00:00hey guys will here so today's video is
00:01one that I've been excited to put
00:03together for quite some time now as you
00:04can see in front of me I have the Sim
00:06magic Alpha mini Alpha and Alpha U or
00:09Alpha
00:10[Music]
00:11ultimate what we're going to be doing in
00:13today's video is cross comparing not
00:14only all three of these wheelbases
00:16against each other to help you guys
00:18decide which one of these might be most
00:19suited to your specific needs we're also
00:21going to be cross comparing all three of
00:22these guys against their competitors
00:24within the direct drive market so a lot
00:26to get through today we're going to try
00:27and get through it as quickly as we
00:28possibly can so let's dive
00:34in so as always some quick housekeeping
00:37stuff just so you have the full context
00:38of exactly what we're doing today so
00:39firstly big thank you to sim magic for
00:41sending across all of this gear for us
00:43to check out for the purposes of this
00:45review and all the others that we'll be
00:46doing over the next couple of months now
00:48I do want to quickly mention that we do
00:49have another video which I would
00:51recommend you check out if you haven't
00:52already seen it uh going over the the
00:54full Sim magic ecosystem so looking at
00:55the shifters the pedals and whatnot we
00:57are going to be doing more specific
00:58reviews of each of those products like
01:00what we're doing here in today's video
01:02but definitely watch that video as a
01:03precursor to what we're going to be
01:04talking about today because there will
01:05be some assumed knowledge in today's
01:07video just to try and keep things a
01:08little bit shorter so big thank you to
01:10them for sending this gear across to us
01:12now we will as I mentioned also be cross
01:13comparing against most competitive
01:15products in today's video as well so
01:17it's important that you're aware that
01:18all of those products have all been
01:20provided to us under the exact same
01:21conditions now we do also have some
01:23affiliate links available down in the
01:24description box below as well as some
01:26discount codes for most of the brands
01:28that we're going to be talking about
01:29today so regard regardless of what you
01:30might want to pick up if anything that
01:32is an awesome way of helping support our
01:33work here at booster media without it
01:34costing you a scent and we do really
01:36appreciate your support there so as as
01:37always the case here at booster media
01:39we're not under any sort of obligation
01:40to say any specific things and
01:42everything we're going to be covering in
01:43today's video is purely just my own
01:44observations and my own opinions having
01:46been putting these through their Paces
01:48for a very extended period of time now
01:50against all their competitors as well so
01:53let's dive in first of all talking about
01:55pricing now I don't want to get bogged
01:56down in pricing for today's video but
01:58just to give you the quick rundown on
01:59all three of these guys here so all the
02:01price that we're discussing here has
02:03been taken off the sim magic website the
02:05day that we're recording this video so
02:06as is always the case with pricing but
02:08particular with Sim magic singers
02:09they've got such a well established
02:11distribution Network around the world it
02:12does pay to shop around even though we
02:14do have that discount code down below I
02:16would recommend shop around make sure
02:17you're getting the best possible deal
02:18because you may be able to avoid uh
02:20import duties and things like that if
02:21you buy from a local distributor but to
02:24give you the pricing directly from the
02:25Sim magic website Alpha mini comes in at
02:28539 at the time of recording this video
02:31the standard Alpha comes in at
02:34$769 and the alpha U comes in at
02:37$999 they just dropped the price of that
02:39from
02:40$1,029 so without getting completely
02:42bogged down in pricing here that puts it
02:44at relative parody with an equivalent uh
02:46strength base from Mozza comparing with
02:49fitech and their new club sport models
02:51it's a little bit more complicated
02:52because they don't have a model that
02:54kind of matches equivalent strength
02:55directly their DD plus is similar to the
02:58kind of strength that you feel feel in
03:00the standard Alpha and the csdd at 12
03:03new M holding sits somewhere between the
03:05mini and the alpha do of course need to
03:07factor in their ecosystem and the fact
03:09that they do have console compatibility
03:10natively as well so that is an important
03:12consideration and I would definitely
03:14recommend you know as is the case with
03:15all of these products are comparing to
03:17we do have specific reviews of all of
03:18these we can dive in and uh really
03:20extract all the details about them that
03:22you might want if you're actually
03:23looking at buying any one of these so I
03:24would definitely recommend you do that
03:26and then comparing against acch Sim
03:27Sports similar kind of equivalent
03:30strength bases throughout their lineup
03:31as well and these Sim magic bases do
03:33come in a little bit cheaper than those
03:34ones do and then comparing against Simi
03:36Cube 2 their entry level sport is kind
03:39of more equivalent to the uh to the
03:41alpha in this range so it's kind of like
03:43one step up but all of their bases are
03:45quite significantly more expensive than
03:47what we find within the Sim magic
03:48ecosystem so that gives you a kind of
03:50Base point for comparison and again
03:52check out our full detailed reviews of
03:53all those products we will be revisiting
03:55the simu cube ecosystem over the next
03:57few months as well so make sure you're
03:59subscribed to so you don't miss out on
04:00those videos that's going to be really
04:01exciting to go through all those again
04:03for you guys so moving on from pricing
04:05now I think the first thing that is
04:07important to consider here is the wider
04:09ecosystems now as I mentioned earlier we
04:11do have the full ecosystem overview
04:13video for SIM magic and I would
04:15definitely want to again recommend
04:16checking that out if you haven't already
04:17but look to give you an understanding of
04:20why I'm placing so much weight on this
04:21overall ecosystem business is because
04:24look honestly and you guys have heard me
04:25say this in a few videos recently all of
04:28these modern direct drive wheel bases
04:30whether it's Sim magic Mozza acch simic
04:34Cube fitech even C now are pretty darn
04:36good as well vrs is another one all of
04:39those are providing a really fantastic
04:41force feedback quality these days and I
04:43think what what tends to happen is we we
04:45maybe get caught in the Trap of looking
04:47at the highest number that we can get in
04:49terms of peak strength for the lowest
04:51amount of money and kind of basing our
04:52decision primarily around that what I
04:55really want to try and get get across to
04:57you guys is that that perhaps isn't as
04:59important as it used to be it's it's
05:01kind of you know we we need to
05:02acknowledge that most people are going
05:04to find that somewhere between the 10
05:06and 15 newm Mark in terms of peak
05:07strength is more than likely going to be
