00:00finding budget pedals that are made well
00:02creative and unique can be very
00:05difficult but on today's episode I'm
00:07going to show you one of my favorite
00:09budget lines that are currently produced
00:20giulio has been making pedals for a very
00:23long time and the R series also known as
00:26the revolution series was dropped in
00:29late 2018 I think this whole series has
00:32flown underneath the radar for several
00:34years and I just don't see them out
00:37there a lot I think they're made really
00:38well they're in a really cool unique
00:40enclosure the circuits sound great
00:43they're made to last and they have some
00:45innovative sounds in them so I'm gonna
00:47walk you through my favorite seven of
00:50these I think the entire line is around
00:5214 and I'm gonna talk about them a bit
00:55and demo and then by the end of this
00:57maybe you will have found a cool new
01:00affordable pedal that you didn't know
01:02existed so let's get going the first
01:05pedal I want to show you is the EZ it
01:07costs $49 which is really amazing and it
01:12it is a marshall and a box british style
01:16amplifier sound and it's really really
01:20now it has a super powerful eq low mid
01:23and high and then this bias control is
01:26is the winner the bias control changes
01:30how this pedal reacts it's how it sags
01:32it makes it feel like it has more
01:35wattage or less wattage and responds
01:37under your fingers you're picking attack
01:39it's really fantastic it makes this
01:41really versatile and one thing I like
01:44about this pedal mainly because of this
01:46bias control is I can tune in high gain
01:49overdrive sounds that I really love and
01:52would use whereas I won't use massive
01:55wall of sound modern marshall sounds i
01:58just don't play that style of music but
02:00I do love coaxing pool on the edge of
02:04distortion and overdrive sounds out of
02:05pedals like this and this one's really
02:07cool and it does it very very well
03:14next up is the XVI this pedal is $90
03:19which for some people you might go is
03:22that budget it actually is because of
03:25how good this pedal does its job now
03:28this is a polyphonic octave pedal
03:30meaning you can track multiple notes you
03:33have a division of the low sub and the
03:36high upper octave you can blend in your
03:39dry signal and it has this really cool
03:41and unique feature of the mod control
03:44this adds movement and modulation into
03:47the octave and in some cases you can get
03:50like this Spacey Leslie sound it's
03:53really cool and I find unique sounds in
03:56this that I haven't really found in
03:58other octaves if you missed the episode
04:01a couple weeks ago what's in Josh's
04:03mailbox I actually demo this with a big
04:06muff style pedal and its massive it's
04:09like that Black Keys white stripes thing
04:11it's just incredible so go watch that
04:13I'm just gonna demo it clean so you can
04:16experience kind of how the controls work
04:18but it's really great it's super useful
04:21and it makes a great addition to anyone
04:24who finds themselves playing riffs if
04:27you use a lot of distortion and fuzz
04:28it's awesome yeah it's awesome and it's
04:32just awesome I think some pedals are
04:33awesome I need to play them because
05:29next up is the Aquarius delay looper so
05:34this is 8 delays and then a looper and
05:37it has tap tempo if you hold this down
05:40it turns into a tap control now this
05:43pedal is super solid because it has all
05:46the classic sounds you want it has 2
05:49Beco tape echo a really nice reverse
05:52which you know I'm a fan of analog
05:54digital it has a low bit that's really
05:56cool a modulated delay but the star of
06:01this pedal is a mode called galaxy it is
06:05so good so spectacular it's a it's like
06:10to lay with phasing a little flange and
06:14like like some LFO of like a tremolo
06:18movement Auto swell I don't even know I
06:21don't even care what it is it just
06:22sounds like Pink Floyd and Incubus got
06:25together for some kind of Vans Warped
06:28Tour I don't think that's that good
06:30that analogy but you just got to hear
06:32this it's worth every dime of $90 for
06:36that one sound I'm just gonna play it
06:39and you be the judge because you are the
06:41judge that that's what you are
07:14next up is the torrent it's a 55 dollar
07:18overdrive that I really really like now
07:21what is it what does it sound like I
07:23think that needs to be answered with my
07:26Google search what is a Turin Turin are
07:30huge nomadic creatures who live on the
07:32grassy open plains of mogh or in central
07:36Kalimdor turin are large muscular
07:39humanoids and bovine and appearance
07:43complete with hooves and horns torrents
07:46stand anywhere from 9 to 12 feet tall so
07:49they're my height and they weigh 650 to
07:52a thousand pounds that's that's me in
07:53the winter now it's it's also world of
07:58warcraft now I'm hit I know that's a
08:01video game I haven't played it because
08:03I've played fallout 4 for 7 years but we
08:08all know this is based around the Cline
08:10and yeah it does the konbu thing yeah
08:14yeah yada yada yada I don't care for
08:16that I'm gonna put it where I would
08:18normally put a claw on some high gain
08:20overdrive I'm gonna add some tape delay
08:22from that amazing delay and yeah you're
09:16next up is the atmosphere this is the
