00:00so the most viewed video on my channel
00:03is the most useless degrees with over
00:06views and this is by far my most
00:10it seems like after watching this a
00:11bunch of people had an existential
00:14but for the most part in the comments
00:15section people had a healthy discussion
00:17and talked about which degrees were
00:19scams and which ones were worth it but i
00:21wanted to give you the other side of the
00:22coin here okay because i'm not just a
00:24negative person all right we're keeping
00:25positive vibes on this channel
00:27and today we're going to talk about the
00:30there's some majors out there where you
00:31can make it work for you but it's a
00:33little bit risky you know you got to
00:34make sure you got an internship do your
00:36due diligence do your research think
00:39but you can maybe make it work and then
00:40there's other degrees that are pretty
00:43golden ticket to a good job and those
00:45are the ones that i'm gonna be going
00:47in this video and without further ado
00:49we're gonna jump into it so sit back
00:51relax gently tap that like button and
00:54number five on the list is going to be
00:56math related degrees
00:58now math is basically the language of
01:01the universe so it's pretty obvious why
01:04useful so for instance you've got
01:05actuarial mathematics where mid-career
01:07you're going to be making over 130 000 a
01:10year then you've got the combination of
01:11an economics and mathematics degree also
01:14known as econometrics where you're going
01:15to make at least 121 000.
01:18and you'll see that almost every
01:19profession is moving towards being more
01:22one great profession you can get into if
01:24you get a statistics degree for instance
01:26data scientist and data scientists can
01:28easily make six figures a year plus and
01:31i think it's one of the best professions
01:32especially in the next
01:3410 20 30 years talked about this before
01:36on my channel but data is now worth more
01:39oil it's just incredibly valuable for
01:41you to have data on the internet now the
01:43only issue that i have with math degrees
01:45is sometimes getting a pure math degree
01:50can be a little bit too abstract and
01:52that means that yes the skills you're
01:53learning are valuable it's just a little
01:55bit difficult for you to apply that in a
01:57practical way in the real world so for
01:59that reason sometimes you'll have a
02:01little bit of difficulty getting your
02:03job now if you've got an internship
02:04during school you probably won't have
02:06much difficulty at all but if you just
02:08go into the degree thinking you don't
02:10have to do anything and people are going
02:11to be lining up at your door
02:13offering you a job with this one it's
02:15kind of does fall into that category of
02:1722 you need two years of work experience
02:20to get a job but you need to get a job
02:22in order to get two years of work
02:24but once you do get those two years of
02:25experience you are going to be good to
02:28number four on the list is going to be
02:31now i've talked about this before with
02:33business degrees you do have to be kind
02:34of careful because some of them
02:36are a little bit more worthless than
02:38others okay so if you get like a general
02:40business major or a business
02:41administration degree these are
02:43relatively useless just because of the
02:45fact that they're so general you're not
02:46really learning a specific
02:48skill so in business the trick is to
02:50specialize in something all right
02:51business as a skill is already general
02:54and so you want to specialize in maybe
02:56supply chain management or management
02:59management information systems for
03:01instance is one of my favorite ones in
03:02mid-career you'd be making
03:04around 107 000 a year mis management
03:07information systems is basically like
03:09the combination of business skills with
03:12and i think it's going to be a great one
03:14now and also in the next 10 to 20 years
03:16next on the list we're going to be
03:18talking about engineering now
03:20the thing about mathematics degrees and
03:22engineering degrees is they are
03:24relatively difficult okay for the
03:26average person they are going to be much
03:28than some of the other ones on this list
03:30like business for instance i know
03:31everybody has their own specific skill
03:33set and all that sort of thing
03:34i get that you know one of the hardest
03:36classes for me for instance
03:38in college was an english class okay i
03:40took a really advanced english class
03:42and ended up not doing so well in it but
03:44overall for the average person
03:46engineering is going to be more
03:47difficult people have a hard time even
03:49finishing it in four years a lot of
03:51engineers end up you know doing
03:52five six years even just to get their
03:55bachelor's degree now if you're anything
03:56like kevin o'leary he actually believes
03:59is the only major that's worth going to
04:01college for i disagree with that one
04:04engineering number two engineering and
