00:23worry there's a new one and it's had a
00:31according to Tesla it's more efficient
00:33has longer range is more comfortable
00:35quieter and features updated technology
00:38all without being more expensive let's

01:09talk about this face the main difference
01:12are these headlights which are a lot
01:13less froggy and are far more Sleek than
01:16before gives the car a bit more of a
01:18handsome look don't you think other
01:20changes include the fact it doesn't have
01:22the fog lights or the fog like trims
01:24that you get on the standard model 3 and
01:26also down here this air intake is a bit
01:29skinnier and a bit less in your face
01:31than on the previous car sadly the new
01:34model 3 doesn't have any front fog
01:36lights which on the previous car were
01:38positioned low down for better fog
01:40penetration since these aren't a legal
01:42requirement and Tesla Love cutting cost
01:44I mean optimizing they've been removed
01:47if you live somewhere foggy like the UK
01:48often is then you might want to bear
01:50that in mind the advantage to having
01:53this design is aerodynamic optimization
01:56it basically means that the car's a lot
01:57more smooth on the front end and they've
01:59actually she managed to drop the drag
02:01coefficient from 0.23 to
02:040.219 meaning this is the lowest drag
02:07Tesla on the market today and part of
02:10that comes from the fact that the Bonnet
02:12has a slightly steeper rake also the
02:14other benefit is that by having a
02:16steeper rake it's also safer so if you
02:18hit a pedestrian the head doesn't have
02:20to travel quite as far before it hits
02:23the car that's a theory anyway around
02:25the side the body hasn't changed at all
02:28but you do get a couple of new wheel
02:30designs in 18 and 19in sizes and new
02:33tires that are supposedly a bit softer
02:35to help improve the ride you also get
02:37two new colors gray and the same Ultra
02:40red you get on the model S the doors
02:42have also been beefed up to help safety
02:44in the event of a side
02:47impact there are a couple of changes
02:50around the back as well as you'd expect
02:52from a facelift including this lower
02:54bumper which looks slightly nicer than
02:56it did before and also some redesigned
02:59rear lights I'm going to explain why
03:01I've got the hazard lights on because
03:03the light situation on this car is quite
03:05interesting these lights are actually
03:07all connected to the boot lid so when
03:09you open them look the lights actually
03:12disappear which is perhaps not the
03:14safest thing in the world but these
03:15Lower Lights that's where your hazard
03:17lights and indicators will live if your
03:20boot is open so if you got an Ikea
03:21wardrobe in the back of the car or
03:23you've broken down on the hard shoulder
03:25apart from that the boot itself is the
03:27same as it ever was so lots of decent
03:30usable storage 425 L with storage on the
03:34right and left for your crisps and your
03:36bananas some underf floor storage for
03:38your charge cables and pretty much
03:40whatever else and there's an extra 88 L
03:43of storage in the front trunk although
03:45get into that space is a bit of a fft
03:47because there's no external button for
03:49it you got to use the app or the screen
03:51inside the car but yes the model 3 is
03:54just as practical As It Ever Was let's
03:57go check out the inside
04:00the Tesla has tried to make the new
04:02model 3 feel a bit more upmarket a bit
04:04more special and added some
04:06functionality the first thing I noticed
04:08when I sat in here is the new ambient
04:10light system which is a light band that
04:11runs from the rear doors all along the
04:13driver doors up around the dashboard and
04:15then all the way back around again and
04:17you can customize that light to pretty
04:19much whatever you want if I want it to
04:21go purple I can do that red I can do
04:23that yellow green blue it's all there
04:25for you to choose as you like nice touch
04:29the dashboard has also been improved on
04:31previous cars you had either a wood
04:33effect or a white finish but now you get
04:36this quite interesting kind of fabric
04:38texture and I believe you can customize
04:40that when you buy the car and it does
04:42look like a slight Improvement on the
04:44previous effort also these vents are a
04:46little bit different to before as well
04:48you can now choose to close off each
04:51side independently which gives you a bit
04:52more flexibility with cooling one side
04:54of the car or the other other touches
04:57worth mentioning I remember when the
04:59first first generation model 3 came out
05:01and I criticized the fact that it didn't
05:03have blind spot indicators and all the
05:05Elon stands came for me saying you don't
05:07need it well guess what elon's listened
05:10he has he's now put little blind spot
05:11indicator lights up here in the speakers
05:15unfortunately they're not very bright
05:16you just get this very faint red light
05:18to warn you when someone's in your blind
05:20spot um but it is a nice and welcome
05:22touch maybe the next Generation could
05:24have a slightly more usable and uh safe
05:28interpretation of my suggestion but
05:30thank you Elon that's a nice touch um
05:32elsewhere we have a new center console
05:34with these aluminium finishes so up
05:36front loads of space in there just
05:38behind that you get cup holders and the
05:40action on these is really nice as well
05:43really nice and smooth and then loads of
05:45space in here and inside here you
05:47actually get a USB C Port plus two more
05:50behind and these are actually really
