00:01- [Falcon] The Xbox Showcase this year
00:03was actually a serious banger.
00:05We've got some really nice
stuff to look forward to
00:08and I don't wanna waste any time.
00:09Let's get right into it.
00:10Hi, folks, it's Falcon,
00:11and today on Gameranx,
00:1315 big new announcements
of Xbox Showcase 2024.
00:17Starting off at number
15, it's "Atomfall."
00:20Not to be confused with "Fallout: London,"
00:23this is a completely different game.
00:24The scenario is not the same as "Fallout."
00:26We're not talking nuclear war,
00:28we're talking nuclear disaster.
00:29And we're not talking exploratory
RPG with shooter elements,
00:33we're talking survival.
00:35there are things that resemble
"Fallout" in this trailer,
00:38but it doesn't get overly
retrofuturistic at any point.
00:42There are a few elements of that
00:43but nothing like "Fallout" in my opinion.
00:45You got settlements, cults,
mutants that live in caves,
00:50and surface level, all that
stuff sounds like "Fallout,"
00:52but if you look at the trailer,
00:53it doesn't look like "Fallout."
00:55In terms of armament, you
are not a walking tank.
00:59We see our guy with a
revolver at one point,
01:02bow and arrow at another
and then a flashlight.
01:05It doesn't seem like
you're gonna be launching
01:06any mini nukes is what I'm saying.
01:09You're gonna be scavenging
and trying to stay alive,
01:11which is a very different
goal than that of "Fallout,"
01:14which, I mean, generally,
01:15the idea is to become
an unstoppable badass.
01:18There's power armor and
crazy weapons and stuff.
01:21So I think there's some
pretty big distinctions here
01:24that and it's a survival game.
01:25It's also a very pretty survival game.
01:28You got an indie
developer called Rebellion
01:30and they actually made an in-house engine
01:32that looks pretty sweet.
01:33"Atomfall" is gonna come to
Xbox series and PC next year.
01:37We'll give you more
information as we know it.
01:39And number 14 is "Mixtape,"
01:41a game that brings together
a classic soundtrack
01:43with a very unique art style
01:45and apparently, "nostalgic aimlessness,"
01:47according to its description.
01:48I will let it off the
hook for that for now
01:50because it does look
like an interesting game
01:52in terms of gameplay.
01:54It's got you flying
around your old memories.
01:56I mean, not your old memories,
the character's old memories.
01:59And I don't exactly know
where that's gonna go,
02:01but you're flying around in countrysides
02:03in a very interesting art style.
02:05Honestly, visually striking,
02:07got a good soundtrack,
02:08worth giving a chance.
02:10Don't know when it's coming out though,
02:11so we'll give you more
information when we have it.
02:14And number 13 is "Age
of Mythology: Retold,"
02:17basically, "Age of Empires" extreme,
02:21this is a remake of the old offshoot
02:23of the "Age of Empires" series.
02:26It's still an RTS game.
02:27It still uses a lot of the fundamentals
02:29that you find in "Age of Empires,"
02:31but now you got huge
Greek God crap going on,
02:35epic disasters, insane crap,
02:37dogs and cats living
together, mass hysteria.
02:40Honestly, if you remember this game,
02:42it's a hell of a lot of fun
if you like "Age of Empires"
02:45and they've really got it looking cool.
02:47It's recognizably age of mythology to me
02:50but also there's so much stuff
02:52that absolutely couldn't be visualized
02:55the way that it is here
02:57back when that game
originally came out in 2002.
02:59We actually do have a release date for it.
03:01It's coming to Xbox Series
and PC September 4th.
03:06And number 12, we've got
"Dragon Age: The Veilguard."
03:09Finally, we actually do have
footage of the game engine.
03:13We got sort of a team
assembly type trailer
03:16where we get the introduction
to a few different characters
03:19and then basically is like
the player will be the leader.
03:22I mean, it's a pretty basic
concept for a trailer,
03:25but they do a good job making
it really big and epic.
