00:00are the Google career certificates still
00:03worth it in 2023 that is going to be the
00:07topic of today's video and we're going
00:09to be talking about what the Google
00:10professional certificates are how long
00:12it takes to complete the certificates
00:14the cost the basic qualifications the
00:17skills you can gain the relevance of the
00:19certs the pros and cons of the
00:21certificates and then at the end I'm
00:22going to give you my opinion on whether
00:24they are still worth it or not in 2023
00:27and I made a video about this last year
00:29when I saw all these videos blowing up
00:31on the Internet talking about how you
00:32can get these free certifications and
00:34make a hundred thousand dollars a year
00:36in one month and these are just totally
00:37crazy claims like that and then on the
00:39other end of the spectrum there's a
00:41bunch of people saying it's a complete
00:42scam and so what did I do I went I made
00:45a video that was actually objective I
00:46talked about the pros the cons The Good
00:48the Bad and the Ugly of the certificates
00:50and that's exactly what I'm going to do
00:52now as well but things have actually
00:54changed since then and I'm going to go
00:56over exactly what has changed a little
00:57bit later in the video but if you
00:59appreciate me keep keeping it real
01:00giving you the pros and the cons of
01:02these certificates go ahead gently tap
01:05that like button and let's jump into it
01:06alright so first of all let's talk about
01:08the Google career certificates these are
01:10hosted by the company Coursera and
01:13Coursera is a global online learning
01:16platform that offers anyone anywhere
01:18access to online courses and degrees
01:20from leading universities and companies
01:22they have over 113 million Learners and
01:25more than 7 000 campuses businesses and
01:27governments have come to Coursera to
01:29access world-class learning anytime
01:31anywhere now the reason that Google
01:32partnered with Coursera and started
01:34creating these courses on their platform
01:36is simply because there were certain
01:37careers where they could not find enough
01:39people who had those skill sets and this
01:42shows a lack of adequate experience and
01:44training from the current traditional
01:46education system universities were not
01:49keeping up with the needs of the market
01:50and there started to become a massive
01:52imbalance in supply and demand and even
01:55when universities were training people
01:56for these different types of careers
01:58they weren't teaching them the skills
01:59that they actually needed to know to be
02:02valuable in the workforce so Google came
02:04out with their professional certificate
02:05program and they started training people
02:06for these highly in-demand skills and
02:09when I made that video last year it was
02:10still at a point where the jury really
02:12wasn't in and not a lot of people had
02:14taken the certificates at that time but
02:16since then a ton of people had taken
02:18them and the positive feedback started
02:20pouring in so here's some of the
02:22comments that people left on my channel
02:23and honestly it was even better than I
02:26thought it was going to be so for
02:27instance this person said I obtained a
02:29bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and
02:31molecular biology and a master's in
02:33health informatics with my Master's
02:34Degree I could barely get a job to pay
02:36me over fifty thousand dollars a year I
02:39completed the Google data analytics
02:40certificate in July 2021 added this to
02:43my resume and in September of 2021 I got
02:46hired as the lead data governance
02:48specialist for s p Global which pays me
02:51six figures for the price and knowledge
02:53gained from this certificate it's
02:55definitely worth it here's another
02:56person who talked about getting the it
02:58certificate they said took the it
03:00certification finished it in a little
03:02over a month ended up getting an easy it
03:04job the pay was okay and I got to work
03:06for a Fortune 100 company which was neat
03:08so I'd say it was worth it I came from a
03:10strong sales background and didn't know
03:12too much about the tech industry but it
03:14was a nice experience and a career
03:16switch at the time ended up not being
03:18for me but if that's your desired career
03:19path then go for it much much cheaper
03:21than my degree this person said I'm
03:23currently on the fourth of five courses
03:25I have over five years of it support in
03:27my past roles and just wanted to add
03:28something to my resume to stand out more
03:30and that's because they only had a high
03:32school diploma and I have yet to finish
03:33this class and have already experienced
03:35an increase in calls from recruiters
03:36just by the fact that I'm enrolled in
03:38the course and have it on my resume also
03:40when completing the course it counts as
03:4212 college credits I definitely
03:44recommend this to anybody that already
03:46has it experience and wants to further
03:48their career especially during this
03:49current pandemic and job crisis I
03:51believe this program got me my work from
