00:21tight welcome back everybody to our Evo
00:259 wagon build in the previous episode we
00:28installed a bolt on Turbo upgrade and an
00:31rtech manifold and a beautiful exhaust
00:34system and in this episode we are hoping
00:36to get this thing running by completing
00:38the engine bay but you guys will notice
00:41I've got my new speed Academy hat on we

00:55started on anything performance oriented
00:58check this out I noticed the front
01:01transmission mount here is completely
01:03torn and you can see how low it's
01:06actually sitting it's been I think
01:08cracked and and torn like this for a
01:10while so I did get a replacement and you
01:11can see this one is actually a different
01:14design and looks like it's going to be
01:17much more firm and put the the gearbox
01:20and the engine back into a proper
01:22position like look at the difference
01:24between the height the old one was just
01:26like so low so good thing I caught this
01:28because I feel like this this certainly
01:30you know gives you that kind of like
01:32shake and whatnot this is a bit puzzling
01:34to me look how much bigger this hole is
01:36this is the bowt that goes through here
01:39man there is a ton of
01:41room once I put this through
01:44here you can see it's kind of wild how
01:47much play there is but uh maybe it's
01:50supposed to be like that I mean I guess
01:53it has to be like that but maybe once
01:55you tighten it down it kind of yeah yeah
01:56we'll have to make sure that there's a
01:58proper torque spec for this and my Pro
02:00tip you can see the engine is hanging a
02:02little bit low here um obviously because
02:05it didn't have this front crossmember on
02:07but instead of fighting with it and
02:09trying to like raise the whole motor I'm
02:11just going to use the bolts here put
02:13these guys in place and then tighten it
02:17up and it should just raise the engine
02:34anytime you're increasing power you're
02:36usually adding heat and that means you
02:38really want to do a cooling upgrade and
02:41of course we have turned to our favorite
02:43Radiator Company coo rad with their 48
02:47mm hyper core so certainly a bigger core
02:50than stock the the plastic and tanks are
02:53now gone we're going all aluminum on
02:55this and my biggest thing that I love
02:57about Coy rad is how perfect and spot-on
03:02their fitment is so we always when we
03:05put these in have no issues you can see
03:07the fan bolted right into place and now
03:09this is going to drop right into here
04:26wow look at this shiny brand new
04:29intercool cool ER full kit from gredy
04:31this is their spec LS 24e intercooler
04:34with hard piping and man it was pretty
04:37tight everybody in the turbo area the
04:39hot pipe coming off was was a bit of a
04:41pain to get in but once it went on um as
04:44you can see everything else is a bolt on
04:46I haven't fully fit this up here because
04:48we still have to do some intake work to
04:51get it all to fit this actually uh is
04:53meant for a six-speed car but as you can
04:55see it looks like it's going to work on
04:57the automatic which is a good thing and
05:00most important of all we're just going
05:01to get better uh cooling capacity with
05:04this larger core as you can see this is
05:06way bigger than the factory one and
05:09again more boost better cooling is going
05:12to equal more power so that's exactly
05:14what we want here since I need to run
05:16the factory mass airflow system on this
05:18car because we are not going to a
05:20standalone ECU that would likely delete
05:22it uh the options are somewhat Slim in
05:25terms of what you can do for an intake
05:28there are intakes on the market however
05:29in this scenario as you guys saw I do
05:32have to reuse that Factory uh intake
05:36pipe and there for what I'm going to be
05:38doing is I've got a vibrant adapter here
05:41that bolts on a air filter from vibrant
05:45this is a 4 in so it's actually quite
05:47large which is pretty good it's going to
05:49give us good air flow and then that's
05:52going to go on there and you can see now
05:54we do have an open air element which is
05:57going to give us a bunch of good sound
05:59and then this will go on to here as such
06:03but man there we go so that's what what
06:06it's going to look like I do however
06:09feel you know what like let me show you
