00:00hello this is dredd from
00:03epic builds and in today's video topic
00:06we're going to go over what i believe to
00:08be great information for anyone wanting
00:12to make their own builds in last epoch
00:17it will ask and answer the coveted
00:19question how much damage do i really
00:23need for last epoch content and how to
00:28well let's find out shall we
00:32in last epoch we do not have the luxury
00:35of having a path of building like path
00:38of exile nor do we have d3 planner like
00:41for diablo 3 this means that it is very
00:44hard to plan out a build because we have
00:47no idea how much damage skills do when
00:50fully invested when i change this
00:53passive or that skill point i have no
00:56idea what it actually does unless if i
00:59of course go to the dummy every single
01:02this leads to a lot of experimentation
01:04which ultimately leads in failure 9 out
01:08of 10 times at least for me
01:10that is where i get that phrase i
01:12constantly use when people ask me how
01:15many builds i go through at a time
01:17before making a video the phrase being
01:209 out of 10 builds don't work it is
01:24it's a lot of experimentation and i have
01:27no numbers like you do in path of exile
01:30if you end up finding the video helpful
01:33don't forget to subscribe to the channel
01:34and like the video as that is not only
01:37the best way to support my efforts here
01:39at epic builds it's also the best way to
01:41tell youtube that this video is
01:43informative and show it to others who
01:46would need this information as well
01:49so ultimately i wanted to figure out why
01:52some builds work and some don't and one
01:55of the largest factors in this problem
01:57is how much base health monsters have in
01:59the monolith of fate if you can't figure
02:01out how much damage you need then you
02:03can't plan around it if you have too
02:05much damage and not enough defenses
02:07you'll just die all the time if you
02:09don't have enough damage and too much
02:11defenses you will spend four minutes on
02:14the t4 temporal dungeon boss struggling
02:17and angry at the game quitting out of
02:19frustration or ultimately giving it to
02:22cheating which i see a lot on youtube of
02:26many people don't realize that this is
02:28an important factor for build design
02:31including the wild card of enemy
02:33toughness as to deal more damage with
02:35the build you need to reserve space
02:38last epoch much like a lot of different
02:40arpgs in the genre is a game of
02:44opportunity costs a gear slot for salt
02:49or maybe wingard's instead
02:51do i run bastion of honor to be tankier
02:54or do i run spellcrit catalyst so i can
02:57relieve prefixes elsewhere from crit
03:00if you don't properly weigh decisions
03:03then your build ultimately ends up
03:06suffering significantly in the end
03:10so the question remains how tough are
03:13how much damage do i need to kill a
03:15white beetle and how much do i need to
03:17kill a more health less damage taken
03:21this isn't easy obviously as modifiers
03:24are ever changing into monolith but
03:26there is some method in the madness
03:30base stats are stagnant and are only
03:32affected by one stat
03:37so in last epoch the normal standard for
03:40a build to feel good and function at
03:42least in my opinion in the opinion of
03:44the larger community or my community
03:47it is able to do 300 corruption fast and
03:50smooth that's about the
03:53the turning point of when you get a lot
03:55of loot and it's not too hard to push
03:58through and you don't spend 60 hours
04:01trying to kill one boss
04:04if you're dying constantly
04:06you lose stability which leads to less
04:08boss uniques less chances at good
04:11blessings or less dungeon keys if you
04:14don't have enough damage you lose time
04:16because you spent two minutes killing
04:18that profane flesh or you spend five
04:21minutes killing a 300 corruption orbis
04:24time is another factor into all of this
04:27if you're doing things faster and
04:29killing things faster
04:31that's less time you spend in monoliths
04:34and more loot you gain
04:36this is how poe works and it's how last
04:39epoch works to the same extent even with
04:42its attempts to change this
04:44doing more monolith echoes is always
04:46better than going slower
04:50so with that standard in mind how much
04:52damage do you need to kill trash and 300
04:54corruption monoliths surprisingly not
04:58through a lot of extensive research and
05:00hundreds of builds later i have more of
05:03an idea and a grasp of concept on how
05:07much damage you actually need to feel
05:10amarathi as well help me with this as he
