00:00is the google data analytics certificate
00:02actually worth it this was a highly
00:05requested topic so if you enjoy me
00:07making this type of video go ahead
00:09gently tap that like button hit the
00:10subscribe button ring the notification
00:11bell and comment down below any thoughts
00:13comments criticisms etc and let's jump
00:15right into it so i'm going to be going
00:17over all of the important factors for
00:18the google data analytics certificate
00:20and i'm going to be ranking each of them
00:22on a scale from 1 to 10. so we're going
00:24to talk about the time to completion how
00:27much it costs the demand the salary you
00:30would expect if you were to get an
00:31entry-level position after getting the
00:33certificate the production value and
00:35engagement of the teaching material
00:37itself the chances that the certificate
00:39will land you a job and the overall
00:42value of the certificate in terms of how
00:44much it costs versus the value that it
00:46gives you so we're basically going to
00:47cover every single angle i could think
00:49of when it comes to evaluating a
00:50certificate and seeing if it's worth
00:52your time and effort and in case you
00:54weren't aware this is a certificate
00:55hosted on coursera and it's basically
00:57designed to teach you the entry-level
00:59skills you need to land a data analytics
01:02job and they even claim at the top that
01:04there is no degree or experience
01:06required so that is a very bold claim so
01:08let's go ahead and jump into it and the
01:10first thing we're going to talk about is
01:12how long it takes to complete so on the
01:14website itself they say it takes
01:16approximately six months to complete
01:17with you studying 10 hours per week so
01:20that's approximately 240 total study
01:22hours if you were to study those 10
01:24hours per week for six months however
01:26almost all of the self-reported data
01:28reviews and testimonials say that it
01:30doesn't take anywhere near six months
01:32typically for most of the reviews i
01:34looked through it ranged from as low as
01:35three days to typically somewhere around
01:38two to three months now the person who
01:39was able to get it done in three days
01:41was obviously somebody who already had
01:42the skills and they were basically just
01:44doing the certificate to bolster their
01:46resume or something along those lines
01:48but there are many reports of people
01:49finishing it in a month and even people
01:52doing it part time can often finish in
01:54two to three months so it doesn't really
01:55take all that long especially if you
01:57compare it with something like a boot
01:58camp which typically takes somewhere
02:00between three and nine months or a
02:02college degree which typically takes
02:04four to five years in order to get your
02:06bachelor's now to put this in
02:07perspective as somebody who studies
02:09education and alternative education and
02:11all these things surrounding it pretty
02:13much all day long all the time the
02:15fastest service that i've heard of that
02:18reliably gets people jobs takes about
02:20one month and that is incredibly rare
02:22i've only seen one service do it and
02:24that's because they actually partnered
02:26directly with companies and they get
02:28people interviews so if you're able to
02:29complete this certificate and land your
02:31job after two to three months that is
02:33phenomenal so overall when it comes to
02:35the time to completion i'm going to have
02:37to give this one a score of 9 out of 10.
02:39all right so next we're going to talk
02:41about the cost and yes this is very
02:43important because there are many
02:44different ways of getting educated out
02:46there that are incredibly expensive
02:48college costs eighty thousand dollars
02:50boot camps typically cost ten thousand
02:52dollars or more well it's hosted on
02:54coursera and at the time of recording
02:55this video according to my research they
02:58cost about thirty nine dollars per month
03:00and by the way if you do wanna check the
03:01course out i have it linked down in the
03:03description as well as the pinned
03:04comment below so if you take six months
03:06to finish it that would be about
03:08234 dollars if you finish it in two
03:11months that's going to be around 78 so
03:13yeah when you compare this to basically
03:15any other way of getting educated cost
03:17wise there's no comparison and i know
03:19some people are going to comment down
03:20below oh you can look everything up on
03:23google you can get educated for free yes
03:25there are many things you can look up on
03:26google but there are a ton of advantages
03:28to having a professional who knows the
03:31current trends knows the current meta so
03:33to speak tell you exactly what you need
03:35to know in order to get hired at
03:37companies it's all organized for you
03:38there's professionals teaching it and at
03:40the end you get a certificate that is
03:42respected by many companies out there
03:44which we're going to get into that later
03:46so this is just way way better from a
03:48cost standpoint this is incredibly cheap
03:50you're not really going to find anything
03:52that has this low of a price point this
03:54one has to get a 10 out of 10 when it
03:57comes to cost next we're going to be
03:59talking about demand now we're going to
04:01be talking about the demand of the
04:02certificate itself of course but overall
04:05we're going to focus more on the demand
04:07of data analytics in general so when you
04:10look at the certificate they say there's
04:11380 000 us job openings and data
04:14analytics and that's correct but i think
04:16it's actually an understatement anything
04:18to do with data data analysis data
04:21engineering data science etc is
04:23incredibly valuable and it's a highly
04:25sought after skill if you look at
04:27linkedin and you sort by entry-level
