00:00so work from home and remote jobs are
00:02insanely popular right now the pandemic
00:05gave people a taste of what working from
00:07home was like and pretty much everybody
00:09wants a remote or semi-remote job now
00:11and it's obvious why you get more
00:13freedom you get more control over your
00:15environment and you get to spend more
00:17time with the people that you care about
00:19and as somebody who has landed a remote
00:20job myself and as somebody who
00:22specializes in helping other people land
00:25jobs and I've helped hundreds of people
00:26do it I'm going to be sharing my best
00:28tips on how you can land a remote job in
00:31this video so buckle up remotely
00:33destroyed that like button and let's get
00:35into the first tip on this video which
00:37is choosing the right remote job now
00:40choosing the right career path and even
00:42more importantly the right job is of the
00:45utmost importance and there's probably
00:47three different types of people who are
00:48watching this video the first type of
00:50person is someone who's extremely early
00:52on in their career or they might even be
00:53looking for their very first job the
00:55second type of person is somebody who is
00:57extremely ambitious and they want to get
00:59a remote job so they can have time to do
01:02other things like start their own
01:04business on the side and the third type
01:05of person is somebody who's in a part of
01:07their life where they want kind of like
01:09a chill job where they can kind of work
01:11from home and they can do a good job and
01:13they can make some pretty decent money
01:14but they really just want something
01:16where they're not going to be going into
01:17an office every day spending a bunch of
01:19time in traffic and they basically want
01:21to focus more on their lifestyle and to
01:23all three of those types of people I
01:25have the same advice which is to go
01:28where the opportunity is this is
01:30something I say over and over again on
01:32this channel it's basically the slogan
01:33of the channel and what that basically
01:35means is choose companies Industries
01:37careers and jobs that have a lot of
01:39opportunity if you position yourself in
01:41an industry like technology for instance
01:43there's going to be a ton of
01:45opportunities if you can get a job for a
01:47company like apple even if it's one of
01:49the lowest jobs on their list like a
01:50customer service rep that is going to
01:52open a lot of opportunities for you if
01:54you go into a career where there's
01:55really high demand something like Tech
01:57sales or digital marketing that is going
01:59to open a ton of opportunities for you
02:00and if you go for a job that's going to
02:02teach you in-demand skills something
02:04like appointment setting again that is
02:06going to give you a ton of opportunities
02:08and no matter what your goal is you are
02:10going to have more leverage because you
02:12have in-demand skills and this is
02:14basically like a cheat code because
02:16you're getting paid to learn these
02:18in-demand skills right A lot of people
02:19go to college for four maybe even up to
02:2212 years in order to learn in-demand
02:24skills but if you're smart you can get
02:26paid to learn skills that are just as
02:28valuable so the career that you go for
02:30aka the vehicle that you choose is going
02:32to make a massive difference in how much
02:34money you make the lifestyle you get the
02:36benefits you get Etc and you'll notice
02:38that a lot of the most in-demand careers
02:40are the ones where it's easiest to get
02:42remote jobs and that's because as an
02:44employee that has these in-demand skills
02:46you have a lot more leverage and
02:48companies know that a lot of people want
02:50remote jobs so in order to sweeten the
02:52pot to attract the best talent they're
02:54going to offer you these remote
02:55positions now this is honestly a little
02:57bit of a complicated subject you know
02:59choosing the perfect career for you is
03:00something that you know I could probably
03:02do an entire month series on but I'm
03:04actually going to be doing a three-day
03:05live event challenge this weekend where
03:07I'm going to be helping people choose
03:09the perfect career for them and I'll put
03:11the link to sign up for that down in the
03:13description as well as the pinned
03:14comment below but more on that later so
03:16step two once you've chosen the career
03:18is you want to create your MVP resume
03:21now MVP does not stand for most valuable
03:24player it stands for minimum viable
03:27product so a lot of people will spend
03:29way too much time on their resume
03:31instead of doing what they should be
03:33doing which is applying to jobs they'll
03:35think oh I don't have the skills
03:36necessary or I don't have the right
03:38experience or I don't have this or that
03:40and so it'll take months and months
03:41before they even start applying and this
03:43is the exact opposite of what I teach
03:46and this is why me and my business
03:47partners can sometimes get people jobs
03:49in something like seven days 10 days 14
03:52days is because we have people start
03:54applying for these jobs right away so
03:56your resume is something that can be
03:58fine-tuned and updated it over time and
04:01instead of spending three months writing
04:02your resume what you should be doing is
04:04creating a minimum viable product for
04:07the resume start sending it in and then
04:09track the data that you get from that
04:11resume and optimize it using that data
04:13now one thing you definitely want to do
04:15is make sure that you have what's known
04:17as an ATS friendly resume so one mistake
04:20that I see people making all the time is
04:22they'll have a super creative colorful
04:24resume that isn't ATS friendly and ATS
04:27stands for applicant tracking system so
