00:02hello and welcome back to take refuge 3D
00:05with me Peter and I was fully in my
00:09comfort zone last year when I downloaded
00:12plasticity i' been using blender and
00:14zbrush for years and totally happy with
00:18those two softwares to be honest um so
00:21when I downloaded plasticity I thought
00:23it was going to be one of those
00:24softwares that I download and forget
00:27that I installed and never use again
00:30however it turned out to be one of the
00:31best decisions I made of last year and
00:34let's take a look at why that is we've
00:37got this model of this fan and if we
00:40just turn our uh edges off you'll see
00:44that it is a fairly decent hard surface
00:47model with lots of little uh nooks and
00:50crannies and um details like this uh
00:54pipe and things like that cable um and
00:58it was all put together reasonably
01:00quickly um and a way that I wouldn't
01:03have been able to do it as quickly and
01:05blender so um let's just start a new
01:08file and um we'll have a look at what we
01:11can do in plasticity let's say I just
01:16cylinder okay and we make that and this
01:20stuff obviously you can do a poly
01:22software and then we can bring that out
01:25like that let's just say that we want to
01:28cut into it okay okay
01:31so much like the knife tool and blender
01:34you can use a curve okay and then we can
01:38just totally press the C button and cut
01:41that out now that behavior and a poly
01:44modeling software would not fly so that
01:47is one thing that's really cool let's
01:49just turn our edges back on we want to
01:51keep going so we'll go into top view
01:53we'll make another cut we'll cut down
01:55the middle and we'll just work on one
01:56side so mirroring basically okay let's
02:00just get some little details in here
02:02quickly so we can just quickly do a loop
02:04cut or we can even do contrl R just like
02:08in blender tab hold shift to do multiple
02:12okay so we'll do three so we got three
02:14panels and we might need to do one at a
02:16time sometimes that is the case Okay
02:19sometimes they don't play nice but still
02:21you can see that we're working very
02:22quickly and this is this one here is the
02:26problem um and I don't know why look you
02:29can problem solve these things for this
02:31tutorial I'm not going to do that and
02:33then very quickly we
02:36can come in and we can make a rounded
02:41chamfer like that okay and if we forgot
02:45to do it on all of our things we can
02:47make another rounded chamfer but we want
02:49it to match that one we can just click
02:51that and it matches boom okay so now
02:54we've got a detailed hard surface object
02:58of some uh sort of not notes um we can
03:01also um do the same here okay and as you
03:05can see we're building up these
03:06secondary details very quickly okay um
03:12and then we can mirror it over again and
03:15just press Q to join it together we've
03:17got our object back but what we'll do is
03:19we'll quickly uh I don't know let's just
03:23get a a Center Circle okay bring it in
03:28here and extrude it out pressing B to
03:32make it a new body just in case it wants
03:34to Boolean now you see that's made a
03:37sheet rather than a um a solid but you
03:41can just press alt F and you've got a
03:42solid so you can go from plain to solid
03:45quite quickly and then we can just
03:48um I don't know so we'll take all of
03:50these faces here and we'll rotate
03:57okay and then what we can do we
04:01and make a chamfer like this and then
04:06happens is that that will acknowledge
04:10that curve and the chamfer will go all
04:11the way around so we've worked really
04:13quickly so if we didn't have that
04:14chamfer there it will acknowledge the
04:17hard Edge and you can make that or if it
04:21has got the champer there sorry the
04:23fillet rather it will acknowledge that
04:26that's there everything's trial and
04:28error and you can see I built this up
04:31really quickly um let's just pull this
04:34out a bit fatter let's give it some we
04:37can press alt Z to go into um x-ray mode
04:41so we can choose this face and we can
04:43make this smaller so that our shape is
04:47kind of coming out of there in a funny
04:48way and then we're like oh okay we want
04:51this face to match that one so I believe
04:54if we just press this and then we can
04:56choose our match face down here uh we
04:58can pull that out like that okay we can
05:01just press G and drag that back in there
05:04then we can Boolean these two together
05:07okay and we've got this strange shape in
05:11here um and then you can scale it up if
05:13you want you can move it
05:15around um so if I want to move that down
05:18further I can just pull that across like
05:20that and G and we can move it down like
05:23that and now I've got that hanging out
05:31all righty we've done some modeling this
05:33is all very basic modeling and it's been
05:35very quick to achieve this in a poly
05:37moding software um would have taken
05:39quite a lot longer than what we've just
05:41uh spent doing this let's say we want to
05:49so maybe this is a jet engine or or
05:52something like that so we'll pull this
05:54in like that all the way
05:57through okay and we got our crazy crazy
06:00shape coming up here all right so we're
06:03getting some really like Spacey kind of
06:05jet engine thing and then it might have
06:07the um blades or something in here for
06:11some kind of fan and we want to pull
06:21it and then we can just rotate it around
06:24the center like that and boom we've got
06:28something kind of complicated
06:30um maybe there's some crazy cables that
06:32need to help this operate some fuel
06:35cables or something like that so we
06:37could um get a circle on
06:50down and then we can press we can choose
06:54four we can go control shift C choose
06:57that and control shift V and paste it
07:00anywhere else we like and it'll adhere
07:03to the surface okay and then we can
07:08curve and we can mess around with
07:18so and then we can subdivide it we can
07:21pull this down if we like make it hang a
07:24lower all right and then we just need to
07:27click p on that and we've got a
07:44pipe and very quickly we've built up
07:48a uh a hard surface model and then all
07:51we need to do is take it into blender
07:55plugin there we've got it in blender we
07:58can see it in a different mat cap and
07:59then you can do all sorts of things from
08:01here you could um whatever you like
08:07so really this is why plasticity is so
08:09cool for me because as you can see in
08:12about 10 minutes I've made some kind of
08:14object I wasn't even planning on what I
08:16was going to make and it it just it just
08:18looks really really cool and I haven't
08:21put much effort into it at all and
08:23plasticity just totally plasticity is
08:26just totally amazing for when it comes
08:28to this kind of stuff thanks a lot guys