04:29jobs you'll see that there's 578 000 job
04:32postings that have the word data
04:34analysis in them and bls doesn't have
04:37data analysts specifically unfortunately
04:39they don't get specific enough for that
04:40but they do have market research
04:42analysts with about a 22 growth rate
04:45which is much faster than average and
04:47this all makes sense after all data is
04:50now more valuable than oil or gold and
04:52this makes complete sense if you think
04:54about it let's say you work for a
04:56company and you're selling jerseys for
04:58your favorite team which happens to be
05:00the los angeles lakers if you show an ad
05:03for lakers jerseys to a million random
05:06people let's say you get a hundred sales
05:08but you had to spend a lot of money to
05:10get those hundred sales and chances are
05:12you probably lost money but if you show
05:14that same ad for lakers jerseys to a
05:16million lakers fans chances are you
05:18might get something more like 10 000
05:21sales so your return on investment just
05:23increased by 100x people were 100 times
05:26more likely to buy your product and this
05:28is exactly what data analysis does for
05:31companies now the skills that data
05:33analysis offers expands into many
05:35different jobs as well a lot of the time
05:37accountants for instance are learning
05:39data analysis skills in order to have
05:41vertical growth within their career data
05:43is also becoming much more industry
05:45specific so even if you don't want to
05:46become a data analyst or a business
05:49analyst there's still going to be a
05:50massive amount of demand for the skill
05:53of data analysis and so getting the
05:55certificate likely will help you out
05:57either way and so when it comes to the
05:58demand i have to give this one a 10 out
06:00of 10. next we're going to be talking
06:02about salary and this is how much you
06:04can expect to make if you are able to
06:06land that entry-level job as a data
06:09analyst or a business analyst so for the
06:11amount of time it takes to get into this
06:13data analysts and business analysts make
06:15incredibly good money so according to
06:17the google analytics course job openings
06:19and data analytics make about 74 000 and
06:22this is a median entry-level salary per
06:25year that is absolutely ridiculously
06:28good for an entry-level job now
06:29according to glassdoor data analysts in
06:32general make about 93 000 per year and
06:34business analysts make about 95 000 and
06:37there are many different options for you
06:38in terms of career paths for instance
06:40you might go down the career path of
06:42becoming a principal data engineer and
06:44they make about 157 000 a year and you
06:47might even become a senior vice
06:48president of data engineering and they
06:50make about two hundred and eleven
06:51thousand dollars a year and not only can
06:53you move into data specific related jobs
06:56but it's also really good for making
06:58horizontal moves as well so going into
07:00different career paths my friend richard
07:02who's a product manager that i
07:03interviewed on this channel told me for
07:05instance that his number one
07:06recommendation for somebody who wants to
07:08become a product manager at a major
07:10software or tech company is to get into
07:13data analytics so data analytics is
07:15incredibly important just about anywhere
07:17you go within the company it's also
07:19becoming very important for people who
07:20get into digital marketing as well next
07:22one on the list is going to be the
07:23production value of taking the classes
07:26and the certificate itself now take this
07:27part with a grain of salt because it's
07:29incredibly subjective how much you like
07:31something has a lot to do with whether
07:32you like the personality of the
07:34instructors or whether you like the
07:36subject itself but if you look at the
07:37reviews they do tend to be pretty good
07:40so overall i'm gonna give this one an 8
07:42out of 10. next one on the list is very
07:44important that's going to be the
07:45certificates chances of landing you a
07:48job now a lot of the time i'm not going
07:50to lie certificates likely will not land
07:52you a job all on their own and let's be
07:55honest do you even expect them to do
07:57that it's a 39 a month certificate you
08:00know there's a lot of people who
08:01graduate from college who still can't
08:03even land jobs and that costs 80 000 so
08:06if a 39 a month certificate even gives
08:08you a puncher's chance of landing a job
08:11then that's got to be a pretty good
08:12value but with that being said data
08:14analytics is such a highly sought after
08:17skill that this certificate actually
08:19does have a pretty good chance of
08:20landing you an entry-level job now they
08:22claim on the website that there is job
08:24opportunities at over 300 different
08:26companies that have basically agreed
08:28that the google data analytics
08:29certificate curriculum is really good to
08:32teach people the skills they need to
08:33land that entry-level job on top of that
08:35the network effects of people who have
08:37started taking these certificates with
08:39coursera edx and other companies like
08:41that are starting to kick in it used to
08:44be a little bit of a joke or a meme when
08:46you saw certificates on people's resumes
08:48because just about anybody out there
08:50could make up a certificate and it
08:52really didn't matter i mean i could
08:53literally almost just make up my own
08:55certificate and then like put it on my
08:57own resume it's almost like a hotel that
08:59rates themselves like five golden stars
09:01or something along those lines but with
09:03that being said many many people who are
09:05highly respected within industries
09:06they're starting to take these
09:08certificates and they're seeing the
09:09value in them and so whether you're
