00:00 well hello there and welcome back to
00:01 thomas frank explains in this video
00:03 you're going to learn how to create your
00:04 own personal dashboard inside of notion
00:06 now a personal dashboard is basically
00:08 your home base inside of notion which
00:10 can give you quick access to lots of
00:12 other useful areas such as your task
00:14 manager your note-taking system your
00:16 project manager or you can even embed
00:18 linked database views right inside of
00:20 your dashboard so you can do things from
00:22 a single centralized page like add tasks
00:25 to your inbox add notes to your note
00:27 inbox etc so in this video you're going
00:29 to learn exactly how to build this
00:31 example dashboard right here and if you
00:34 saw my last video on block basics which
00:35 was part of the notion fundamentals
00:37 course here on youtube and over my
00:38 website as well you will know that this
00:40 new personal dashboard is the example
00:43 that we're using to illustrate a lot of
00:44 the concepts that we are talking about
00:46 and teaching inside of notion
00:48 fundamentals so i wanted to make this
00:51 personally my own learning style is such
00:53 that if there's a project that we're
00:55 going through very slowly in a course to
00:57 explain lots of different concepts
00:58 sometimes i want to be able to go and do
01:02 right away even if i don't fully
01:03 understand everything that's going on
01:05 and actually in education research and
01:07 cognitive science there is a concept
01:08 called backfilling where you go through
01:11 a project where you kind of get outside
01:13 of your comfort zone you accomplish
01:14 something where you're kind of a little
01:15 bit fuzzy or vague on some of the
01:17 concepts but in doing so you have
01:19 reached outside of your comfort zone
01:21 you've grabbed a handhold and that's
01:22 actually going to help you to more
01:23 quickly backfill the required knowledge
01:26 to become a true expert so this video
01:28 this tutorial is that concept in action
01:30 we are going to completely build this
01:32 personal dashboard which you'll then be
01:34 able to build for yourself if you want
01:35 and then if you want to you can watch
01:37 the rest of the videos and notion
01:38 fundamentals as they come out and you're
01:39 going to be able to get deep into the
01:41 details of how every single thing is
01:43 working so uh the inspiration for this
01:46 personal dashboard here is actually my
01:48 own personal dashboard which we'll look
01:49 at right here and this is basically
01:51 where i start whenever i come into
01:53 notion i've got links to my tasks all my
01:56 views from ultimate tasks my today
01:58 tomorrow next seven days i've got links
02:00 to my note inbox my habit tracker and
02:02 some specific notes that i'm revisiting
02:04 very often like the barbell academy
02:06 principles notes of course i'm taking
02:08 right now odcc was of course i just
02:10 finished i've got some content that i'm
02:11 working on projects and quick links so i
02:14 use a very link heavy philosophy when
02:16 i'm building my personal dashboard i
02:18 want to just kind of use this as a
02:19 jumping off point to get to certain
02:21 places inside my workspace but there's
02:23 another personal dashboard philosophy
02:25 that a lot of people use and that you
02:27 might want to use as well and that is
02:30 embedded and linked databases to be able
02:33 to actually do some work on your
02:35 personal dashboard so here on the
02:36 example one that we're going to build we
02:38 actually have a toggle here with an
02:39 inbox where you can add new tasks to
02:41 your task manager and we also have the
02:44 pretty much the same thing here for your
02:45 note-taking inbox if you want to add
02:47 some notes to your inbox you can do it
02:48 right from the dashboard so you're going
02:50 to learn in this tutorial how to build
02:51 this from scratch exactly and as a bonus
02:54 i'm going to show you near the end of
02:55 the tutorial how to add this little
02:56 weather widget which is something that
02:58 comes from a third-party tool called
02:59 indify which is free so i'll show you
03:01 that near the end but first we have to
03:02 actually get this page built so i need
03:04 myself a blank page to start from and i
03:06 would actually like to have that page
03:08 inside of the content project here in
03:10 notion for this very video so you are
03:12 going to get a quick sneak peek at
03:14 creator's companion which is the system
03:16 that we use at my company to manage all
03:17 of our content projects across all of
03:19 our different channels but which is also
03:21 a template that i currently have in beta
03:23 you can see the sales page linked down
03:25 below there are still a few spots open
03:27 as of me recording this video and then
