00:18now the first time you open blender this

00:21will probably be the look and feel you

00:23get and also the shortcut keys will be

00:25very unfamiliar especially if you're

00:27using my app before when you're using

00:30Maya for several years you got the

00:32shortcut keys in your fingers it can be

00:34annoying or be quite a steep learning

00:36curve to switch over to the blender

00:38shortcut keys but there's an easy way to

00:41get in there and use the keys that

00:43you're actually used to and we can do

00:45this by going to edit

00:48preferences and then you're going to see

00:50a list of preferences we can change

00:53first of all we like to see the color

00:54scheme of Maya which I like anyway so we

00:58go to teams and then we have a lot of

01:00presets obviously we can set every

01:02individual setting here but in the

01:04presets we're gonna do a whole set of

01:07presets for all these things and luckily

01:11there's a Maya preset so if we click

01:13this there you go we got immediately the

01:16Maya color scheme which is a little bit

01:18more familiar for example when you

01:20select something it's going to be a

01:21green outline instead of an Amber one

01:23and that is already a little bit easier

01:26to understand

01:28okay another thing we can set is the key

01:30map this one is also set to blender

01:33where we click on the preferences we can

01:35see blender we can use blender 2.7x and

01:39the industry compatible now the industry

01:41compatible is

01:43exactly what it says it is what most 3D

01:46programs use and blender is completely

01:48different so when we can set it to

01:50Industry compatible it's going to look a

01:52little bit more the way Maya works now

01:55we have for example this Cube selected

01:58and when we press W for example we can

02:01move it if we press e we can rotate it

02:04if we press R we can scale it and this

02:06is exactly the way Maya works the same

02:10thing for object mode and edit mode if

02:12we press three we're gonna be in edit

02:15mode for faces for press 2 is for edges

02:19and if we press one it's for vertices

02:21and if we press four it's gonna be go

02:23back to object mode these are all small

02:26things that makes your workflow way a

02:29bit quicker when you're used to those

02:31shortcut keys in Maya

02:34and then there's a couple of other

02:36things we can set before we actually

02:38save this preference for example the

02:40default cube is something that always

02:42get loaded and there's a little gag

02:43around the internet that every time you

02:47see a tutorial they delete the default

02:49Cube I find it easier to just get rid of

02:52it and so whenever we start a blender

02:54it's not there anymore so let's delete

02:56it now and then one of the things that I

02:59also always like to set is that the

03:01render engine is by default EV but I

03:05prefer to render in Cycles so I set

03:08Cycles and then we can go to file

03:12defaults and save the startup file once

03:15we do that every setting we have set

03:18will be saved out and the next time we

03:21start a blender it will exactly look the

03:23way it is right now if I close this file

03:27and don't save anything I open blender

03:29up again

03:31you're gonna see it's gonna look exactly

03:33the way I want it and my preference is

03:36going to be exactly cycles and I don't

03:39have the default Cube anymore

03:41okay so that's it for the preferences

03:43and the way you can make blender look a

03:46little bit more like Maya and get going
