00:03this is the first of two passages on the
00:07the sense of smell and this one is about
00:19then Isaac said to Jacob
00:21please come a little closer and kiss me
00:25so Jacob went over and kissed him and
00:27when Isaac caught the smell of his
00:29clothes he was finally convinced and he
00:32blessed his son he said ah the smell of
00:34my son is like the smell of the outdoors
00:36which the Lord has blessed you see Isaac
00:41was old he was almost blind and he
00:44couldn't tell his one son from the other
00:47son he couldn't tell
00:50Esau from Jacob and uh
00:53Jacob was tricking his father with his
00:57mother's help into getting a blessing
00:59that Esau should have had and so
01:01mom knew that Dad wasn't seen very well
01:06that sense of the five senses wasn't
01:09functioning so she made sure that that
01:12Jacob was clothed with Esau's clothing
01:15because it's he smelled it different
01:23when he smelled Esau's clothing on Jacob
01:26that he was blessing Esau
01:33we often say that when we tell the
01:37stories of romance that was love at
01:40actually science tells us that it was
01:43probably love at first smell
01:46but that doesn't sound nearly as
01:48romantic but the Aromas often that are
01:52very subtle that we pick up
01:55even if we can't even our brain doesn't
01:58even register that we're making a
02:01judgment or a decision
02:02but they tell us I like this person I
02:05don't like this person right from the
02:08and think about it maybe
02:11you had a really wonderful Grandma now
02:13not everyone does but more often than
02:16not Grandma's house is a place of
02:20you get a lot more candies at Grandma's
02:23house growing up than you did for Mom
02:25and Dad you got a little more spoiled
02:28pampered at Grandma's house and there's
02:31a place of acceptance you're always
02:33always welcome at Grandma's house
02:37at least that's the hope for desire
02:40and Grandma's house probably has some
02:43Aromas associated with it I remember my
02:47grandmother's house she always had
02:48African Violets and she canned fruit and
02:52and she there were Aromas about that
02:56later in life when I smelled something
02:58like that for some reason I thought I
03:01like this place and I wouldn't think why
03:02do I like this place and I pause on
03:05considering I realized ah that was like
03:09Grandma's home cooking that was like the
03:12smell in Grandma's living room
03:15that was like the perfume that Grandma
03:18used and that that delightful
03:21association between the aroma and a
03:24place of beauty and security of
03:28made me open in that new context
03:33so we need to understand the the power
03:37of of this this idea
03:41we had some friends from
03:43Argentina who went to a an Arts Festival
03:47in Scotland and they performed a
03:50theatrical piece and they got rave
03:53and one of the things that helped us
03:56enable this to happen is because they
03:58understood the power of the five senses
04:00instead of just appearing on stage at
04:03the beginning of the drama the actors
04:06all in attire would be would do the job
04:10of being ushers as they welcomed people
04:12in they would give a rose to the women
04:16and they would give a piece some food
04:20that was typical of Argentina to
04:22everyone and so they would smell the the
04:27flower and they would enjoy
04:29the Aromas of the Argentine culinary
04:33arts and even before the play started
04:36this doesn't usually happen in the
04:38theater there was a winsomeness and
04:40attraction ah that was great they knew
04:43how to use all of their senses in their
04:47Artistry so when they used all these
04:51they won awards they won accolades
04:55because they wisely used all the gifts
04:58that God has given us to build
05:00relationship to bring Beauty to bring
05:03Delight into our lives