03:28I mean, it looks like the
"Dragon Age" you want to play,
03:31and that really, to be
frank, is what BioWare
03:34really needed it to look like.
03:35We don't have an exact date,
03:37but it will be coming out
03:38in the fall of this year apparently,
03:40so we will let you know
more as we know it.
03:44Moving on to number 11, we've
got "South of Midnight,"
03:47which is a game we've actually seen prior
03:50and it looks very interesting.
03:52It wasn't just a cinematic
trailer this time around.
03:55We got some actual gameplay of it.
03:58I actually got some "God of
War" reboot vibes from it.
04:00It's maybe a little faster paced.
04:02I definitely wouldn't put it
04:03in the PlatinumGames' action area,
04:06but it's an action game
04:07with some clear adventure
and exploration elements.
04:10It's definitely a lush
in very pretty world.
04:12Very different and unique
looking as far as I'm concerned.
04:16And you got some pretty
awesome traversal powers
04:18like you got some grappling hook stuff,
04:20you got some uncharted stuff.
04:22I mean, there's a lot
going on in this game.
04:24The music also, absolutely
beyond enjoyable.
04:28I don't know, I think this is
gonna be a really cool game.
04:30We didn't get a release date.
04:31It's gonna be next year though,
04:33so I mean we got a while to wait.
04:34I'm excited for it though.
04:36Number 10, a "Perfect
Dark" gameplay reveal.
04:39So let's just go ahead and say this,
04:40the "Perfect Dark"
trailer is fricking cool.
04:43If you've ever played
"Mirror's Edge" and thought,
04:45"Man, this could use a little
more fighting and gun play,"
04:48it looks like the new "Perfect Dark"
04:49is basically made for you.
04:51And basically, that's kind
of what I've always wanted.
04:54Look, I've always wanted
more "Mirror's Edge."
04:57It's not that I don't want more of that
04:59and it seems like we'll never get it,
05:00but I've also wanted this.
05:02This is exactly what I wanted
after playing "Mirror's Edge,"
05:06and that's really exciting.
05:07We've got the spy hacking.
05:09We've got bullet time, it seems like.
05:11We've got, like I said,
the "Mirror's Edge" style
05:14I don't even care what this is about.
05:16The company behind it, the initiative,
05:18has people working at it that
previously worked at BioWare,
05:21Naughty Dog, Respawn, Santa Monica Studio,
05:24Blizzard, Insomniac, Rockstar,
05:27and it's headed up by the
guy who used to head up
05:30It's seemingly a hell of a studio
05:33and they are accomplishing
05:35some very cool looking things with this.
05:36I seriously can't wait to play this.
05:38In some ways, it kind of
sucks that it's not Rare
05:41but also, I don't really know
05:42what the hell's going on with Rare.
05:43They released that "Battletoads"
revival a few years ago.
05:46That was really good, frankly.
05:47It kind of got savaged by
reviewers, but I enjoyed it.
05:50Regardless, this looks phenomenal.
05:53At number 9, hey, there's
a new "DOOM" game.
05:56It's called "DOOM: The Dark Ages."
05:57And I don't know why
they have made a prequel
06:00that puts "DOOM" in a medieval setting.
06:04I don't ask a lot of
questions regarding "DOOM"
06:06and I'm not gonna ask why.
06:07I don't care why, it's "DOOM."
06:09And to be frank, all of
the cool combo, shooting,
06:13new school "DOOM" stuff is here,
06:15looks like a great progression
of that formula even.
06:19I mean, the people doing
the modern "DOOM" games
06:21really have it honed to
a finely tuned arcadey,
06:25but, I mean, first-person shooters
06:27were never in the arcade type thing.
06:30You got a bunch of new
weapons from the looks of it.
06:32They're probably somewhat
familiar, at least some of them,
06:35probably some stuff outta left field.
