00:13to apply for jobs right now and um the
00:16thing is is that the only person I have
00:19responding to me is a man from a tech um
00:21from a tech company saying hey you want
00:23to answer some customer service
00:25problems you want to answer some
00:27customer service calls welcome welcome
00:31everyone my name is Sean and today I
00:33want to talk about something that is
00:34quite troubling that is going on across
00:36the United States of America it's been
00:37happening for a long time considering
00:40the degree inflation that we've seen now
00:42that everybody believes that they want
00:44to go to college and that is this report
00:46from News 6 about how college graduates
00:49are finding it more and more difficult
00:53postgraduation despite the fact that
00:55they're being told constantly that the
00:57economy is booming look at the
00:59unemployment rate the fact of the matter
01:01is a lot of them got degrees and skills
01:04that are not viable for the economy and
01:06it's quite troubling now we're going to
01:07get into this but before we do I want to
01:09thank everybody who signed up over an

01:19right in the middle of college
01:20graduation season and there's one very
01:22important question on most new grads
01:23Minds how does the job market look
01:26recent study indicates it might be
01:27getting a little harder so like this
01:29local news report leads off a recent
01:31study shows that it's becoming more and
01:32more difficult for recent college
01:34graduates to enter the job market
01:36they're not finding the jobs that they
01:37want however I do need to give a couple
01:39of caveats when I'm discussing this
01:41because there's a lot of people who
01:43aren't entirely honest or maybe they're
01:45not being dishonest but they don't
01:47understand the numbers in the way that
01:49they should so first and foremost if you
01:51are successful in the United States of
01:53America then likely you are holding a
01:56college degree it's just a fact in terms
01:59of the numbers talking about the on
02:00averages and whatnot however what people
02:03tend to misunderstand about those
02:05numbers about those things is that the
02:08college degree is more of an effect of
02:10being a successful intelligent driven
02:13person rather than the cause of
02:15somebody's actual success this is
02:17something that we've gotten wrong a lot
02:19in the United States of America and
02:21you'll often hear people cite different
02:23amazingly intelligent people that
02:25dropped out of college as examples of
02:28people who didn't need to go to college
02:30in order to be successful and yes while
02:32that is true you need to understand that
02:34there's a reason they were in those ivy
02:36league institutions in the first place
02:38of course I'm talking about Zuckerberg
02:40Bill Gates all these different other
02:42various people these people were so high
02:44on the success Spectrum in terms of
02:46their intelligence business acument or
02:48innovation ability that they didn't need
02:50to go to university and they found it to
02:53be less productive for them to finish
02:55University even if they were already
02:57attending it so the success was due to
03:00the people that were selected for
03:02University and we tended to treat in
03:04terms of American society College as the
03:07cause rather than the effect I hope
03:10that's understood pretty well by
03:11everybody out there in the audience so
03:13we do have grade inflation we do have
03:15degree inflation but most of this is
03:18because we have people that would not
03:20have normally gone to college in the
03:22first place and they're not going for
03:24degrees that are viable in the economy
03:26so they're not getting a result that
03:28they expected but that expectation was
03:30not based on reality our Bella kakas on

03:34landscape of hiring for these new degree
03:37holders ban n had never been to Nebraska
03:40before College I literally just came out
03:42here took a total leap of faith he's
03:43from Hawaii his dad has a background in
03:46trade work but nce has a knack for
03:48finance literally every single day is
03:50different we're always reacting to the
03:51market learning about new companies new
03:53Industries the past four years he's been
03:55building a resume looking for full-time
03:57roles maybe like a year and a half out
03:59so they start off interviewing a student
04:00who by the way leads this trend to seem
04:03even more troubling than what I
04:05described earlier because this is a
04:07finance Guy this is a guy who went to
04:09school for finance an applicable skill
04:11in the economy a math skill a skill that
04:14you have to have high IQ in order to
04:16engage with and even he has to pad his
04:19resume and do all these different
04:21various things and he's struggling to
04:23find work now they go on to get into a
04:25little bit of the numbers and I'm going
04:27to explain to you that while they sound
04:29kind of small and like they're no big
04:30deal how they're actually quite dramatic
04:33according to the latest report by the
04:35National Association of colleges and
04:36employers it's taking longer for
04:38graduates to find a job from 5 and 1/2
04:41months last year to 6 months this year
04:44so in terms of the numbers they don't
04:45sound all that major all that serious
04:48because it just sounds like 15 days they
04:50say it used to take the average college
04:52graduate 5 and A2 months in order to