05:10strong enough for for pretty much
05:11everybody unless you've got a lot of
05:13upper body strength unless you're a
05:14bodybuilder or something like that so
05:16you know the the reason I say that is
05:17because you never want to be in a
05:19situation where the car is driving you
05:21rather than you driving the car you
05:22always want to be the one controlling
05:24the car and you know I find that the
05:26majority of people I speak to that that
05:29ends up somewhere between that 12 and 14
05:31or 15 newm Mark so what you really want
05:34to do is zoom out and look at the wider
05:35ecosystem what other Hardware is
05:37available what's the quality like uh
05:39within each ecosystem and how much gear
05:40do they actually have available and that
05:41was one of the reasons why if you saw my
05:43video at the end of last year going
05:45through my Top Sim racing products for
05:47the year uh I was pretty harsh on
05:50Logitech with their G Pro Series simply
05:52because that wheelbase and their pedals
05:53are actually pretty good value and they
05:55provide a very good driving experience
05:56but they don't have that wider ecosystem
05:58they haven't expanded they hav haven't
05:59offered new Wheels they haven't offered
06:01a PR line shifter or handbrake or
06:03anything like that and I know that's
06:05something that's really disappointing
06:06for those who have bought into that
06:07ecosystem on the expectation that they
06:09would have access to higher quality
06:10peripherals but also for people that are
06:12looking at buying gear they may be
06:15sueded towards those products for
06:16certain reasons but then ultimately end
06:18up buying something else because they
06:19don't have the support of other
06:21accessories available within their
06:22ecosystem so make sure you do your
06:24research there again we have detailed
06:26review videos of pretty much everything
06:27available here on the channel so you can
06:29see exact what you're getting yourself
06:30into but in the case of the Sim magic
06:32stuff as you saw in that previous video
06:34they have a really really solid
06:35ecosystem now uh really really impressed
06:38with it their shifters their handbrakes
06:39their pedals even all very very good and
06:42their wheels are fantastic now too the
06:44uh we just reviewed the Neo wheel just
06:46recently which is actually my pick for
06:48the best value wheel in Sim racing at
06:50this point in time really really
06:52fantastic quality for the price point
06:54and you know this is something that
06:55they've really really nailed in terms of
06:57value for money within the Sim magic
06:58ecosystem so that is that is a very big
07:02strength for Sim magic before you even
07:03start to get into the quality the force
07:05feedback and whatnot now if we compare
07:07against some of the other ecosystems uh
07:09Mozza do have a pretty extensive
07:11ecosystem these days um what I would say
07:14there is their wheels just don't quite
07:16have the same quality feel that Sim
07:18magic do now Sim magic wheels are maybe
07:20a touch more expensive than some of the
07:22Mozza ones are so if you're really after
07:24you know the best bang for buck then you
07:26know maybe you'll be absolutely fine
07:28with Mozza Wheels but again check out
07:29our detailed reviews of all of those and
07:30you'll see for yourselves to some of
07:32those little things in terms of quality
07:34I just feel like Sim magic provides a
07:36more premium experience in terms of look
07:37and feel you know all all those things
07:39that may or may not be important to you
07:42comparing against fitech then they do
07:43have a more extensive ecosystem more
07:45Wheels available uh I would say that
07:47their shifter and their handbrake is
07:49nowhere near the quality of what's
07:51available within the Sim magic ecosystem
07:53they're a little bit last generation
07:54maybe more than a little bit last
07:56generation I would say in terms of their
07:57handbrake and their shift up Sim magic
07:59definitely have the upper hand there but
08:01fitech of course have a much larger
08:03selection of different wheels at various
08:04different price points now it is worth
08:06noting there as well that Sim magic
08:08don't lock out the force feedback so you
08:10are free to use any wheel that you want
08:13uh and as long as you've got a as long
08:14as you get an NRG star quick release and
08:15some way of connecting that wheel to
08:17your PC you are free to do that on Sim
08:19magic without the need for any expensive
08:21adapters fitech on the other hand do
08:23lock out force feedback so if you're not
08:24using an emulator from a third party or
08:26one of their hubs whether it be the
08:28universal hub or the podium hub
08:29uh you will have that additional cost so
08:31that is definitely something that's
08:32worth considering and again definitely
08:34an advantage to looking at some of these
08:36other ecosystems including Sim magic but
08:38they do have a more extensive native
08:40ecosystem than Sim magic does at this
08:41point in time having said that Sim magic
08:43have expanded a lot over the last couple
08:45of years I have to I have to keep
08:46remembering back that it was only you
08:48know four or five years ago now that we
08:50reviewed the uh Sim magic M10 which was
08:52the only product they had and we were
08:54really unimpressed with it at the time
08:55and you know they really have come a
08:56long way since then which is really
08:58fantastic to see more competition in the
09:00space is always a good thing uh so
09:02that's Mozza and and fitech kind of
09:04covered there again check out the full
09:06detailed reviews for the entire
09:07breakdown of that talking about acch now
09:10acch have come quite a long way in the
09:12last year they are a much newer brand to
09:13sim racing than Sim magic are forcb
09:16quality aside because we'll get into
09:17that later on I would say that Sim magic
09:20probably have an advantage in terms of
09:22their overall ecosystem at this point in
09:23time we haven't seen a shifter or
09:25handbrake from acch just yet they have
09:26just released a new button box with a
09:28selection of different Wheels check the
09:29video link down in the description below
09:31for the full breakdown of that but not
09:32quite as an extensive ecosystem as what
09:35we find with Sim magic at this point in
09:36time and then comparing against simic
09:38Cube they don't really have a lot to
09:40offer in terms of wi ecosystem they
09:42don't have shifters they don't have
09:43handbrakes uh they do have pedals but
09:45they're extremely expensive uh and they
09:47do have a small selection of Wheels
09:49which look for in terms of value for
09:51money I don't actually rate all that
09:53highly they're good wheels for what they
09:54are but really Sim simic cube is
09:56generally considered a more open
09:58ecosystem it isn't really any more open
10:00than any of these other products other
10:01than fitech but you know most people
10:04that are buying SIM Cube bases are
10:06buying them with the expectation that
10:07they're not going to be buying a semic
10:08cube wheel they're most likely going to
10:09be buying you know Cube controls Asher
10:11GSI you know one of those other brands
10:13and again we do have a massive library
10:15of dedicated wheel reviews which you can
