00:19i'm gonna talk about heat isolation

00:22how you can wrap the exhaust uh there's

00:26a few different methods out there

00:28i used a few over the past few years

00:32some are

00:34better than others and some are

00:36obviously more expensive than others so

00:39let's start with the most obvious one

00:43the wrap i did for the exhaust to

00:46protect the rear differential

00:50it's just a heat wrap i just show you a

00:53few pictures of

00:54that video

01:14in the darkness for 40 days

01:19nothing too complicated it's just a very

01:22thick wrap you can put around things

01:25mostly hot things like exhausts for

01:28example and it keeps the heat in the

01:31exhaust

01:33that's

01:34it's also used for

01:36headers as well

01:39um i used it in

01:41at headers as well um but i'm not a big

01:45fan of this because when it gets really

01:48hot like

01:49before a turbo like headers get

01:54and they get really hot they get glowing

01:56hot it's they just don't live that long

01:59it's just not gonna last very long so

02:02that's one of the reasons i'm not a big

02:04fan of this

02:07and

02:08so we used another method after i think

02:12at the first year with the evo we used

02:16rep for the header and we changed that

02:19twice in the same year

02:42because it just i don't know brittles

02:45away

02:46it gets very stiff and yeah brittles

02:48away

02:49when it gets hot over time

02:53so it's not the ideal solution for

02:56headers for example or

02:57maybe in my opinion not even downpipes

02:59because they just are too close to the

03:02turbo and get too hot so i wouldn't

03:06suggest that

03:08for headers and downpipes there are much

03:10better solutions and

03:42the same

03:43as or

03:45the same procedure and the same material

03:48as the hjs downpipe uses

03:53it's

03:54also very common in motorsport

03:57like

03:58f1 dtm etc um i don't know if f1

04:01actually still uses this

04:03but most gt3 teams use something like

04:07this or most gt3 cars our exhausts are

04:10isolated with something like this even

04:14modern supercars are using this

04:18because it just

04:20it works very well

04:22so

04:23we're in luck because there's a

04:26little bit of unwelded

04:28stuff around here so i can show you what

04:31it's it looks like

04:33as you i hope you can see it

04:36right here

04:38the white fabric

04:40it's just a heat isolation mat

04:45that you put around

04:46the the

04:48exhaust or whatever you want to isolate

04:51and then it gets this

04:55foil around it and it gets welded as you

04:58can see

04:59a lot of welds

05:01so that is welded to the exhaust the

05:04difference between non-iso isolated and

05:07isolated is huge i'm gonna show you a

05:10quick

05:11video i made with the evo

05:13where we isolated the header and i just

05:16measured on a dyno run the difference

05:18between isolated part and non-isolated

05:21part and the difference is huge

05:35so what we've done with the gr year is

05:38um the hjs downpipe is already isolated

05:41like that and because we're running on

05:43the racetrack

05:46this downpipe

05:49without a cat or anything from garrosh

05:52with bits

05:54i decided i need some wrap so i got it

05:58isolated as well

06:00and what i also did was this part

06:03that's the lower part from the downpipe

06:06to the

06:07opf gpf the ones that have it this one

06:10has not it's just one big pipe

06:16with a silencer obviously

06:20the second part of the exhaust uh the

06:23the one around the rear differential it

06:26would be perfect to isolate it like this

06:28as well

06:30but it's i said before it's not very

06:32cheap so i used the wrap like before

06:36like with the oam exhaust but

06:39i did something a little bit different

06:41this time

06:44and i used this to protect it a little

06:46bit this should seal the wrap a little

06:49bit and help it get more resistant

06:52against chemicals or oil or

06:54wear or whatever and so i sprayed the

06:59whole rear part of the exhaust i wrapped

07:03with this

07:04and hopefully

07:06it lasts a little bit longer and it also

07:09helps to isolate the exhaust even more

07:12it's also heat resistant to i think it's

07:15a thousand

07:16a thousand one hundred degrees

07:19celsius

07:20fahrenheit is a little bit more so

07:22that's basically what we did to isolate

07:26the exhaust there's a few more options

07:29available like coating

07:32i've never done that

07:33i'm not sure if that's a really good

07:36option to

07:38coat

07:39exhausts

07:40i honestly have no i have no idea

07:42i know a few people who did it and

07:45yeah i never heard anyone complain but

07:48i'm

07:49pretty sure a very thin

07:52coat

07:53isn't

07:54oh or won't be as good as something like

07:59this

08:02and

08:03these last nearly for a lifetime so as

08:05long as you have the car this will last

08:09very long

08:10so i'm gonna show you how i wrapped the

08:12exhaust and

08:14spray painted it i just show you the

08:16finished result i forgot to let the

08:19camera run while i was doing it but

08:21you've already seen it if not just check

08:23the video where i

08:25isolated the exhaust this time it's just

08:28with a coat of

08:30paint

08:32so i'm gonna show it to you right now

08:43and

08:44this is how it looks i obviously

08:47obviously not painted the bolts and

08:50stuff and

08:52not all of the fabric but

08:55you get the idea

08:57that was just also up here i just yeah

09:00it's not perfect but it will work

09:03and

09:04it will just protect the exhaust a

09:06little bit more

09:08and also protect obviously the rear

09:11differential

09:12and

09:13isolating that big part would have been

09:17pretty expensive so i just did that

09:21i haven't isolated this part because

09:23that's not near anything critical and i

09:26don't care how hot it gets

09:28in there so i just isolated the parts

09:31that

09:32i think are necessary that's

09:35the down pipe the lower part of the

09:37downpipe and the part around the rear

09:40differential

09:42and yeah that's basically what i did if