04:54find a job but now it's taking them 6
04:57months according to these forecasts for
04:59the class of 2024 and again you could
05:02forgive yourself for not thinking that
05:04that's a big deal but the thing is most
05:07people aren't the average most people
05:08with the high-end talented professions
05:11already have a job lined up for them by
05:13the time that they graduate in fact if
05:15you're going to school at a good law
05:17school normally you have a summer
05:19associate position normally you have an
05:21offer even before you complete the bar
05:23so when you graduate you actually start
05:24working there and then when you complete
05:27the bar you end up in a situation where
05:29you join airm as an attorney again and
05:31that's zero downtime except for the time
05:34that you took to take the bar so a lot
05:36of these people in these high-end
05:37careers typically on average usually
05:40would get jobs even before they graduate
05:43so what's actually ending up happening
05:45is not the average is being moved but
05:47those people who are further down on the
05:50line that take longer to find a job Post
05:52University are getting push back even
05:54more dramatically because what you have
05:56to think about is that in order for that
05:585 and2 months to be extended 15 days in
06:01order to be 6 months on average when you
06:03have tens of thousands of students
06:05graduating from University in any given
06:07year that means that a lot of people
06:09that were already far down on the
06:11Spectrum are being pushed even further
06:14in terms of when they can find
06:15employment and are not being hired in
06:18their field at all whatsoever and that's
06:20making things more and more difficult
06:22and that is what is skewing the average
06:24so what you're seeing right here is that
06:26a lot of good paying positions might
06:27even be a little bit delayed they might
06:29be still getting hired but it's just a
06:31little bit later but a lot of those
06:33Fringe degrees that were're already to
06:35find work after getting are being
06:37extended far more dramatically and
06:39that's what ends up occurring on that
06:41range and that's why we have an
06:42extension and some of these students are
06:45not ever finding work and in fact we
06:47have some numbers on the decline in that
06:49according to that same study it's also
06:51expected hiring for the class of 20124
06:54to drop by nearly 2% so yeah we're
06:56expecting about a 2% drop in the total
06:59number of people that are hired from the
07:01University and remember we weren't at
07:02100% before but again that's among tens
07:05of thousands of people tens of thousands
07:07of students that went to University for
07:09four to six years took on debt in order
07:11to cover their tuition that are no
07:13longer going to be hired even at the 6
07:16months even beyond that based on the
07:18current conditions of the economy and
07:20this is why we're all told that the
07:22economy advantages labor this is while
07:24we're seeing signs in a bunch of
07:26different places that didn't pass a
07:27minimum wage promising escalated wages
07:30even for jobs that didn't pay all that
07:32well like fast food due to the labor
07:35crunch in a tough tight job market it it
07:37really is little things that stand out
07:38according to the senior director of
07:40kraton's career center new graduates are
07:42looking for jobs that typically require
07:44a college degree corporate to nonprofit
07:46to healthcare to uh government
07:48organizations those jobs are just
07:49getting more competitive at major
07:51companies like Google Amazon and UPS
07:55they've announced scaling back on hiring
07:57it might not be first job out of college
07:59but maybe that's that second or third
08:00destination after college now you know
08:01it's bad when the career development guy
08:03from the university is trying to soften
08:05the blow for the students and he has to
08:07say very dumb things that should be
08:10obvious to everyone like people
08:12graduating from University typically
08:14will look for jobs where a University
08:16degree is part of the qualifications for
08:18said job and if you're not doing this if
08:21you're not getting a degree that's going
08:22to help you in your job search then yeah
08:25a good chance you are wasting your time
08:27not in all cases but definitely that is
08:30a huge problem and the fact of the
08:32matter is you have all these different
08:34various companies scaling back on their
08:35hiring and there's a bunch of different
08:37factors that play into it first and
08:39foremost we have the issues of inflation
08:42we have the issues which is the response
08:44to inflation of the interest rates
08:46Rising so a lot of these companies rely
08:48on credit and money is just more and
08:51more expensive so they've had to scale
08:53back hiring in response to current
08:55economic conditions due to the fact that
08:58we had so much crazy Co spending and
09:00this is why we're in this weird
09:01situation where the unemployment rate is
09:04definitely low however you have all
09:07these different companies that are not
09:08hiring they're becoming more stringent
09:10in their hiring and a lot of them are
09:12pulling back on the benefits that they
09:14used to offer all these different
09:15employees which is honestly pretty
09:17terrible if you went to school for a
09:19good degree like you went for computer