10:16check out right here on the channel as
10:18well so to summarize that for you guys I
10:20would say sim magic are probably about
10:22on par with Mozza at this point in time
10:25in terms of their ecosystem maybe a
10:28little bit behind just in terms of the
10:31um the the value for money prospect
10:33there simply because although I rate Sim
10:36Magic's gear higher than mozas for the
10:39same kind of price point Mozza do have a
10:41larger selection of different
10:42peripherals at different price points so
10:43they do have some cheaper pedals
10:45available whereas Sim magic do seem to
10:46be focusing more on that kind of mid to
10:49high level uh part of the market now
10:51having said that because these are PC
10:53compatible products you can use whatever
10:55pedals and peripherals you want so you
10:56know it's only really a consideration if
10:58you want to stay within the one
11:00ecosystem but I do really like what SIM
11:02magic have done in terms of having a
11:04wide variety of um high quality Sim
11:06racing gear that you can plug in it all
11:07runs through the same software package
11:09and it's it's just easy it just works
11:11and uh yeah they've done a really good
11:13job there so that is ecosystem again
11:15check out our full breakdown of the Sim
11:17magic ecosystem and the experience there
11:18if you're wanting more information on
11:19that that gives you an idea of where
11:22this sits compared to other products
11:24what I want to do now is uh get into the
11:26force feedback and the driving
11:28experience with these bases so I want to
11:30start off by plugging this into a PC on
11:32the desk here and running you through
11:34some of the options that are available
11:35in terms of configuration with these
11:37wheelbases what kind of tuning options
11:38are available and how that relates back
11:41to the driving experience and then we'll
11:42close that off and get right into the
11:44driving experience and comparisons okay
11:46so let's take a quick look at the
11:47software now as it pertains to the
11:49wheelbase and Driving Experience
11:51specifically now again if you check out
11:53a previous ecosystem overview video we
11:55went through all the various different
11:56tabs and showed you what the wider
11:57software package looks like and how all
11:59operates just to give you a super super
12:01super quick rund down here you do have
12:03tabs across the bottom for all of their
12:04various peripherals so you would click
12:06on each one of those individually to
12:07load up the settings pertaining to that
12:09particular device we also have presets
12:11of various different games settings
12:13updates uh firmware flashing all that
12:15stuff all built into the one software
12:16package the idea is that you can do
12:17everything you need to do all through
12:19the one software package you don't have
12:20to have separate software like you do
12:22with fanalab for example in fanch or
12:24simic cube has separate software between
12:26their pedals and their wheelbases for
12:28example although I believe they will
12:29ultimately be bringing that together as
12:31it stands right now with Mozza acch vrs
12:35as of recently and Sim magic as you see
12:37here uh all integrated into one piece of
12:40software so let's quickly run through
12:41the settings available for fine-tuning
12:43the driving experience as it pertains to
12:45the wheelbase specifically you can see
12:47I've got the alpha U connected to the PC
12:49here I've done that simply so that we
12:51have the maximum torque or dynamic range
12:54scalable all the way up to 23 newm if
12:56you had the alpha connected this slider
12:58would max out at 15 new M and the mini
13:01it would be 10 everything else here in
13:02terms of adjustments is all exactly the
13:04same uh between all three models now
13:07just quickly as a point of reference
13:08here as well within the uh simic Cube 2
13:10ecosystem uh the pro and the sport have
13:13the same adjustments the ultimate
13:15actually has a couple of additional
13:16options uh which look honestly I've
13:18never really felt a significant
13:20difference between tweaking those
13:21settings anyway but just so you know
13:23there are a couple of extra tweaks that
13:24you can make on a c Cube 2 if you buy
13:27the ultimate but let's run through these
13:28now so so you've got your angle
13:29adjustment here one interesting thing is
13:32you'll see I've got a -7 here on my uh
13:34steering now I found when we were
13:36driving and this was the same across all
13:38these wheelbases and has been every
13:40single time we've tested Sim magic
13:42products um regardless of the PC that we
13:44have it installed on as well I've
13:45probably tested across five or six
13:47different PCS over the years I always
13:49find that uh it's a little bit awkward
13:51to calibrate the center you calibrate
13:53the center to the exact center and then
13:55when you jump into the game it's always
13:57a little bit offset to the right by 7 de
13:59so what I found is if I just tilt my
14:01steering 7° to the left or- 7° and
14:04calibrate that as Center then inside the
14:06game it seems to be correct so I'm not
14:08sure it's it's always been the case not
14:10sure why that is still the case let us
14:12know in the comments down below if
14:12you've had that experience too maybe
14:13it's something I'm doing wrong I don't
14:15know but it's as I said it's always been
14:17the case across everywhere that we've
14:18tested Sim magic bases so interesting
14:20but anyway let's move on here now all
14:22these other settings you'll notice we've
14:24got these little question marks and they
14:25do have very well written tool tips for
14:28pretty much all these now so you can pop
14:30up and see exactly what it is that
14:32you're adjusting and the impact that
14:34that has on your uh on your driving
14:36experience so this is pretty uniform
14:37across most brands these days gives you
14:39a nice little explanation of what each
14:41of these settings does but to give you
14:42the quick rund down here angle that is
14:43your sensitivity so in the case of these
14:46wheelbases it's adjustable between 90°
14:49not that you'd ever want to go that low
14:50lowest most people would ever go is
14:51about 360 for F1 style cars for example
14:54uh you can wind this all the way up to
14:572520 de for your truck Sim style driving
15:01we're going to jump that back to 900 for
15:02now uh we got angle presets here as well
15:05which you can manage uh speaking of
15:06presets actually that is one thing that
15:08they've just recently added to this Sim
15:10pro software is the ability to export
15:12and share your profiles which is
15:14something we see in most other
15:15ecosystems these days so great to see it
15:18here we've got our hard lock angle here
15:19as well so because direct drive
15:20wheelbases can mechanically spin
15:23infinitely you can place a hard lock so
15:25you feel a bump stop when you reach the
15:26end of your angle adjustment here so you
15:29can see at the moment it's set to 900 to
15:31match our angle if we increase that you
15:33can see the scope of adjustment here
15:35increases as well if we wind that up to
15:372520 you can see it goes up here too so
15:39say for example you wanted to have your
15:40sensitivity set to 2520 but you wanted
15:43to actually feel that mechanical bump