03:29 we're going to be closing them and
03:31 reopening at full price in early october
03:33 anyway i'm gonna go over to my thomas
03:35 frank explains page right here and find
03:38 this in progress project which is going
03:40 to be how to create a personal dashboard
03:42 in notion under ready to record
03:44 and then within here i've got a little
03:46 example area with this personal
03:48 dashboard blank page so let's get this
03:50 shindig on the road and the first thing
03:51 that i want to do is actually go up here
03:53 and make this a full width page
03:57 once that's done i need to add my
03:59 headings so i'm going to do h2 for tasks
04:01 i'm going to do another h2 for notes i'm
04:04 going to do one for web links
04:11 that is going to be about it now one
04:12 thing that i like to do with my headings
04:13 is give them backgrounds so i can do
04:15 slash gray to get great background and
04:17 do the same thing for all these
04:19 and i also like to use emoji to make my
04:22 headings a little bit more visually
04:23 distinctive so i'm going to go ahead and
04:25 all right so the next thing i'm going to
04:26 do is actually start creating my
04:28 multi-column layout so i know i want
04:29 notes to be to the right of tasks i'm
04:32 going to go ahead and have web links
04:34 underneath tasks and then reference
04:37 and then if we look back at our personal
04:39 dashboard we actually had this pretty
04:41 sweet picture of bruce lee so i'm going
04:43 to go ahead and do and view original
04:46 here so i can actually open
04:48 the original photo here in amazon aws
04:52 which is where notions stores things
04:53 just so i can copy it to my clipboard
04:56 and then we can go with our control back
04:58 bracket to the one we're building and go
05:00 ahead and just paste that photo right
05:02 there i'm gonna drag that
05:04 to the right to get our final column and
05:07 resize that slightly and really i just
05:10 want his picture here so i can also add
05:11 my favorite quote of all time adapt what
05:14 is useful reject what is useless and add
05:16 what is specifically your own by bruce
05:19 lee this is something i think about
05:20 pretty much every day whenever i'm
05:22 learning things or when i'm getting
05:24 suggested to try new things people are
05:26 telling me to try new tools or i'm
05:27 reading self-improvement material i'm
05:29 always keeping this quote in mind i'm
05:31 going to adapt the things that are good
05:33 things that don't necessarily fit my own
05:35 life fit my own needs i'm going to
05:36 reject and i'm going to tweak things
05:38 remix things try things out and you know
05:40 add what is specifically my own and i
05:42 would recommend keeping that in mind
05:44 when creating this dashboard or creating
05:46 basically anything based off a tutorial
05:50 the thing that i'm creating here is what
05:52 works for me and there may be some
05:54 tweaks that you could actually add to it
05:55 to make it even better for you so now
05:57 what i want to start doing is building
05:59 out the content underneath these
06:00 headings and the first thing that i want
06:02 to do is actually add horizontal rules
06:07 typing slash and then typing divider
06:10 which does work you can simply type
06:12 three dashes to get a horizontal rule
06:15 and that just visually separates the
06:17 content underneath the heading from the
06:18 heading itself which i like and the next
06:20 thing that i want to do is actually
06:22 build up the tasks section so what i'm
06:23 going to do is go over to ultimate tasks
06:25 now this is a completely free task
06:28 template and system that i have over my
06:30 website you can check this out if you
06:31 want i think it is the best task
06:34 management system for notion at least
06:35 the best that i've seen and what i
06:36 actually want to do is take these views
06:39 here and create links to them from our
06:42 little personal dashboard that we're
06:44 creating so i'm going to go into the
06:47 today link here and this is the today
06:49 page where we see tasks that are due
06:50 today and i'm just going to hit control
06:53 and then go back to our personal
06:55 dashboard which i want to actually
06:57 favorite now so it's at the top here and
06:58 we should give it an icon while we're
07:01 maybe we're going to give it this cool
07:02 little nerd face and if i just
07:05 hit ctrl v to paste this i can create
07:07 either a mention to this page or a link
07:09 to this page now when we're creating a
07:11 personal dashboard i would highly
07:12 recommend hitting link because if we hit
07:15 link what we are going to get is an
07:18 actual link to page block and the
07:20 difference between a page mentioned
07:22 inside a notion and a link to page block
07:24 is that when you use the link to page
07:25 block if you come over here and look at
