00:14episode on today's episode i get to help
00:18release a brand new mxr pedal into the
00:21world it's never been seen really i mean
00:24a few people have seen it but it's brand
00:26new and it's in this box
00:43i have had the privilege of releasing a
00:45lot of really cool pedals for friends
00:47and different companies in this industry
00:49and this is going to be a really fun one
00:51to show you it is the mxr poly blue
00:56i'm going to go over the feature set in
00:57just a second we're gonna jam on it but
00:59basically what you need to know
01:01is it's very very cool and it offers
01:04people who love octaves up and down
01:07and all the features that surround that
01:10type of tone and player a lot of things
01:12in a small package so what i instantly
01:15think of with this pedal is
01:16if you love the pog or the micropog
01:21really jazzed up then you have the
01:24ability to do one of my favorite sounds
01:27the nice octaves within the whammy i
01:29love the octave up settings and i feel
01:31like this does that well and then inside
01:33of this we have a fuzz switch which
01:35we'll go over it is a blue box style
01:38fuzz so you end up with that amazing
01:40fuzz pedal in here with the octaves down
01:43two octaves down or up it's really
01:45incredible and the design team here at
01:47mxr they're really brilliant they've
01:50done things in the dsp world like the
01:52reverb that so many people are familiar
01:55kind of heading over that is george
01:57tripps of way huge you saw us release
02:01and you're familiar with classics like
02:03the green rhino so all that said let's
02:05jump into the features so we can play
02:07some music so you're not bored i don't
02:09want you to be bored we have six control
02:12knobs and two buttons first though in an
02:15out jack and then you have an expression
02:17jack so the expression jack can be used
02:19in two ways you can use an expression
02:21pedal i have the dunlop x8 here i'll
02:24explain how to use that when i use it in
02:26a jam and then you can also use any tap
02:29tempo foot switch and that will activate
02:32the fuzz so that's really cool but let's
02:35go through these controls in order we
02:37have dry so this is the amount of clean
02:41unaffected signal you're mixing in with
02:43all the octaves and all that stuff
02:45then we have sub one sub one is one
02:49octave below the note you're playing and
02:51when you turn that up you are mixing
02:53that in think of every control as a
02:56mixer fader so if i don't want sub 1 i
03:00just turn it to 0 and that is the off
03:02switch that's how that works sub two is
03:04two octaves below so that's
03:06real thick like chunky chunky octave
03:10then we have mod so mod is actually
03:15that is really cool and you can just
03:18activate it again however much you want
03:20put it in there if you don't want it
03:21turn it off if you turn all the other
03:23controls down you can just use the
03:25phaser alone that's pretty cool octave
03:28plus one is one octave above so
03:33one octave up mix it in like you want
03:35two octave up is two octaves up you get
03:37the idea so yeah use the knobs like a
03:39mixer put how much you want in and then
03:41move on and you have a fuzz push button
03:45i'm about to use with this it's exciting
03:48when you activate that you get the blue
03:50box sound and then you have a mono
03:52button the mono button removes the
03:55polyphonic ability of the pedal
03:58polyphonic means when i have this pedal
04:01on i can strum multiple notes i can
04:03strum a chord and it will read it really
04:05well and move it all up when you go to
04:07mono though it needs it wants
04:10it wants more than it needs one note
04:13so think synthesizer lines things like
04:15that but by all means play more than one
04:18note freak it out it'll gargle and make
04:20crazy noises and it's really fun
04:22i think we should jam i'm gonna use the
04:24mono mode because i want to start off a
04:27little crazy i want to get out of the
04:28box i wouldn't normally do that so for
04:30you i'm going to just jump right into
04:32this mono thing do something crazy i'm
04:34going to turn all the octaves up i want
04:37sub down 1 sub down 2 octave up 1 octave
04:43and i'm gonna activate the fuzz
04:45with this for a solo and today i'm gonna
04:48use mxr pedals because they're awesome
04:50i'm gonna have a carbon copy delay that
04:52i turn on for a nice kind of ambient in
04:56the rhythm though hitting with the drums
04:59and i'm gonna have the sugar drive the
05:01sugar drive is a clone but nobody wants
05:03to accept the fact that it sounds
05:05amazing and you should buy one i'm gonna
05:07use it all day today i'm gonna drive you
05:08crazy with it let's do it
05:13it has diodes that work
05:15it has extra ones it has the it sounds
05:17just like a con has diodes in it
07:05i love the carbon copy letting it run
07:08nick did you like the caramel cubby i
07:09loved it and you know you know what i