15:45stop at 900° you can do that I don't
15:48really know of any scenario where you
15:50would want to do that but you can if you
15:52want to uh we've got the strength of the
15:54hard limit as well so again because it's
15:56not a mechanical bump stop you can
15:57adjust between a soft normal or a firm
16:00feeling when you reach the end I
16:01generally will run normal or firm
16:03because that's how it feels in most real
16:05life cars you kind of hit that hard bump
16:06stop and the steering doesn't go any
16:08further so moving across now into our
16:10force feedback settings up the top line
16:12here we've got a adjustment for force
16:14feedback as well as maximum torque now
16:16the maximum torque adjustment you can
16:18think of as a dynamic range adjustment
16:21so what I would generally recommend
16:23doing here and this is the case for any
16:24wheelbase is setting this to the maximum
16:26amount of torque that you ever want to
16:28feel through the steering even in the
16:29event of like a massive crash or
16:31something like that so the wheels going
16:32absolutely crazy I generally limit this
16:35to around the sort of 15 newon meter
16:37Mark for most wheelbases because that's
16:38the most amount of torque that I ever
16:40want to have go through the wheel under
16:42any sort of scenario including crashes
16:44so what that's doing is it's actually
16:45limiting the dynamic range of the
16:47wheelbase to that 15 newm Mark and then
16:49over on the Le hand side here you can
16:51see we've got our force feedback
16:52adjustment this is the strength of the
16:54force feedback within that dynamic range
16:57so you can imagine if you've got it's
16:59set to say 23 newm you can use the full
17:01dynamic range of the motor so it's going
17:03to be able to produce any strength force
17:05feedback between Z and that 23 new M and
17:09then the force feedback adjustment here
17:11on the left hand side will reduce or
17:13scale the force feedback within that
17:15available dynamic range if that makes
17:17sense so generally they recommend you
17:19have this set somewhere between what did
17:21they say 70 and 100% I would generally
17:24recommend having this set to 100% And
17:27then reducing the force feedback in
17:28inside the game if you are finding that
17:30you're running into clipping now
17:31clipping is a bit of an interesting one
17:33we'll talk about this a little bit more
17:34when we get into the driving experience
17:36but basically the argument for having
17:38more dynamic range or a stronger
17:39wheelbase is uh generally the motors
17:41will have a little bit more
17:42responsiveness or a faster slew rate but
17:44also having that available dynamic range
17:46means that you can Spike up to those
17:48really strong force feedback events like
17:50crashes without running into clipping I
17:52would argue that for the majority of
17:54people what the force feedback feels
17:56like in the event of a massive crash
17:58isn't overly important as long as it's
18:00not clipping when you're running over
18:01Ripple strips or wrestling the car
18:02through corners like oruse for example
18:05um you know as long as you're not
18:05clipping in those scenarios it doesn't
18:07really matter but again let me know in
18:09the comments what you think of that
18:10what's your experience been like but
18:11that's my recommendation in terms of
18:13these two settings we then have an
18:14adjustment for smoothest this is
18:15basically just filtering the signal
18:17that's coming out of the game so in the
18:19uh in the example of say iRacing for
18:21example which runs a lower force
18:23feedback frequency of 60 HZ you may find
18:26that you want to run a little bit more
18:27smoothness here we then move down into
18:29our vehicle settings so wheel rotation
18:30speed this is basically how responsive
18:32the wheel feels overall so for things
18:35like drifting you probably find you want
18:36to go to higher values depending on the
18:38car you're driving and the diameter of
18:40your wheel you don't want to go so far
18:41that the wheel just completely snaps you
18:43want it to kind of match the rotation of
18:45the car so as the car swings out the
18:46wheel just kind of will naturally go to
18:48the position at want so you're going to
18:49need to fiddle around with that for most
18:51sort of GT style driving what do they
18:53have is their default setting so if we
18:54go to a setto corser for example and
18:56revert to defaults you can see they got
18:59their re rotation speed actually set
19:01quite low there then force feedback
19:03detail this enhances things like Road
19:04textures Ripple strips and whatnot so
19:06you can fiddle around with that I find
19:08that if I go too high on this the force
19:10feedback does start to feel a little bit
19:11robotic but we'll cover that when we get
19:12into Driving Experience in just a minute
19:14they actually mention here as well in
19:16their tool tip that a higher value may
19:18increase noise and heat while driving we
19:21then move over on to our mechanical
19:23adjustments there is a little tab here
19:24for other effects too so we've got an
19:26adjustment here for mechanical spring
19:27this is basically just an overarching
19:29Force which forces the wheel to return
19:31to Center generally more useful for Sims
19:34that don't support force feedback most
19:35games that have force feedback support
19:37these days include some sort of a
19:39centering Force anyway so you're
19:40generally going to find you're going to
19:41have that set to zero most of the time
19:43Center damper pretty self-explanatory
19:45you guys can see on the screen exactly
19:46what that does and then we've got an
19:48inertia spring damper and friction
19:49setting that actually modify the signals
19:51coming out of the game so these are like
19:53game filters you could say as opposed to
19:55driver and firmware level adjustments
19:56like what we see on the right hand
19:58inside here so we then have our maximum
20:01talk we already talked about that our
20:03mechanical damper setting so adjust the
20:05amount of damping applied to the wheel
20:07as it rotates uh this is a constant
20:09effect that adds smooth resistance to
20:11the wheel which can help dampen sharp
20:12force feedback effects and give the
20:14wheel a richer feel so it's kind of it's
20:17a bit of a balancing act here and again
20:18the value that you want to have here
20:20will depend on the Sim and the car that
20:21you're driving but it just gives that uh
20:24it gives that sensation along with
20:25friction and inertia of being
20:26mechanically connected to something
20:28inside the car rather than just being
20:29connected to an electric motor one of
20:31the things you'll notice with Sim magic
20:32Motors is they don't have a lot of uh
20:35rotating Mass so the motor shaft itself
20:37doesn't actually have a lot of natural
20:39inertia obviously you will add some
20:40inertia with the weight of the wheel
20:42connected to it but having the
20:43adjustment here allows you to create
20:45that uh create that sensation in the
20:47absence of having it in real life
20:48similarly friction does pretty much
20:50exactly what it says here adds a little
20:52bit of friction so the sensation of more
20:54weight behind the wheel inertia again
20:56pretty self-explanatory here gives the
20:58sensation of there being some weight