04:06go with engineering i remember watching
04:08his youtube channel i could be wrong on
04:09this because i couldn't find the clip
04:11but i believe he told his son that
04:14he would only pay for his college
04:17if he became an engineering major now i
04:19do see where kevin is coming from here
04:21he does make a lot of good points in his
04:23videos you know when it comes to
04:25basically what you're learning is
04:27practical problem solving and
04:29especially if you're somebody who might
04:31want to become an entrepreneur in the
04:33that's basically what entrepreneurship
04:35is you are solving problems
04:37you go out in the world you find really
04:39painful problems that are just a huge
04:41pain in the butt to people
04:42and you solve them and you package them
04:45product so as an engineer you're almost
04:47like a middleman between kind of like
04:49the science side of things like
04:52and also technicians so you do have some
04:54more practical skills that you can use
04:57but you can also you know understand the
04:59scientific side of things as well now i
05:01think everybody knows that engineering
05:02degrees make a ridiculous amount of
05:05very easily get to six figures they are
05:07the highest paying degrees on
05:09average however i think a lot of people
05:10on the internet basically just say like
05:13is the best type of degree like period
05:15right and when it comes to usefulness
05:17they are very useful
05:19but you do have to understand the
05:21downsides as well so we want to talk
05:22about the pros and the cons
05:24so the cons of an engineering degree is
05:26first of all they are
05:27very very difficult okay a lot of
05:29engineers take more than four years in
05:32their bachelor's degrees right a lot of
05:34the time they're going to be taking five
05:36six years sometimes and these are smart
05:38people these aren't like dumb people
05:39that have to take a long time
05:41many of them end up dropping out and
05:42never finishing at all
05:44it's heavily science and math based and
05:46so if you're somebody who's not very
05:48good at math or science then maybe you
05:49should consider not going into
05:51engineering and then it's always
05:52changing so technology is always
05:54changing everything that's happening in
05:56the world is changing
05:57and so their engineering curriculum is
05:59going to change with it i guess you
06:00could say that's a pro or a con
06:02now the pros of going into engineering
06:04is it's very difficult right so
06:06being very difficult in some ways is a
06:08good thing because it creates a barrier
06:11not everybody can do engineering so if
06:13you're somebody who can do it
06:15that means that you have a huge
06:16advantage another pro is that it pays
06:19everybody knows this engineering
06:20especially as a bachelor's degree is
06:22probably one of the best paying out
06:24and there's also a lot of room for
06:26career growth everything is
06:28constantly expanding and evolving there
06:30are some types of engineering careers
06:32you can go into where a master's degree
06:34or a doctorate actually makes sense
06:36whereas in many cases getting a master's
06:39is just going to put you deeper in debt
06:40so yeah just like all the other ones
06:42engineering degrees do have their pros
06:44and their cons but for the right person
06:46it can be a great choice
06:48number two on the list is going to be
06:50technology related degrees so this is
06:53on this channel at this point computer
06:55science maybe the best possible degree
06:59extremely useful especially this
07:00particular time in history
07:02as a software developer mid-career
07:04you're going to be making around 106
07:06000 a year and the easiest way to get
07:08into software development
07:09is getting a computer science degree we
07:11are entering into the age of automation
07:13and a lot of people say that you're
07:14either going to be the one doing the
07:17or your job is going to get automated
07:19and with a computer science degree of
07:20course you would learn how to code and
07:22be the one who is programming the
07:24software that would be automating a lot
07:27learning to code is the closest thing
07:28that you're ever going to get to a
07:30superpower there's just so much that you
07:33i think this is the single most valuable
07:35skill that you can learn in the next
07:3620 to 40 years bar none and you can
07:39easily make six figures whether you just
07:40want to be an employee which you know
07:42the ideal life for some people they just
07:44want to go to their job nine to five and
07:46then come home and have
07:47you know nothing else to worry about or
07:49if maybe later on you want to start your
07:51or if you want to be like a super
07:53employee and rise up the ranks and you
07:55know make five hundred thousand
07:56a million dollars a year at one of these
07:59all of those options are going to be
08:01open for you if you go into computer
08:04the reason that i didn't put this as
08:05number one on the list is because this
08:08video is about the most
