00:00damnit ah goddamnit I just looked at my
00:05analytics and I saw that only 10% of you
00:08are subscribed what the hell do I have
00:10to do to get you guys to subscribe
00:15let's talk about colleges and which ones
00:17are actually worth it what's happening
00:18it's Shane here so chances are if you
00:20clicked on this video you're interested
00:21in knowing if your college or college
00:23you're looking at is a good deal so as
00:25we know many colleges out there are
00:27ridiculously overpriced and you're gonna
00:29end up paying off your student loans for
00:3120 30 40 years before you finally get
00:34out of debt that's a really bad deal a
00:35much better deal in my opinion is to
00:37always remember within the first 10
00:39seconds of the video to always tap like
00:42just because it helps with the YouTube
00:43algorithm and I really appreciate it
00:45I've talked about this a lot before but
00:46it's almost always a good idea to save
00:48as much money as you can when it comes
00:50to going into a college the average
00:51student is graduating with thirty to
00:53forty thousand dollars of debt and by
00:54the time you pay it off sometimes it's
00:56actually double that so in this video
00:57I'm gonna go over some colleges that are
00:59really good value deals and I'm also
01:01gonna go over how you can find the best
01:03value college for your specific
01:05situation number 10 on the list is going
01:07to be Baruch College and I know I'm
01:09probably saying that wrong is probably
01:10like barouche or something like that the
01:12average net cost of Baruch is gonna be
01:14around eleven thousand four hundred and
01:16seventy three dollars now Baruch is a
01:18College in New York City so it has a
01:19really nice prime location and a lot of
01:21the other colleges in New York City cost
01:23ridiculous amount of money and so it's
01:25really refreshing to see one that is
01:27actually a decent deal so for the alumni
01:29that graduate from this college after
01:30ten years they're making somewhere
01:32around a hundred and seven thousand
01:33dollars a year on average and that's the
01:35average of all of the different degrees
01:37combined so that's actually really good
01:39number nine on the list is going to be
01:40UCLA or the University of California in
01:43Los Angeles so the average net cost of
01:45this university is going to be somewhere
01:46around twelve thousand four hundred
01:48dollars this is another one where it's
01:49really nice to see in a really expensive
01:51city like Los Angeles that there's a
01:53university that doesn't cost as much
01:55money now we see that alumni with over
01:57ten years of experience are earning
01:58about a hundred and eighteen thousand
02:00five hundred dollars on average I should
02:01note here with this one as well as the
02:03last one that people who live in New
02:05York and Los Angeles even if they make
02:07more their take-home pay is probably
02:09going to be a little bit less just
02:10because the cost of living is so high
02:12and so if you're making
02:13hundred thousand dollars a year in New
02:15York that's actually not that impressive
02:16compared to making $100,000 a year in
02:19Texas or Louisiana so just keep that in
02:21mind when you're looking at this list
02:23this next one isn't necessarily in a
02:24state that has a really high cost of
02:26living and that's Michigan Technological
02:28University now the average net cost with
02:30this one is going to be around $12,000
02:32and alumni with over 10 years of
02:34experience are going to be making around
02:35a hundred and ten thousand dollars a
02:37year now one thing that you see over and
02:39over again is universities that
02:41concentrate on specific subjects that
02:43tend to pay a lot higher are
02:44universities that tend to be better
02:46deals MTU Michigan Technological
02:48University is a perfect example of this
02:50they concentrate on a lot of degrees
02:52that are going to lead to you getting a
02:54really good career where you're making a
02:56good amount of money and so I wasn't
02:57surprised to see that one on the list
02:59110 thousand dollar salary after ten
03:01years is also quite a bit of money
03:03especially in a state like Michigan
03:04number seven on the list is going to be
03:06the College of William and Mary now it
03:08costs on average about eleven thousand
03:10three hundred and twenty dollars alumni
03:11are going to be making around one
03:13hundred and thirteen thousand six
03:14hundred dollars after ten years of
03:15experience and this one is located in
03:17Virginia so it's kind of in the middle I
03:19guess you could say there's some parts
03:21of Virginia that are really expensive
03:22and there's some parts that aren't
03:23overall this one is a pretty good deal
03:25next on the list is going to be Purdue
03:27University in West Lafayette and no
03:29that's not going to be Lafayette
03:30Louisiana that's actually Lafayette
03:32Indiana now the average cost is going to
03:34be around ten thousand eight hundred a
03:35year and the median salary for alumni
03:37with over 10 years of experience is
03:39going to be a hundred and five thousand
03:40eight hundred dollars now as you can
03:42imagine that 105 thousand goes a long
03:44ways especially in Indiana and so that