06:12what I've got this is an HKS intake for
06:16789 however it being for a manual car we
06:20had issues where it would hit the uh
06:24dipstick here for the automatic
06:25transmission but I I desperately do want
06:28to make it work I'm not sure sure if
06:29it's a going to give us any performance
06:32although you can see like the inside
06:33here this is a a pretty big upgrade in
06:36terms of airflow but I think the noises
06:39the whooshing that you'll get that will
06:41the resonance that will carry through um
06:44into the filter and all that is going to
06:46be quite louder than the factory one so
06:49uh I think if we were able to make uh a
06:54little bit of a concession and move this
06:56dipstick a little bit we might actually
06:59be able to to get it to work here so who
07:03knows let's try this if I get it to work
07:06great if not we'll go back to this uh
07:08the factory guy here which I
07:12think it's already so tight with the fan
07:15and everything in here so you can see
07:17like look at the difference between that
07:18and that I think we'll get a better flow
07:21for sure but the noise itself will be
07:24tremendous I'm pulling the actual
07:26dipstick out here for a second just to
07:28get it out of the way we'll see if we
07:30can relocate it and now with that this
07:33intake fits up pretty much perfect
07:36you'll see right there and then this
07:39will live over here so let's get all
07:41this back together here and let's see if
07:43I can find a spot for relocating that
07:46dipstick you can see I have relocated
07:49the dipstick over here which looks like
07:52it's going to clear and then we can get
07:57sensor on right here and I think I think
08:01this is going to work guys which is
08:03going to be excellent you can see there
08:05we are so that isn't that all that bad I
08:08think we can still access the dipstick
08:09you can see here and it should still
08:12clear the battery the piping here and
08:14everything so looks like we've got
08:15ourselves a victory yeah PT should we
08:18have powerder coated that piping oh
08:20don't even get me started you know we
08:22got got to power coat the intercooler
08:24you know where's the
08:26OC if we this is a quick and easy this
08:29is a Le bill but yes it would be nice to
08:31like replace all the couplers with black
08:33couplers go get all of this stuff
08:35powdercoated black so would have that
08:37like OEM plus touch but uh not on this
08:40build we're keeping it easy and simple
08:41can we talk about the valve cover PT can
08:43we talk about that we're not touching
08:44the valve cover dude do not show do not
08:47show the valve valve covers are crazy
08:49expensive I think they're like5 to to
08:51$700 new around there and it's just it's
08:55not in the budget this thing is a driver
08:57everybody it's not a show car and uh the
09:01more money I spend on things like brand
09:04new valve covers the less M the the less
09:06money I have to put in gas and actually
09:08drive it next on the upgrade list is the
09:11blowoff valve you can see it is a
09:13plastic one and they're not exactly
09:15great for higher boost so we have gone
09:17with the turbos smart compact blowoff
09:20valve this thing obviously is going to
09:22be better suited for our higher boost
09:25ratings it is a direct fit which is
09:27exactly what I like Bol on and go man
09:30everything is so tight I've buttoned up
09:33all the intercooler piping the intake
09:36and there are like millimeters in
09:38between the in the HKS intake and the
09:41grety piping the grety piping does kind
09:44of like touch against the rad so I've
09:46had to put like an extra piece of rubber
09:48against there but it all works and it's
09:51going to make great noises everybody so
09:54I'm pumped on that last thing to do is I
09:57bought a brand new heat shield for that
10:00OEM plus look here look the the artech
10:03manifold is going to get covered up here
10:06a you know what it's going to still look
10:09now look OEM plus I'm kind of tempted DP
10:13to put the OE air filter back in here
10:16too you know I was thinking about it if
10:18we have time we'll see when we go to the
10:20dyno if we have time I may bring it and
10:23we may just swap it in to see if there's
10:26actually like a big difference from an
10:28intake like this to a stock airbox
10:31because I'm curious myself to find that