09:21engineering and whatnot and you thought
09:22you were going to work in a company like
09:24Google or Facebook or whatever and
09:26they're just not hiring even those
09:29people who actually deal with the
09:30company deal with the product not the
09:32diversity woke Dei hires that work in HR
09:35and all these other various things in
09:37order to pad their numbers and it's
09:39honestly quite sad now they do have a
09:41student who says something that I do
09:42believe to be true but again even this
09:45is a bit troubling ultimately n believes
09:47it's networking that's allowed him to
09:49secure a job right here in Omaha the
09:51thing about education is it's definitely
09:53an investment now look this is a finance
09:54kid according to the local news for all
09:56we know he could be terrible at Finance
09:58the local news not L the most honest
10:00institution in the world although we
10:02rely on them heavily and we do
10:03appreciate them and he says look it's
10:05about networking that's how he was able
10:07to secure the job and he always viewed
10:09his degree as an investment and this is
10:11a good way to view it but another thing
10:13that I will point out that I don't like
10:15about this particular individual however
10:17again it's not anything personal against
10:19him is that he went to Nebraska for
10:21University and there is a chance that he
10:24could have got his degree in state at a
10:26state school and thus it would have been
10:28less expensive ensive for him to do so
10:30now maybe his university has a finance
10:32program so we'll just say we don't know
10:34in that moment but if you have kids and
10:36you're thinking about sending them to
10:38college I highly recommend a much
10:40cheaper state school for most degrees
10:43the overwhelming majority of them where
10:45you can pay instate tuition and having
10:47your kid commute to University now you
10:50might lose out on certain advantages
10:52like abroader Network and whatnot but
10:54your cost your investment in the
10:56University will be much less typically
11:00and that should help you I'm somebody
11:01who did this myself I went to a
11:03community college transferred to a
11:05four-year College got my degree only
11:07took on $2,000 worth of debt and that
11:09was because I was tired of taking
11:11semesters off in order to work enough to
11:14save up the amount for tuition for the
11:16next semester my last year I just wanted
11:17to graduate cleanly and honestly the
11:20fact that I had so little student loan
11:21debt is probably what allowed me to
11:24actually start this YouTube channel
11:27because I didn't have all these
11:28different various loans that were
11:29unmanageable that were going to force me
11:31into a job that I didn't like so I
11:33definitely recommend it on top of that
11:35the fact that the class cost was not
11:38super expensive for me is probably one
11:40of the reasons that I decided to forego
11:42getting my masters and my bachelor at
11:44the same time and use one of my
11:46electives for video production courses
11:48the one course that had practical
11:50application for me that basically is
11:53related to how I've made all of my money
11:55post College which was learning to edit
11:58really and ended up creating a huge
12:00portion of this channel so look I'm not
12:02knocking University blanketly I
12:05understand that there's wokeism and
12:06there's all these other issues that go
12:08on in terms of politics but just down to
12:11Brass tax what we actually have to worry
12:13about what we actually have to be
12:14concerned about in terms of finances
12:16what regular people worry about instate
12:19is the way to go State schools are the
12:21way to go in most cases now again
12:23special programs scholarships all these
12:26other different things that could change
12:28the math for you might change that
12:30equation but the fact of the matter is
12:32for most degrees the overwhelming
12:34majority of them you don't have to go
12:36into as much debt in order to get them
12:39and this even applies to practical
12:41degrees like nursing and all other kinds
12:43of things that will actually generate
12:45you a real income postgraduation so yeah
12:49while this definitely is a bad Outlook
12:51and a rude awakening for a lot of
12:53different children and parents who ended
12:55up going to the university that they
12:57thought would be the most fun that had
12:59the biggest water park to study
13:01sociology or whatever in reality and
13:04actuality As Long as You Follow the
13:05basic principles and are thoughtful
13:07about where you enroll how much you're
13:09borrowing and what you're realistically
13:11going to get with that degree when you
13:12graduate you could still make University
13:14workout for you and yes I do love and
13:17appreciate the trades and I will say if
13:19you're going to go out and get a degree
13:21in worthlessness if you're going to go
13:23to college in order to find yourself if
13:25you think attending University is going
13:27to get you a job quickly with with
13:29applicable skills then no that's not the
13:31case and maybe you should consider the
13:33trades maybe you should consider a good
13:35career often times with union benefits
13:37or at least good benefits that will have
13:40you working with your hands that is
13:41satisfying and honorable work despite
13:44what the mainstream media will portray
13:46it to be but hey you know what those are