03:53home job that I start this Monday God
03:55bless and best of luck to everybody this
03:57person says I finished the Google It
03:59automation with python certificate after
04:01a few months I got a job in tech support
04:03and yes it was entry level therefore I
04:05think it was worth it and these are just
04:07a few of the reviews that I got
04:08literally there's hundreds and hundreds
04:10of reviews from people who took these
04:12certificates and had positive outcomes
04:14from them so at the end of that video I
04:16did last year I did have positive things
04:17to say about the certificates but since
04:19then my estimation of them has gone up
04:21even more and luckily Coursera does
04:23currently have a New Year's promo where
04:26you get 200 off Coursera plus and
04:29Coursera plus is the cheapest way to get
04:31access to these certificates because
04:32with Coursera plus you get access to
04:34over 7 000 different courses and the
04:36certificates are included so this came
04:38on my radar just a few days ago and from
04:41the time I'm going to try to get this
04:42video out on because I'm trying to get
04:43this video done really quickly I don't
04:45think this promotion is going to last
04:47any more than like 10 days or so so I
04:49highly recommend if you're trying to do
04:50these certificates to use this promotion
04:53and I'll put that link down in the
04:54description as well as the pinned
04:56comment below keep in mind I am an
04:58affiliate of Coursera so if you click on
05:00that link and you choose to buy it I
05:01will get a small commission from that
05:03but with that being said at the time I
05:05made that video I wasn't even an
05:06affiliate of Coursera and I still had
05:08really good things to say about them you
05:10can go back and watch the video If you
05:11don't believe me and this is something
05:12that I've recommended many times without
05:14ever getting paid for it all right so
05:16let's go ahead and go over the basic
05:18qualifications that you need before
05:21starting these certificates and this is
05:23one of the great things is you pretty
05:25much don't need any qualifications to
05:26start the certs and the reason for that
05:28is because most of these certificates
05:29that I talk about are entry level right
05:31so this person for instance I got the
05:33Google search before I started the a
05:35plus what they're referring to is
05:37compatia a plus which is a very common
05:40it certification and got hired despite
05:43not having any other Tech experience
05:45when I finished the second part of a
05:47plus they didn't even care right so the
05:49CompTIA a plus certification that's kind
05:51of like the industry gold standard and
05:53apparently according to this person they
05:55didn't even care that they got that
05:57certification they cared more about the
05:59Google search so that is the power of
06:01these certs and I'm going to talk about
06:03in this video why they're so powerful
06:05right why do they get people jobs left
06:07and right you know why do they have such
06:09good reviews online from reputable sites
06:11so for instance this website right here
06:14reliablesoft.net they say you can take
06:16this course entirely online at your own
06:18pace and time the exams are easy to pass
06:20and Hands-On Labs will help you build
06:21practical skills and projects to add to
06:24your portfolio now not all the
06:25certificates are entry level for
06:27instance there's some really good deep
06:29learning AI machine learning type
06:31certificates that are going to be more
06:33you know mid-level or even higher level
06:35but typically the ones you hear about
06:36the most are the entry level ones next
06:38let's talk about the time that it takes
06:40for you to get through these certs now
06:42first of all all of the certificates are
06:44100 online and you can study them from
06:47anywhere in the world as long as you
06:49have an internet connection and yes this
06:51is one question I get all the time on
06:53this channel because some of the stuff
06:55that I talk about on this channel is
06:56only available to Americans and
06:58Canadians some of the other stuff I talk
07:00about this channel is only available to
07:02people in First World English-speaking
07:04countries such as the United States
07:06Canada UK New Zealand Australia Etc but
07:10Coursera is available to anybody
07:12anywhere and that's kind of the beauty
07:15of these certifications is they give
07:17options to all people all over the world
07:19now in terms of how long it takes to
07:22actually get through these certificates
07:23a lot of the time they're going to say
07:25something like six to eight months but
07:27in reality many people actually report
07:29that they can get through them in
07:30something like one month two months
07:32sometimes even less than that but in
07:34reality they are self-paced right so if
07:37you're super busy you got a full-time
07:38job you got a family obviously that's
07:40going to take you longer if you're
07:42somebody who just graduated from high
07:43school and you have all the time in the
07:45world you might be able to knock these
