00:00so you want to get a college degree
00:02that's going to lead to a good job so
00:05you watch a bunch of YouTube Day in the
00:06Life videos you do a bunch of research
00:08on different career websites and you end
00:11up scrolling through Tick Tock way too
00:13much but then you realize that a
00:14bachelor's degree on average takes 5.1
00:17years and costs 500 000 over a lifetime
00:21plus forty percent of people drop out
00:23and of the ones that finish nearly 50
00:25percent of people regret their degree
00:27ouch so you decide you're interested in
00:29a two-year associate's degree instead
00:31well you're in luck because today I'm
00:33going to be revealing the best associate
00:35degrees and the first one on the list is
00:37going to be the front line worker the
00:40warrior of the healthcare industry and
00:42this is a degree that is pretty much
00:43always going to lead to a stable
00:45high-paying job and that is going to be
00:48a Nursing degree now you might be
00:49thinking Shane I'm a male I do not want
00:52to be a male nurse and that makes sense
00:54because 80 of the people that watch my
00:56channel are guys but I have two things
00:58to say to that one you're not allowed to
01:00have an opinion because you don't have a
01:02girlfriend and two nursing is an
01:05especially good career for guys there is
01:07a massive shortage of nurses and there's
01:09even more of a shortage of male nurses
01:12and there are certain activities in the
01:14hospitals that they tend to have male
01:15nurses do so it's actually much easier
01:17for you to get a good job in nursing if
01:19you are a guy so if you want to make
01:21some really good money go ahead put your
01:23ego aside realize that it's 2023 and
01:26consider this one now as a nurse at the
01:28entry level you'll make around 69 000 a
01:30year and according to BLS it's growing
01:32at around six percent over the next 10
01:34years so back when I was in pharmacy
01:35school I was actually going to an
01:37accelerated program and we were in the
01:39same building as a bunch of different
01:41nurses so we would do a lot of the same
01:43activities with them and we would eat
01:45lunch with them and some of them were
01:46actually doing accelerated programs
01:48where they were basically getting their
01:49Nursing degree in less than two years
01:51and of course they ended up graduating
01:53before us and so we kind of got to see
01:55what kind of Lifestyle they were living
01:56and they were making really good money
01:58right off the bat so some of the pros
01:59have getting this is of course it is a
02:01shorter duration you can get an
02:03associate's degree in nursing in less
02:04than two years easily and this means you
02:06can start working and make money right
02:08away and if you ever want to make more
02:09money add on more responsibility you can
02:11always go back to school learn more get
02:13educated get your bachelor's get your
02:15Master's sometimes even a doctorate and
02:18there's tons of opportunities for nurse
02:19practitioners for instance and some of
02:21them like nurse anesthetist can make
02:23almost as much as a doctor now some of
02:25the cons here are as an associate degree
02:27level nurse you may be stuck doing jobs
02:29that you don't necessarily want to do
02:31forever and additionally the education
02:33is way less comprehensive the next one
02:35on the list is going to be a degree that
02:37can be done in two to three years where
02:38you can make really good money but
02:40you're gonna have to be okay with
02:42sticking your hands in other people's
02:43mouths and this of course is dental
02:46hygienist now back when I was going to
02:48college I actually had a roommate whose
02:50girlfriend was a dental hygienist and
02:52they started college at the same time
02:54and of course because she got an
02:55associate's degree she was able to
02:57finish way before him and she was making
02:59really good money she she was actually
03:00making six figures a year and so she was
03:03basically my roommate's Sugar Mama Mike
03:05was a smart guy so this one according to
03:07Glassdoor you can make about a hundred
03:08and ten thousand dollars a year and it's
03:10growing at nine percent over the next 10
03:12years according to BLS so some of the
03:14pros of getting this one is of course
03:15shorter program again although some
03:17dental hygienist programs can be two to
03:19three years instead of two another Pro
03:21is the lower cost of getting an
03:23associate's degree versus getting a
03:24bachelor's another Pro is there is very
03:26high demand for this career and of
03:28course you have an insanely good salary
03:30for a two-year degree now some of the
03:32cons for this one are there are limited
03:34advancement opportunities so once you're
03:36a dental hygienist you can't really go