06:37Yeah, "DOOM" guy looks pretty
badass with a cape though,
06:42Guy's wearing a pelt.
06:43I don't know, everything looks imposing,
06:46more so than usual even.
06:47And I don't know exactly,
06:49again, why any of this is happening,
06:51but I also kind of don't care.
06:52I'm happy to see more "DOOM."
06:54These guys make great levels.
06:56It's great gameplay.
06:57How could you not want more?
06:58"DOOM: the Dark Ages" is
coming to Xbox Series,
07:02PlayStation 5, and PC next year.
07:06And number 8, we got a new
"State of Decay" trailer.
07:09"State of Decay 3" is on
its way, which is good.
07:12I mean, it's a franchise that I think
07:14maybe doesn't get the
attention that it deserves,
07:16so knowing that we're getting
another one, I'm happy.
07:19It's also a good trailer,
07:20really emphasizes teamwork,
community, and sacrifice.
07:24I mean, it's a good trailer.
07:25We didn't exactly get any major clues
07:27as to what maybe might
innovate in terms of gameplay.
07:31We did get, I think, interestingly enough
07:33some shots that kind of
emulate what to expect,
07:35which I kind of like.
07:37If you're gonna give
us a cinematic trailer,
07:39give us a couple of shots
07:40that actually kind of represent
what the game is gonna be.
07:43Even if it's not necessarily the game,
07:45kind of show us what you're doing,
07:46and I think they did that here.
07:48I mean, the world looks
cooler than it ever did.
07:50I'm definitely excited to
see what they're able to do
07:53with a third "State of Decay" game.
07:55We don't have a date or anything
07:57but it is gonna be an Xbox exclusive,
08:00which makes sense, it's always been,
08:01and we'll definitely keep
you informed as we know more.
08:06At number 7 is "Diablo: Vessel of Hatred,"
08:09the first "Diablo IV" expansion.
08:13I mean, it's a "Diablo IV" expansion,
08:15so you know that it's going
to play like "Diablo IV,"
08:17which is good 'cause
"Diablo IV" plays very well.
08:20And I think that they
made the right choice
08:22giving us a very
cinematic trailer that is,
08:26My favorite thing in the world
08:28isn't human bodies splitting
up into semi-detached masses.
08:35they really lure you into
a false sense of security
08:38in the course of this trailer
08:39and, I mean, it was some
pretty good storytelling,
08:42So we're gonna get a new class,
08:43we're gonna get base game updates,
08:46new PVE, new co-op stuff.
08:48I mean, they're updating
almost every aspect of the game
08:50as well as adding an expansion.
08:52It looks to me like it's gonna
be a pretty sweet add-on.
08:56Gotta say, the creative
team and the art department,
08:59they're definitely doing
the heavy lifting here
09:00in terms of hype because,
09:02I mean, we all know what
"Diablo IV" is at this point,
09:05and that's not to de-emphasize
how good "Diablo IV" is.
09:08I mean, it has its problems,
09:10certainly, near launch, it
had quite a few problems,
09:12but this looks like a
pretty good expansion.
09:14I'm pretty excited for it.
09:15It's coming to PlayStation,
Xbox, and PC October 8th.
09:20And moving on to number 6,
"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33."
09:25It's an interesting story.
09:26Apparently, there's a paintress
that wakes up every year,
09:28paints a number, and it
kills off a bunch of people
09:31and you're on an expedition to stop it.
09:34This is the 33rd time she is
going to wake up and do this.
09:38Obviously, the idea of
the game is to stop it,
09:41like I'm just gonna
throw a guess out there.
09:43The twist in this game
09:44is that you aren't actually stopping it,
09:46you're facilitating it,
09:47and once you figure that out,
09:49you decide that you're
going to break the cycle
09:52And honestly, I always
dig a game like that.
09:54If I'm right, I'm there for it,
09:56and if I'm wrong, I'm still there for it.
09:57Looks like a cool game.
