00:05this camera so i could do some uh
00:06dynamic range tests between the r5c yeah
00:09i basically did this test because rfic
00:10is my workhorse i use it for all my gigs
00:12all the exposure tools and the cinema
00:14menus like is so clutch for run and gun
00:16type gig so i have to get stuck on but i
00:18want to start doing more personal work
00:20i'm part native american and i'm very
00:21passionate about it so i want to start
00:23documenting uh some stuff based on that
00:25so stay tuned for all that but anyways
00:27if i'm going to be shooting stuff that
00:28i'm passionate about versus just like
00:30client work i want a camera that i'm
00:33passionate about and i freaking love the
00:34fujifilm system so i'm contemplating the
00:37xh2 xh2s or the gfx100s maybe all of it
00:41i'm not trying to spend 20 thousand
00:42dollars right now so uh i want to test
00:44the dynamic range and i'm assuming a lot
00:46of you guys are wanting the same thing
00:47with the r5c so let's jump into it all
00:50the xh2s clips were filmed in opengate
00:53but i will go in and i will crop just so
00:56they're a little bit more even and
00:57prores lt and then i did the canon xf
01:00avc and then the canon raw so let's just
01:03jump into this now i'm using
01:05manufacturer's log converters and then
01:07i'm going i'm stretching the footage so
01:08this footage is supposed to look
01:09horrible because i want to stretch it
01:11and boost some saturation into it just
01:13to see when the footage will start
01:15breaking and how much info you can get
01:17out of it the more you stretch it the
01:19worse it's going to look but again i'm
01:21just seeing how much data is in there so
01:23let's start with this this is going to
01:24be the most drastic clip that's going to
01:26show the difference so you see right
01:28here we have the fuji xh2s i'm going to
01:31swipe that is a canon r5c and xfavc you
01:35can see there's a giant difference
01:37there's like i don't know i want to say
01:39that's like two stops at least that
01:41we're getting more on the fuji uh also
01:44real quick a little tidbit on how i
01:45expose these i set the zebra settings
01:47equivalent to whatever log i was
01:48shooting in uh so you can see the cloud
01:50appears peaking and then the sky is not
01:53and i want to go the fuji clip the
01:54cloud's peaking just as much and the sky
01:56is not so all these cameras were exposed
01:58pretty well that's usually how i expose
02:00i expose for the highlights and i bring
02:01up the mids and shadows and posts also
02:03if you're shooting indoors you have to
02:05blow out your highlights sometimes so
02:06but yeah i'm using noise reduction too
02:08because that's how you get more data out
02:10of your footage use noise reduction and
02:12it lets you stretch it gives you more
02:13color info down low uh it's it's pretty
02:16clutch so you see my jeans the red in
02:19the shirt my skin tones like everything
02:21there's more color info on the xh2s
02:24then we go the xf abc on the camera 5c
02:26it's just all that's gone but then if we
02:28go to the canon raw you see in canon raw
02:32it holds up a lot better i want to say
02:34it's kind of it's almost equal i'm gonna
02:36say with the xh2s the exposures are
02:39continuously brighter in the mids like
02:41the the gray point is higher so i think
02:43that lets you like bring it down more
02:45and like let you save more highlights
02:46and that's what's going on here but you
02:48can see in the raw we can see the blue
02:50and the jeans the red in the shirt looks
02:52a lot better um very similar to the fuji
02:55i'm not trying to match the colors up or
02:56anything like that so ignore the white
02:58balance let's go to our next clips the
03:00outdoor clips you see once you get
03:03we're not having to stress the dynamic
03:04range as much so you're not going to see
03:05as big of a difference but there's still
03:08a little bit of a difference let me just
03:09screenshot this so you see the brighter
03:11ones the fuji and then here's the xf avc
03:14you can see we're losing more deep color
03:16details in there but once again i can go
03:18in to the canon clip and i will lift the
03:21shadows up even more you can see there's
03:24still a lot more info on the rfic and xf
03:25abc that you could stretch but still i'm
03:28going to punch in here just so you guys
03:29can see this i'm at 200 percent
03:31this is the fuji you can see we're still
03:33getting a lot of color details here in
03:36i am using an older lens i'm using the
03:3823 1.4 the old one uh versus an rf 2470
03:43which that lens is pretty much all the
03:45rf classes like on gfx level uh glass so
03:48um there's a big difference in that so
03:50don't pay attention again this is about
03:51color depth and uh dynamic range see
03:54with the rfic and xf50c you're gonna
03:56have to stretch the footage a lot more
03:57and pump in more saturation to get a
04:01it's close but as you saw from the
04:03indoor shots there's still pretty
04:05freaking big difference so
04:07but let me go to the raw clip here you
04:09see once again in the in the canon shot
04:11the gray point the middle point is a lot
04:14deeper it's a lot lower now this last
04:16clip here i just want to involve some
04:19outdoors there we go this is the canon
04:22that's the fuji you see once again the
04:23fuji has a little bit more saturation to
04:25it and the canon looks a little bit more
04:26natural i want to say but they look
04:28pretty freaking similar let's zoom into
04:29my hair right here because this is the
04:31most hard contrasting point so again
04:33this is the fuji you can see like the
04:35different colors of my hair some brown
04:37and then let's sweep to the canons again
04:40this is the ak raw see it looks pretty
04:42similar i did correct the black points
04:44and so i wouldn't pay attention too much
04:46to how this is looks brighter this is
04:48all clipped blacks here uh you can see
04:50little bits of strands in there i don't
04:51even know if you can see that on youtube
04:53and it's the same thing on the fuji but
04:54uh i just clipped the blocks uh and
04:56posts a little bit more so guys that's
04:58pretty much it uh this is pretty wild
05:00that the fujifilm xh2s like its dynamic
05:02range i want to say it's either
05:05at the same level as the rfic raw or
05:07maybe a little bit better i feel like
05:09that that's wrong i don't know it's
05:10pretty well i mean from what i'm seeing
05:12it does a little bit better which is
05:14insane also when you shoot raw you get a
05:15lot more color depth in it um just
05:18everything looks a little bit more uh
05:20it's it's soothes into each other a
05:22little bit better if that makes sense um
05:25so if like fuji was to give us internal
05:27raw like this thing is going to be a
05:28powerhouse camera now if you guys are
05:30wondering if i'm going to get rid of my
05:31canon gear currently no this
05:34r5c is a workhorse when it comes to
05:37video gigs the fact that it has the
05:39cinema menus and i have false color uh
05:41anamorphic d squeeze inside shutter
05:43angle just like all of that just makes
05:45life so much more easier when you're
05:47shooting running gun video work so until
05:48the day that fuji gives us all of that
05:50i'm stuck with this guy uh it's a great
05:54this does just as well so i'm definitely
05:56going to switch out my r5 i'm going to
05:58sell my r5 r5c get a fuji camera i want
06:01the gfx too so yeah i'm just again i'm
06:04not trying to spend 20
06:05uh but yeah fuji if you wanna hook it up
06:09let's do this anyways i'm rumbling on