20:59that's sort of fighting against you as
21:01you stop rotating the wheel so as you
21:02rotate the wheel you feel the wheel kind
21:04of continuing to want to try and turn
21:06which simulates being connected to you
21:08know big heavy wheels and tires the
21:10contact patch on the road and whatnot so
21:13I actually tend to run these kinds of
21:14filters a little bit higher than a lot
21:16of other people do because I like to
21:18have a nice smooth and mechanically
21:20authentic feeling steering wheel but
21:22that does come at the loss of detail
21:23pretty much across the board with any
21:25direct drive wheel base so it's very
21:26much a subjective thing I do get
21:27criticized quite a bit for how high I
21:30tend to run these types of filters but
21:31this is actually what you're seeing on
21:32the screen now is just the default
21:34cooked in profile for accetto corser uh
21:37so that is inertia and then feedback
21:38frequency what does it say about this
21:40Sim magic zero latency force feedback
21:42upsampling algorithm converts low
21:44frequency force feedback signals into
21:45high quality signals so it's basically
21:47an interpolation filter or
21:48reconstruction filter as uh similar to
21:51what we find across most high-end Brands
21:54these days so that is a quick rundown on
21:56the settings that you get in terms of
21:58force feedback adjustment I would say
22:00pretty much on par in terms of useful
22:01stuff here to what you find from most
22:03Major Brands as I mentioned simic Cube
22:05does have a little bit more that you can
22:06tweak here whether or not that's really
22:08useful in the in the real world is kind
22:10of debatable I found across all three of
22:12these wheelbases I was able to dial this
22:14in within the limitations of the motor
22:16characteristics themselves to feel
22:17really quite authentic so no real
22:19complaints there and I like the fact
22:20that it's nice and approachable there
22:22aren't a whole bunch of settings here
22:24that you know you have no idea what it
22:25means if you're coming into this for the
22:27first time I don't think think that
22:28you're going to be overwhelmed you can
22:29kind of hover over each one of these and
22:32uh you know see what's going on there's
22:33plenty of Community Support as well in
22:34their Discord people are sharing their
22:36profiles now that you have the ability
22:37to import them and share as well that
22:38makes it a lot easier so you don't have
22:40to dial things in yourself copying
22:41screenshots and whatnot and they do have
22:43a lot of cooked in profiles here as well
22:45for all the major titles including
22:48things like BNG and I was impressed to
22:50see that they've already got a profile
22:51here for lemon ultimate both GTE and
22:54hybrid cars so obviously they're on top
22:56of these things which is really really
22:58good to see see but let's move on from
22:59the software now and get into we'll talk
23:02a little bit about the mechanical design
23:03of these compared to some of the
23:05competitors and then get into the
23:06Driving Experience so let's quickly have
23:08a little chat about the physical
23:10hardware and I mean I think there's
23:12already a lot of things that people
23:14straight away will recognize and like
23:15about all three of these products I love
23:17how clean and simple the design is
23:19particularly you know when we look at
23:20things like the Turtle Beach wheel base
23:22that we looked at just a couple of weeks
23:23ago we posted a picture of the internals
23:25of that and you could see that it had a
23:26motor that looked similar to this all be
23:28at a lot smaller um internally and a lot
23:30of people commented why don't they just
23:31make it look like that and not have all
23:33this plastic shell around it even
23:35compared to say the Moz R16 and 21 as
23:38well I really like this nice clean
23:39design I love the fact that these motors
23:41have nice um threads in the front here
23:44and this of course just allows them to
23:45bolt into any semic Cube style front
23:47mount which is really really nice and
23:49clean so nice and simple in that way
23:51there's nothing at all here that doesn't
23:52need to be here in terms of inputs and
23:54outputs as well I like the fact that
23:55they've put them on the sides so you've
23:57got your DC jack input here your USB
23:59connection on the side and then if we
24:00flip one of the bases around you can see
24:02on the opposing side we've got a canas
24:04USB port which we haven't I believe seen
24:06any use for just yet but at some point
24:09in the future I assume there'll be some
24:10sort of peripherals that they'll release
24:11that will make use of that and all three
24:13models do also have a RJ Jack here for
24:16their emergency stop button which is a
24:17nice touch a lot of other wheelbases the
24:19more entry level models within their
24:21ecosystem emit that so great that they
24:23include that I do personally believe and
24:25you guys have heard me say it on
24:26numerous videos now an e stop is
24:28important thing on any direct drive
24:29wheelbase because if a small child gets
24:31caught up or something like that or you
24:32get a tie or a piece of clothing mixed
24:34up in the wheel or even a USB cable it
24:36can cause unnecessary damage whereas if
24:38you have an EOP button you can just hit
24:39it quickly and then we've got the quick
24:41release system which again we've covered
24:42extensively in that previous ecosystem
24:43overview but just to give you the quick
24:45rundown on this I think it's one of the
24:46best if not the best OEM quick releases
24:49available within Sim racing fench have
24:51caught up now with their qr2 the AC Tech
24:54quick release is quite nice as well of
24:56course Mozza used the same stock quick
24:57release as this is well so it's an NRG
24:59style quick release allows you to use
25:00any NRG style adapter for any third
25:03party wheel that you want and it just
25:04has these additional pins inside which
25:06transmit power across and the wheel
25:08connects to the wheelbase via a
25:09proprietary Bluetooth protocol now with
25:11the very early wheelbases from SIM magic
25:13like the M10 years ago we did have a
25:15couple of communication issues happy to
25:17report I haven't had any issues at all
25:18across any of these three wheelbases
25:20with any of the Sim magic wheels that
25:22they sent us to check uh at all so plug
25:24it in everything has just worked
25:25Straight Out of the Box no issues there
25:27whatsoever over to speak of we did have
25:29a couple of disconnection issues I can't
25:30remember if that happened prior to the
25:32previous video I may have mentioned it
25:34in that ecosystem overview video if not
25:36it must have been something that
25:36occurred slightly after but uh that said
25:39with the more recent firmware revisions
25:41and software revisions that hasn't been
25:43an issue at all so nice to see the
25:45improvements there too and yeah
25:46absolutely no discernable Flex or slop
25:48or anything like that no free play in
25:51any of the quick release combinations
25:52that we've tested obviously there's
25:53always a little bit of mechanical
25:55tolerance in the Machining but with
25:56these ball bearings that pop into place
25:58here to hold everything in place haven't
