00:06episode of pan the organizer so today
00:09i'm talking about glass coatings on your
00:11windshield also known as glass sealants
00:13so they basically are protectants that
00:15help to increase visibility and clarity
00:17when you're driving in the rain because
00:19they help to repel water now on dry days
00:22they help to repel dust and dirt and
00:24they can also make the cleaning of bug
00:26guts a lot easier and during the winter
00:28months they help to reduce the buildup
00:30of frost and ice now the ones we're
00:32focusing on today is from soft 99 a
00:35japanese company that has the very
00:37popular glaco range of glass coatings so
00:41they're specifically formulated for your
00:43glass and basically soft 99 was
00:45approached by the national japanese
00:48airlines to help produce a coating for
00:50the windshields of the airplanes to help
00:53increase the visibility of course and
00:55repel water for the pilots especially
00:58during the monsoon seasons in asia
01:00it was important when they're doing the
01:02visual type of approaches to help the
01:04water repel off the windshields and not
01:06only increase visibility but security as
01:08and the products work so well that they
01:10decided to make them available or the
01:12technology available to the civilians as
01:14well for their own vehicles and hence in
01:171991 the glacko range of products were
01:20introduced and they've been quite the
01:22success over 125 million sold
01:25worldwide so 125 million units they're
01:28very easy to apply and they perform
01:30extremely well by the way i want to
01:32thank soft 99 for sponsoring this video

01:36going to give you a demonstration of the
01:37products give you all the tips and
01:39tricks for the application
01:40and don't worry guys as usual i'm gonna

01:47have to do is sit back relax and enjoy
01:49the show so if you guys have been
01:50watching my channel by the way soft 99
01:53are known for their fuso coat so this is
01:56a fluoropolymer based uh pain sealant
01:59and paste form and it can last anywhere
02:01from nine ten plus months all the way up
02:04to a year or more so in my testing
02:06including the harsh canadian winters i
02:08easily get 9 to 10 months out of this go
02:10check out my video review and
02:11application tutorial if you want to
02:13check it out but many viewers living in
02:15kinder or more gentle climates have
02:18reported over 12 months of protection
02:20from this so absolutely insane
02:22and they took a bit of that technology
02:25that in the first coating that we're
02:27talking about today for glass this is
02:29the ultra glaco so this is their
02:31flagship glass coating and this one here
02:34is in a roll-on type application we're
02:36going to talk about the application in
02:38just a few seconds but it is very very
02:40simple so this one here lasts all the
02:42way up to 12 months of protection
02:46and it's made especially if you drive
02:48your vehicles more on the highway
02:50because it needs a bit higher speeds to
02:52work correctly so we're looking at
02:54speeds of roughly 60 kilometers an hour
02:56or 37 miles per hour hence why it's more
03:00appropriate for driving on the highway
03:02so at higher speeds you can coat up to
03:05five windshields of average sized cars
03:07with this product here before you apply
03:09any of these coatings though it is
03:11crucial to prep your windshield properly
03:14as you're going to see of course in the
03:16demo so you can use a glass polish or of
03:20the soft 99 brand thought of you and
03:22created their own glacco glass compound
03:25so this one here is a unique cleaning
03:27agent with abrasive particles of various
03:29sizes and hardness that allow you to
03:31deep clean your windows once again very
03:33very simple they're all well packaged
03:36and beautifully made so it has this felt
03:38applicator and you just squeeze the
03:40bottle a bit it's going to release the
03:42product on the surface and you're going
03:44to apply it on the surface and then you
03:46simply rinse with a jet of water you dry
03:49and you're ready to start coating your
03:51glass so preparation is key because you
03:53want to remove any previous sealant
03:55that's on there and especially you want
03:57to remove any traffic film or road grime
03:59or anything that might interfere with
04:01the glass coatings properly bonding onto
04:03the surface so prep is key once again
04:06you're going to see this in the demo so
04:08the second glass coating that we'll be
04:10presenting is this one here so this is a
04:13new limited edition it's the glacco
