00:00Welcome to Creator Office
Hours by TubeBuddy,
00:02where I answer your questions
00:03about how to make it as a creator
00:04as someone who has worked
at YouTube and Instagram
00:06for the past eight years.
00:07So let's dive into the first question
00:09and I'll keep these as
concise as possible,
00:11so you get as much value as possible.
00:13All right, first question,
00:14what's the best way to
launch a YouTube channel,
00:16especially with no external traffic?
00:18Make sure you follow the five video rule,
00:21which is a rule that I
actually talked about
00:23in my interview with MatPat,
00:24who has started multiple YouTube channels
00:26with millions of subscribers each.
00:28- So when you're starting a channel,
00:30the biggest mistake everyone makes
00:31is they launch the
channel with nothing on it
00:36Come on, come on, guys.
00:37Think about it this way, right,
00:40And so if you're telling people,
00:43"Go watch this thing,"
00:45and there's nothing for them to watch,
00:46or there's nothing for them to latch onto,
00:48you're telling YouTube,
00:50this is a channel that isn't
gonna retain people very long,
00:52and so when we launch a channel,
00:53we launch it with five videos.
00:55So that way, people go on a
significant watch time journey
00:58in that first week period,
01:00so that way, it tells YouTube,
01:01wow, this is a great channel
01:03that's gonna get people to watch
01:04and they're gonna be really engaged.
01:05And it shows your audience that
you're committed to it, too.
01:08- So don't launch with one
video like most YouTubers do,
01:10instead, launch with five videos,
01:12I'd say make sure those five videos
01:14are slightly different styles and formats
01:16while still keeping it
related to your niche
01:18so you can experiment
with what resonates most
01:20and double down on that
for your next five videos
01:25how do I make videos consistently
01:26if I have a job and family?
01:28All right, this is something
I thought about a lot
01:29while I was making
content during my off time
01:31while working on Instagram and YouTube.
01:33And the biggest advice I could give
01:34is batch production scheduled release.
01:37If you're working a job,
01:38if you're gonna spend time with family,
01:40you wanna make sure you're
not context switching too much
01:42between that and being creative
and getting in flow state.
01:45Because if you don't,
01:46you're just gonna be waking
up thinking about video ideas,
01:48you're not gonna be that good.
01:49Instead, I recommend taking
time to batch your production,
01:53spend time once a week
01:55really thinking about different ideas,
01:58and trying to do three
to four in one sitting.
02:01And then, if you can,
02:02film them or schedule another time
02:03so you could take care
of the production of it,
02:06and that way, you batch it all together,
02:07and then schedule the release.
02:08So let's say once a week,
you batch the production,
02:11which I would do on Sunday nights
02:12when I was working my day job,
02:14so it wasn't on their time,
02:15and then I would schedule
a release during the week
02:17in the mornings before my job started.
02:19So I think about it like that,
02:20batch production scheduled release.
02:24how do you draw in new viewers?
02:25All right, search is
gonna be your best friend,
02:27especially when you're trying
to get initial traffic.
02:29And a great way to get content
02:31that feeds into search traffic
is to use Google Trends,
02:33and use it in a way
that most people don't.
02:35So go to trends.google.com,
02:37filter by YouTube search
instead of web search,
02:40type in the words related to your niche,
02:42and see which one is highest
02:43and start making content
around that first.
02:46And to make it even easier,
02:47TubeBuddy has a great tool
02:48which you could just plug in
02:50that shows your search volume,
02:51the competition for that search term,
02:52and the overall score for any search term,
02:55right When you put it into YouTube,
02:56which can be super helpful
02:57in helping decide what
to make content about
02:59to build your initial audience.
03:01how do I tell better stories?
03:04All right, follow this four step process
03:06to tell better stories,
03:07intro, problem, solution, outro.
03:09And this is actually a process
03:11that Nas Daily uses obsessively
03:13to grow to 30 million
followers across social media.
03:16The intro is the hook,
03:17and then comes the problem,
solution, and outro,
03:19which could sound like this.
03:20- Did you know that the
United Arab Emirates
03:23is one of the driest
countries in the world?
03:26- [Nas] How do they drink?
03:30- But you never thought
about this problem,
03:33but now you are interested in
the solution to that problem.
03:35Then you walk them through the solution,
03:37one, two, three, four, five,
03:38and then there's always an outro.
03:40There's always a call to action, which is,
03:43yeah, this is really
not about the Emirates,
03:45or the drinking, or
the water, or whatever,
03:46this is about water conservation
all around the world,
03:50So you gotta make it
a little bit personal.
03:53- And in that outro,
03:54it's key that you bring
it back to the viewer.
03:55So if you tell a story
about water conservation
03:57and the Emirates, for example,
03:59then you should think about how
04:00to conserve water in your own life,
04:02so the viewer ties it
back to their day-to-day.
04:06how could I improve my
iPhone's camera quality
04:08without buying the newest iPhone?
04:10All right, go to settings, camera,
04:13and increase the resolution to 4k,
04:15because the default is
usually much lower than that.
04:17And then when filming,
04:18try to use the back of the phone camera,
04:19which is much better than the front.
04:21And a bonus tip if you're
posting on Instagram,
04:23hit the three lines
button, go to settings,
04:25account, data usage, and
turn on high quality uploads,
04:28which is most usually toggled off.