26:00had any issues whatsoever to speak of so
26:02absolutely no complaints there
26:03whatsoever I think they've done a really
26:05really good job and probably I think
26:06they're punching above their weight in
26:07terms of price point in terms of the
26:09overall build quality and the
26:11presentation of all these products and
26:12that goes for their wheels and their
26:14other peripherals as well I really do
26:15feel like you know that the the quality
26:17that you're getting for your money and
26:19just the way it looks and feels in your
26:20hands it really does look and feel like
26:22a premium product in my opinion every
26:24bit as good at least at face value as
26:27likes of simic cube so yeah absolutely
26:29no complaints whatsoever in terms of the
26:31hardware I think they've done a really
26:32really good job let's move on now into
26:35the Driving Experience now I want to
26:36split this into talking about the
26:38comparison between these three
26:39wheelbases specifically and then we'll
26:41unpack that a little bit further and
26:43talk about comparisons with some
26:44competitive products as well so starting
26:46out with these three guys now I've um
26:49I've seen questioned quite a bit and
26:50questioned myself uh exactly how these
26:53fall into the market in terms of both
26:55their overall strength and the slew of
26:58these motors or the responsiveness of
27:00these motors too now I actually went to
27:02Tyler who is one of the owners I believe
27:05at Sim magic and asked him directly
27:07about both of those questions now his
27:09response with regards to holding talk
27:11and I'll read this out verbatim for you
27:13guys to see you have exactly what he
27:14said he said hey Will for us holding
27:16talk and Peak talk are industrial
27:18Concepts we are a motor custom built for
27:21Sim racing so we cannot explain using
27:23industrial Concepts fair enough uh we
27:25refer to it as maximum talk and you'll
27:27see that in specs on their website if
27:29you go onto any of these motors and
27:30these principles apply to simic Cube and
27:32acch as well so what he means by that is
27:35that every manufacturer is going to have
27:37their own way of measuring Peak torque
27:38or holding torque and you know if you
27:40look at fitech recent marketing with
27:42their new csdd and DD plus bases you'll
27:44see they included a graph which showed
27:46the amount of time that it could hold
27:48that maximum amount of talk and how it
27:49rolled off over time look realistically
27:52under real life driving scenarios you're
27:54unlikely to ever actually reproduce a uh
27:57a scenario like that anyway you're never
27:59going to be holding full torque in a
28:01corner for more than a couple of seconds
28:02even with oval racing so other than just
28:04like driving around in circles on a skid
28:06pan for example I can't really think of
28:08another scenario where that would really
28:10come into play so what he's saying there
28:11does make sense I know some people will
28:13hear that and think that they're trying
28:14to hide something I mean maybe they are
28:17I don't know but so what I can tell you
28:19is that all three of these bases I feel
28:21like in terms of peak strength do
28:23actually punch above their weight I
28:25would say that the alpha mini which they
28:26quote as 10 new M feels more similar to
28:28the 12 new M that you get with the uh
28:31with the csdd for example the alpha at
28:34its 15 new M feels quite similar to the
28:36semic cube 2 Sport and the DD Plus in
28:39terms of overall strength and then the
28:42alpha U that kind of sits out on its own
28:44a little bit there's not really much
28:45else that sits around this kind of
28:47strength maybe the vrs direct Force Pro
28:48but look the reality with the alpha U is
28:51that it's far more strength than I think
28:52anybody's ever going to need and uh so
28:55it kind of becomes a bit of a Mot Point
28:56once you get up into those those ranges
28:59above about that 15 newm Mark at least
29:01in my opinion so that's what they have
29:03to say about Peak or holding torque or
29:05strength and then with regards to slew
29:08rate my question to him was uh I'll read
29:10it to you exactly I said other question
29:12I had is do you have the slew rates
29:13available for all three models please
29:15and his response was as for slw rate we
29:18haven't overly focused on this and
29:20you'll notice in their literature they
29:21never actually State a slew rate at all
29:24our focus is on balancing slew rate and
29:26inertia just as lighter Wheels can
29:28achieve more direct force feedback and
29:29we were actually talking about that just
29:30before with regards to the uh the
29:32rotating mass of the motor shafts on
29:34these guys so uh then he goes on to say
29:36in terms of the motor itself inertia
29:38refers to the weight of the motor rotor
29:41uh if you were to manually rotate the
29:42motor you would noticeably feel that our
29:44rotor is lighter which again is what we
29:46were just talking about so uh yeah I I
29:48think that that's a okay answer it's not
29:49really giving me the numbers that I was
29:50looking for but I think it's a fair
29:52enough point so the reason why I was
29:53asking about those slew rates
29:55specifically was because look honestly I
29:57can't Fe feel a difference in
29:59responsiveness between any of these
30:01three designs which actually really
30:03surprised me I expected that I might
30:05find that the overall Driving Experience
30:07and the sharpness that I felt with the
30:09uh with the alpha U may be a massive
30:11Step Above what it was with the Alpha
30:14and the minis especially so look the
30:16reality was um and I think you probably
30:18can already tell where I'm going with
30:19this if 10 new M of strength is enough
30:21for you then the mini is absolutely fine
30:23if you feel like you need more than that
30:26go with the alpha honestly I can't see
30:28many scenarios where somebody would need
30:29to go as far as having the alpha U as I
30:32was explaining before it does have the
30:34uh it does have the advantage of giving
30:36you more dynamic range look I don't
30:38really feel like under any normal
30:39driving scenarios you need more than 15
30:41newm of torque it's only really going to
30:43be uh you know under crash scenarios
30:45where you would experience higher levels
30:46than that and you know I come back to
30:48what I was saying earlier about not
30:50wanting to be in a situation where the
30:52car is driving you rather than you
30:53driving the car we can crank the force
30:55feedback right up and uh we might
30:57actually include a little clip of me
30:58driving around at at Absolute 100% force
31:01feedback on the alpha U here for you
31:02guys so you can see how much I'm
31:04struggling to just get the car around
31:05the track now obviously somebody that's
31:07a lot stronger than me wouldn't be
31:08struggling as much as me but the the
31:10point is that again you want to be
31:12driving the car rather than the car
31:13driving you and I feel like majority of
31:15people that level is going to fall
31:16somewhere between about 10 and 14 15
31:19newton M so I would say if you've got a
31:22similar build to me or smaller then I
31:24would say you're probably not going to
31:25notice any significant benefit from
31:27spending the extra money on the alpha U
