00:05we're reading from numbers 36 1 to 12.
00:11I'm going to just read a summary of this
00:15an unusual situation that happened
00:20um this this passage is actually
00:23recorded in in five different passages
00:27and this situation that we're going to
00:29read about just keeps coming up again
00:31and again because the law is that
00:37goes through the male and the family
00:41in in the Jewish culture
00:45but there was this one man
00:47zoloftahad who only had daughters
00:50and so since he had no Sons
00:53it meant that there was no one to pass
00:55because pass on the land inheritance and
00:59that family that whole clan would lose
01:01their property rights
01:03and so they had to say well this is the
01:06law but this is unusual circumstance
01:14they make an adjustment and so they
01:16start applying that adjustment and then
01:18there's another problem because if the
01:20ladies and the the daughters marry
01:23outside of the tribe
01:25then the land and that next Generation
01:30um when there is a man there it goes to
01:34another tribe so now we've made an
01:36exception but we need to qualify that
01:38exception so you see this whole story
01:41that first emerges the numbers 26 and
01:44then the number is 27 gets Revisited in
01:47numbers 36 which we're going to read
01:48here then picks up again in Joshua 17
01:50and First Chronicles 7. and this story
01:53keeps developing because they're they
01:56are evaluating they're trying to figure
01:58out how to make all these principles
02:01meshed together in a way that no
02:03Injustice is done and that good is
02:05established for all so it you have to
02:11so let me read this then the heads of
02:13the clans of Gilead descendants of macca
02:15or son of Manasseh son of Joseph came to
02:18Moses and the family leaders of Israel
02:22this Daughters of zalafahad did as the
02:24Lord commanded Moses makla terza hogla
02:28milka and Noah all married cousins on
02:31their father's side they married into
02:33the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph thus
02:36the inheritance of land remained within
02:39their ancestral tribe so They Carried
02:42The Inheritance but they're married
02:44within the tribe and so the Next
02:46Generation everyone was happy
02:50to evaluate is to justify a stand or a
02:53posture or a decision I'm taking this
02:57stand and this is why
02:58and you can explain it you can validate
03:01it that's that's what is going on here
03:03and they're working this out as a new
03:07nation trying to figure out how they're
03:08going to do this and it's a wonderful
03:12of really a multi-year even a
03:16multi-generational process of trying to
03:19understand the ways of God and applying
03:21them in a way that is just and fair and
03:24kind to everyone in that Society
03:28we're all invited to do the same
