00:00is business development representative
00:02also known as sales development
00:03representative also known as tech sales
00:05or software sales a good career that is
00:08the question we are going to be
00:10answering in today's video now these are
00:12all slightly different careers uh
00:13depends on whether it's inbound or
00:15outbound etc but overall it falls under
00:17the umbrella of tech sales now
00:19technology is an industry that has an
00:21incredible amount of opportunity and
00:23sales is one of the most valuable skill
00:26sets that you can possibly learn so you
00:27combine those two things together and
00:29you have a phenomenal career now i have
00:31interviewed several people on this
00:33channel and i plan to interview more in
00:34the future one of them is somebody who
00:36got his first job in tech sales at 19
00:38years old and he started making 70 75
00:41000 a year in his very first year
00:43another one is somebody who's well down
00:45the line in their career and they make
00:46over 500 000 a year in tech sales and
00:50after watching this video if you think
00:51it might be a good career for you but
00:52you want to know more information there
00:54is some free training which i will put
00:56down in the description and in the pin
00:57comment below you can check that out
00:59it's with a company called course
01:01careers that oftentimes gets people jobs
01:03within one to two months in tech sales
01:05and if you decide to use their service i
01:06do have a coupon code 50 off it's shane
01:0950. you can check that out as well now
01:11let's go ahead and talk about some of
01:13the most important categories here and
01:15probably the most important thing of all
01:18is going to be job growth so this is one
01:20of those careers that's so new that
01:22there actually isn't any information on
01:24bls or government websites so we have to
01:26go to places like glassdoor etc and use
01:29self-reported data now the reason that
01:31job growth is so important is because if
01:33there is a skill set that's in high
01:34demand that typically leads to higher
01:37pay better job satisfaction more
01:39flexibility etc so if you look at sales
01:42development in general you'll see that
01:44244 thousand results pop up when you
01:47type that in and if you look at sales
01:49development at the entry level you'll
01:50see that a hundred and three thousand
01:52results pop up so that is phenomenal and
01:54that's not counting business development
01:56or software sales or tech sales etc
01:59because it has a bunch of different
02:00names and considering that the
02:01technology industry is the second
02:03fastest growing industry overall
02:05according to bls behind the medical
02:08industry this is phenomenal so this is
02:10something i've been talking about for
02:11years now on this channel how this skill
02:13set uh tech sales is in such high demand
02:16and this is the only career that i know
02:18of that i routinely see people getting a
02:21job within one month that's right there
02:24are many people out there who literally
02:26start their first paid job in tech sales
02:29within one month of trying to get into
02:31it now two or three months is phenomenal
02:33even but one month is just totally
02:35unheard of but you can do that in tech
02:37sales so this one is going to have a 10
02:40out of 10 when it comes to job growth
02:42now next we're going to talk about job
02:43satisfaction this one is extremely
02:46subjective for one person this could be
02:47a 10 out of 10 career and another person
02:49it could be one out of 10. and there
02:51isn't a whole lot of data out there
02:53unfortunately on sales development
02:54representative business development
02:56representative etc because it's such a
02:57new career but with that being said a
02:59similar career is sales engineer and you
03:02see that the job satisfaction is 74 and
03:04the meaning score is 46
03:06so very high job satisfaction relatively
03:09medium levels of meaning now the truth
03:11is i'll just be blunt here not everyone
03:14is going to enjoy sales i did a sales
03:16job and it was actually my favorite job
03:18that i've ever had but it's not
03:19everyone's cup of tea i will say that i
03:21think everybody should do a sales job at
03:23least once in their life so that they
03:25understand how it works and because of
03:27the fact that it's just such a valuable
03:29skill set and the reason for that is
03:30because you have to put yourself in the
03:32other person's shoes and ask what do
03:34they want but the great thing and this
03:36factors into it when i talk about job
03:39satisfaction is that you are you know
03:42not really sacrificing a lot in order to
03:44get into this career path right you
03:46don't have to go to school for four
03:47years or do a residency or have a bunch
03:49of background experience etc etc you can
03:51literally get into it within one month
03:53and if you don't like it you work for a
03:55few months you can quit and try
03:56something else so there's not a lot of
03:58risk here and in my opinion because of
04:00that it increases the job satisfaction
04:02on top of that there is a good amount of
04:04flexibility as well which in my opinion
04:06also increases job satisfaction you have