04:15roll-on max y-max because this is the
04:17biggest size they ever offered this can
04:20coat up to 18 windshields of average
04:24this one here does not require the 12
04:28of curing like the ultra glaco so this
04:30one here is might be a speedier
04:32application if you want to go out and
04:33about in the elements as soon as you're
04:36once again the same type
04:39felt applicator so these are meant to be
04:41very very easy to use and apply so
04:44anybody can apply this
04:46now this one here and the next one we're
04:48going to talk about these are made for
04:50driving more in the city because they
04:52need lower speeds for them to operate
04:54properly so we're talking about speeds
04:5645 kilometers an hour or 28 miles an
04:59hour for perfect for that city driving
05:01and this has a bit better hydrophobic
05:04properties compared to the ultra glaco
05:06meaning that the water is going to beat
05:08off and sheet off extremely well by the
05:10way if you look at glass through a
05:12microscope when you're not looking at
05:14glass through a microscope so just
05:15visually it looks smooth right well in
05:18actuality when you're looking at it
05:19through the lens of a microscope glass
05:20is very porous so when you don't have
05:24when it rains on the surface it creates
05:26droplets and basically different types
05:28of shapes and sizes which can decrease
05:31visibility when you're driving in the
05:33rain hence why it's important to use a
05:36glass coating because what these glass
05:38coatings do they come in and they fill
05:40in the pores of the glass making it
05:42perfectly smooth and especially giving
05:44it hydrophobic properties so you're
05:46getting a water contact angle that's
05:48very aggressive helping to create very
05:50tight and round water beads that can be
05:52blown off when you're driving on the
05:54road and so yeah that's why it's
05:57important to use your coating so it
05:58increases visibility when you're driving
06:00in the rain and increases security as
06:03well because if you can see better or
06:05more clearer when you're driving while
06:07obviously you have better chances of
06:09driving safely on the road and that's
06:10why these are super popular once again
06:12over 125 million units sold worldwide so
06:16far so they're celebrating 30 years of
06:18this now for somebody who wants to speed
06:20things up even more they have this
06:23product here this is basically their
06:25glacco q so it has the same technology
06:28as the roll-on max except it also has a
06:31built-in cleaner so it's basically a
06:34two-in-one product so it's a cleaner and
06:36protectant so you can skip the glass
06:37prep and not worry about the bonding of
06:40the sealant so once again you remove
06:42this tab here that you unscrew and you
06:44have the felt applicator and you're
06:47basically when you're applying this it's
06:48going to help to clean the glass and
06:51coat the glass at the same time
06:53by the way for this glaco and the
06:55roll-on max you're looking at two months
06:57up to two months of protection with this
07:00and so yeah this is a two-in-one product
07:02for the glacoq once again this is made
07:05if you're doing mainly uh some driving
07:07in the city so with speeds of 45
07:10kilometers an hour or 28 miles an hour
07:13this is more appropriate for you guys
07:15that while driving the city and also due
07:17to the shape of the product itself this
07:19tip here it's perfect for reaching the
07:22edges of the windscreen especially in
07:25the harder to get edges so it's perfect
07:27for that with glacoq you can expect to
07:29cover roughly seven windshields of
07:31average size cars all right guys so for
07:33the demo portion of this video the
07:36vehicle was entirely washed it's dry and
07:38now for the windshield prep which is key
07:41before applying any type of glass
07:42coating or glass sealant you want to get
07:44it free of any traffic film bug guts
07:47road grime and of course dirt so we went
07:50to step above and despite the fact that
07:53there was no glass coating left on this
07:56vehicle at this point we still used the
07:58glaco roll-on compound so we applied it
08:02on the vehicle you squeeze the product
08:04and you apply it in a cross-hash pattern
08:07up and down and left and right you're
08:09going to do the entire windshield and
08:11then just rinse it off using just
08:13regular water either from your pressure
08:14washer or your garden hose you're going
08:16to rinse that residue off it rinses
08:19cleanly off and then of course you're