07:27 the sidebar we actually get a link to
07:30 that page in the sidebar so one of the
07:32 most important and most useful aspects
07:34 of a personal dashboard i think is to
07:36 favorite it and have it at the top of
07:37 your favorites bar here in notion so you
07:39 can toggle it open and have really quick
07:41 sidebar access to all of your most
07:43 important pages within your notion
07:45 workspace if you don't want something to
07:48 be in the sidebar if you want it to be
07:50 simply on the dashboard itself well
07:51 that's pretty easy all you need to do is
07:53 go ahead and delete this here and then
07:57 paste our link and make it a mention now
07:59 if it's a mention it's going to be
08:00 slightly smaller the arrow here is going
08:02 to be slightly smaller as well and
08:03 you'll notice that if we toggle this
08:04 open no pages are listed inside so
08:07 there's a difference between mentions
08:08 and page links and i would really like
08:10 it to be a page link so i do get that
08:13 cool little sidebar link all right so
08:14 we're gonna do the same with all the
08:16 other pages that i want linked here so i
08:17 at least want tomorrow and next seven
08:19 days so i'm gonna go into tomorrow grab
08:22 go back and then i can switch over to my
08:24 next seven days grab that as well
08:27 and while we're building out our tasks
08:29 section one other thing that i want
08:30 there is going to be a habit tracker and
08:32 this is yet another template that i've
08:34 built it's free you can check it out
08:35 link in description down below to go and
08:37 copy that and head back to our personal
08:40 dashboard and add that to the bottom of
08:42 our list of tasks so now i have really
08:44 quick access to my today tomorrow next
08:46 seven days tasks views along with my
08:48 habit tracker but i want to make this
08:50 dashboard a little bit more interactive
08:51 so i want to have an actual embedded
08:54 of my inbox so i can quickly add inbox
08:57 tasks directly from the dashboard so if
09:00 i hit plus here i can start typing
09:02 linked database and if i click this i
09:04 can actually start searching for a
09:06 database inside of my workspace to
09:07 create a linked view of it so if i
09:13 this is a sample all tasks database and
09:16 this would literally embed that database
09:19 here and if i were to click here i would
09:21 actually see the original database
09:23 itself so from there i could go in here
09:25 and i could start adding filters and
09:26 sorts to make this a pseudo inbox view
09:28 but that is a duplication of effort that
09:31 i don't actually want to go through
09:32 because there is a much much smarter way
09:33 to do this which is going to be going
09:36 over to our inbox and actually duplicate
09:38 that view that's already there with its
09:40 existing filters and sorts and simply
09:42 bring it over to our personal dashboard
09:43 so i'm going to click today because i
09:45 happen to know there is a quick link to
09:46 inbox from the today view in ultimate
09:48 tasks and all i need to do is go ahead
09:51 and well first i'm going to un
09:55 name because i want it to be all tasks i
09:57 just need a unique name to get to it i'm
09:59 going to go ahead and duplicate this
10:02 and now i have a basically exact copy of
10:04 this linked database which has the
10:06 complex filters and sorts that enable
10:08 this to work really well as an inbox and
10:10 all i need to do is basically get it
10:16 come back to our personal dashboard
10:20 and there it is now because this is a
10:22 personal dashboard with many different
10:23 columns i'm going to want the list view
10:25 which is much better when it comes to
10:27 responsive or pretty narrow columns to
10:29 be our default so i'm going to go ahead
10:31 and drag that to the top and make sure
10:33 we're always looking at it and last but
10:35 not least i'm going to hit plus here
10:37 type a little arrow bracket here to get
10:40 a toggle and i'm going to
10:48 and then type inbox
10:51 so i'm going to have this in a toggle
10:54 this will often have quite a few tasks
10:56 in it and i want it to be hidden by
10:58 default one last thing that i'll do here
11:00 go to the little three dot and i'm going
11:02 to check the properties to see how many
11:06 tasks we're loading on first page load
11:08 right now we're loading 50 and i
11:10 actually would like it to load just 10
11:12 because really what i'm going to be
11:14 doing with this is looking at anything
11:16 due today which is going to be sorted to
11:17 the top that's in the inbox but also i
11:20 want it just as a really quick way to
11:21 add a new task if i'm on the dashboard i
11:23 don't want to see 50 different tasks if
11:25 there do happen to be that many in there
11:27 if we really want to see it we can
11:28 simply just go to the inbox itself
