00:13one of the most popular vehicles in the
00:15US but there's another competitor that
00:18gains traction each year the Subaru
00:21Forester it just finished its best sales
00:24month ever and Subaru is hoping to keep
00:26that momentum up with this allnew 2025
00:31so is the segment's latest redesign a
00:33better pick than the segment sales King
00:36let's go ahead and find
00:50out so first off let's discuss the
00:53pricing for these two family SUVs
00:56starting with the popular Rav 4 we have
00:58the sporty yet high-end xsc trip Lop
01:01ttta offers quite a few options and our
01:04tester checked almost all of those
01:06making its total price
01:10destination moving to the allnew subie
01:13you'll find a very similar price point
01:15in the loaded touring trim level it
01:18comes standard with everything and after
01:20destination makes its grand total around
01:22$500 less than the R
01:254 by the way if you want to get the best

01:31models or any vehicle we have a tool on

01:49and towards the end we will go over a

01:56information let's go ahead and get
02:00so beginning with the exteriors you'll
02:02see that both of these crossovers bring
02:04pretty bold designs to the table for the
02:07all new Forester they stretch the grill
02:09out this year to increase the
02:11aggressiveness and both models finish it
02:14black now we won't be awarding points
02:16based on design preferences but for
02:19lighting we do have a difference both
02:21come with premium projector LED lighting
02:24but only the Subaru has adaptive
02:26abilities additionally it has led fog
02:29lamps compared to the rav Forest accent
02:33strip continuing to the sides the
02:35Forester gains about an inch of length
02:37for the all new generation which makes
02:39it a couple inches longer than the Rav 4
02:42we'll talk about how that translates to
02:44space later but it's only the rav for
02:46that offers a two-tone roof option for
02:49those who like the little extra flare
02:51for Wheels you'll find large contrast
02:5419-in alloy wheels on the Forester
02:56compared to the Toyota which maxes out
02:58at 18 in on this trip
03:01next up we have the rears you may have
03:03your own opinions regarding the designs
03:05but as far as the features you'll find
03:08partially LED tail lights exposed
03:10exhaust outlets and window
03:12wipers only the RAF 4 has dual exposed
03:15Outlets though and only the Forester has
03:18LED reverse light if you're looking to
03:21tow the hybrid ra 4 can tow about 15%
03:24more weight at 1750 lb versus the
03:30now moving on to some of the individual
03:32features you'll find nice mirrors on
03:34both which have blind spot monitoring
03:36Heating and LED turn signals but family
03:39SUVs need to be safe and one of the
03:41really nice things about these two
03:43crossovers is that all four of your
03:45major active safety features are
03:46included as standard
03:48equipment their warranties are also
03:50mostly the same as well besides for
03:52Toyota's 2 years and 25,000 Mi of
03:56maintenance but Subaru is really up the
03:59tech on the inside so let's get into
04:01that comparison but first if you're new
04:04here we're brothers and we've been
04:05reviewing cars since we were 12 and 16
04:08we may be young but we love
04:11cars and we'd love for you to subscribe