09:11taking this certificate because you're
09:12trying to gain the skills to get a
09:13promotion or you're trying to switch
09:15into a different career or you're just
09:17trying to get an entry level job these
09:19do have a lot of value and there are
09:21tons of reviews and testimonials from
09:23people on reddit and youtube of people
09:26who have gotten jobs just by taking the
09:28certificate alone and on top of that
09:30there is a significant amount of the
09:31course that is dedicated to getting you
09:34interviews and landing you a job and on
09:36the coursera website itself this
09:38certificate does have a 4.8 star rating
09:41with 61 588 ratings at the time of
09:44recording this video and if you look at
09:46the individual courses within the
09:48certificate most of them are rated 4.8
09:50stars but two of them quartz 5 and
09:53course 6 are rated 4.6 but with that
09:56being said is it reasonable to truly
09:58expect a 39 a month certificate to
10:02reliably land you a job probably not for
10:05the average person i think the typical
10:07person taking this will actually have to
10:09do some outside study or other things to
10:11supplement this certificate but with
10:13that being said i think the main reason
10:15that people end up failing and getting a
10:17job is because of the fact that they
10:19just find out they're not interested in
10:21data analysis or becoming a data analyst
10:24and imagine getting a data analytics
10:26degree in college and then finding out
10:28you know your fourth or your fifth year
10:30that you're not interested and you don't
10:31want to be a data analyst after you've
10:33already spent 80 000
10:35and like five years of your life versus
10:37finding out that you're not interested
10:39in data analysis after spending maybe a
10:41few weeks and 39 on a certificate so i
10:44think you get my point here whether you
10:46end up getting a job or not i think this
10:47is a phenomenal way to dip your toe into
10:50data analytics whether you have any
10:52experience or not so overall i'm going
10:54to give this one a score of 8 out of 10
10:55when it comes to the chances of landing
10:57you a job next we're going to talk about
10:59the overall value of the certificate and
11:02what i mean by value is how much you get
11:06for the price you pay so according to
11:08coursera 75 of google certificate
11:11graduates in the united states report an
11:13improvement in their career trajectory
11:15within six months of certificate
11:17completion now i kind of wish they did
11:19this certificate by certificate they
11:21sort of group all google certs into one
11:23but it is pretty impressive that 75
11:25percent of people showed those positive
11:27outcomes now it is relatively well
11:29respected right now and it's only going
11:30to get more respected as time goes on it
11:33has become incredibly obvious to
11:34companies and basically anyone else who
11:36looks into this that college simply
11:38cannot keep up with modern skills
11:40colleges often teach people something
11:42that might have been true 20 or 30 years
11:44ago but isn't true now and when a new
11:46technology comes out colleges are way
11:48too slow and stuck in the mud to catch
11:51up and teach people the most in-demand
11:54skills and so companies came together
11:56and they were like we need to figure out
11:57how to solve this problem and that is
11:59why google and ibm and all these
12:01different companies started creating
12:03these certificates they had a ridiculous
12:04amount of demand for people who had data
12:06analytics skills and nobody to fill
12:08those jobs now one criticism of this
12:10course is it does teach you r instead of
12:13python and python is of course very
12:15common to see in data analytics roles so
12:18this is not a comprehensive course so i
12:21think one of the main reasons you see
12:22some negative reviews on the internet
12:24when it comes to certificates is because
12:26people go into it with the wrong mindset
12:29and when it comes to comparing
12:30certificates degrees boot camps and
12:33online courses that's almost like
12:35comparing a hammer to a wrench if the
12:37situation requires you to smash a nail
12:40into the board then a hammer is going to
12:42be the best tool to use and if the
12:44situation requires you to tighten a nut
12:46or a bolt then a wrench is going to be
12:48the best tool to use and so whether a
12:50certificate or boot camp etc is going to
12:52be the best choice for you depends on
12:54your individual situation but with that
12:57being said when it comes to the risk
12:58that you take with a boot camp versus
13:01college versus an online course versus a
13:03certification the certificate has very
13:06little risk if you go to college for
13:08data analytics and then you end up
13:10hating it you just wasted eighty
13:12thousand dollars and four years of your
13:14life if you take a certificate for data
13:16analytics and you end up hating it you
13:20and a month of your life so clearly the
13:22risk is much much lower for taking the
13:24certificate and that's why i think these
13:26are a fantastic way for you to dip your
13:28toe into different subjects so overall
13:30as long as you understand the value
13:32proposition of certificates the value
13:34here is easily a 10 out of 10. now when
13:37you add everything up and then you
13:38divide it the overall score is 9.17 out
13:41of 10. the google data analytics
13:43certificate gets a massive thumbs up
13:45from me i think it is phenomenal how
13:47we're seeing all of these different
13:49alternatives and competitors to college
13:51pop up because college is the right
13:53choice in certain situations but it's
13:55not always the right choice and it seems
13:57like our society tries to make everybody
14:00go to college when in reality there are
14:02a lot of other really good options check