08:09useful degrees and technology degrees
08:12are extremely useful
08:13don't get me wrong but there's one
08:15degree that is more useful in my opinion
08:19and by that i mean it directly
08:21translates like you get the degree
08:23and you end up getting a job doing the
08:25exact thing that you got the degree for
08:27in many cases people will get
08:29an engineering degree for instance like
08:31let's say mechanical engineering degree
08:33and they don't end up becoming
08:35mechanical engineers now that's not
08:36necessarily a bad thing
08:38but this is a list where i'm being very
08:40specific there is one
08:42type of degree where you will almost
08:44always have demand there's almost always
08:46going to be in demand even if it's the
08:49armageddon happens these people will
08:51still have jobs on the last day that the
08:53world exists and that is
08:55health related degrees one unfortunate
08:58fact about life is all of us are going
09:00to end up getting sick
09:02and dying someday and that's just never
09:05unless maybe some of those genius
09:07engineers figure out a way to make us
09:09and here in the us at least there is
09:11constantly a shortage of healthcare
09:14nursing has had a shortage for like the
09:16last 20 years it's totally ridiculous
09:18same with doctors there's almost
09:20constantly a shortage here
09:22and you know working with the laws of
09:23supply and demand this can be a good
09:25thing in many ways because you're going
09:28options when you go into most healthcare
09:31great website to look at one that i
09:33looked at when i was in high school is
09:36explorehealthcareers.com or actually i
09:38think it's explorehealthcareers.org
09:40this is the career path that i went into
09:43none this isn't the best one right it's
09:45going to depend on your own personal
09:47situation what you're good at what
09:49you're passionate about etc
09:51you know i weighed all those factors and
09:53i found that i wanted to go into health
09:55and that's why i became a pharmacist now
09:57some of the cons of a healthcare degree
10:00in a healthcare related
10:01career is first of all you are going to
10:03get worked really hard unfortunately
10:05there's shortages a lot of the time and
10:07so therefore you're going to have to
10:10and the time that you are working you're
10:11probably going to be running around like
10:13a chicken with your head cut off
10:14second thing is you tend to see people
10:17so you know you might see consistently
10:20somebody who's having the worst
10:22day of their life and so they're
10:23probably not going to be in a very good
10:26and a lot of the time they are going to
10:27take it out on you this is something
10:28where you just kind of have to have
10:30thick skin and you have to realize the
10:32context of the situation
10:34these are not bad people they're just
10:35having a bad day and they're probably
10:37just really angry because our healthcare
10:39system here in the us is a complete mess
10:41another con here is you have this kind
10:43of dilemma of business
10:45versus health a lot of people think that
10:47you know health related careers
10:48shouldn't be run like a business
10:50there are some kind of like moral
10:51dilemmas that happen there on top of
10:53that you have to deal with a lot of
10:54government regulations
10:56and then whatever company or hospital
10:58that you work for is going to have
11:00protocols so you're constantly thinking
11:02about like 10 different things in your
11:03head oh what's the state law what's the
11:06what's the protocol at my hospital what
11:08is ethically the right thing to do here
11:10some of the pros of health care are at
11:12least here in the us you are pretty much
11:14always going to have a job people are
11:16always going to need someone to take
11:18care of them no matter how bad the
11:19economy gets people aren't just going to
11:21taking their medications they're going
11:23to continue taking those medications
11:24they're going to continue
11:26to need to be treated another thing is
11:28you get to make a real
11:29impact even if people get mad at you
11:31sometimes you know health related
11:33careers do tend to have a high meaning
11:35score which i talk about quite a bit in
11:37and the reason for this is because you
11:39really do know that you're making a
11:41another pros you can live pretty much
11:42anywhere you want to because of the fact
11:44that you know there's
11:45nurses everywhere in the united states
11:47right there's nurses everywhere doctors
11:50some professions you can even transfer
11:52to other countries so for instance nurse
11:55practitioners i believe their license is
11:58in quite a few countries around the
11:59world and same goes with doctors
12:01now if you haven't done it already go
12:02ahead and gently tap that like button
12:04hit the subscribe button ring the
12:06notification bell and comment down below
12:07any thoughts comments criticisms etc
12:10that you have on the video and before
12:11you leave check out my other videos
12:13right here i made them just for you