10:32out so if yeah yeah if we have time
12:49and there it is our radium fuel rail is
12:53in place nice bolt-on setup really love
12:56that they provide the plumbing kit as
12:58you guys saw I just con converts the
12:59feed line to the- 6 for the return I did
13:03stick with the OEM line just put a Barb
13:05into their fuel pressure regulator and
13:08we are running the stock injectors now
13:10those these stock injectors may just be
13:12at their limit for the power level we're
13:14going to make so I've decided I am going
13:17to stick with them however we do have
13:19some ID 1050s ready to go to drop in in
13:22case we do run out of fuel but because
13:25this is a pump gas car and it's an
13:27automatic transmission car I don't think
13:30we will need the extra fueling but who
13:32knows now the one thing that I
13:35absolutely loathe about this injector
13:37install are these little clips that have
13:41to be put back on the actual injector
13:44Clips I guess these aren't Clips these
13:45are like little lock uh pins here and
13:50the technique to put them in is a bit of
13:53a nightmare so if you guys have uh any
13:57tips on how to do this what I found is I
13:59see I'm try you can't put them in like
14:01this if you try to put them in like this
14:03you can see they they just go in on the
14:05sides like that so what I found the best
14:08way to do this is kind of get it on the
14:10side here so if I can actually get one
14:14side go and see like that and then
14:16slowly bring it up and then try to you
14:21got to do both sides and then push it up
14:25in which seems super easy you can see it
14:28just starts slipping off it's like a
14:31disaster the way they Design This
14:34Man your injectors will never fall off
14:37but they also they can convert these to
14:39some deuts connectors I know well
14:42thankfully the those IDs won't use these
14:44but see am I on oh yeah I'm right there
14:49now I just need to see how it's like
14:51that all I have to do pop this in there
14:57okay so now I can can push that back on
15:00here so that's the easy part and there
15:04it's locked in heaven forbid I have to
15:06take that off the stock fuel pump isn't
15:08going to provide the amount of fuel that
15:10we need for our power level and the
15:13reason why I upgraded that fuel rail and
15:16with an adjustable regulator is if we're
15:18just at that limit we can crank up the
15:21fuel pressure just a little bit to get a
15:23little bit of extra fuel if we're right
15:25at that like you know running our
15:26injectors almost at Max so we do need to
15:28make a fuel pump upgrade and this is the
15:31first time I have seen something like
15:33this in an EVO DP this is really
15:36interesting it's it's a sound ending map
15:37maybe this is just for wagons but that's
15:40kind of neat yeah and look at how mint
15:44it is behind here holy smokes this looks
15:46like it it just had like dry ice
15:48blasting done here wow it is like super
15:51clean I can tell you this much there
15:53weren't kids in the back here cuz this
15:55would usually be covered with a bunch of
15:59of Cheerios or dirt or
16:02debris that is that is not the case here
16:05so that is a good sign for this car and
16:08let's see what the fuel pump looks like
16:11here it's been a while since I've done
16:13one of these but if I remember correctly
16:15you just pop these two little tabs off
16:18here which then opens the bottom housing
16:23here and then we should be able
16:35yeah oh you know gas lots of fluid the
16:39uh unfortunately the gas tank was as
16:40full as it could be for a fuel pump we
16:43are going with our go to am 340 L perh
16:49high high flow pump this is E85
16:52compatible not that we will be getting
16:54there people sadly um in this area where
16:56we are we just do not have E85 so that's
16:59why you don't see us running it at all
17:01and this pump will be a drop in we just
17:04have to transfer a few things I really
17:06do love these am pumps though they're
17:08quiet they're really reliable they don't
17:10have a lot of failure rates so they're
17:12certainly my go-to for any type of
17:15performance build look at this everybody
17:17Plug and Play Just snaps right into
17:20there and then this will slide back in
17:23here just got to get it into that tube
17:26now I had every intention of actually
17:29using the sock that am provides here