07:46out in a few weeks and obviously if
07:48you're somebody who already has
07:49knowledge in that field and you're just
07:51taking this to kind of bolster your
07:52resume again you might be able to knock
07:54it out really quickly as well so for
07:56instance this person took the ux design
07:58certificate from from Google and they
08:00were able to finish all seven courses in
08:0344 days this person said they were 60
08:06done with the certificate studying about
08:08one to two hours a day and if you study
08:10more like four to eight hours a day you
08:12could probably get it done in less than
08:13a month this person uh took the Google
08:16data analytics certificate they finished
08:18it in about three months and they were
08:20able to land a ninety seven thousand
08:23dollar a year job with a ten thousand
08:24dollar sign-on bonus so you do see a
08:27wide variety of answers and of course
08:29some of these certs are likely going to
08:31be more difficult than the other ones
08:32but generally speaking if you are able
08:35to dedicate a lot of time to them you
08:36can finish them in one to two months or
08:39maybe even less next let's talk about
08:41the cost of these certs and this is
08:43where it gets very interesting because
08:45Coursera is extremely affordable it only
08:48costs about thirty nine dollars a month
08:50and that's at the time of recording this
08:53video and I wouldn't be surprised if
08:54they raised the price because that's
08:55honestly a steal and if you want to test
08:57the waters out before fully committing
08:59there is is a seven day free trial I'll
09:01put links to some of the most common
09:02Coursera certifications down in the
09:04description as well as the pin comment
09:06below I'll do Google search some of the
09:08most common ones like the It ux UI
09:10design search and then I'll also include
09:12some other ones from good companies as
09:14well so for instance meta makes certs
09:16IBM makes certs there's even a really
09:18good bookkeeping certification so I'll
09:20include all of those down in the
09:22description below as well as the pinned
09:23comment now Coursera also does have
09:25financial aid available for those who
09:27are not able to afford a subscription so
09:30definitely check that out so sixty
09:31percent of financial aid applications
09:33come from Learners and countries
09:35considered to have developing economies
09:36despite the fact that those Learners
09:38represent only 38 of the total course
09:41enrollments so the financial aid program
09:43is helping a lot of people out all over
09:45the world so here is somebody who says
09:47go for the financial aid it's super easy
09:49and they accept you instantly I don't
09:50know if that's actually true or not that
09:52is a trust me bro sort of thing so the
09:55obvious comparison here is like let's
09:57say it takes you three months to get it
09:59done right thirty nine dollars a month
10:00in three months that's around a hundred
10:02dollars or so you can compare that to
10:04the cost of a college degree in the
10:06United States of America which is about
10:07eighty thousand dollars on average so
10:10that's kind of the obvious comparison
10:11and you know going back to time as well
10:13college degree is probably going to take
10:16like four to five years of your life in
10:18fact it's 5.1 years on average in the
10:20United States of America so a
10:22certificate that might take you three
10:23months and costs you around a hundred
10:25dollars versus a college degree that
10:27will take you five years and cost you
10:29eighty thousand dollars so yeah from a
10:32time and a cost standpoint these certs
10:34are amazing and also from a risk
10:37standpoint right you're not risking all
10:38that much like you would be if you went
10:40to college college is a massive risk and
10:43if you take one of these certificates
10:44you might realize halfway through that
10:46you don't like it maybe you take the
10:48data analytics cert and you realize you
10:50really don't like data analytics well
10:52guess what you spent like 50 bucks and
10:54you spent like a month and a half of
10:55your time and you probably learned a lot
10:57about yourself along the way whereas in
10:59in college you might realize like year
11:01three that you don't like what you're
11:03doing and you're already like sixty
11:05thousand dollars in debt so you're
11:06really not risking all that much time or
11:08money with these certificates which is
11:10another big positive next let's talk
11:12about the skills that you can gain now
11:14one of the reasons I'm a big fan of
11:15Coursera as well as the Google
11:17professional certificate specifically is
11:19because they teach you skills that are
11:21actually needed in the job market one
11:24thing that college does that's
11:25absolutely ridiculous is like eighty
11:27percent of the stuff you learn in
11:28college is probably going to have either
11:30absolutely nothing to do with the career
11:32you want to go into or if it does have
11:33something to do with it it's likely
11:35going to be outdated so colleges will
11:37make you learn some coding language that