04:15family let's learn a lot have some fun
04:20cars approaching both SUVs they have
04:23Smart entry systems with nice key fobs
04:26remote start is available via each
04:28Brand's app for free during the trial
04:31period both have sensors behind the door
04:33handles to unlock and after opening the
04:36doors you're going to see spacious and
04:38surprisingly nice cabins in their High
04:40levels before we dig into features let's
04:43start with the seats the Toyota has a
04:46sporty black softex leather while the
04:48Forester goes for a more premium real
04:50leather with Alcantara suede accents on
04:54side that's a more expensive material
04:57and for seat adjustability the Toyota
04:59has ways of power adjustment compared to
05:03Subaru it's also the subie that has the
05:05advantage with seat climate as it now
05:07includes SE ventilation for this all new
05:10model that's something that only the
05:12more expensive limited rap 4 can get and
05:14both SUVs have two person
05:23memory and once inside the cabins let's
05:26check out the major Point category of
05:30in this regard both models have solid
05:32cabins with good materials the Subaru
05:35has a durable feeling letherette across
05:37the dash and where your knees will rest
05:40the Toyota also has very similar
05:41materials so we'll call this area
05:50even after start up you'll see a big
05:53difference despite being all new Subaru
05:55stalls the traditional gauge cluster
05:57with a 4.2in multi-function display in
05:59the middle the R 4 meanwhile has a full
06:0312.3 in digital cluster with good
06:08customizability neither have the option
06:10of head- up displays and moving back
06:12they both have heated leather wrap
06:14steering wheels along with rain sensing
06:18equipped now it's time to evaluate
06:20another major interior section storage
06:23this is a big deal for many families and
06:26in this regard the ra four pulls away
06:28with a lead it has a larger center
06:31console larger storage area in the front
06:33of the shifter and also a passenger
06:36shelf superu isn't bad per se but the
06:39Toyota definitely takes the point
06:41here moving on both have wireless phone
06:44chargers this year and surprisingly
06:46traditional shifters they have an easy
06:49operation and when in reverse you'll see
06:51360° camera system on both something new
06:55to the Forester this
06:57year for climate both have Dual Zone
07:00automatic setups with physical buttons
07:02for the main temperature adjustment and
07:04for audio both have their respective
07:06upgraded audio systems that means on the
07:09Toyota we have a JBL and on the Subaru A
07:12Harmon Carden system let's take a listen
07:38while both have the same speaker count
07:40it's the Subaru that has the Fuller
07:41audio quality and richer
07:44sound people want a high level of
07:46technology in cars nowadays so let's
07:49move on to the key element of the
07:52displays the R 4 got a big upgrade last
07:55year to this 10.5 in display but not to
07:59be able done the allnew Forester adopts
08:01the large 11.7 in display from other
08:04Subaru products this year that means it
08:07has about 10% more screen real estate
08:10and as far as functionality both have
08:12integrated navigation systems and
08:14Wireless Apple carplay and Android
08:17auto as we wrap up the front of the
08:19cabins both have Auto dimming mirrors
08:21with home link remotes and also the rear
08:24camera functionality if you flip the
08:27switch both claim to have pan moon roofs
08:30and have unique pros and cons the rat
08:33fors is larger overall but the subu
08:35opens wider to let more air
08:39in like we said multiple times at this
08:42point these SUVs are commonly used for
08:44hauling families around so how are the
08:46back seats well both are going to have
08:49impressive amounts of space the Forester
08:52comes in about 4% larger in terms of
08:54rear leg room but that's not quite at
08:56the 5% required to score a point
08:59Headroom is nearly identical for
09:03both now that that's out of the way they
09:05also have quite a few features both give
09:08you USB ports and rear vents but only
09:10the Forester touring has heated rear
09:13seats that's something once again only
09:15on the more expensive R 4
09:20Limited now let's see how much stuff you
09:21can bring along with you for the journey
09:24both have power tailgates with
09:26hands-free abilities and once they open
09:28up you'll find a large 31% advantage in
09:31the ra four behind the second row of
09:33seats surprisingly that Advantage
09:35dissipates with the second row folded
09:38since you get a nearly identical maximum
09:40capacity both models have a spare tire
09:43but it's only the Subaru that includes
09:45switches to fold the
09:47seats this has certainly been a tight
09:49race so far but now it's time to take
09:55streets so as you've seen up until this
09:57point both Subaru and Toyota have
10:00distinct advantages and
10:01disadvantages and we have a big
10:03difference under the hood while the
10:06allnew Forester continues on with this
10:08traditional 2.5 L boxer 4 for
10:112025 several R 4 trims including this
10:16exclusive while the Forester will have a
10:19hybrid eventually it will not be
10:22available in the near future regardless
10:25of your preference on hybrid versus Pure
10:27Gas the rat 4 is significantly quicker
10:30when accelerating because of its
10:42horsepower all right so there we go off
10:45races with the raav 4 hybrid now like we
10:48mentioned at the spec dump actually the
10:50raav 4 hybrid is more powerful than the
10:53traditional gas powertrain
10:56option and in addition to just being
10:58more powerful which this has 219
11:00horsepower to remind you it does also
11:03have that lowend electric torque so when
11:05you get off the line it has that nice
11:09sensation of acceleration from that
11:11electric motor generating power and I