03:38much further than that you could be
03:40maybe a dental hygienist manager but
03:42after that there's not much room for
03:43career growth it also can be somewhat
03:45physically demanding and then another
03:47con to this one and this is just from
03:49what I've heard it's better if you're
03:51kind of a young female so dentists tend
03:54to hire like younger females to do this
03:56type of job and I guess it's just
03:57because customers feel more comfortable
03:59with kind of of a younger woman working
04:01on their teeth now the next one you're
04:03going to be assisting a career that has
04:05extremely high meaning score right
04:07extremely high job satisfaction and
04:10long-term happiness with their job and
04:12on top of that you can make really good
04:13money so what I'm talking about is a
04:15physical therapy assistant now I've
04:17talked about physical therapy before on
04:19the channel and it's one of those
04:20careers that has ridiculously high
04:22meaning and job satisfaction scores and
04:25I think the reason for that is because
04:26you get to see people all the way
04:28through from the time that you know
04:30something bad happened to them their
04:32injury all the way through to the point
04:33where they are actually good to go
04:35whereas there's a lot of other
04:36Healthcare careers where you might see
04:38somebody at you know one of the worst
04:40times of their life they're down bad and
04:41then you take care of them maybe you
04:43give them some medication or something
04:44like that but you never actually get to
04:46see the outcome so it's extremely
04:47satisfying to see somebody you know
04:49right after their injury work with them
04:51for maybe three to six months and then
04:53see it through to the point where
04:54they're able to live a normal life now
04:56Glassdoor has physical therapist
04:57assistants making about 91 000 a year
05:00and according to BLS the job growth over
05:02the next 10 years is going to be around
05:0333 which is phenomenal the next one on
05:06the list is one that got incredibly
05:08popular over the last few years with the
05:10whole you know cough cough situation and
05:13of course there's a ton of demand for
05:15this one but it also was probably
05:16extremely stressful as well and that is
05:19going to be respiratory therapy and
05:21you're going to be working with patients
05:22who are having trouble breathing such as
05:24patients who have asthma or COPD now of
05:28course these types of positions can be
05:29extra stressful when certain situations
05:31happen in the world especially when the
05:33government does a terrible job
05:35responding to the situation
05:39what day anyways speaking of respiratory
05:42therapy it would take my breath away if
05:45you gently tap the like button on this
05:46video but according to BLS they make
05:49around sixty one thousand dollars a year
05:51and it's growing at 14 which is much
05:53faster than average and I have kind of a
05:55funny story about this one so a
05:57pharmacist I knew that I actually worked
05:58with her husband was a respiratory
06:01therapist and of course pharmacists make
06:02around a hundred and twenty hundred and
06:04thirty thousand dollars a year and her
06:06husband with an associate's degree was
06:08making around the same amount of money
06:10and she kind of like jokingly complained
06:12about it a little bit because she had to
06:13get a doctorate to make that much money
06:15anyway some of the pros here are there's
06:17really good job prospects especially
06:19with everything that happened in the
06:21world and the training programs tend to
06:23be really Hands-On and fast right
06:25because they had to kind of train people
06:26incredibly fast as a response to uh the
06:29pandemic so some of the cons here are
06:31extremely high stress levels and in some
06:33cases you might have to work long hours
06:35and that's relatively common in
06:37different Medical Careers for instance I
06:39worked as a pharmacist and there were
06:40many times where I had to stay extra
06:43stay late because patients needed extra
06:45help and there were many times where I
06:47actually did not get paid for that the
06:48next one on the list is gonna be for
06:50people who are bone aficionados people
06:53who like using the machines that create
06:54x-rays so that you can see into the
06:56human body and that of course is
06:58radiologic technology so at this degree
07:00you're going to be learning how to take
07:02X-rays MRIs and CT scans and during
07:05school you're going to focus on
07:06technical knowledge clinical skills and
07:08Hands-On training and with this one you
07:10can expect to make about sixty one
07:12thousand dollars a year and it's growing
07:13at six percent over the next 10 years so
07:16some of the pros here are there is