04:29this is something I'll be giving away in
04:31this three day live challenge that I'll
04:32be doing and it's a really good ATS
04:34friendly resume that thousands of people
04:36have used to get jobs and if you get an
04:39ATS friendly resume that's probably
04:40going to increase your chances of
04:42success by like 500 percent now one
04:44thing you want to do on this resume is
04:46you want to look at the skills that
04:47companies are looking for and then
04:49quickly generate your own experience
04:51when it comes to those skills and the
04:53way you want to think about this is how
04:55long would it take you to learn that
04:57skill now if it's a really difficult
04:59skill something like programming for
05:01instance obviously that's going to take
05:02you a little bit of time to learn but if
05:04it's something that's much easier you
05:06should put it on your resume while
05:07you're generating the skills and we'll
05:09get to that a little bit later on in the
05:11portfolio creation process but now we're
05:13going to move on to step three which is
05:15you are going to start applying right
05:17away so you're going to start looking on
05:19Google jobs for job postings that match
05:21the career you're trying to get into and
05:23you're going to start applying for these
05:24job postings now one mistake that I see
05:27all the time is people will see oh you
05:29need one to three years of experience in
05:31order to apply for this job so therefore
05:32they don't apply for it now this is a
05:34common mistake that I see but in reality
05:37if it's an entry-level job or a job that
05:39only requires one to three years of
05:41experience you should still apply for it
05:43and I have seen this over and over again
05:46where people will land these jobs treat
05:48the one to three years of experience not
05:50as a requirement but as a preference and
05:53if you're somebody who has a really good
05:54portfolio built out which I'm going to
05:56show you how to do here in a few moments
05:57then the one to three years of
05:59experience really really doesn't matter
06:00but in this step you definitely want to
06:02figure out what are the skills that
06:04companies are looking for and then you
06:05want to move on to step number four
06:07keeping in mind that you're continuing
06:09to apply for these jobs and you want to
06:11learn the necessary skills now this does
06:14not mean that you need to become a
06:16master of these skills what you want to
06:18do instead is use what's known as the 80
06:2020 rule or the perritos principle and
06:22this is basically where 20 percent of
06:24your actions lead to eighty percent of
06:26the results so you can actually get
06:28pretty proficient at just about any
06:30skill out there in somewhere around 10
06:33to 20 hours and the way you do this is
06:35not by passively watching a bunch of
06:37YouTube videos or passively watching
06:39some kind of course on udemy the way you
06:41do this is by actively building
06:43something applying those skills in real
06:45time and that's what you're going to do
06:47in Step number five which is you are
06:49going to build out your portfolio and
06:51you're going to be building it while
06:53you're actively learning now step number
06:55five is where you do want to try to get
06:57a little bit creative you want to build
06:59a portfolio Leo that really showcases
07:01that you have the skills that you say
07:03you have or at the very least it
07:05showcases that you can rapidly learn
07:07those skills so one thing for instance
07:08that my friend Josh did in his it course
07:10for course careers which has worked
07:12incredibly well is he actually has you
07:14build your own ticketing system and if
07:16you're applying for IT jobs what that
07:18showcases is not only are you going to
07:20know how to use their ticketing system
07:22but you literally know how to build your
07:26nice so that's a very creative way of
07:28showing that you know your stuff so it's
07:31worth it to spend a little bit of time
07:32coming up with good ideas here to
07:35Showcase that you have the skills that
07:37you say you have now you don't actually
07:38have to build out your own website or
07:40anything like that when it comes to your
07:41portfolio you can actually host it
07:43completely free on an app like notion
07:45which is not the sponsor of today's
07:46video but you can also build out your
07:48own website if you want to and a really
07:50great way of showcasing your portfolio
07:52is to actually make a video that you put
07:55on notion for instance but not only
07:57showcases the project but also talks
07:58about your thought processes behind
08:00building it now the portfolio is
08:02incredibly important because this is how
08:04you can showcase those skills so that
08:07you can get ahead of the people who went
08:09to school and got a college degree
08:10because a lot of the time the stuff that
08:12you learn in college is not the stuff
08:14that they're actually looking for in the
08:16real world and I think it goes without
08:17saying that the way that you learn the
08:19skills that they're actually looking for
08:20is you look at the job posting right
08:23look at the job description and then
08:24you're going to move on to step number
08:26number six is you're going to keep
08:28applying but in different ways so I
08:30mentioned Google jobs and that's a
08:32really good job board to start with you
08:33can also use LinkedIn and honestly if
08:35you limited me to one platform it would
08:37have to be LinkedIn and there's also a
08:39bunch of different Niche websites so for
08:40instance if you're applying for digital
08:42marketing jobs there's a bunch of
08:43different Niche digital marketing job
08:44boards and same thing goes for Tech
08:46sales Etc so you can start applying on