09:58I like the aesthetic,
09:59the gameplay looks good
10:01or at least what they're representing
10:02the gameplay to look like,
10:03probably an action RPG.
10:04Gonna be landing next year,
10:06so we'll give you more
information when we have it.
10:08And number 5 is "Starfield:
Shattered Space"
10:10and say what you will about "Starfield."
10:12It is an interesting and fun game
10:15that does provide a lot of cool stuff,
10:17particularly the ship builder,
10:18but now they're going to be bringing
10:20a whole lot more of cool stuff
10:22because they're bringing
the Creation Kit into it
10:24and also, they're releasing a DLC
10:25that really gives off
some major "Prey" vibes.
10:28It's called "Shattered Space."
10:29And besides the "Prey" vibes it gives off,
10:31it also reminds me of
some of the scarier DLCs
10:35from the "Elder Scrolls"
games in weird ways.
10:39It's also, in some ways,
reminded me of "No Man's Sky"
10:42but cosmic horror
instead of cosmic wonder.
10:45Obviously, it's a game that is
nothing like "No Man's Sky."
10:48It's a Bethesda game.
10:49Is it ever a Bethesda game?
10:50But honestly it, yeah, it
really gives the kinds of vibes
10:54that previous Bethesda DLCs, the old stuff
10:57that I personally really enjoy.
10:59It's given me that kind of vibe
11:00and I never got that kind of vibe
11:02from "Starfield" at any point,
11:03even though I did enjoy "Starfield."
11:05I'm really excited to see where
this goes 'cause it really,
11:07I can't stress enough how
much it reminds me of,
11:11like the weird otherworldly encounters
11:13in various "Elder Scrolls" DLC.
11:15Longtime Bethesda people
will remember that.
11:18And I give them crap about
their engine all the time,
11:21but they do create some
damn good experiences
11:23in terms of content,
11:24and I'm definitely looking
forward to "Shattered Space."
11:26It is coming this year.
11:28We will give you more
information when we have it.
11:32And number 4, we got some new gameplay
11:34for "Indiana Jones and the
Great Circle" from MachineGames.
11:38I mentioned them up front
because the game to me
11:40is looking more and more
like a MachineGames game
11:44as they show us more of it.
11:46I mean, the MachineGames guys,
11:48they excel at portraying Nazis badly,
11:50they give them interesting traits,
11:52they make it so you
kind of find 'em funny,
11:54but you just like feel the evil
oozing from them instantly.
11:59If there's anybody who does
it better than MachineGames,
12:01I don't know who does.
12:03And then you throw an Indiana Jones
12:04and hey, how can you complain?
12:06Is there any better fictional character
12:08besides the other one that MachineGames
12:10has made massive hit
after massive hit with?
12:14Troy Baker is doing a
great job as Indy as well.
12:17Never makes you really think about it.
12:19You just feel like you're
watching Indiana Jones,
12:23That is exactly what you want.
12:24And again, like I said,
12:25the gameplay actually looks pretty good.
12:28Looks a lot like a MachineGames game,
12:30but you have a whip now.
12:31I think they were a good
choice 'cause again,
12:34they deal with Nazis good thing
12:36but also they deal with weapons good,
12:38like different weapons.
12:39They're good at innovating
weird gameplay mechanics
12:44and I think the whip is 100% that
12:47when you're talking about
a first person whip.
12:48I am pretty excited to play this.
12:51It's also got a better name
than the "Dial of Destiny."
12:54"The Great Circle" actually
sounds like something,
12:56"Dial of Destiny" doesn't.
12:57It is coming this year,
12:58so look for more news on
that as soon as we have it.
13:03So we've actually got some new information
13:05on the "Fable" game.
13:07There has not been a new
"Fable" game since 2010,
13:10and this game is going to
focus on a guy who was retired
13:16Hell of a retired guy named that one.
13:18He's gonna be forced outta
retirement of course.