11:31 so that is our tasks area finished and
11:34 now let's go ahead and create our notes
11:35 area and guess what i have yet another
11:37 free template which we are going to use
11:39 to add some links to our note-taking
11:41 system and an embedded note-taking
11:43 database so if you haven't seen it
11:45 before i do have if you go over to my
11:47 thomas frank's notion templates and go
11:49 to my note-taking system i've got a
11:50 note-taking system template for notion
11:52 again this is free i'm going to come to
11:53 the demo version of it and i want to go
11:55 ahead and grab number one the link to
11:57 the note taking system itself so ctrl l
12:00 go back to my personal dashboard and
12:02 we're going to create ourselves a page
12:05 boom and the last thing that i want to
12:07 do with the note taking system here is
12:08 actually go into it and i want this
12:10 inbox to be on my personal dashboard so
12:13 just like with tasks i can add a note to
12:15 the dash to the inbox without having to
12:17 go to the note-taking system itself we
12:19 want to make this personal dashboard a
12:20 multi-functional place in our notion
12:22 workspace now there's a difference
12:25 between this and the task inbox which is
12:28 that i can't simply duplicate this
12:29 because if you'll notice there's not a
12:31 little arrow here which means that this
12:32 is not actually a linked database view
12:35 this is just a plain old database inside
12:37 a notion which means that if i copy it
12:39 i'm going to be creating an actual copy
12:41 of the database and if i add pages to
12:43 that copy they're not going to show up
12:44 here i want them to show up here so i
12:47 need to actually create a linked
12:48 database and you're going to get to see
12:49 an example of that so i'm going to go
12:51 ahead and give this a unique name first
12:53 again i'm a template creator i've got
12:55 many copies of this demo inbox that are
12:57 just like you know backup copies things
12:59 i've been building the past so i'm going
13:00 to call it pd demo inbox for now for
13:02 personal dashboard and i'm going to go
13:04 ahead and go create a linked database so
13:07 we just need to go back hit plus type
13:10 and again this is creating basically a
13:13 window to that exact database in a
13:15 different page of our notion workspace
13:16 and the nice thing about link databases
13:18 is not only do they let you see a
13:20 database from a different location but
13:21 they also let you create unique sorts
13:23 filters and views from that linkedin
13:25 database so let's go ahead and type pd
13:27 demo inbox there it is
13:29 and now that i've got that created i can
13:31 go ahead and get rid of our unique name
13:33 and make it demo inbox once again just
13:36 needed to have a unique name so i can
13:37 search it for it very easily and all i
13:39 need to do is replicate the filters and
13:42 sorts that i had over here in the demo
13:44 inbox itself so if we look at it they're
13:46 pretty simple we have where status is
13:48 not empty or url is not empty so we'll
13:50 add those and then we have a sort where
13:52 updated is descending so let's go ahead
13:54 and add those to our little embedded
13:56 version here our linked version by going
13:58 first to filters we're going to add a
14:04 and is not empty and this just ensures
14:06 that a default status is always applied
14:07 to every new note that is created and
14:10 then we're going to also add or
14:12 where url is not empty and the reason
14:14 that we do this is that notions web
14:16 clipper if you use it to clip something
14:18 into a a database here it will not
14:21 respect forcing functions which is what
14:23 this is here where i think we have where
14:25 status is not empty that would force a
14:27 status tag in that select property the
14:30 notion web clipper doesn't respect that
14:31 it's kind of a bug so we have an or
14:33 property because we know that the notion
14:35 web clipper is going to add a url which
14:38 is going to be the url of whatever page
14:39 you clicked so we've got those two there
14:40 and then we're going to go here once
14:42 again click sort and we are going to
14:46 updated and descending you could also do
14:48 created if you want to but i prefer to
14:50 see the note that has been changed most
14:53 recently at the top even if it has been
14:55 created a long time ago so i know what
14:56 i've been working on and i just realized
14:58 that this is a table view but what i'd
14:59 really actually want this to be is a
15:01 list view just like this inbox view here
15:04 so here i need to show you a weird
15:07 notion trick that uh doctors don't want
15:10 oh maybe they want you know i don't know
15:12 weird notion trick that helps us get
15:14 around a little bit of a limitation in
15:16 the notion product itself and that is