11:39hasn't been used in 10 years they'll
11:41make you learn digital marketing
11:42strategies that worked five years ago
11:44but they don't work now with these
11:46certificates they are up to date right
11:48these are the skills that companies want
11:50people to have right now here's the
11:52skills you might learn if you take the
11:54Google project management cert the IBM
11:56data analyst cert the Google It support
11:59support cert the Google data analytics
12:01cert and here is a review that they put
12:04on there where this person says the
12:06Google It support professional
12:07certificate helped me get a system admin
12:09position because the interviewer was
12:11specifically looking for someone who
12:13understood Network and active directory
12:16so this is what I have noticed over and
12:17over again helping people get jobs in as
12:20little as 10 days is when you learn what
12:23companies are actively looking for what
12:25skills companies actually need people to
12:27have and then you teach people those
12:29exact skills and you show them how they
12:31can showcase those skills on their
12:33resume or portfolio quickly and easily
12:35that is like it's like a chemical
12:38reaction right it's just the companies
12:40just they'll almost hire you on the spot
12:42so if you know the exact skills that the
12:44companies want and then you know exactly
12:46how you can demonstrate those skills on
12:48your resume via a portfolio that is very
12:51easy for them to access and look at you
12:54are going to notice that you get like 10
12:56times more interviews and you're going
12:57to be like five times more likely to get
13:00a job offer once you're done with the
13:02interviews and people always wonder how
13:03you know I interview these people on my
13:05channel that are getting jobs in like 10
13:06days 14 days two weeks three weeks four
13:09weeks this is how because you learn the
13:12exact skills that companies are looking
13:14for nothing else you don't learn all
13:16this eclectic BS that universities try
13:18to teach you and then you put those
13:20skills on your resume in the form of a
13:22portfolio that is very easy for people
13:25to look at it's really not rocket
13:27science and that's how you stand out
13:28from the 99 of other people that are
13:30going the traditional routes and doing
13:32things the hard way all right so next
13:33let's talk about the post certification
13:36support okay so this is basically where
13:39they have you do these projects and they
13:41have you create portfolios right so it's
13:43one thing to just learn these skills
13:45it's a whole other thing to apply the
13:47skills and that's why it's so important
13:48to do projects that you can put on your
13:50portfolio and that's exactly what all of
13:53these certs do so they have Hands-On
13:55projects and that kind of goes back to
13:57what I said earlier about being able to
13:58demonstrate that you have the skills and
14:00then on top of that this is probably one
14:02of the most underrated parts of getting
14:05these Google certs and this is the part
14:06that I overlooked when I went over the
14:08certs a year ago you get a shareable
14:11certificate that you can put on your
14:13LinkedIn and here's the crazy thing you
14:16don't even have to be done with the
14:19Coursera cert before you can say that
14:20you're taking it on your LinkedIn so I
14:23can't tell you how many comments I got
14:24from people where recruiters started
14:26reaching out to them because they put
14:28these Coursera and Google certs on their
14:30LinkedIn and in many cases they weren't
14:33even done with the certificate
14:34recruiters literally use these certs
14:37they will search through Linkedin of
14:39people who are either taking the cert or
14:41have already finished it and they have
14:43the certificate and they will reach out
14:45to those people and head hunt them for
14:47jobs and this is why this is basically
14:49like a cheat code right now right this
14:51is the thing that I overlooked I didn't
14:52even look into this when I did the
14:54review a year ago and I got a ton of
14:56comments from people who said recruiters
14:58were reaching out to to them and then
15:00the third thing is in many cases you
15:02will get access to private job boards so
15:04for instance with the Google search you
15:06get access to private job boards or a
15:08bunch of different big companies have
15:10agreed to use those job boards to hire
15:12people and it makes sense because these
15:14other companies have the same problem
15:16that Google originally had and that they
15:18cannot find people who have these skills
15:20so that is another thing that gives you
15:22an edge next let's talk about the
15:24relevance of the certificates as well as
15:26the ratings so you can actually look at
15:29the ratings on all these different
15:30certificates and the Google certs have
15:32some of the best ratings so for instance
15:34the Google It automation with python
15:36professional certificate has a 4.8 star
15:39rating with 29 000 people who ranked it
15:42the Google It support professional
15:44certificate has a 4.8 out of 5 with 150