13:20I mean, if it was just like about
13:21sitting around in his house,
13:23remembering like the good
old days or something,
13:25that probably wouldn't
be a very good game.
13:27But we got a little gameplay.
13:28It isn't really enough to
make a lot of judgment on.
13:31It's definitely looks like "Fable."
13:33There's definitely going to be choice.
13:35It's somehow going to
affect the overall story,
13:37which is good to know,
13:38but we still don't know a hell of a lot.
13:41It does have a release
window of 2025 now though,
13:44which is something we didn't know before,
13:49And number 2 is "Life Is
Strange: Double Exposure."
13:51Honestly, it seems like it's probably
13:54what they should have done all along.
13:55They returned to the original protagonist.
13:58Max Caulfield is the
protagonist of this one.
14:01I don't know why they went off
with different protagonists.
14:03I know that the ending
of "Life Is Strange"
14:05was kind of definitive-ish,
14:07but life is supposed to be strange, right?
14:09Anyway, this one is about
a murder that happens
14:13She finds that she can traverse
14:15between two different realities.
14:17The murder hasn't happened
in the other reality,
14:20so obviously she wants to save her friend,
14:23and in order to do that,
14:24she's going to have to solve the murder
14:25in one of the realities
14:26and prevent it in the other.
14:28I don't know exactly how
that's all gonna line up,
14:30but I think pretty good plot.
14:31Also, obviously, it looks
as though they've expanded
14:34the purview of what a
"Life Is Strange" game is.
14:37Clearly, it's an adventure game still,
14:39but it looks like there's
a lot more going on.
14:42and I am particularly
happy that they've returned
14:45to the original protagonist.
14:47We also have a release date for it.
14:49It's coming to Xbox Series
and PC on October 29th.
14:56And finally, at number 1,
14:57it's exactly what we all wanted to hear
15:01but never expected to hear
15:02because, I mean, "Gears
5" came out in 2019.
15:06It was supposed to kick off
a big multimedia franchise
15:09and, I mean, we got "Gears
Tactics" a year later,
15:12which is not another "Gears" game.
15:16I don't think a lot of people really know
15:17what the hell is going on
with "Gears" for a while
15:19and this trailer's hype.
15:21takes place 14 years before
the first years of war.
15:25It's called E-Day and it tells the story
15:27of the first Locust emergence on Sera.
15:30Honestly, in every way, it's
probably the right move.
15:33They gave us a little mad world.
15:35It's basically everything you
want from a "Gears" trailer
15:39which, of course, we don't have.
15:41It is just an announcement.
15:42We have absolutely nothing
15:44in terms of when or exactly
how it will come out.
15:47Obviously, it's gonna be a Game Pass game.
15:49It's one of the big Xbox franchises
15:52and we'll see where that goes.
15:54Microsoft finally went ahead and announced
15:57a diskless Xbox Series X.
16:00It's the white edition
of the Xbox Series X.
16:03It will not have an optical storage drive.
16:06It will have a terabyte
of internal storage
16:09and a price of 449.99.
16:12There's also a new edition
of the Xbox Series X
16:16with an optical drive.
16:17That's gonna be launching
for 599.99, so 600 bucks,
16:21and the main feature of it,
16:23aside from the quote,
unquote, "Galaxy Black" color,
16:26but it will apparently be launching
16:28with twice the storage of
any of the other models.
16:32I think this might've
been the right route to go
16:34as opposed to the Xbox Brooklin,
16:37the code name Brooklin thing.
16:38You might've seen some stuff about that,
16:40but it seems like that's
not what they're going with
16:42I think, right choice, honestly.
16:44Xbox needs to avoid confusion
16:46and start really hunkering
down with some consistency
16:49not only in console
design but also in games
16:52and honestly, we got a bunch
16:54of pretty good game announcements.
16:55I think that we got a pretty
fair amount to look forward to.
16:58Honestly, quite a few pretty
damn good announcements,
17:01Definitely didn't feel
like the gaming dark times