08:21going to dry the the surface with your
08:23microfiber drying towel or whatever
08:25towel you have to make sure that the
08:27glass is not only clean but dry as well
08:29now you're going to notice on screen
08:31there is no protection left so no water
08:33beating and the water is very slow to
08:37sheet off so a visual indicator that
08:39there's nothing left on the top and it's
08:41crucial before you apply a coating same
08:43applies to paint coatings right we want
08:44to prep the surface well to ensure a
08:46proper bonding of the coating on the
08:49so what we did here now on the
08:51windshield is i split it in four
08:52sections so in this first part here is
08:55going to be our control section so no
08:57coding will be applied on the first
09:00in the second portion we're going to
09:02have the glocko ultra
09:06third part we're going to have glaco
09:08roll on max and in the last quadrant
09:11we're going to have the glacoq so you're
09:13going to see the application all three
09:15of them pretty much apply the same way
09:17by the way so what we're going to do
09:19let's start in the second quadrant with
09:21the glauco ultra shake the product well
09:25you're going to unscrew the cap and then
09:27there's that felt applicator for this
09:29one so you're going to apply on the
09:31glass you're going to gently squeeze
09:33you're going to see some product come
09:35and then come out of the the bottle i
09:37mean and then in an up and down and left
09:40to right movement or a cross hatch
09:42pattern we're going to apply this on the
09:49and so it's very very simple this is
09:52idiot proof anybody can apply this on
09:55the glass it was developed for anybody
09:58even people who don't really know
09:59anything about car detailing to be able
10:02so now we're going to do the cross hatch
10:05and then you're basically going to let
10:07it dry on the surface for five to ten
10:09minutes they all apply pretty much the
10:11same way and then you're gonna come in
10:13with a clean and dry microfiber towel
10:16and you're going to buff off
10:19and that's as simple as that now for the
10:23you are going to wait
10:25a curing period of 12 hours
10:28with this one before you go ahead and
10:31expose it to any water or rain the other
10:33two products so the glaco roll on max
10:36and the glacoq do not require
10:38any curing time so let's apply those two
10:41okay guys so for the glaco roll on max
10:43once again you unscrew the cap it has
10:47that felt applicator you squeeze on the
10:49surface you're going to see some product
10:52so this one here has a nice grip to it
10:56so it falls nicely into your hands
10:58and then up and down
11:05you're going to apply on the glass this
11:10of one or two minutes
11:12you can cover your entire glass
11:22and again you're gonna let
11:24that dry on the surface for roughly five
11:27to ten minutes before wiping off with a
11:29clean and dry microfiber towel and on
11:31this last quadrant here we have the
11:35this time so this is the two in one
11:38cleaner and protectant if you remember
11:40so it has the felt applicator as well
11:43so you can squeeze that the product
11:50so the user-friendly nature of these
11:54that it removes any guesswork
11:57out of the prep and application
12:00and look how quick and simple again that
12:05up and down and left to right this is to
12:07ensure proper coverage exactly the way
12:09we do with paint coatings guys
12:12so this one here thanks to its tip
12:16can get into the corners of your
12:18windshield easy because of this pointed
12:20tip here so when you're getting into the
12:24it's very very easy to apply so now
12:27we've applied all three we have our
12:29control section which is at the end over
12:31there with nothing on it we're gonna let
12:33these dry on the surface five to ten
12:35minutes come back and then wipe with a
12:37clean and dry microfiber towel okay guys
12:39so 5 to 10 minutes have gone by it's now
12:41time to wipe off the coating residue for
12:44the purpose i'm using the soft 99 super
12:47cloth so a low nap microfiber
12:50towel and very easy to remove it's
12:55already gliding on that surface thanks
12:58awesome slickness and
13:00all those hydrophobics
13:02that will be granted to the glass so
13:12i mean when you follow instructions
13:15guys all of the products are made to be
13:19to apply and to remove
13:24and this one here is no exception all
13:26right guys so here we are 19 hours later
13:29so we let enough time for the ultra
13:31glaco to have its 12 hours of curing and
13:35i remind you that the other two so the