07:17extremely high demand for radiologic
07:19technicians and in the healthcare
07:21industry that means you're going to have
07:22a super stable job it also pays a really
07:24good salary especially at the associate
07:26level some of the cons here are you are
07:28going to be exposed to radiation so of
07:30course there's lots of safety procedures
07:32to minimize the amount of radiation
07:33you're exposed to but it can cause
07:35problems over time and another con is it
07:37can be somewhat physically demanding
07:39you're going to have to help patients
07:41move and that can sometimes cause back
07:43injuries over time now the next one on
07:45the list is going to be very similar to
07:47physical therapy assistance and that is
07:49going to be occupational therapy
07:51assistant and I've broken down the
07:52differences before between physical
07:53therapy and occupational therapy but
07:55they definitely do have a lot of
07:57similarities in occupational therapy
07:58also has very high meaning and extremely
08:01high job satisfaction as well so
08:03according to Glassdoor occupational
08:04therapy assistance make about eighty six
08:06thousand dollars a year and it's
08:08expected to grow at about 25 percent
08:10over the next 10 years so some of the
08:12pros here are you are going to be
08:13helping people get a grip on life
08:15sometimes literally if you're working
08:16with kids you might learn how to make
08:18therapy sessions Fun by playing games
08:20and doing arts and crafts and the demand
08:22for OTAs is extremely high meaning
08:24you're going to have good pay and good
08:25job security some of the cons here are
08:27it can be relatively physical as well
08:29and there is limited room for growth now
08:32you might have noticed that there is a
08:33bunch of health related degrees that
08:35dominate at the associate level and I do
08:37think that health related degrees are
08:38the best at this level but there's also
08:40some really good technology related
08:42degrees as well and I'm going to go over
08:44two of them but before I get into them I
08:46do want to say that there's a little bit
08:47of controversy about technology related
08:49careers and degrees because a lot of
08:51these degrees are really good when you
08:53look at the numbers but with that being
08:55said you can get into it without going
08:57to college and getting a degree it's not
08:59as straightforward of a path but the
09:01great thing about the technology
09:02industry is there's not as many
09:04Gatekeepers right so as long as you have
09:06the skills you can get hired for the
09:08career but with that being said getting
09:09a degree in many cases is a great way to
09:11get the skills and in certain cases
09:13getting a degree will give you an
09:14advantage so you really do have to take
09:16this on a case-by-case basis but with
09:18that being said if you want to break
09:20into the technology industry as fast as
09:22possible I highly recommend checking out
09:25course careers I've interviewed a bunch
09:26of people on this channel that have used
09:28course careers in order to get into it
09:30for instance and the best entry-level it
09:32job to get into is help desk and I've
09:35interviewed people on this channel that
09:36have gotten in in seven days 10 days and
09:3814 days and they started off with zero
09:41knowledge of I.T so check out course
09:43career's free introductory course I'll
09:44put it down in the description as well
09:45as the pinned comment below and they
09:47also have a full cohort based course
09:49where you go through it with an
09:50instructor and other people and that
09:52costs around 450 if you use the coupon
09:54code Shane 50 which I'll put down there
09:56as well now the next one on the list is
09:57incredibly important because as we have
10:00all this technology as we're all using
10:02and relying on this technology cyber
10:04crime has been on the rise so people are
10:06stealing passwords and breaking into
10:08bank accounts and in some cases they
10:10might just be stealing your data and
10:12data is incredibly valuable and so of
10:14course I'm talking about a cyber
10:16security degree now according to
10:18Glassdoor cyber security makes around 81
10:20000 a year with an associate's degree it
10:22would probably be a little bit less than
10:24that and information security jobs are
10:25growing at about 35 percent over the
10:28next 10 years now interestingly enough
10:30during this recession there were many
10:32Tech workers who got laid off but it
10:34seems like cyber security was one of the
10:36jobs that was least affected and that's
10:38probably because it's incredibly
10:40important for companies to keep their
10:42own data and people's data safe so some
10:45of the pros here are there's very high