15:47000 ratings The Google project
15:48management professional certificate has
15:50a 4.8 out of 5 with 69 000 ratings the
15:53instructors in many cases are world
15:55class because a lot of the times these
15:57certificates the instructors will be be
15:59people who actually just got jobs at
16:01these companies right so these are the
16:03people who in many cases are going to be
16:05helping and making the hiring decisions
16:07and they know the skills that the
16:08company needs and that's why about 75
16:10percent of Google certificate grads
16:13report career Improvement now here are
16:15some testimonials and reviews from
16:16Reddit and if you know anything about
16:18Reddit they tend to be extremely
16:20critical of businesses certificates
16:22online courses these sorts of things
16:24they're honestly like really good online
16:26courses out there that Reddit is super
16:28critical of it because it's just like
16:30not perfect but Reddit tends to just say
16:32really good things about the Corsair
16:34asserts and you can check that out on
16:35your own or you can just look at some of
16:37these I'll put them up on the screen now
16:39one thing I do want to reiterate I
16:41talked about this in the video I made a
16:43year ago is this is not a replacement
16:46for a degree it's ridiculous to say that
16:49it's a replacement for a degree that's
16:50like saying an apple is a replacement
16:52for an orange or a hammer is a
16:55replacement for a wrench right they are
16:57different things these things are all
16:59tools if you need to hammer in a nail
17:02you should use a hammer and if you need
17:05to drive in a screw you should use a
17:08screwdriver it is going to depend
17:10entirely on your situation which one is
17:13best for you so to say this is better
17:15than that is ridiculous because it's an
17:17apples to oranges comparison but with
17:19that being said one thing I will say
17:21about the Coursera certificates and it's
17:23not just the Google search there's a lot
17:24of other really good ones for instance
17:26you know you've got the IBM certs you've
17:28got the meta certifications you've also
17:31got one from Intuit that's an academy
17:32bookkeeping cert which is great
17:34bookkeeping is a great career you can
17:36get into relatively easily is you get to
17:38check out a bunch of these in-demand
17:39careers without investing a bunch of
17:42your time and money into them and that's
17:44why it's a really good idea just to sign
17:45up for Coursera plus because you can
17:47check out a bunch of different ones and
17:49you're gonna get a really good idea of
17:51what career is going to be good for you
17:52and typically a lot of the careers
17:54you're going to see on here are ones
17:55that are highly In Demand right so it's
17:57not one of those things where you're
17:58going to have to go to school for like
18:0012 years just to get an entry level
18:02position like you would for like a
18:04psychology career for instance right so
18:06it's not one of these things where
18:07you're going to have to go to school for
18:08like 10 to 12 years just to have a shot
18:10at getting an entry level position like
18:12a sociology degree if you learn these
18:14skills you are very likely going to get
18:16a good job but the question is are you
18:18going to enjoy that job and that's one
18:20of the great things about these
18:21certificates is it's almost like a
18:23sample platter right you go to a new
18:25restaurant you order their sample
18:26platter you get to check out a bunch of
18:28different dishes you really like one of
18:30them and then you order the main course
18:31you order the entire dish after that and
18:34that's kind of like what Coursera is you
18:35basically get to check out a bunch of
18:37different careers and if you really like
18:38one of them you can deep dive on that
18:40one so overall my summary the Google
18:42career certificate is going to give them
18:43a massive thumbs up Coursera in general
18:45all the other ones they offer as well
18:47gonna give them a huge thumbs up too
18:49highly recommend you check out Coursera
18:51plus as well because it is 200 off right
18:54now that's probably only going to last
18:55maybe 10 days to two weeks after this
18:58video is posted I'm going to try to get
18:59this posted in the next two or three
19:01days but yeah right now this is
19:02basically a cheat code I don't know how
19:04much longer this is going to last but I
19:06am getting insanely good reviews from
19:09everybody that I recommend this to I'm
19:10getting insanely good reviews from the
19:12YouTube comments section of other people
19:13that have tried this and by the way if
19:16you have tried these certificates please
19:17leave your comments down below I want to
19:19hear whether you had a good experience
19:21or not and maybe two or three years from
19:23now uh the market matures and the
19:25certificates aren't as good anymore in
19:27that case I will update this and I'll
19:28talk about it again but right now this
19:31is basically a cheat code and I
19:32definitely recommend you check out this
19:34video right here where I talk about the
19:35best Google certificates
