00:02to go over the technology degree tier
00:04updated for 2021 and we're gonna be
00:08ranking bachelor level technology
00:10degrees from s tier which is the best to
00:12f tier which is the worst now i'm not
00:16drag the intro on too long we're going
00:18to get right into it
00:19right after you gently boot the like
00:20button and let's do it so this is going
00:23to be a relatively quick one now one
00:24thing i will say about technology
00:26degrees is there's a lot of them and you
00:30some of them are very similar to each
00:32other there's like very subtle
00:33differences now i'm not going to have
00:34time to explain all those differences
00:36and i'm also not going to go too much
00:38into the numbers because i've made many
00:39videos in the past that dive into the
00:42overall technology degrees are very
00:44solid when it comes to the statistics
00:46like how much you get paid
00:47job satisfaction etc now first of all
00:49let's get computer science out of the
00:51that one is obviously asked here next on
00:53the list is going to be information
00:54technology and i think everybody knows
00:56what like it guys are information
01:00they basically help businesses with the
01:02technology side of things
01:03now overall when it comes to the numbers
01:05this one is pretty solid
01:07there are better ones on the list but
01:09i'm going to go ahead and put it into
01:11b tier next on the list is going to be
01:13information technology management so
01:15this one is very similar to information
01:17technology but it also adds in the
01:19leadership and management side of things
01:21talked about this many times on the
01:23channel but if you go into management
01:25level positions you tend to make
01:26way more money so if you're able to
01:28combine your information technology
01:30skills with some business and management
01:32skills companies are going to love you
01:34so this one is going to go into a tier
01:37next one on the list is going to be
01:38cyber security now this is one where in
01:42i could see it exploding and becoming
01:45better in the next five years it's still
01:47pretty good right now last year i think
01:50i could see this one going into s tier
01:53you know you see all these scandals
01:55where people's information gets leaked
01:56from you know equifax or target
01:59and this ends up costing companies
02:02directly and also indirectly because
02:04their brand takes a hit
02:05so i could see this one being s tier
02:07soon but right now i'm gonna go ahead
02:10a tier very similar to cyber security as
02:13information security and assurance
02:15this is a rare degree not many
02:17universities have it but the statistics
02:19on this one are slightly better than
02:22so for that reason i'm going to go ahead
02:24and put it into a tier
02:25next on the list is going to be
02:27information science now this is a really
02:29interesting one because
02:30it's taking something that is booming
02:32right now which is you know information
02:34science data science
02:35and you're combining that technical
02:37aspect of things with a
02:38social science side of things as well so
02:40this basically studies how
02:42people and societies interact with
02:44information and technology so it's
02:46basically studying how humans interact
02:48with the digital world so you can see
02:50why this one would be
02:51extremely useful in the modern world and
02:55i am gonna go ahead and put this one
02:58b tier actually you know what um i think
03:01i put it b tier last year i'm gonna put
03:04all right so next on the list is going
03:05to be computer graphics technology now
03:08this one kind of combines your technical
03:10skills with a little bit of creative
03:12and basically it's all about analyzing
03:14and communicating ideas
03:16visually so for instance you might get
03:18this degree and then go into video game
03:21so can be a decent one but compared to
03:24uh technology related degrees the
03:26statistics aren't as good i have to be
03:29could be right for you know a certain
03:31person a certain type of person
03:33but this one is going to go into deter
03:35next one is going to be
03:36telecommunications and this is basically
03:38a combination of a communications degree
03:41with a i.t degree a technology degree so
03:44it's going to be all about communicating
03:46using technology so for instance
03:48communicating over the phone
03:49communicating via video uh sometimes
03:52it's like a live stream sometimes it's
03:54youtube where it's one-way communication
03:56so overall when it comes to the
03:59is okay uh it's kind of middle of the
04:02it's not as bad as some of the other
04:04ones but it's also not on the
04:06you know b or a tier level i'm going to
04:08go ahead and put this one into
04:10c tier next one on the list is going to
04:11be network administration and this is
04:14very similar to an information
04:17now a lot of the time if you get a
04:18network administration degree you're
04:20going to be competing for the same exact
04:22jobs as people who get an i t
04:24degree except the problem is network
04:26administration is more
04:27limited than information technology so
04:30it's that old problem i've talked about
04:31many times on this channel where
04:33certain degrees kind of pigeonhole you
04:36whereas other degrees are much more
04:38flexible and that's probably why the
04:40statistics on this one aren't as good as
04:42information technology
04:43so for that reason i'm going to go ahead
04:44and put this one into d tier
04:46next on the list is going to be computer
04:50now this one is very similar to
04:52management information systems which is
04:55business related degree that's kind of
04:56combined with technology
04:58but it has a little bit more of an
04:59emphasis on the technology
05:01and the information side of things but
05:03overall the statistics are very good uh
05:06i'm going to go ahead and put it into a
05:08tier now i didn't put
05:09anything into f-tier this year but i
05:12will say there are a lot of
05:13super random technology degrees out
05:17and they have the word technology in
05:20them that doesn't necessarily mean
05:22that they're a legit tech degree right
05:24so there's one i saw
05:26i used this as an example in the you
05:28know top five worst technology degrees
05:30it was like printing technology that is
05:35one thing you want to look out for if
05:37you are looking to get
05:38into technology is degrees that are too
05:42that's one weakness that i see over and
05:44over again with a lot of these tech
05:46printing technology for instance unless
05:51110 know that you are just obsessed with
05:54printers it's just like your your
05:56your life goal is to be the best in the
05:59printing technology then you probably
06:01don't want to get that degree you want
06:02to get a different degree
06:04that's very similar maybe information
06:06technology something along those lines
06:08maybe even an engineering degree might
06:09be better like an electrical engineering
06:12and then you're going to be able to
06:13still do the same job
06:15but you're also going to have a lot more
06:18okay so those types of degrees in my
06:20opinion would go into
06:22f tier um unless you really know what
06:25you're getting yourself into you've done