10:47demand for cyber Security Professionals
10:48there's great earning potential the
10:50duration is going to be shorter to get
10:52into it and there's lots of opportunity
10:54for career advancement some of the cons
10:56here are that some of the positions May
10:58either require a bachelor's degree or
11:01prefer it now by the way if a job
11:03posting says that they prefer a
11:04bachelor's degree 100 of the time still
11:07apply to it even if they say they
11:09require a bachelor's degree I recommend
11:11most of the time to apply I can't tell
11:12you how many people I've worked with
11:14who've gotten hired by companies that
11:16required a bachelor's degree in
11:18technology so it's really just a
11:19suggestion and you should probably
11:20ignore it but with that being said some
11:22companies are extremely stubborn they're
11:24stuck in the mud they're stuck in their
11:26old ways and they do actually require a
11:28bachelor's degree another con is this is
11:30a fast paced and evolving field you have
11:33to stay up to date with the newest stuff
11:35that's happening and it can be a very
11:37stressful and high pressure job
11:38especially if if you have a breach or a
11:40leak now the next one on the list is
11:42relatively similar but instead of
11:43focusing on defense and Technology it
11:46focuses on offense and that's going to
11:48be computer science so there's insanely
11:51high demand for this degree it actually
11:52ranked number one on my bachelor's
11:54degree tier list and as an associate
11:56degree it's also really good now again
11:58this is one where a lot of people would
12:00argue that you don't need to go to
12:01college to get a degree and in many
12:03cases people actually start off by going
12:05to college to get a computer science
12:07degree and then they end up getting
12:08hired halfway through so they drop out
12:10and that's why when you look up computer
12:12science degrees they do have some of the
12:14highest Dropout rates now computer
12:15scientists make about a hundred and
12:17fifteen thousand dollars a year and
12:19computer related occupations are
12:20expected to grow by 15 percent over the
12:23next 10 years now with this one there
12:25are certain Specialties that are going
12:26to be better than others and it's
12:28extremely important if you go into
12:29software development that you specialize
12:31so some of the best ones that I
12:33recommend going into are going to be
12:34related to the cloud so AWS Amazon web
12:37services as well as Microsoft Azure now
12:40some of the pros here are extremely high
12:42earning potential and it's also a
12:44constantly evolving field with room for
12:45growth and it's extremely flexible
12:47there's lots of opportunities for remote
12:49jobs and on top of that you can move
12:50into many different roles some of the
12:52cons here are it does require very
12:54strong problem solving skills so
12:55computer science is not an easy major
12:57and you might be responsible for
12:59programming the next technology that
13:01tears the fabric of society apart like
13:03Tick Tock no real talk for a second
13:05though if you look at the graphs for
13:08depression and anxiety in the United
13:10States as well as like all over the
13:12world what you'll find is they started
13:14spiking around the time that social
13:15media came out so this is something I
13:17talk about on my channel sometimes like
13:19delete most of social media right tick
13:21tock Instagram all these sorts of things
13:23I highly recommend that you either
13:25delete it or use it in extreme
13:27moderation but I digress the next one on
13:29the list is going to be another Health
13:31Care related degree and this might be my
13:33favorite one at the associate level and
13:36this is where you're going to be using
13:37ultrasounds in order to see into
13:38people's bodies and that is diagnostic
13:41medical sonography now with this one you
13:43can make about eighty thousand dollars a
13:45year and it's growing at about fifteen
13:46percent over the next 10 years some of
13:48the pros here are extremely good salary
13:50and it actually has a pretty good
13:52opportunity to work in a variety of
13:54different Healthcare settings some of
13:55the cons are it does require pretty good
13:57physical stamina and you have to stand
13:59for long periods of time so you might be
14:01leaning over people in an awkward angle
14:03and that can cause back problems same as
14:05dental hygienists and then another con
14:07is you might be working with patients
14:08who are in pain now if you're still
14:10looking into associate degrees I
14:11actually created an associate degree
14:13tier list that ranks the best and the
14:15worst associate degrees from s tier
14:17which is the best to F tier which is the
14:19worst and you can check that out by
