01:48 so so I picked it I picked the name
01:51 because I knew that it would get
01:52 attention yeah and and it and it it
01:54 basically did for the first three or
01:56 four years doing videos most people
01:58 wouldn't call me Gua because they
02:01 figured it was in flight now everybody
02:05 Gua well i' I've uh softened the the the
02:09 meaning of the word I guess in at least
02:12 away from it I think so yeah so but yeah

03:48 ganged up in me and they said we're from
03:50 naning originally we don't want to live
03:51 in Bay High we want to live in the
03:53 capital city of guy autonomous region so
03:57 I was outnumbered 3 to1 4 to1 actually
04:00 no two guys and two girls but it was it
04:03 was enough so I had to sell my place in
04:05 Bay High and we bought this place in
04:08 2007 okay so that's 17 years ago and the
04:12 city's changed a lot since then oh it's
04:14 there was no highrises back was there a
04:16 Metro or anything no Metro nothing no
04:18 Subway we had old gas buses not even
04:23 diesel buses wow so and it took an hour
04:26 to go from one side of the city to the
04:28 other sure it was only one hour B but it
04:30 took an hour and uh now it uh you go
04:34 from one end to the other it takes five
04:35 R&B and takes you maybe 15 20 minutes
04:40 tops it's crazy it's it's nice it's
04:43 we've got we've got we've got five Metro
04:46 stations maybe Six coming up the sixth
04:48 one I think they're building right now
04:50 we've got state of the we've got an
04:52 international airport now where before
04:54 in 2003 no International Airport it was
04:57 it looked like the prince Albert's atan
04:59 airport there there wasn't a lot but
05:02 there was only 3 million people back
05:03 then and how many is there now uh they
05:05 don't know it's between 8 and 9 million
05:08 so it's just like the population for
05:11 each City CU it's not always accurate is
05:14 it like each year like they it's almost
05:17 like a how do you how how how do you do
05:20 uh a consensus on a city that grows at a
05:25 half a million people a year and so they
05:29 have of urbanization going on especially
05:31 in this area because Guang the
05:33 autonomous region is one of the poorest
05:35 provinces it's not a province it's an
05:37 autonomous region because they've got
05:38 the the Z minority here so uh it's an
05:42 autonomous region so it gets special
05:43 treatment but uh the the urbanization
05:47 here is I think on a scale not seen
05:50 anywhere else in China it's it's it's
05:53 crazy and people move here for jobs they
05:57 move here for for uh better jobs jobs uh
06:00 better education Better Health Care uh
06:03 an easier life you've got Subways you
06:05 don't need to buy a car you you know the
06:08 the the educational institutions are way
06:10 better here than they are in the rural
06:12 areas um there's there's still not a lot
06:16 opportunity in uh in places like bobai
06:18 and ulim you know farming communities
06:20 and such either you're a farmer a
06:23 mechanic or you move to the city okay
06:27 like business and stuff so you make a
06:28 choice they have beer everywhere though
06:31 everyone can afford
06:32 beer so this is like home for you now
06:35 this is home yeah yeah um 3 months ago
06:39 when my wife passed away I sold
06:40 everything in Canada when I came here I
06:43 had uh a a little carryon that's it
06:46 that's all I brought with me and it was
06:48 camera gear and way pong's ashes
06:50 seriously that's that's all I brought
06:52 that's everything you need well because
06:54 we had a home in Canada and a home here
06:57 in uh in naning so I I have all my
07:01 clothes all my everything that I that I
07:03 need to live here in in naning too so
07:07 why bringing extra stuff from so yeah

07:15 thrift stores whatever and uh sold the
07:18 house actually I sold my house in one
07:20 week it was gone seriously yeah so it's
07:23 a oh we lived on Vancouver Island not a
07:24 lot of places for sale and I underpriced
07:27 it by about $20,000 and thing it was
07:30 gone straight oh yeah yeah exactly so so
07:32 that was that was good so yeah I live
07:34 here full time now I don't uh I don't
07:36 want to move anywhere else no no and I
07:39 can travel like I can go to Singapore
07:41 for $ 150 Canadian dollars or I can go
07:44 to uh Metro Manila it's I think
07:48 $105 Canadian very very cheap you know I
07:51 could be in I can be in cm re Cambodia
07:54 or I can be Thailand or Bangkok or
07:56 within a couple hours yeah you can have
07:59 like tropical beach
08:01 orig Mega City or desert Mega City

08:06 you know you can you can uh end up in C
08:09 at the Terracotta Warriors in 2 hours

09:37 things like turtle soup I really don't
09:39 like uh a lot of the fish that they cook
09:42 here is very fishy yeah it's got bones
09:44 in it as well bones in it but it it's
09:46 got a really heavy fish smell so my wife
09:50 was like that she liked the really fishy
09:52 smelling stuff so I I didn't so I don't
09:57 but other than that

