00:10these are words that Jesus speaks on the
00:14and let me back up before I read these
00:16when he finished the last supper and
00:20left with his disciples through the
00:22garden of the Gethsemane and began the
00:24process those last final hours of being
00:27arrested and this mock trial and then
00:30taken to Golgotha to be crucified he
00:34left that last supper singing songs
00:40from The Book of Psalms and so we know
00:43he's saying with his disciples
00:48it's three o'clock in the afternoon
00:53at three o'clock Jesus called out with a
00:58which means my God my God why have you
01:04and we can often misunderstand what's
01:09was God really mean to Jesus at that
01:12moment did he turn his back on him and
01:16no no what is Jesus doing
01:19he's giving the first line of a psalm
01:23just like when we are in a worship
01:25service and we sing let's sing Amazing
01:28Grace those are the first words of a
01:30song and that's how often the titles of
01:32songs are and when you hear Amazing
01:34Grace we know how to what to start
01:36singing so when he said my God my God
01:39why have you abandoned me why have you
01:44this is the opening line of Psalm 22
01:47which is a Messianic Psalm and what he's
01:50saying to all those present if you want
01:52to know what's going on here

02:3043 it says the the crowd said he trusted
02:34God so let God rescue him now if he
02:36wants him for he said I am the Son of
02:38God they the crowd is saying exactly
02:42what the psalmist said would happen in
02:45verse 9 says you brought me safely from
02:46my mother's womb and led me to trust you
02:49at my mother's breast this is a
02:51declaration of his confidence in God not
02:53a sense of Abandonment I was thrust into
02:55your arms at my birth you have been my
02:57God from the moment I was born
03:00there's intimacy of relationship verse
03:0312 but my enemies surround me like a
03:05herd of bulls first Bulls of Bastion
03:10my life is poured out like water and all
03:12my bones are out of joint
03:15you know this is the description of
03:20when you're hanging on the cross the the
03:23weight of your body as is such that
03:26eventually your your joints start
03:30popping your elbows and your knees and
03:33your hips and your shoulders they can't
03:35sustain the weight of the Body for days
03:38on end which is the normal time of
03:40crucifixion uh my heart is like Wax
03:45we know that later on when they
03:47Jesus died and they pierced his side
03:50both blood and water came out when you
03:56um there's usually the the
03:59body is filled the cavities either with
04:02blood or with water but you don't have
04:06occur except in only one occasion when
04:09there's a massive Cardiac Arrest the
04:12heart literally explodes and it just it
04:16disintegrates this is what he's talking
04:19about my strength has dried up like
04:21sunbait clay my tongue sticks to the
04:23roof of my mouth you have laid remember
04:25Jesus said I'm thirsty you've laid me in
04:28the dust and left me for dead my enemies
04:31surround me like a pack of dogs and evil
04:33gang closes in on me they have pierced
04:38how how accurate of a crucifixion Verse
04:4218 in Psalm 20 says they divide my
04:44garments among themselves and full dice
04:47for my clothing which is exactly what
04:50and then verse 19 says You Are My
04:52Strength Lord come quickly to maid
04:55snatch me from the Lion's jaws and from
04:57the horns of these wild oxen I will
05:01your name to my brothers and sisters
05:03I'll pray to you among the assembled
05:06verse 23 praise the Lord all you who
05:09fear Him honor him all your descendants
05:11of Jacob show him reverence all your
05:13descendants of Israel for he has not
05:15ignored or belittled the suffering of
05:17the needy he has not turned his back on
05:19them but he has listened to their Christ
05:20for help God hadn't abandoned him he
05:23doesn't abandon anyone he's not a God
05:25who turns his back on people in need
05:27okay the whole earth verse 27 will
05:30acknowledge the Lord and return to him
05:32all the families of the Nations will bow
05:34down before him for royal power Belongs
05:36to the Lord he Wills all the nations
05:38future Generations will hear about the
05:41wonders of the Lord his righteous acts
05:43will be told to those yet not born they
05:45will hear about everything he has done
05:47that's how this Psalm that begins with
05:49my God my God how have you forsaken me
05:52this incredible Declaration of God's
05:54Victory and the confidence that the good
05:56news of his victory will go through all
05:59the Earth for all the generations to
06:01come this is a song of Triumph and Jesus
06:04who is aware of the empire power of the
06:07Arts quotes this song and expects you to
06:10look at him on the cross and read
06:12through and sing along with him and make
06:15sense of what is going on because the
06:17psalmist the artist The Prophet has
06:20described exactly what God was doing
06:22through our wonderful Savior Jesus at
06:25that moment of History