07:13we've never shown the bass player we've
07:15never shown addison he kind of earns
07:17this i guess we can take it away at any
07:19moment though any moment in any moment
07:21addison you did pretty good on camera
07:25but you can lose that you make one wrong
07:33i'm not at all gonna
07:35play around with the my iron lung thing
07:38because that'd be cheesy
07:40i'm not at all gonna do like the full
07:42octave up toe down thing that i've done
07:44for 25 years i am gonna do that i'm
07:47being sarcastic so we're gonna do that
07:48i'm gonna add the octave two
07:50and i'm gonna use this
07:53without a lot of the frills i'm just
07:55gonna let it do the octave up one and
07:59and i'm going to combine it with the
08:00plate reverb on here like a dark
08:04like if plate reverb was like attached
08:08like an alien giant lord ship and as it
08:12blasts forward the plate is somehow you
08:15get it and then i'm gonna use the sugar
08:17drive did i mention the sugar drive is
08:18literally like a really accurate clown
08:20thing that nobody seems to care about
08:22that bothers me and i just don't
08:23understand why it doesn't get enough
08:24attention have i meant if i mentioned
08:26that i mentioned it i did okay so let's
10:02that's a good jam nick uh your
10:04your snare is a little chunky is that
10:07like a kick drum do you have are you
10:08using an octave down no no no no i'm
10:11using a black beauty
10:14it's a it's a built real thick boy
10:16i can't tell if it's the kick or the
10:18snare hitting and it's throwing me off
10:21i liked your old snares the old snare
10:24was like hey it's a snare this is like i
10:27i'm sorry you feel that okay why don't
10:33okay this next jam i'm gonna use the
10:35expression pedal feature
10:38and it's super cool it's super easy and
10:41and yeah it's so easy nick can do this
10:48you plug it in right there's a check
10:52now here's the thing a lot of times with
10:54expressions and presets you gotta hold
10:57buttons you got dip switches you gotta
10:59sync it with your cell phone you gotta
11:01pray to it there's like weird stuff that
11:03happens none of that look
11:09i'm just gonna set it where i want it so
11:11in this jam heeled down is simply gonna
11:14be the sub octave that's all i'm putting
11:22now watch this really complicated i'm
11:24gonna turn on some of that rotary phaser
11:27and i'm going to turn both the octaves
11:30i just set the presets wow
11:33so we're going to do a jam i'm going to
11:35start with the hill down we even mounted
11:37a camera to the ceiling it's kind of
11:40rigged it might fall on my head i don't
11:41know if i'll survive this but we'll see
11:44i'm going to use some spring reverb from
11:46the mxr reverb fantastic spring
11:48it even has the drip and then i'm going
11:50to use the sugar drive have i mentioned
11:52the sugar drive is a clone it's a really
11:54affordable uh easy to find clone that
11:59really perfect but it doesn't get a lot
12:01of attention i don't understand have i
12:04mentioned that today
13:07hopefully you could see me moving this
13:09pretty cool super simple intuitive
13:12does what it's supposed to do
13:14uh and i i forgot i was that good at
13:16jazz honestly i forgot we were that
13:19we're a good band i was impressed we're
13:21a good band i have a oh my phone's
13:23ringing hold on hello bradford marcellus
13:25yeah we'll we'll turn with you his
13:27name's actually branford marsalis josh
13:38this last and final riff uh we're we're
13:41going to go for a style of music a genre
13:47that this pedal was made for i had a
13:50conversation with george about why they
13:52designed this and they designed it to
13:55the feelings of vampires and this is
13:59vampire and themic rock
14:04and that's where we're going with this
14:06if you want that sound number one reason
14:08to buy this pedal i'm going to lean
14:10heavily on the fuzz sound i'm turning
14:1450 of four octaves means you have 200
14:21it's 50 times 4 200 anybody
14:24it's fine vampire riffrock coming at you
14:28strong you're not ready for this you've
14:29never heard anything like it i'm gonna
14:31have the mod on it sounds just like a
14:36in the woods when it's raining while a
14:38vampire is sucking the blood out of a
14:40victim it's dark there's bats there's
14:44wolves you can hear the wolves wait you
16:07it's been really fun uh debuting and
16:10releasing this brand new mxr pedal out
16:12into the world it's a real honor to help
16:14our friends out there i love what mxr is
16:16doing i love the stuff that they're
16:19coming out with i love everything that
16:21george works on so this is really really
16:24at 199 it's an incredible pedal it's a
16:28versatile multi-effect thing with the
16:30rotary the phasing the fuzz the
16:33expression options the tap tempo turn
16:36the fuzz on option four octaves all
16:38you'll ever need so it's super cool
16:40honestly it's probably too much for most
16:43of you because you're not even good at