05:52useful because they are 65 ws and that
05:55means they're powerful enough to
05:56allegedly power a laptop and look what I
05:59have here a laptop does it
06:02work yep charging really useful addition
06:05that's a nice touch um apart from that
06:08the screen has been redesigned slightly
06:09it's the same size as before same
06:11resolution same processor but the bezel
06:14is now thinner and that according to
06:16Tesla means that you get more usable
06:19space to work with I can't work out how
06:21but that's what they say anyway and um
06:24yeah oh the big one yes the steering
06:25wheel's different now you don't have any
06:27stalks behind the wheel because Tesla
06:30say they wanted a much less cluttered
06:33driving feel I've never sat in a car and
06:35thought Oh my God there's so much
06:37clutter behind the steering wheel but
06:39clearly Tesla have and um they now have
06:41all the indicators integrated on the
06:44wheel the flashers the wipers the voice
06:48control it does take some getting used
06:50to and I'll tell you exactly how I get
06:51on in just a second but speaking of
06:53clutter if you want clutter just look at
06:56this screen because all of your
06:57functions in here from your wipers to
06:59your heating to pretty much everything
07:01is all done via this display and it is
07:04in equal measure brilliant and sometimes
07:07frustrating but it's a Tesla that's what
07:09you get in the back you get a decent
07:12amount of leg and head room although the
07:14floor is a little on the high side the
07:16rear seats have been angled slightly
07:18differently so as to make the back rest
07:19a bit more comfortable there's an
07:21armrest with cup holders and most
07:23interesting of all a new touchcreen that
07:25lets you control the airon media and
07:27watch videos including on the YouTube
07:32app I've been quite looking forward to
07:34driving this car because Tesla are
07:36talking quite a good game when it comes
07:38to improvements I actually own a model Y
07:41and I've driven countless model 3s so I
07:43know all about those cars shortcomings
07:46and I know what I'm expecting from a big
07:48upgrade now the big thing for me is
07:50going to be the suspension and I will
07:52come back to it in just a second I want
07:54to experience the car and then give you
07:56my honest take so before that let's talk
07:59about about this car's other big talking
08:01point and that is the steering wheel
08:03I've got to say it takes quite a bit of
08:05getting used to when I first jumped into
08:07this car the first thing I did was reach
08:09for invisible stalks to put it into gear
08:11and to indicate and I kind of felt like
08:13an idiot because obviously there's
08:14nothing there if you want to put it into
08:16drive or reverse you got to slow down to
08:18an appropriate speed and then slide it
08:20into drive or reverse and if you want to
08:22indicate you got to use these capacitive
08:24buttons on the left hand side now it
08:27does take some time to get your head
08:29wrapped around it particularly because
08:32the buttons keep moving if you're on a
08:33Bend they're not on the left anymore
08:34they might be up or down or if you're
08:36going around and round about they're
08:38constantly all over the place so what I
08:40found was that I had to physically look
08:42at the steering wheel to identify
08:45exactly where they were located and
08:47obviously that means you're taking your
08:48eyes off the road it's not the safest
08:52world okay I thought I'd need longer but
08:55I've driven it enough I can tell you
08:56straight away the suspension in this car
08:58is much better than the previous
09:01generation they've changed the springs
09:02and dampers they've changed the bushings
09:04they've changed the suspension geometry
09:06at the front and the whole thing just
09:08feels a lot more comfortable they say
09:11it's about 25% better in terms of impact
09:13noise than before in other words if you
09:15go into a big speed bump that big thud
09:17you get is reduced quite significantly
09:20and I've got to say yeah I believe him
09:22the whole thing feels a lot more slick
09:25and smooth and comfortable and nice than
09:28before it's doesn't feel like a
09:31Tesla the other thing is that the car's
09:34very very quiet now Tesla say they've
09:36improved the ambient Noise by 30% so
09:39you're less likely to hear things going
09:41on outside and that includes the horn
09:44would you believe it so if I beep it it
09:47sounds like it's barely on it's a much
09:49more calm and quiet place to be the road
09:52noise is also been improved by 20% as
09:54well and that's partly down to the tires
09:57and also Better Sound insulation all
09:59around the car so it just feels like a
10:02much more luxurious thing to drive than
10:04before it's it's actually much much
10:06better than the previous
10:08generation there are two obvious upsides
10:11to that increase in refinement the first
10:14is that because it's quieter you can
10:16enjoy the stereo more the previous car
10:19had 14 speakers this has 17 speakers and
10:22they sound absolutely immense this has
10:25one of the best sound systems I've heard
10:27in pretty much any car to be honest it
10:29sounds great the other Advantage is that
10:31if you're on a phone call people can
10:33hear you better and you can hear them
10:34better also Tesla used to have a single
10:37microphone in their cars but now they've
10:40actually got two microphones and each
10:41one of those is better than the previous
10:43generation microphone which means that
10:45the sound quality that other people hear
10:47from you and your passengers is much