05:13plays just as much as i do so we can
05:16pull our results together and figure
05:20i recently played a hungering souls
05:22ignite lich you've probably seen some
05:25gameplay of it in this video
05:28this build has an insane amount of
05:30single target damage for an ignite build
05:33close to 1 million ticks on the dummy
05:35this leads to anything being touched by
05:39but the problem is you are utilizing a
05:41singular skull hungering consoles
05:44which is absolutely terrible for clear
05:47speed you can do an infinite amount of
05:49damage but if you kill one mob per cast
05:52it still takes 20 casts to kill a spider
05:54pack versus a pack of 20 maruno ogres so
05:58how do we solve this
06:00infernal shade has been the butt of many
06:03jokes and the bottom of most people's
06:05skill tier lists for a long time until
06:08this recent discovery
06:10infernal shade does very little damage
06:13in the same build where i'm dealing
06:15millions of damage with hungering souls
06:17i deal 24k ticks on the dummy with
06:21but infernal shade is infinitely better
06:25to understand why this is the case we
06:27need to look at how mobs in the monolith
06:29differ from the dummy
06:31the dummy in last epoch has no
06:34resistances or dr which means when we
06:37see our raw dbs on it
06:39it is much closer represented by our dps
06:42tooltip number and it is an easy metric
06:45to measure between people because the
06:47dummy doesn't change at all ever
06:49and monoliths mobs take a lot less
06:52damage due to how op leech was they had
06:54to scale back how much damage they
06:56actually took and to balance that factor
07:00and it makes them take a lot less damage
07:03so quick tldr of all these complex
07:06formulas what i've found is monsters and
07:09empowered monoliths at a base take about
07:12a tenth of the damage that the dummy
07:15so if i dealt 10k hits on the dummy i
07:18would deal 1k hit to a mob in the
07:20monolith and this is the same if we deal
07:25beetle this isn't always true
07:27specifically with orbus he seems to have
07:31and it's always changing due to
07:33modifiers but this is what i believe to
07:36be a pretty decent way of transferring
07:38your dummy dps to your real dps in game
07:40and is scalable so it's actually pretty
07:44easy to just think of okay my dummy dps
07:48of like it's going to be a tenth in game
07:51that's what i found and it seems to work
07:55so if we deal 24k ticks with infernal
07:58shade that means we are dealing like
08:00maybe 2.4 k ticks in the monolith of
08:04infernal shade takes three times per
08:06second a stat we know thanks to le
08:08planner and in-game testing so we deal
08:11like maybe 70k per second which is like
08:147 7k per second in monoliths from what
08:18amarathi and i have seen to gather
08:21is mobs in the monolith if they are of
08:23the trash variety like skeletons marsh
08:27beetles worms stuff that comes in very
08:30large numbers they have maybe two to
08:36so infernal shade instantly one shots
08:39them with one tick this is great because
08:42infernal shade just jumps between mobs
08:44so i place one infernal shade down and
08:46instantly kills a pack even though it
08:48deals two percent of the damage that my
08:50hungering souls is doing
08:52now infernal shade is absolute garbage
08:55on big enemies like baruna ogres and
08:59where hungering souls comes in
09:02hungering souls single skull like ignite
09:05hungering souls is normally terrible at
09:07clearing monoliths because it has one
09:10skull and it's due to its single target
09:12nature of no pierce or anything like
09:15and there are plenty of skills that are
09:17like this like marrow shards smite and
09:20many others but if we clear the trash
09:23that would normally steal all of our
09:26skull hits instead of dealing damage to
09:28what matters like the maroon ogres and
09:31the imperial watchers and stuff that
09:33infinitely makes the build feel better
09:36when all the trash is gone and we can
09:38focus on single target which is why
09:40infernal shade is so strong for this
09:43build specifically that you see in the
09:46i'll be honest i have no idea how much
09:49base health a lot of these bigger mobs
09:52but i do know what builds handle them
09:56for reference the puncture build i have
09:58been playing has like 140k
10:01to 200k dps and the dummy
10:05which is about the perfect amount you
10:07want to aim for to kill rares and big
10:09targets quick enough as i can show in
10:12the gameplay and i feel in game
10:15anything more than this of course is
10:17great but this seems to be the barrier
10:19for entry to delete rares in a quick
10:22enough time frame so with this knowledge