31:29and you should probably go with the uh
31:30with the alpha if you're a Drifter that
31:33doesn't need strong force feedback or
31:34you just don't think you're going to
31:35need that additional strength then the
31:37mini is absolutely fine in reality for
31:39me when I was driving with the mini
31:41having just driven with the U and the
31:43alpha I did find that it was a little
31:45bit on the weak side for me I was
31:47finding that I was running into clipping
31:48a little bit and I was having to turn
31:49the force feedback down a little bit
31:51further than I otherwise would but that
31:53is coming from somebody that's used to
31:54running a semic cube to Ultimate on my
31:56rig every day so I have the luxury of
31:59being able to produce those higher force
32:00feedback levels if I want them the
32:02reality is if this was the first direct
32:04drive wheelbase that I'd ever owned I
32:06would probably be absolutely okay with
32:07it and not feel any need to upgrade the
32:09mini is more likely to be something that
32:11you may want to upgrade from in the
32:12future as I think if you were to buy an
32:14alpha it's probably going to be your
32:16life wheelbase I think I think you're
32:17probably never going to feel compelled
32:18to upgrade this unless something with
32:20new technology comes out that improves
32:22other aspects of the driving experience
32:24and with regards to the U I just don't
32:27really see any justification for it over
32:29this guy unless you just got a huge
32:30amount of upper body strength yeah I
32:32just don't think that it's necessary so
32:34that is the rundown on the three of
32:35those my pick would be the alpha for
32:37future proofness but if your budget only
32:39extends as far as the mini I think
32:41you'll be absolutely fine with that as
32:42well how does the Driving Experience
32:44compare against competitors now look I
32:48uh spent I spent the better part of a
32:50week driving across all three of these
32:51models and then cross comparing against
32:53other wheelbases with their latest
32:55firmware and drivers including the new
32:57360 Hertz update for the simic cube 2
33:01bases in iRacing so I did test that
33:03extensively as well look testing all of
33:05the stuff back to back I think that
33:07these fall pretty cleanly into their
33:10price point within the market so what I
33:12mean by that is that I think that the
33:14quality of the force feedback is maybe a
33:16little bit more refined although we are
33:18talking about very fine margins here
33:20with the acch bases a little bit more
33:22granular detail there a little bit
33:24smoother overall I found that effects
33:27with all three of these bases and
33:28remembering again that they do feel
33:29similar give will take the uh the peak
33:31strength that's available on all three
33:33the Driving Experience here just felt a
33:35tiny little bit more robotic across the
33:38board and that was regardless of how I
33:39tweaked the settings as well now I'm not
33:40saying that the force feedback feels
33:42robotic overall I don't think anybody's
33:44going to have a problem with it it is
33:45very smooth and refined overall but when
33:47you when you're talking about those fine
33:48margins and the differences between
33:50different brands I would say that uh in
33:53my experience at least you know testing
33:55across all the various different Sims
33:56and testing across all the models
33:58atte did tend to feel just that little
34:00bit more refined a little bit smoother
34:03and a little bit more authentic but it
34:05is only a very very small amount whether
34:06or not it's worth the extra money to you
34:08all other things considered around
34:10ecosystem everything that we discussed
34:11in this video uh is really going to be
34:13up to you let's uh let's go back the
34:15other way and compare to Mozza as well
34:17look I find that Mozza wheelbases have
34:20fallen a little bit behind in terms of
34:22force feedback recently You' heard me
34:23talk about this a few times recently
34:25they've released quite a few software
34:26updates recently to try and fix various
34:28aspects and I've always found that
34:30there's a little bit more filtering
34:31required within Mozza wheelbases to get
34:34that authentic and smooth feeling out of
34:36it and in doing that to create that
34:38overall smoothness that's kind of
34:40inherent in most of the other ecosystems
34:42you do end up filtering out a lot of the
34:44granular detail that um is present on
34:46other wheelbases so there's a little bit
34:48more of a sacrifice or compromise uh to
34:51achieve smoothness in terms of granular
34:53detail with the Mozza bases now I don't
34:55think that it's a limitation of the
34:57hardware I think it's just that their
34:58software and their firmware is maybe a
35:00little bit behind where their
35:01competitors are at this point so like I
35:03think if you were buying into the Mozza
35:04ecosystem ultimately it'll likely get
35:07there but at this point in time I would
35:09say that these products do provide a
35:11better driving experience than their
35:12Mozza counterparts when you consider the
35:15physical design of these the quality of
35:16their other peripherals as well I do
35:18much prefer their p1000 pedals which
35:20we'll be looking at in a separate video
35:22very soon uh I do much prefer those to
35:24their CRP pedals or any of the other
35:26pedals that they offer in their
35:27ecosystem do have some cheaper options
35:29as we discussed earlier but look I'm
35:32just not a big fan of any of the Mozza
35:33pedals that are currently available I
35:34think that Sim magic have done a much
35:36better job there their shifters and
35:37their handbrakes and other peripherals
35:38are a little bit better as well although
35:40they are a bit more expensive so you got
35:41to factor that in to the equation as
35:43well but without rambling on here if I
35:44was choosing between Mozza and Sim magic
35:46right now I would definitely absolutely
35:48100% unequivocally choose Sim magic so
35:51how do they compare with the fitech csdd
35:53and DD plus now look it it is difficult
35:56to really make a comparison here at this
35:58point in time you probably already
35:59figured out what I'm going to say here
36:00we don't have full force working on
36:02those fitech bases at this point in time
36:04so really can't say what they're
36:06potentially capable of but what I would
36:08say is that at this point in time I do
36:10feel like both the csdd and the DD Plus
36:13have a little bit more refined similar
36:15to what we were talking about with
36:15acitech a little bit more refined detail
36:18there not necessarily any smoother than
36:21these are but very very very fine
36:23margins it would be very I think in a
36:24blind test it would be very very hard to
36:27pick between to at this point in time
36:28but we'll come back we'll Circle back to
36:30that and we'll talk about that a little
36:31bit more once we've got full force
36:32working at a couple games and we can
36:34compare them properly so that is the
36:36situation with fitech at this point in
36:37time at least compared to the uh the
36:39csdd and the DD plus also just of course
36:42consider there the native console
36:44compatibility you get with fitech and
36:46their wider ecosystem they do have a
36:47much larger selection of rims available