15:18 the fact that i cannot duplicate this
15:20 view if i have not added another view so
15:23 here's what we're going to do we're
15:23 going to click add a view
15:25 and we're going to call it dummy
15:28 and literally the only reason we have
15:30 created this view is to get access to
15:32 this little drop down list which gives
15:34 us access to all of our views and gets
15:36 us access to this three dot button on
15:38 the original table view which i can then
15:41 and hit duplicate on
15:44 so this now gets me a duplicate version
15:46 of the view that we've already used to
15:48 create filters and sorts and i can go
15:50 ahead and change that to sorry not a
15:52 board view a list view
15:54 so there it is what we could also do is
15:56 simply change table to a list view
16:00 and we still have our filters and we
16:01 still have our sorts so that is a trick
16:03 for creating duplicates of views that
16:05 you've already you know done a lot of
16:06 hard work to create filters and sorts on
16:08 you just need to create a dummy view and
16:10 then once it's created we can go ahead
16:11 and delete it in this case because we
16:14 just changed the original view to a list
16:16 view i'm going to go ahead and get rid
16:17 of this copy as well just wanted to let
16:20 you see that trick for both of its
16:21 intended uses so we'll go ahead and
16:23 remove that and now we have our demo
16:25 inbox linked database along with our
16:27 link to the note-taking system itself
16:29 now let's fill out this little web links
16:30 area and this is going to be a very
16:32 simple part of the tutorial all i'm
16:34 going to do is simply click plus here
16:35 and i'm going to paste a url which gives
16:38 us a couple of different options we can
16:39 either dismiss it which we'll just leave
16:41 the url on screen here we can create an
16:43 embed which will actually embed the page
16:45 itself or we can create a bookmark which
16:47 is exactly what i want to do here so
16:49 this is just an area which would have
16:50 very quick access to websites that i'm
16:52 often using so i kind of want that one
16:54 as well and i also would love to have my
16:59 so i'm going to go ahead and type
17:01 dot thomas jframe.com which is the
17:03 circle community that we are using for
17:05 the creators companion tutorial where
17:07 people can get support things like that
17:09 so i'm going to go ahead and have that
17:10 on my dashboard as well all right so
17:12 moving on to the reference area for me
17:14 this is just an area of my dashboard
17:16 where i put links to pages that i'm
17:18 visiting quite often they might be pages
17:19 for projects they might be places where
17:21 i'm brain dumping like trying to you
17:23 know make a gigantic video that's going
17:25 to take months i want to have really
17:26 quick access to all that kind of stuff
17:28 so i'm going to put it in my reference
17:29 area or maybe i'm going to favorite it
17:31 and put it on my favorites bar but the
17:32 nice thing again is that if we use the
17:34 reference area and we use link to page
17:36 blocks we are going to have you can
17:38 actually see right here all of these
17:40 links to pages so for example i've got
17:42 my notion fundamentals
17:44 public supplemental database here where
17:46 everyone come in and get their
17:47 supplemental materials for notion
17:48 fundamentals boom it's right there
17:50 linked right underneath my personal
17:52 dashboard that is why this is so
17:54 powerful so let's go ahead and create
17:56 ourselves a personal dashboard by uh
17:58 getting some pages underneath reference
17:59 and actually the first one i want to
18:01 create is a brand new page which i'm
18:03 going to call quotes
18:05 i personally like having a page in my
18:07 workspace where i can just record quotes
18:10 that i think are cool so i'm going to go
18:11 ahead and paste some quotes in here and
18:14 if i have new quotes that i come across
18:16 when i'm reading or doing online
18:17 research i can easily come into my
18:19 personal dashboard from my favorites bar
18:21 here and add a quote which is pretty
18:23 sweet i also want to have a couple of
18:25 links here so let's go back to ultimate
18:27 tasks and let's just say i want to have
18:29 a really quick link to this website
18:31 redesign project that i'm working on so
18:33 i'm going to go ahead and grab that with
18:35 ctrl l go back to our personal dashboard
18:37 and once again you know the drill
18:41 paste that and create a link to page so
18:44 my sidebar so at this point our little
18:46 personal dashboard is coming together
18:48 quite nicely and it's looking very
18:50 similar to what we had in the intro to
18:52 the video but we are missing a few
18:54 things we are missing this little
18:55 weather widget which is coming but we
18:57 are also missing these little areas at