10:24we can average an estimate most big
10:27enemies have close to 10k hp to like 50
10:32and if we try this in monoliths and try
10:34an infernal shade on something like a
10:36maruna ogre it takes a long time to kill
10:40so 2k damage per tick three ticks per
10:43second equaling to 6k per second would
10:46take maybe like 10 seconds and i can
10:48safely say that this is very close to
10:50what i experience in game from my time
10:52at last epoch with this build and other
10:55people who play a lot like amaranth can
10:57confirm this as well so if 10 seconds is
11:02what is a great amount of time to kill
11:05usually two to four seconds i find
11:07because it's about like when they can
11:09start dealing damage to you
11:11so 50 divided by 4 equals 12 k ish raw
11:15dps which is like 120k on the dummy
11:19which reaffirms our findings actually
11:23don't take this video at face value of
11:25course this is all based on objective
11:28experience with the feeling of this more
11:30looked at than the science of the
11:32numbers behind the scenes as we have
11:35little access to these things other than
11:38data mined things on like tongue labs
11:41but we don't have any way of quantifying
11:46so after all of this we can start to
11:48piece together some standards
11:51to make a build comfortable to play in
11:54300 corruption are set standard we want
11:57like 60k dps per second for your aoe
12:00slash trash clearing abilities whether
12:03that be through multiple ticks per
12:07and 120k to 200k dps per second for
12:11nuking rares in appropriate amounts of
12:16way less than i have originally thought
12:19and has opened my eyes in build design
12:22as this makes infernal shade go from a
12:25garbage skill like i thought to an
12:27actually great one like you can see in
12:30and that's a hard pill to swallow
12:33to be fair this is after the op
12:35legendary update which introduced a lot
12:37of power creep into the game so it very
12:40well might be just let's
12:42you know breaking the game again but
12:4524k takes with infernal shade with like
12:48death seal up and everything else up
12:51yeah that's not very powerful i'm gonna
12:53be on does this mean your build should
12:55fit these or it's trash
12:58no no just just kidding these are just
13:02you should just aim for these
13:04don't use it as a metric
13:07if you want to do billions of damage
13:10but if you want to figure out what you
13:12need at the bare minimum to feel good
13:15then this is a good metric to go by this
13:18means if your clear ability does well
13:22and you already have a single target
13:23skill that's dedicated towards doing
13:26it means you can shave off some damage
13:28from your clear skill for some quality
13:32and not feel bad about it you were
13:34probably super overkilling things
13:37anyways like in reference to like a
13:41this also means one skill wonders
13:44like builds that only use one skill for
13:46clear and single target like a racing
13:49strike should aim to just have as much
13:52damage as possible because your clear
13:54and your single target are the same
13:58but you can also leave some of your
14:00single target damage behind buffs you
14:03apply instead of having them up all the
14:06time like for a racing strike you don't
14:10full 12 time rot stack combo
14:13to deal damage to trash which is way
14:16overkill but you can still have it in
14:19case you need to kill a t4 dungeon boss
14:22which is a large amount of quality of
14:23life you can design into your builds we
14:26can also more appropriately use weapon
14:28swaps now which i will be showcasing at
14:32tldr of everything in this video 20 to
14:3660k dps is good enough for your clear
14:38skill like multi-shot infernal shade
14:40spirit plague warpath anything with like
14:43aoe 120 to 200k dps seems to be good
14:47enough for single target skills like
14:51smite or uh specifically like
14:55maybe yeah like uh what is it called
14:59pretty much stuff like that things that
15:00like you cast once and you hit once
15:03but you'll need closer to like 400k to 1
15:06million dps to make t4 dungeon bosses
15:09feel good so keep that in mind as well
15:12as you want to eventually be able to do
15:16it's way better to overkill your single
15:18target and have your clear damage just
15:20be barely enough like you see with the
15:22ignite hungering souls and infernal
15:24shame then to have your single target be
15:26barely enough and you're clear to be
15:28supreme overkill like punctured
15:31this has been dread from epic builds
15:34make sure to share this with your
15:35friends so they can start mid-maxing
15:38and have a wonderful day wherever you're