09:19reverb offering from this line reverbs
09:23in the budget area have gotten better
09:26and better because of certain
09:27technologies and this is a real standout
09:29to me because I'm really proud of Jo in
09:33the fact that they did some classic
09:36sounds you know plate church which is
09:38like hall and a spring and then from
09:41there it's chaos they went nuts
09:43I mean Echo verb shimmer comet rewind
09:47forest pulse it's a bunch of crazy
09:49reverbs and I like every one of them so
09:52I'm just gonna play through this I'm
09:53gonna dink around change the controls
09:55it has a nice mod control you can add in
09:58movement and the tone is nice too dark
10:01in that decay or brighten it up oh yeah
10:05its $90 and that's again a really great
11:18next is the zip and it costs $52 let's
11:23be honest that's like three Starbucks
11:25Kappa Fratus and that's a good deal now
11:28this has low and high controls volume
11:31and drive and then you have a clipping
11:32control for normal open is like a nice
11:35powerful clean boost to drive and then
11:38the comp which I really like it's more
11:40distorted it's like a lower headroom amp
11:42now this really to me excels as a medium
11:47gain Drive now I don't have my strat
11:49here at home but this would be pure fire
11:53with the strap it's great with every
11:55guitar I have here but I can sense that
11:57this wants a strat so if you play a
12:00strat just know that I know that because
12:03I play tons of pedals and this this
12:04wants to meet your strap
12:06now I'm gonna demo it I'm gonna do low
12:09get into some higher game tones but yeah
12:11it really excels at what it does I'm
12:13gonna add some normal spring reverb from
12:16the atmosphere let's do this
13:15last but not least is the CAD box it's a
13:18hundred and ninety-nine dollars and I
13:21want to explain why that's a great deal
13:25and why this is a budget pedal now this
13:28is so much more than a pedal because
13:30it's a cab simulator emulator and an IR
13:34loader now what this means is for some
13:37of you you can't use a real guitar amp
13:40all the time you need to play at home
13:42you need some way to listen through
13:44headphones or run direct out into your
13:47DAW for home recording or you play at
13:49venues where an amp isn't allowed
13:50because it's too loud in the front of
13:52house now this is the solution and this
13:56one is really cool it's made really well
13:59sounds great and my favorite part is
14:02it's really simple to use like I don't
14:05get along with hyper digital banks and
14:07categories and all these choices and I
14:10figured this out without the manual it
14:12was pretty intuitive
14:13now I are loading is available in this
14:16meaning you can download different IRS I
14:19don't want to get into that here go
14:21watch some videos I might do one later
14:22there's tons of great videos out there
14:25but this is fantastic and I'm gonna demo
14:28it but I've actually tricked you because
14:31I've been demoing it this whole time you
14:34weren't actually hearing the amp in the
14:36video you were hearing this direct in
14:41yeah you've been hearing this the whole
14:43time I know it's like that Chris Farley
14:46Folgers crystals thing where you're
14:48furious you're flipping tables but if it
14:51sounds good it is good and yeah I'm
14:58gonna demo this what you've been hearing
15:01and what I'm gonna start with is an amp
15:03that I made it's a 112 57 tweed fender
15:07style amp I did 6l6 tubes and a u-87
15:12microphone I placed the mic where I
15:13wanted it and it's awesome I can't
15:16complain it's got tons of features I
15:20with my guitar through I went out to
15:25and just so I could compare and then the
15:27output I went out of the XLR straight
15:29into my interface and that's what you've
15:31been hearing and that's what you're
15:32about to hear now I'll flip do some amps
16:46today's record time is brought to you by
16:49the 1995 Pearl Jam single has two tracks
16:54on it it's called Merkin ball and it's
16:57awesome and it's kind of a hidden track
17:01that I love as a Pearl Jam fan and I
17:04don't think a lot of people realize this
17:05exists now in 95 Pearl Jam and Neil
17:09Young became BFFs and Pearl Jam played
17:12on Neil's album mirror ball
17:14now Eddie Vedder had written a couple
17:16tracks and he did vocals on those tracks
17:19and guitars and they couldn't get along
17:22their labels they would not let Eddie
17:24appear on the olds album so Pearl Jam
17:28released those two songs
17:30I got ID and long road just as singles
17:34now I got ID is really really important
17:37for me because I remember the first time
17:39I heard it I was so captivated already
17:42loved Pearl Jam and the guitar solo was
17:46like what is this well it's Neil Young I
17:48didn't know who know young was this is
17:50probably in hindsight my first
17:53experience with Neil and the guitar solo
17:56makes no sense the tone is crazy the
17:59technique is super bizarre but it's pure
18:02magic Brendan O'Brien the producer for
18:05Pearl Jam plays bass on that track which
18:08is awesome I'm a huge fan of him so this
18:10is cool it's a really fun kind of lost
18:13song songs that I love but primarily I
18:16got ID which is track 1 I'm a big fan of
18:19it check it out and in the comments

19:19lights up all the time you can turn that
19:22feature off or on with a dip switch