13:37roll on max and the glacoq do not need
13:40any curing time we're going to watch the
13:42hydrophobic properties so the water
13:44beating and water sheeting compared to
13:46the first quadrant here which is our
13:48control that has no protection
14:00so notice right away look how awesome
14:03the water beads are on the three other
14:06quadrants compared to the very very slow
14:09sheeting and just this pooling of water
14:12a flat sheet on the control side so here
14:15the water is still fully on the glass
14:17and everywhere else the water has
14:19sheeted off and we're left with these
14:21beautiful droplets so let's do that one
14:35and once again the same phenomena so
14:38hopefully you can see this on screen i'm
14:39going to change angles as well so you
14:41can see it from another angle but look
14:42at this the water is still very slow to
14:45sheet and it's just one big pool of
14:47water here flat on the control side with
14:49no protection and all the other three
14:52quadrants have very very quick water
14:54beading and water sheeting so i will
14:57give you a different perspective here
14:58from the inside of the vehicle
15:12so again you can see how slow the water
15:15is to sheet off on the control side so
15:17the water is pooling in one flat sheet
15:19it's still like all the way here
15:21saturated with water and all the other
15:23three sections the water is flying off
15:26we have nice very tight water beads very
15:29quick sheeting there's a lot of spots
15:31where the windshield is dry so imagine
15:34you're driving in inclement weather and
15:35it's raining this is what you'd see from
15:51and i think it's pretty obvious to
15:53conclude where the visibility is the
15:55clearest so the three quadrants with the
15:57coatings versus the control side you
16:00still see this huge sheet of flat water
16:03so let's do this again from this vantage
16:16so again you can clearly tell
16:18on the first quadrant over here the
16:20water is very very slow to sheet off
16:23and it is one big pool
16:25and on the other three with the
16:27protection almost no water left very
16:30quick water sheeting nice tight round
16:33water beads aggressive contact angles
16:34look at that look how quickly the water
16:37droplets slide off pretty awesome let me
16:39bring you in closer now for the
16:41protected side so you guys can see that
16:43so let's have a look at those aggressive
16:44water contact angles
17:05you see how quickly those droplets go
17:08that's insane look how quick the water
17:10slides off i love watching that
17:25look how fast this is hopefully it
17:27translates on screen and by the way
17:29don't overthink the moment between the
17:30choice of the ultra glaco or the other
17:33two so uh if you're mainly doing some
17:36highway driving go for the ultra glaco
17:39or if you're looking for the ultimate in
17:40durability the ultra glaco will give you
17:42those 12 months of protection
17:44if you're mainly doing some city driving
17:48go for either the roll on max or the
17:51glacoq so these ones here will give you
17:54up to two months of protection and are
17:55better off for city driving but
17:57ultimately regardless of which one you
17:59pick and regardless in which setting you
18:00are as you can see even without driving
18:03the water is still going to beat off and
18:04sheet off it's just that they're more
18:06effective on in their respective
18:08scenarios if you mainly do one or the
18:11other either city or highway but
18:12regardless again of which one you pick
18:14you're gonna get this awesome uh beating
18:16performance and that quick water
18:18sheeting i mean look at this this is
18:20already bone dry there's barely any
18:21water left hence the uh enhanced
18:24visibility and security and clarity when
18:26you're driving with some wind shield
18:30so guys you saw how simple these glass
18:33coatings were to apply the performance
18:35is just nuts so you're increasing your
18:37clarity when you're driving in the rain
18:39you're increasing your visibility and
18:40hence your security but now what do you
18:42do for the maintenance well they thought
18:44about it and it's very very simple so
18:47the product that you'll need for
18:49maintenance is in a spray form and it's
18:51this one here this is called their
18:53glocko de cleaner it's a glass cleaner
18:55that's enriched with the
18:56glycohydrophobic additive so a bit of
18:58that same technology as in the coating
19:00it's going to help to remove dirt bird
19:02droppings dead bugs all that kind of
19:05while adding the hydrophobic additive to