17:32however I just noticed if you try to put
17:35this cover back on here the sock is
17:38going to interfere so we're going to
17:40have to use the OE sock and go back to
17:43that one not a huge deal ideally if I
17:45would have known I would have bought a
17:47new one but the old one doesn't look all
17:49that terrible and that's it right there
17:51we can plop this on and we'll be ready
17:54to go I really can't think of a simpler
17:57fuel pump install evos man they're just
18:01so good it's like Mitsubishi knew people
18:03were going to be doing this and they
18:05made it super easy so just a few bolts
18:08back in here and we are done with the
19:10there you go everyone fresh sump full of
19:13valvoline's latest and greatest restore
19:15and protect this is a premium fa
19:16synthetic that does exactly what the
19:18name implies it'll actually clean all
19:20the carbon deposits off of your pistons
19:22and other critical engine uh internals
19:25to the point that it's like 100% clean
19:27again if you if you run this for four a
19:29minimum of four oil changes and industry
19:31first actually which I think is really
19:33cool and as you saw we also used uh
19:34valin's xerx coolant in the blue variety
19:38which does say Honda on the front but me
19:40to Bishi on the back everyone so don't
19:41panic on that one so this thing is uh
19:44fully Sauced up and ready for a first I
19:46guess we'll call it a first start now I
19:48don't remember if I actually need to
19:50push the brake pedal on most North
19:52American cars you do need to push the
19:53brake pedal to start this car uh to
19:55start a car up but uh on the Japanese
19:57ones they don't seem to have that same
19:59safety feature so let's see if this
20:00thing's going to start
20:06here and I know why it's not starting
20:10everybody it's got to build some fuel
20:13pressure we're too low we're only at 20
20:15psi here so I got to increase that a
20:18little bit and then we can try again let
20:20adjust the knob up top and let's see
20:32it's getting there it's getting there
20:34what's our fuel pressure at uh still not
20:3640 let's go a little bit more let's get
20:45it what's base pressure supposed to be
20:47like 43 or something 43 I think I don't
20:50actually know DP but uh we'll get
20:53there there we go there we go mitubishi
20:59oh man Herring like a kitten it is wow
21:04like no Val no at all none that's nice
21:08looks like everything is on there now
21:11we're we're at that like 45ish PSI which
21:15good I me we don't want to run it for
21:18too long but let's first of all let's
21:20give it a couple flips here let's see if
21:22this intake sounds any
21:25good oh yeah oh yeah come to this side d
21:34it oh there you go go and now let's s
21:38the exhaust system on this
21:40car man so perfect look at this at ID
21:44don't barely any louder than sock just
21:46got this like low deep tone it's going
21:48to be perfect let me give you guys a
21:57quick he than you sounds man that sounds
22:00perfect just what the doctor ordered for
22:02like an oem plus sound there last item
22:06of business is to kind of explain the
22:09battery situation the JDM Cars as you
22:12can see do come with smaller Terminals
22:14and in doing so make it difficult to
22:16find the right battery for a right
22:19replacement battery in North America and
22:21what I've done is I've gone to this
22:25Excess power unit right here this is a
22:27lithium battery and you can see super
22:29light uh and it has terminals that you
22:32can screw on and these terminals are the
22:35smaller I think JIS exactly JIS
22:38terminals so we can make this work
22:40however it is actually the other thing I
22:44I I should note here you can see this
22:46battery is actually perfect because it
22:50piping whereas the other battery this
22:53guy here if we try to drop it in it's
22:55going to hit because as you can see this
22:57needs to sit over so this is actually a
23:00good victory for us right here I do
23:03however not have a tie down so the
23:07factory tie down is just too short
23:09because the battery is shorter so I do
23:10have to just order up the proper one but
23:13not a huge deal and you can see the
23:15terminals here will fit up on these just
23:19going to have to do a little bit of
23:20expanding but we'll make that work all
23:21right guys that is going to be a wrap on
