo of our Survival game called survivaLuck
09:02survivaLuck is genuinely inspired by Muck yet the
Muck that Dai made we are aiming for epic battles
09:09super boss fights visually stunning graphics
and meaningful Base building in Muck building
09:15a base was practically pointless not only did it
not serve much purpose but it was obliterated by
09:21enemies in very seconds in like literally seconds
in survival act the base will matter making our
09:27characters progressively stronger we all also plan
on incorporating various School dungeons overall
09:32we want survival act to be what Mac could have
been if then decided to develop and work on it
09:37for several years however let's go back to life
saving tools for India developers of course in
09:43this video we have to mention AI but before we
get triggered because AI is a very hot topic
09:50right now let me tell you what I use AI for when
I talk about AI I mean CH GPT in its free version
09:57so as you probably know English is not my first
language I can communicate smoothly but I still
10:03make mistakes and my English vocab isn't always
very rich sometimes however you really need it to
10:08be professional for example for all the steam
page descriptions you want your steam page to
10:13look as professional as possible that's when I use
chat GPT first I come up with the description and
10:19write it in simple English then I put it into
chat GPT and ask it to correct the mistakes to
10:25make more advanced vocabulary and check if it's
understandable enough you might also need to
10:31shorten your text for short description on Steam
so we literally write your to your chat make it
10:37shorter let's say up to 60 words now once you
understand that you can use it to create steam
10:43page in English which is not your first language
then why can't you do localization you can take
10:49us as an example after releasing our second
game we found out that 50% of our sales were
10:55from Russia yet we didn't have the localization
and we started receiving negative reviews for
11:00that so we decided to make localization using
CH GPT that seemed like a challenge it wasn't
11:06just a whole different language it also had
a different alphabet but CH GPT did it really
11:12well we made a steam page translation and also
localize it inside the game it worked amazingly
11:19of course we recommend working a little bit with
such a text what I mean is after you translated
11:24with chat GPT for a certain language translate
back using a different window of chat GPT or a
11:29whole different program like Google Translate
for example just to make sure that everything
11:34is correct however considering the fact that
we managed to make localization in Russian we
11:40decided to add localization in many different
languages like Spanish Italian or even Chinese
11:45how amazing is that we are living in the times
when a solo Indie developer or in our case two
11:50people can not only make a game by themselves but
also transl translated into all those different
11:57languages amazing times for solo devs something
like that wasn't possible before not in such a
12:03short amount of time not for free and not with
that impressive results let me know in the
12:08comments if you find this type of video helpful
perhaps I should make another one featuring like
12:133D art or programming I would also love to hear
your opinion what do you think about the tools
12:20I mentioned in this video or the tools at all but
today thank you for watching and see you next time