11:15think that really makes it to me feel
11:17quite a bit faster than the traditional
11:31all right so there is our acceleration
11:33up to 60 MPH with the
11:38Forester now we talked about um you know
11:41some powertrain specs and things like
11:43that in part one of this Forester review
11:47but uh we do want to just remind you
11:49guys what we have on board so this is
11:51going to continue on with a 2 1/2 L
11:54boxer 4 cylinder engine when it comes to
11:57Transmissions both are using versions of
12:00cvts they have similar performance but
12:03more importantly let's talk about
12:06capability here the Forester pulls ahead
12:09with greater ground clearance and while
12:11both of them have standard all-wheel
12:13drive it's only the Foresters that is a
12:15full-time all-wheel drive setup versus
12:18part-time this is what has long given
12:20the Forester its reputation for
12:23adventuring drive and it's not just a
12:25part-time all-wheel drive setting or
12:27setup it is a full-time electrical
12:29all-wheel drive setup uh so that's of
12:31course going to help you with your
12:32off-roading uh abilities in this model
12:35so if you're one of those more
12:36adventurous type of people you certainly
12:38will appreciate that here in the
12:40Forester this is going to be using a
12:42continuously variable transmission as
12:44all Subarus do uh this also has received
12:48updates versus the previous generation
12:50um you're going to be looking at eight
12:52simulated gear changes versus seven
12:56changes now let's talk about an
12:58important part for any family SUV the
13:00ride quality in this area both impressed
13:04and have better than average ride
13:05quality and comfortable
13:08seats all righty and now we've finally
13:10turned on our designated Highway stretch
13:14and this is where I really want to spend
13:15a little bit of time talking about how
13:17good this Rav 4 rides now over the last
13:207 Days um we have driven this vehicle
13:23quite a lot you know I had a wedding to
13:25go to so I drove it about 2 hours away
13:28and then Road tripped back so we've been
13:30in this vehicle for many many hours at
13:32this point this week and I have to say
13:35I'm very very impressed with the ride
13:37quality now let's go ahead and talk
13:40about the ride quality for this all new
13:43Forester now in this department I have
13:45been nothing but impressed for this all
13:48new model the Forester always rode
13:49really nicely and this all new one very
13:51much feels like a Forester in that
13:53respect uh however there have been even
13:55some improvements on top of that one of
13:57the things that they said they changed
13:58is this seat to make it a little bit
14:00more comfortable a little bit more
14:01supportive based on customer feedback so
14:03far I'm very impressed with the way the
14:05seat is performing but that aside how
14:08quiet are the cabins here at car
14:10infections we take a sound level reading
14:12for every vehicle we test on the
14:14channel unfortunately the Subaru test
14:17was taken at a press event in Montana so
14:21officially but even then the two SUVs
14:24came within one deel of each other let's
14:27do our signature level test see how
14:47is we have settled in at
14:5056.7 DB as our official car confection
15:0157.6 DB is our official car confection
15:05sound level reading lastly if fuel
15:08economy is front of mind for you then
15:09the raft for will make more sense this
15:12hybrid system delivers a phenomenal 40
15:15MPG combined while the traditional
15:17Forester is setting in at 29 MPG
15:21combined that will definitely add up
15:23over the lifetime of owning the vehicle
15:25but do keep in mind that the Forester is
15:27promising a hybrid likely in about a
15:31now in our reviews and comparisons we
15:34are also adding in reliability and
15:35resale information to give you a better
15:37picture of the overall value Beyond just
15:41MSRP beginning with reliability we
15:43developed the combined reliability index
15:46which takes into account several studies
15:48from trustworthy sources and combines
15:50them in a way that gives you a more
15:51realistic picture Subaru ranks 12 slots
15:55above the industry average for All
15:56Brands and reliability warning it one
15:591.2 points while Toyota is the very top
16:02brand for reliability 16 slots above
16:05average giving it 1.6
16:08points we also put Mason's economics
16:10degree to work to develop a detailed
16:12predicted resale value
16:15tool after 5 years and 60,000 miles both
16:18Brands impress Toyota has the second
16:21highest predicted resale value of
16:2464.5% in Subaru the third best is 63%
16:29which only gives the Toyota a tenth of a
16:31point Advantage according to our
16:34scale resell is obviously important
16:36because it determines how much money you
16:38get back but we can't forget about the
16:40price difference at the original
16:41purchase the ref4 costs $595 more than
16:45the Forester which according to our
16:47scale gives the Forester a half
16:50point I want to emphasize that if money
16:52reliability or resale value matter less
16:55to you personally feel free to disregard

17:39available at that same price point of
17:41$41,000 in the fully loaded trim level
17:44and then lastly you have a better audio
17:46system and a larger screen on the inside
17:49now the Rav 4 and the flip side should
17:51be your choice if you want a hybrid
17:53powertrain setup for now at least I do
17:56caveat that the Forester will have a
17:58hybrid system not available just yet so
18:00if you want the hybrid you will have to
18:02choose the Rav 4 for now now
18:04additionally it does have more stylish
18:06exterior choices you know the two-tone
18:08roof you have a lot of customizability
18:10with the Rav 4 and finally the interior
18:12storage up in the front is better in the
18:15Rav 4 and a little bit more practical
18:17but we want to know what choice you're