19:07boost the structure of your previously
19:09applied glaco coating and it reinforces
19:12that effect and by the way this is
19:13compatible with the entire range of the
19:15glaco coatings regardless of which one
19:17you have so you're basically going to
19:20use this to clean and protect or boost
19:22the protection that exists on your glass
19:24you're gonna spray this 15 to 20
19:26centimeters away so a few inches away
19:28from your your glass you're gonna take
19:30the microfiber towel you're gonna wipe
19:32off and that's it you're good to go and
19:34you boosted the protection and you also
19:36cleaned your glass this can also be used
19:40mini protectant if you want on your
19:42glass if you don't have any protection
19:43of course don't expect maximum
19:45durability out of this compared to their
19:46full-blown glass coatings now another
19:49cool product that you have
19:51in their range is this one here let me
19:53give you a close-up this is called their
19:55glacco mirror coat zero so what this is
19:58basically it's an ultra hydrophobic
20:00coating for side mirrors and you're
20:02reversing cameras too so it is pretty
20:05simple once you're done cleaning your
20:06car or at least use a glass cleaner to
20:08clean off the uh your mirrors and the
20:10reversing camera get the surface clean
20:12and what you're going to do is you're
20:14going to take in the packaging there's
20:16this backing right it comes like this in
20:18the package you're going to take this
20:20and you're going to wrap it around the
20:21mirror housing inside that's way that
20:23way you don't have any overspray on the
20:25paintwork and you're going to take the
20:27product itself shake it well and you're
20:30simply going to spray on the surface of
20:32the mirror and on your reversing camera
20:34and that's it back off you're going to
20:35let it dry for an hour in the summertime
20:38or at least two hours during the winter
20:41do not touch the surface after you
20:45all that is going to be needed to remove
20:46the water when you're driving in
20:48inclement weather or in the rain is
20:49going to be gravity itself it is so
20:52hydrophobic you're going to feel that
20:53water just bounces off the surface
20:56all right guys for another cool thing so
20:58we applied if you remember the glaco
21:01mirror code zero coding on this mirror
21:04and on the reversing camera and uh soft
21:0699 are super proud because they made a
21:09scientific magazine thanks to this
21:11coding so the nature magazine and in
21:14that article they were testing uh some
21:16research on super hydrophobic properties
21:18and this product repels water so
21:20strongly that conventional testing of
21:22the angle of contact between the droplet
21:25and the substrate is difficult because
21:27the droplet simply does not stop
21:29precision testing puts the droplet
21:31contact angle at get this 160 to
21:34165 degrees now you're gonna see the
21:37water just flies off the mirror look at
21:49you see how quick that is that is insane
21:54so there's no like the water just flies
21:56off immediately after you're done
21:58rinsing look at that
22:01i can't even get water to stick on the
22:23it just flies off it will not stick
22:28regardless how strong of a jet it is
22:33look at that it just flies off
22:52again the lens will not get wet it just
22:56repels all the water immediately
23:02so by the way do not use this if you
23:04have heated type mirrors that is very
23:09or mirrors that have coatings on them so
23:11do not apply this on heated mirrors or
23:13mirrors that have coatings but basically
23:15on any other type of your mirrors this
23:17is going to help the water just bounce
23:19off so you're going to see very clearly
23:21out your side mirrors and the same thing
23:22for your reversing camera right it often
23:24gets clogged or dirty with a bunch of
23:26crap rain and grime and all that kind of
23:28stuff well this is going to help
23:30increase that visibility when you're
23:32reversing without reversing camera and
23:34it is very very simple to use so as you
23:39the products were not only very simple
23:41uh to apply but the durability is going
23:43to be there i know myself that i tried
23:46glaco in the past and i also got 11 to
23:4812 months of protection out of this
23:51these products are new to me however i
23:53don't see why we won't reach the one to
23:55two months of durability uh claims that
23:57they have and of course i'm going to be
23:58testing all of these long term and
24:00report back to you guys with my findings
24:02but by the way if you guys have tested