36:49and whatnot although as I mentioned
36:51earlier their other peripherals maybe
36:52aren't of the same quality level that
36:54Sim magic is at this point in time so
36:56we'll see what fitech does in the future
36:57I'm sure that they must be coming out
36:59with a new handbrake and a new shifter
37:01maybe even some new pedals pretty soon I
37:03don't have any inside information there
37:04don't read too much into that but I
37:06would be amazed if they didn't announce
37:07something hopefully sometime this year
37:10they're well well well overdue for both
37:11of those things so finally let's do a
37:14quick comparison with uh with simic Cube
37:16here as well now remembering that simic
37:17cube is significantly more expensive
37:20across all three levels remember also
37:22that uh the mini kind of sits outside
37:25their ecosystem it is quite a lot lower
37:27in terms of uh its strength so the the
37:30sport is more of a comparison to the
37:32alpha the uh the U is kind of somewhere
37:35in between the pro and the ultimate and
37:38then the ultimate kind of sits even
37:39higher again so what I would say there
37:42is that overall the the experience with
37:45the semic cuu bases is that little bit
37:47more refined similar to what we were
37:49talking about with the acch bases before
37:51very very smooth forc feedback similar
37:53kind of smoothness overall in terms of
37:56feeling the weight of the car the the
37:58the communication of the suspension and
38:00the contact patch of the road semic Cube
38:02and more recently a have always been my
38:04Benchmark in terms of feeling those
38:06aspects that are fundamentally important
38:08to feeling connected to the car and
38:10being able to drive quickly and
38:11consistently and I would say that that
38:13is almost at the same level with these
38:15Sim magic bases a negligible difference
38:18and I would say you know better value
38:19for money in the Sim magic ecosystem
38:21with regards to that where I think that
38:24acch and simic Cube 2 a little bit
38:28higher is just in that really granular
38:29detail things like Textures in the road
38:31Ripple strips grass surfaces and whatnot
38:34just have that little bit more detail on
38:37uh on the semic cube 2 bases than they
38:39do here and trying to dial that in
38:41across these three bases does result in
38:43a little bit more grainy feel a little
38:46bit more robotic feel uh and just not
38:48quite as refined as what you get on
38:50those simiq bases and I don't know
38:52whether it's just simply down to the
38:54motors that they're using here
38:56remembering again the price point is a
38:57lot lower maybe there are some
38:58sacrifices there I tend to lean towards
39:01it being more a a firmware based thing
39:04though which is good news because it
39:06means that ultimately hopefully they
39:07would be able to you know bring these up
39:08to the level of the simic cube bases but
39:11I just don't know that's that's a guess
39:12but I feel like overall the semic cubes
39:15are a slightly more refined product
39:17again we are talking very very fine
39:19tolerances here and you are of course
39:20paying a lot more for that privilege
39:23whether or not it's going to be worth it
39:24to you is going to be a very subjective
39:26thing for me having a experienced all
39:27these wheelbases I can honestly tell you
39:29that you know having having experienced
39:31something like a simic cube 2 Pro and
39:33ultimate you know having felt that
39:35detail that you know that real
39:37authenticity that you get through those
39:38bases and the AC Tech invictor as well
39:41it would be hard for me to go back to
39:43something like this having experienced
39:45that and I would probably you know in
39:46the back of my mind I'd always be
39:48thinking oh if only if only if only but
39:51you know you are spending a lot more
39:53money for that for that tiny little we
39:55we're talking the last few percent here
39:57so I think really where I where it what
40:00it comes down to for me is you know if
40:01you're stepping up from something like
40:03you know a Logitech g923 or a CSL DD you
40:06know a much more entry level based than
40:08what we're talking about here you're
40:09going to be absolutely Blown Away by the
40:11experience with any of these guys you're
40:12going to be absolutely happy with it and
40:13you're probably you know not going to
40:15feel compelled as I was saying before I
40:16think that you know the alpha would
40:18probably be a forever base for a lot of
40:20people if money just isn't an object for
40:21you then I would be lying if I didn't
40:23say that there is that little bit more
40:25to be had in some of those more
40:26expensive bases but it is a really
40:28really fine margin that we're talking
40:29about here and look at the end of the
40:31day I think they've done a really good
40:32job with all three of these products I
40:33think that they absolutely nail what
40:35they need to at the price point I'm
40:37hopeful that they will be able to refine
40:38that forc feedback a little bit further
40:40into the future but you know just
40:41looking at how far they've come since we
40:43originally reviewed the M10 many years
40:45ago now and even just in the last 6
40:46months that we've been getting back in
40:48and testing these products again they
40:50they' fixed a lot of the bugs that we
40:51experienced previously and they clearly
40:53care a lot about the community and uh
40:55you know are really passionate about
40:56what they doing which is really great to
40:58see so yeah where I sit on this one is I
41:00think that these are all fantastic value
41:01for money I think you're absolutely
41:03getting what you pay for and then some
41:05and uh yeah absolutely no reason not to
41:07recommend any of these products to uh to
41:09anybody that's looking at buying into an
41:11ecosystem for the first time so we will
41:13of course be unpacking this even further
41:14once we have full force working on those
41:17csdd and DD plus bases we also do as I
41:19mentioned earlier have the semic cube 2
41:21Sport Pro and the ultimate base that
41:23I've had on my rig for quite some time
41:24now so we are going to be revisiting
41:26those again in the next couple of months
41:28and talking about the experience of
41:29those in more detail how they compare
41:31across to others as well so yeah guys I
41:34really hope that today's video has
41:35helped out if it has please do leave a
41:36thumbs up make sure you subscribe to the
41:37channel so you don't miss out on those
41:38future videos make sure you do check out
41:40those detailed reviews of some of the
41:41other products that we've referenced in
41:43today's video as well that will give you
41:44the best overall picture of what's going
41:46to suit your needs and budget best and
41:48remember again as well we do have some
41:49discount codes as well as affiliate
41:50links down in the description box below
41:52so if you do decide you want to pick up
41:53any of the gear that we've talked about
41:55in today's video whether it's Sim magic
41:56Sim Cube or any of the other brands that
41:58is an awesome way of helping support our
42:00work at no additional cost and we really
42:01do appreciate your support there but
42:02above all thank you very much for
42:04watching guys and I will see you again
42:06in the next one bye