18:59 the top of the dashboard which i think
19:00 you are going to want to include
19:02 specifically and especially this little
19:04 quick links bar here so let's get these
19:06 things added and then we are going to go
19:07 work on the weather widget so first and
19:09 foremost i want a quick links bar so
19:12 what is a quick links bar well it is
19:13 simply a toggle that has a table of
19:16 contents widget in it
19:18 and the reason you would want this is
19:21 that if you are looking at your personal
19:22 dashboard on your phone all of this is
19:24 going to collapse down to a single
19:26 column and that means if you have a lot
19:28 of content underneath each of these
19:29 headings you're going to have to scroll
19:31 a lot looking for the thing you're
19:32 trying to find but if you've got a quick
19:34 links bar like this you can easily click
19:37 this little thing and you'll note that
19:38 here it just highlights it in blue
19:40 because it's already on the screen but
19:42 if you were using your phone it would
19:43 also zoom you straight down to this
19:46 section which is very handy for using
19:47 notion on your mobile device whether
19:49 it's an iphone or an android phone to
19:50 give you another quick sneak peek at
19:52 creator's companion this is something we
19:54 have built onto every single view if
19:57 you're on ideas you open on-page
19:59 navigation you have all this kind of
20:00 stuff if you're on validation open
20:02 on-page navigation you have access to
20:04 every single one of these subheadings
20:05 because i wanted to design this around
20:08 mobile usage and that is also the case
20:10 for our personal dashboard so just add a
20:12 table of contents link to a toggle and
20:14 then i'm going to go ahead and give it
20:16 an emoji let's type in nav
20:19 to get this little compass
20:21 type this and then i'm going to go with
20:22 on i'm going to go with quick links
20:26 type this i'm going to go with quick
20:32 background there it is so keep that
20:35 toggle most the time but when you want
20:36 quick access to a heading boom open it
20:38 up and you can get to it next up i want
20:40 a call out block which is simply a fancy
20:44 bordered background colored block where
20:46 i can add something that's going to
20:47 stick out a little bit and i just want
20:48 this little reminder at the top of my
20:51 personal dashboard remember the regrets
20:53 of the 100 year olds there's this great
20:54 video on youtube it's got hundreds of
20:56 millions of views or something like that
20:57 where these people who are over 100
20:59 years old are talking about their
21:00 regrets in life and for the most part a
21:02 lot of them regret working too much
21:03 skipping family functions not seeing
21:05 friends enough not exercising not
21:07 getting outside so i want this at the
21:08 top of my dashboard work hard stay
21:11 focused but quit at a reasonable time
21:13 spend time with your friends and your
21:15 family today go outside don't skip your
21:17 workouts don't optimize your life by
21:20 sitting in front of a computer all day
21:21 for more sitting in front of a computer
21:23 all day you know you got to work hard
21:24 but you also have to have a balanced
21:25 life so i want that there and you know
21:27 what i also want just to show you
21:28 something cool i also want a sync block
21:31 because if i drag this into a synced
21:34 block like so and then get rid of this
21:36 little line here i can actually copy
21:39 this synced block and whatever is inside
21:41 of it and i can go say over to how about
21:44 my quotes page and i can
21:46 simply paste it and now
21:48 i have a synced version of this block in
21:51 this location i can actually click here
21:52 to show you the multiple locations and
21:54 in this location and if i make a change
22:00 and go back to the original location
22:02 we are going to see that change
22:03 reflected so that is a pretty cool thing
22:05 you can use throughout your workspace
22:07 i'm just going to use that as a
22:08 demonstration and the last thing i want
22:10 to create here is a daily tasks list
22:12 this is basically like a pad of sticky
22:14 notes on your desk where you can just
22:16 like make some check boxes for what you
22:17 have to do today and i personally find
22:19 this useful because i don't always want
22:21 to go into my inbox or my you know
22:23 actual task management system to write
22:26 go to the store or work out things like
22:28 that i like to plan my day in checklist
22:30 sometimes so inside this toggle i'm
22:32 going to type slash and i'm going to
22:33 actually create a gallery which is
22:35 simply a different view type for a
22:37 database than list or table like you've
22:40 seen before i'm going to go ahead and
22:41 call this daily tasks
22:44 i am going to delete these sample cards