10:06 uh probably turtle soup but they small
10:10 so what's turtle soup is an actual
10:12 Turtle yeah turtle and but the skin is

10:21 not it's not the best but they they've
10:26 got this this this uh really fatty fat
10:29 pork they call Coro and for like the
10:31 first 3 four five years I wouldn't touch
10:34 it because it's like it's like it's
10:36 like jaying an old fat lady's
10:40 AR like seriously it's like that
10:43 cellulitis fat but because it's they
10:46 they they've boiled it and they've and
10:48 they've uh and they've deep fried it and
10:50 then they steamed it with terot with the
10:51 spices and stuff the first time I tasted
10:53 it and it was on a dare from my wife's
10:55 uncle I tasted it and now that's my
10:58 favorite food oh it's it doesn't have
11:00 the the texture of fat it has a it has
11:03 it's it's well it's not crisp either
11:05 it's but it's a but it's it's just so
11:07 good but I'm sure if I keep eating it
11:10 I'm going to have to get some stin put
11:11 in some the best though isn't it oh but
11:13 that's just it it's it's the closest
11:19 uh devil food that you can get to but
11:23 they have like uh chassa it's it's sort
11:26 of like a a sweet ham here saan which is
11:30 like a a a sort of a barbecued sausage
11:33 which is which is really good you know
11:35 there's they they've got lots of good
11:36 food here that they've got a a sweet
11:39 tooth in in China with their meats
11:42 which I'm okay with when I make pizza I
11:45 make chassa pizza really you can't buy
11:47 salami no there's no pepperoni oh you
11:50 know so like Pizza Hut for like 2 three
11:53 years they didn't even put tomato paste
11:55 on their pizzas here what was it I don't
11:57 know some white sauce a my God so so
12:01 like yeah like so it just wouldn't work
12:04 so I was making my own pizzas and uh I I
12:07 tried to find salami I tried to find
12:09 pepperoni even ham no ham so I started
12:12 making with Chaw and I think it was
12:13 better with Chaw there you know how you
12:15 say they have a sweet tooth here I did
12:18 not like cakes or sweet things until we
12:20 came to Asia and like I have developed a
12:22 sweet too well since being here even
12:25 their bread has sugar in it yeah it
12:26 smells buttery and sweet well you can't
12:29 find real bread yeah well no in Walmart
12:33 they have those big long French bread
12:37 typ taste different that's that's good
12:39 for like dipping in soup and or chili or
12:42 whatever but as far as bread goes like I
12:45 had I had toast and cheese for breakfast
12:47 because everything was closed down I
12:48 went to my favorite Bowa place no Bowa
12:51 went to my favorite three or four suit
12:54 places all shut down so I had to go home
12:59 couple pieces of toast and some cheese
13:01 like yeah and they're just those tin
13:06 slices cheese try to find cheese here in
13:08 China they're not they possible they're
13:11 well I'm sure you can find it but it's
13:13 so they don't eat much cheese here no
13:15 really not big into dairy products in
13:17 northern China they are but not not here
13:20 we love cheese I know I I do too I I I
13:23 miss that's one of the things I miss
13:24 here is is you know good cheeses like
13:27 blue cheese oh my God blue cheese
13:29 is ridiculous stinkier the better
13:31 exactly is that something you ate when
13:33 you went home to Canada that's all I E
13:35 when cheese buy a big old block of
13:37 cheese and then the next morning you're

13:41 can yeah it's a that's one of the things
13:45 I and I and I miss the like the sandwich

13:51 can make an easy little you know soup
13:53 and a sandwich yeah like a toasty or
13:55 something but here you can go I eat lots

13:59 convenient isn't it they're everywhere

14:03 bucks 10 R&B uh I've got I go out to
14:08 this one Bowser place and I buy two Yumi
14:10 Bowser uh corn corn and pork meat Bowser
14:14 and uh doang uh soya soya milk and it
14:17 cost me 5 R&B wow for breakfast one
14:21 that's that's that's like what uh 50 P
14:24 for us yeah well that's just it so you
14:27 you can't it's hard to spend money on
14:30 yeah yeah which is which is sort of nice

14:38 well you can go out and spend all you
14:41 want on supper or dinner uh there's
14:44 there's high-end restaurants where you
14:46 can spend 1,000 R&B for for two people
14:48 going out but do you think they're worth

14:53 the same it's the same food only as
14:54 fancy that's exactly the same as us

15:21 drink so you can get in there at 4:00 in
15:24 the afternoon you can sit there for
15:26 hours and eat and drink beer by Joe and
15:29 they got not for me
15:31 they I did fording I did a video in this
15:35 place right when they opened and it got
15:38 250,000 views in the first day so they
15:42 were on on Chinese social media so it it
15:45 just filled up so the owner liked me so
15:47 much every time I went there after that
15:48 he just eat whatever you want drink
15:50 whatever it's you know they bring you
15:52 the the big plate of cads and stuff like
15:54 that W that the perks well but you know
15:58 that wears off after a while too you