10:51before hear that so that noise is new
10:54that is a speed warning so if you go
10:57slightly above the speed limit as I just
11:00did or didn't do um basically the car
11:02warns you and tells you to slow down and
11:05that's all part of a new EU law where
11:07pretty much every single new car has to
11:10have that feature you can actually
11:11disable it by tapping the button there
11:13to shut it up but it's a pretty useful
11:16addition in terms of helping you stay
11:17under the speed limit in terms of power
11:20and performance it's pretty much as you
11:22were this is the dual motor long range
11:25which means it's got a motor at the back
11:26a motor at the front and in total they
11:28make 490 horsepower which is very
11:32impressive as well sports car territory
11:34isn't it and that means it'll do na to
11:3562 in 4.4 seconds and it's yeah just as
11:41responsive as ever this will defeat many
11:44a hatchback many a sports car in terms
11:46of that initial acceleration the top
11:48speed is a bit lower than before so the
11:50previous car did 145 mph this only does
11:54I say only it does 125 mph and the
11:58reason for that is because believe it or
12:00not the tires they've gone for much more
12:03comfortable much more quiet tires than
12:05they had on the previous generation car
12:08and these tires are not rated for high
12:10speeds they only got to a maximum of 125
12:13mph safely which I think is a pretty
12:15decent compromise Because unless you
12:17live you know next to an autoban pretty
12:20much nobody is going to be driving an
12:22electric car at Auto bar
12:26speeds right I'm just going to pull into
12:28this little area to show you a little
12:30known feature on this new model 3 so
12:33let's say I park up against this wall
12:35right this car will actually select
12:38reverse or drive for me depending on
12:41your surroundings you don't have to do
12:43it the car does it so you get in shut
12:45the door put your seat belt on and
12:48instantly the car knows I've got a
12:50reverse so I just tap the brake pedal it
12:53goes into reverse and now I accelerate
12:56and it goes backwards how cool is that
12:58let's see if it works the other way
13:00around so I'll go into drive and I'll
13:02reverse up against the exact same wall
13:06theory it should know that there's
13:08something behind me and the gear that it
13:12be Drive instead of reverse so all right
13:16there's a wall behind me I put it into
13:19Park seat belt off door open door shut I
13:24in tap the brake I'm going to accelerate
13:27will it go forward yeah very clever
13:30isn't it it knows your surroundings and
13:32will automatically select forward or
13:37necessary the one really cool thing that
13:39I like about the steering wheel is that
13:41it has this camera button on it easily
13:43accessible you push that and suddenly
13:45you get the rear-facing camera and the
13:47two side facing cameras on the car and
13:49that's really useful when you're trying
13:50to maneuver in town or you're trying to
13:53parallel park to know exactly where the
13:55curb is that is quite a nice
13:57touch here's something that's quite
14:00annoying I've just noticed it and that
14:01is this new dashboard with your new
14:04ambient lights there's an annoying
14:06reflection all the way along the bottom
14:09third of the wind screen and that's
14:13there yeah I don't like that I mean it
14:15looks pretty but there's a line in my
14:18way range is better than the current
14:20generation model 3 not because of the
14:22batteries but because of the improved
14:24efficiency the entry level rear wheel
14:26drive car which cost £ 39,900 will go
14:29344 Mi and the long range which is 10
14:32grand more will go 421 Mi which you'll
14:35really like if you travel long distances
14:38now here's a few things you might not
14:40like these seats are really good very
14:42comfortable but are the fans a bit noisy
14:45for the ventilation also where's my
14:47massaging seats even an astra's got
14:49massaging seats now Elon annoyingly the
14:52model 3 is still not a hatchback it's a
14:54saloon which means this boot lid doesn't
14:57open very wide look at that the glass
14:59gets in the way so even though you get a
15:00big boot the actual opening is Tiny
15:03which means the space isn't really
15:05maximized this screen again is super
15:08busy it has all the functionality in the
15:10world but it still doesn't have Apple
15:13carplay or Android auto why the car has
15:17all the cameras in the world including
15:18rear front left and right but it still
15:21doesn't have a bird ey View Camera to
15:23help you park in a space you might have
15:26noticed the car doesn't have any
15:27ultrasonic parking sensors and that's
15:30because it uses cameras to judge how far
15:32away it is from obstacles like people
15:34and things and it's not very accurate
15:37why do I need Elon musk's sense of humor
15:39to do normal everyday stuff to open the
15:41charge port I've got to do this open
15:45butthole it's all a bit
15:52childish so what's the verdict any good
15:55definitely I think this is a really nice
15:58impr Improvement on the previous
15:59generation model 3 the refinement is
16:02excellent I love the suspension I love
16:05the quietness I think it looks better
16:07than it did before it drives pretty much
16:10just as well as it did in the previous
16:12generation but now just feels a little
16:13bit more grown up a bit more premium and
16:16as a result is more desirable than
16:19ever if you were ever put off buying a
16:22model 3 because you didn't think it was
16:24premium or fancy enough then I think
16:26this car might just change your