22:47 and then this one we're just going to
22:54 and i'm going to create a little
22:56 checklist for myself
22:58 oh i already did that one
23:00 sweet i also want to add a property here
23:02 called archive i'm going to make that a
23:04 checklist property and i'm going to go
23:06 ahead and give this a filter
23:10 to ensure that archived
23:13 daily task lists are not showing i'm
23:15 going to come here into the three dot
23:17 and go to properties i'm going to change
23:18 this to also only show 10 on first load
23:21 and i want to make sure the card size is
23:24 so i'm gonna go ahead and give this a
23:28 uh how about an emoji because i simply
23:30 like emojis and i think we can go with
23:33 uh maybe a blue checkbox this time
23:41 our original personal dashboard that i
23:43 enjoyed the video with we now have
23:46 pretty much the exact same thing except
23:48 for our cool little weather widget so
23:50 let me now show you exactly how to get
23:52 that on your dashboard and in fact any
23:54 page in notion if you want so if we go
23:56 over to this site called indify dot co
23:58 i'll have tony put that on screen as
24:00 text we can actually create little
24:02 widgets for our notion workspace and
24:04 there are quite a few different choices
24:06 there's a live progress bar quote bar
24:08 all kinds of stuff you can explore but
24:09 we're going to create a weather widget
24:12 so if you come in here and create widget
24:13 we're going to have a few different
24:15 options and i'm going to go ahead and
24:16 just set my location to denver
24:19 and i'm going to go for two days i want
24:22 to see what the weather is today and
24:23 tomorrow that's probably all i really
24:25 care about there are some other things
24:26 you can do but i actually like these
24:29 default settings i'm going to go ahead
24:30 and uh make this a little bit yeah we're
24:34 gonna try for well my screen is actually
24:36 very zoomed in for this tutorial so i'm
24:37 gonna keep it at two columns and all we
24:39 need to do is uh copy this url down here
24:42 once we have changed all of our settings
24:46 personal dashboard click plus to get a
24:48 little thing here and all i got to do is
24:50 paste this but this time instead of
24:52 creating a bookmark i'm going to hit
24:55 so what we are doing is essentially
24:57 embedding a web page but this is a very
24:58 tiny web page that only shows our little
25:00 weather information here i can change
25:03 the width to make it a little bit
25:05 better looking in this column i can
25:06 change the height to if i want
25:08 and that is our completed personal
25:13 as always with everything that i create
25:14 in tutorials there is going to be a
25:16 downloadable template version of this
25:18 personal dashboard that you can go ahead
25:19 and duplicate into your own workspace
25:22 and you know use to your heart's content
25:24 though it's going to have links to some
25:26 public template pages so you're going to
25:28 want to delete those links and replace
25:29 them with your own pages from your own
25:32 copy of whatever templates that you are
25:34 using so you know use it as a starting
25:35 point but it's probably not going to be
25:37 completely useful right off the bat
25:39 since again we're linking to public
25:40 pages uh hopefully you found this useful
25:42 again this is going to be the example
25:43 project that we're using for the
25:44 entirety of notion fundamentals which if
25:46 you don't know is my complete free and
25:49 comprehensive beginners course for
25:52 people who want to learn notion if you
25:53 want to become familiar with all the
25:54 basics everything that the app has to
25:56 offer and you want to become proficient
25:58 with basically every feature notion
25:59 fundamentals is going to teach you all
26:01 that and has written versions for every
26:03 lesson along with the video version and
26:05 tons of supplemental materials not just
26:08 things like this personal dashboard but
26:09 there's also like an entire listing of
26:11 every block that notion has in less than
26:13 three and all kinds of cool stuff like
26:15 that so if you want to find that you can
26:16 go over to thomasjaefrank.com
26:18 fundamentals i will also have a link in
26:20 the description down below to my
26:21 template page where you can get access
26:23 free access to the ultimate tasks
26:25 template that i talked about the note
26:27 taking template the habit tracking
26:28 template the only paid template that i
26:30 sell is the creator's companion template
26:33 at this point in time so if you are a
26:35 creator you may want to check that out
26:36 but everything else is completely free
26:38 and is quite advanced and uh pretty
26:40 comprehensive so check that out if you
26:41 have questions leave them down in the
26:43 comment section down below or go ahead
