00:06chapter 22 verse 8. halkia the high
00:09priest at that time said to shafen the
00:11court secretary I have found the book of
00:14the law in the Lord's Temple then
00:16hilkiah gave the skull to shafen and he
00:19the reason this passage is so exciting
00:22is that it had been a couple Generations
00:24since this book had been lost now
00:28Scholars think that the book of the law
00:30probably refers to the scroll of
00:33Deuteronomy not just a scroll The Scroll
00:37of Deuteronomy like it had been missing
00:39for decades and no one knew where it was
00:42and when Josiah became king
00:45and he at a very young age and he had a
00:49heart for God he asked the levitical
00:52leaders to repair the temple you see his
00:54father and grandfather had been
00:56idolaters they turned away from God they
00:58not only abandoned the true faith in the
01:01Creator redeeming God but they'd
01:04actually brought Idols into the temple
01:06and were using the temple as a place to
01:08worship false gods Josiah wanted to make
01:11all of that right so he ordered them to
01:13clean and rearrange and purify the
01:16temple and in that process they're in
01:19some back room and some storage area and
01:22they find this scroll and had been lost
01:24for all this time this is such a
01:27significant thing so when he said I have
01:29found it this was a momentous
01:33point in history it was a turning point
01:35that was changed the course of what
01:38would happen in the remainder of the
01:40story of Josiah's life and the all who
01:42lived in that generation
01:44everything had been decayed and broken
01:46down but this day that news
01:50there was a fresh hope
01:52so when Chafin the king's secretary took
01:57it back to the king he read it before
02:01wept he tore his clothes and he repented
02:05because as he heard the story of
02:08Deuteronomy God's covenant with Israel
02:10he realized how far they had strayed
02:13from God's purposes and so he called all
02:17the leaders of the society together the
02:20religious leaders the political Leaders
02:22The Business Leaders the cultural
02:24leaders the Educators and together they
02:27met in the central place of the city and
02:30they read the whole book together
02:32all of them wept all of them turned to
02:34God there was cultural societal white
02:38repentance and a great awakening began
02:41one of the greatest times of spiritual
02:43Revival in the history of the nation of
02:48because they went back to the word of
02:51God when you begin with God's revelation
02:53when you begin with God's word you begin
02:56with the foundation that can change
02:58hearts and minds and actions it can
03:01change individuals and families and
03:03whole societies and cultures that is
03:07so as we think about that in our times
03:11let's see a Revival happen in reading
03:15the word of God not just a few verses
03:17here or there but whole books in their
03:20entirety like Chafin did uh when he was
03:25added the scroll of Deuteronomy and may
03:28we learn from God May our education
03:31begin with him and his word and be the
03:34foundation for all that we do from that