04:08a lot of ability to grow both vertically
04:10and horizontally and by that i mean
04:12there are jobs that are above sales
04:14development representative you can
04:15become a manager or even a vice
04:17president of the company and there are
04:19some vice presidents out there of sales
04:20that make over 10 million dollars a year
04:22and then horizontally it's really good
04:24as well because nobody understands the
04:26company's customers better than the
04:28people who are selling to them so if you
04:30want to move into a position that has
04:31nothing to do with sales there's a lot
04:33of great opportunity there as well for
04:35instance if you want to become an
04:36executive and just generally speaking
04:38it's a super valuable skill to know
04:40overall and it's going to help you
04:42whether you want to go down the business
04:43route whether you want to go the
04:45executive route or you just want to
04:46continue to be a salesperson but like i
04:48said this is not everybody's cup of tea
04:50and for that reason i will give the job
04:52satisfaction a 7.5 out of 10 but again
04:55take this with a grain of salt extremely
04:57subjective next one on the list is going
04:59to be salary now bls does not have
05:01business development representative
05:03numbers however sales engineers make
05:05about 103 000 a year and they're growing
05:08at 8 which is as fast as average sales
05:10engineer is not the same thing but it's
05:12a career path you might move into from
05:14this one and glassdoor has technical
05:16sales jobs making about 98 000 a year so
05:19out of all the entry-level careers you
05:20can get into with no experience there's
05:22really only 12 that i like a lot and of
05:25all those careers that i really like
05:27this is the career where you can get
05:28into it within like a month or two and
05:30you can legitimately have a shot at
05:32making six figures your first year the
05:34only other one where you have a
05:35legitimate shot at doing that is
05:37software development but typically that
05:39one takes something more like six months
05:41to a year to get into so because of the
05:43fact that you don't have to get a
05:44college degree you don't have to do some
05:46kind of crazy residency spend a bunch of
05:48time effort and money to get into this
05:50and you can make a super good salary a
05:52lot of the time it's 70 80 000 a year
05:55you even have a shot at making six
05:56figures in your first year this one gets
05:58a 10 out of 10 when it comes to salary
06:01and next we're gonna talk about x
06:03factors and i sort of already went over
06:05this a little bit but you know this is
06:07one of the most valuable skill sets that
06:09you can possibly learn sales is the
06:11career that a lot of billionaires
06:13actually have in common so when they did
06:15an analysis looking at a bunch of
06:16different billionaires and saw what jobs
06:18they had in their past sales was number
06:21one and i believe they did the same
06:22analysis on millionaires and sales was
06:24also number one as well so this is an
06:26incredibly valuable skill set to know in
06:28general even if you don't end up working
06:30in sales in your future it's just gonna
06:32be really valuable and helpful in your
06:35life because the first thing they teach
06:36you in sales is seek first to understand
06:39the other person than seek to be
06:42understood and that is something you see
06:44a lot of people making mistakes at
06:45whether it's you know with your
06:47co-workers or with your significant
06:49other or at work and then on top of that
06:51this is not something that can be
06:53outsourced typically sales jobs have to
06:55be done by people who are in the country
06:58that you are selling to sometimes you
06:59can have sales jobs where it's like you
07:01know a person from the uk selling to the
07:03us but typically they are done within
07:06the country that you are selling to
07:07because i don't know it's just easier to
07:09relate to somebody who has your own
07:11accent so it's very very unlikely that
07:13it will ever be outsourced on top of
07:15that there is no way this is ever going
07:17to be automated it is 100 automation
07:20proof i am telling you right now sales
07:22will never be automated okay maybe it
07:25might be automated but again at that
07:27point you know nobody will have to work
07:29because robots are just doing everything
07:31for us so yeah when you look at all the
07:32x factors they're all there this one
07:34definitely is 10 out of 10 when it comes
07:37to x factors so this one gets a total
07:409.375 out of 10. phenomenal career one
07:43of the only ones you can get into at the
07:45entry level without a degree without any
07:47experience and make really good money
07:49obviously sales is not going to be for
07:51everyone it's not everyone's compass t
07:52but it's worth trying out if you enjoyed
07:55this video check out abdul's interview
07:56video i'll put it like right here um
07:59it's a really good one and he talks
08:00about how he got into sales really
08:02quickly at a very young age without any
08:04experience also gently tap the like
08:06button hit the subscribe button ring the
08:07notification bell and comment down below