08:48all of those different Niche websites as
08:50well and another thing you can start
08:51doing is you can actually start
08:53networking now networking is sort of a
08:56long-term play but it's honestly the
08:58most effective way of getting jobs
08:59especially if you're going for an
09:02exclusive job that's difficult to get so
09:04networking in person is really good
09:06that's a great way to do it but an easy
09:07way to start networking is to start
09:09posting content on LinkedIn and
09:12basically you can post content that's
09:13relevant to the industry company career
09:16Etc that you're going for so I've talked
09:19about this before on the channel but
09:20Della who's somebody who I interviewed
09:22on this channel who was able to land a
09:24one hundred thousand dollar Tech sales
09:25job in about a month and a half started
09:28posting about the cyber security
09:29industry on her LinkedIn and she made
09:32really insightful posts and kind of
09:34stayed up to date with the news and all
09:35that sort of thing about cyber security
09:37and that's how she was able to get her
09:39dream company to actually reach out to
09:42her right she didn't reach out to them
09:43they reached out to her because she
09:46started making these posts and she added
09:48a bunch of people in the cyber security
09:50industry so that is one of the easiest
09:52and most scalable ways that you can
09:54start networking now don't get me wrong
09:56this is not a get a job in one week type
09:58of strategy networking typically is
09:59going to take a long period of time but
10:01this is one of those things that's
10:02absolutely worth doing so while you're
10:05building out these portfolios while
10:06you're learning the skills you can also
10:08start doing research on the industry and
10:10simply posting whatever you find on your
10:13LinkedIn and then you're going to move
10:14on to step number seven which is nail
10:16the interviews now I know that there's a
10:18lot of introverts that watch this
10:20Channel and I know that interviews can
10:21be extremely nerve-wracking but the best
10:23way for you to nail the interview is to
10:25be able to speak the language of the
10:28position that you're applying for and
10:30the best way for you to be able to speak
10:31the language is to build out that
10:33portfolio and learn the correct skills
10:36so for instance if you're applying for a
10:38job for a YouTube channel you want to
10:40know what avd APV and CTR stands for avd
10:45stands for average view duration APV
10:47stands for average percentage viewed and
10:49CTR stands for click-through rate and
10:51these are things you would absolutely
10:53have to know if you're applying to be a
10:55Content strategist on YouTube for
10:57instance so you really want to learn the
10:59language of whatever position that
11:00you're applying for and if you can
11:01casually and insightfully speak in this
11:04type of language they will know that you
11:06know what you're talking about so if
11:08you're applying for a tech sales
11:09position you would probably talk about
11:11CRM which is customer relationship
11:13management software if you're applying
11:15for an operations management position
11:16you'd want to talk about different
11:18software like Asana click up base camp
11:21Etc I think you get the idea here make
11:23sure that you understand the language of
11:25the position you're applying for for and
11:27make sure that you use that language
11:28during the interview now a great way
11:30that you can learn this type of language
11:31is to go to different forums of people
11:33who are already working in the career
11:35and you'll notice that they talk about
11:37these things quite a bit and if there's
11:38any words that you don't understand make
11:40sure to look them up and make sure to
11:42understand them now another thing you
11:43can do to really nail the interview is
11:45to build a brand story this is where you
11:47basically talk about why you're so
11:49passionate about whatever position
11:51you're applying for so for instance when
11:53I used to be a pharmacist I would always
11:55talk about how I'm really passionate
11:56about Pharmacy because of the fact that
11:58my dad had a heart attack at a young age
12:00and because of the fact that there were
12:02medications he was taking that extended
12:04his life for a very long period of time
12:05now step number eight is realize that
12:08it's all a numbers game if you make the
12:11best resume ever the best portfolio ever
12:13you're an incredible interviewer you are
12:15going to have a higher percentage of job
12:18offers but realistically speaking if
12:20you're not the best at all three of
12:22those things you can make up for it by
12:24simply applying to more jobs and at the
12:26end of the day almost everything in life
12:28is a numbers game from making YouTube
12:31videos to applying to job offers to all
12:34sorts of other things and you can
12:35compensate for skill by simply working
12:38harder and applying to more jobs now
12:40again these are all things that I'm
12:42going to cover extensively in this
12:44three-day challenge that I'm going to be
12:46doing live this weekend so I highly
12:48recommend checking that out there is a
12:50small cost to it typically people will
12:52pay somewhere between 300 to 600 an hour
12:55for my consultations and I'm going to be
12:57giving away the most common questions
12:58and the most common tips that I give to
13:01people in those consultation sessions
13:02and I'll also be answering your
13:04questions live so definitely check that
13:06out I'm going to put it down in the
13:07description as well as the pinned
13:09comment below and if you guys really
13:10like it it might be something that I do
13:11many times in the future check this
13:13video out right here if you want to
13:14check out some of the best remote jobs
