00:03Fantastic progress that it has made in

00:05its first decade making a significant

00:08contribution to conservation efforts

00:10across

00:11Africa when the Epi was launched at the

00:132014 London conference on the illegal

00:15Wildlife trade it was inspiring to see

00:18five African leaders come together in

00:20response to the challenge of ivory

00:22poaching they decided that enough was

00:24enough and that the protection of their

00:26elephants was a challenge that they

00:28would tackle together 10 years on the

00:31epi's membership has grown from those

00:34initial five countries to

00:3624 and in that time many of the epi's

00:39original objectives have been

00:41achieved the international trade in

00:43Ivory remains under moratorium with many

00:46African countries closing their domestic

00:48Ivory markets alongside Canada China the

00:52EU the UK the USA Singapore and New

00:57Zealand African countries have taken

00:59significant measures to improve the

01:01security and management of Ivory and in

01:03some cases destroyed their

01:06stockpiles while there are no grounds

01:08for complacency poaching continues in

01:10some areas and the demand for Ivory

01:12still exists there is no doubt that we

01:15are in a better place than we were just

01:17a decade

01:18ago the EPI and its Secretariat the Epi

01:22Foundation has helped make that

01:24happen I've been encouraged to see how

01:26the Epi has responded to challenges in

01:29elephant conservation ation since 2020

01:32it has put a new emphasis on mitigating

01:35and managing human elephant conflict as

01:38rapidly growing human populations

01:40compete with elephants for land and

01:43resources as an African Le initiative

01:46the Epi must take a prominent role and

01:49it is now rolling out new projects to

01:51reduce conflict and spread public

01:52Awareness on the issue the Epi has

01:55carried out Monumental work in elephant

01:57conservation and I offer my

01:59congratulations to the Epi Foundation

02:01but above all to the member states who

02:04took the initiative back in 2014 and

02:06have not wavered in their determination

02:08ever since I wish them every success as