03:46is a very nice salary for just everybody
03:49who graduates from the University to
03:50have number five on the list is going to
03:52be the Georgia Institute of Technology
03:54and this is another one that focuses on
03:56technology the average cost is going to
03:58be somewhere around twelve thousand two
04:00hundred dollars a year and the median
04:01salary for alumni with 10 years of
04:03experience is going to be somewhere
04:04around 131 thousand a year now obviously
04:07that median salary is extremely high one
04:10of the highest on the entire list and
04:12again the reason for that is because
04:14they generally stick to the degrees that
04:16only pay really well now additionally
04:18having a salary like that 131 thousand a
04:21year is going to be really good in a
04:23state like Georgia where the cost of
04:24living isn't that high
04:27is going to be the University of
04:28Michigan at Ann Arbor and this is one of
04:30the most popular universities in the
04:32entire country it's also a really good
04:34deal because the average net cost is
04:36going to be somewhere around ten
04:38thousand dollars a year and for that the
04:40median salary of alumni with over 10
04:42years of experience is going to be a
04:43hundred and seven thousand nine hundred
04:45that is really good especially
04:46considering the fact that Michigan is
04:48one of the best public universities in
04:50terms of your education it's one of the
04:52most popular universities so you're
04:54gonna have a huge network on top of that
04:56Michigan is not a state where it costs
04:58that much to live and so this one
05:00overall is just a very good choice and I
05:02would encourage you to look into it
05:04number three on the list is going to be
05:05Massachusetts Maritime Academy now this
05:08is a public College in Massachusetts and
05:10they focus mostly on maritime related
05:12activities so basically degrees that
05:14have to do with the sea or the ocean the
05:16average net cost to attend is somewhere
05:17around ten thousand two hundred dollars
05:19and the median salary for an alumni with
05:21over 10 years of experience is an
05:23amazing 114 thousand six hundred dollars
05:26a year number two on the list is going
05:29to be the University of Washington at
05:30Bothell now this one is actually a
05:32satellite university of the Normal
05:34University of Washington which is
05:36located in Seattle the average cost to
05:38attend is going to be somewhere around
05:39eighty seven hundred dollars a year
05:40which is pretty low compared to all the
05:43other ones on the list for that the
05:44median salary is going to be somewhere
05:46around one hundred and four thousand
05:47dollars a year which is extremely good
05:49especially considering you're living in
05:51a state like Washington where the cost
05:53of living isn't very low and then on top
05:55of that Washington doesn't have any
05:56state income tax so it's no surprise
05:58that the number one on the list is going
06:01to be the other University of Washington
06:03the one that's located in Seattle the
06:04stats for this one are almost the same
06:06the tuition is just a couple hundred
06:07dollars more but you are gonna make
06:09quite a bit more a hundred and eleven
06:11thousand eight hundred dollars a year
06:13compared to the one hundred and four
06:14thousand from the University of Bothell
06:16the discrepancy is probably due to the
06:18high cost of living in Seattle and the
06:20fact that there's a lot of Technology
06:21and high paying jobs in that area now if
06:23you're thinking about attending a
06:24specific University and you're wondering
06:26whether it's a good deal or not what I
06:28recommend doing is looking into the
06:30tuition tracker and there's a really
06:31important reason for this you might
06:33think that you can just look up the
06:34price of a university online I mean they
06:36do all have that posted on their website
06:38but there's a huge difference
06:40between what's known as the sticker
06:41price which is what they have posted on
06:43their website and what students actually
06:45pay so for the purposes of this video I
06:47just had it as the median income bracket
06:49so people who make around 48,000 to
06:52$75,000 a year or rather their family
06:54makes that much but different
06:55universities are going to vary a lot
06:57depending on how many scholarships they
06:59offer what kind of assistance they offer
07:01the grants they offer how much your
07:03family makes they'll they can adjust the
07:06tuition based on that there's so many
07:07different variables so the sticker price
07:09and the actual price are often way
07:12different there are some colleges that
07:14won't help you out at all and so the
07:16sticker price is the entire price of the
07:18college itself there are other colleges
07:19where they might have a sticker price of
07:21$20,000 a year and you end up only
07:23paying about 8,000 this is a hugely
07:25confusing process and that's why it's so
07:27important that you do your research
07:28upfront and you look both of them up so
07:30that you can compare them this is a tool
07:32that will also give you the retention
07:33rates of different schools which is
07:35basically how many of the students that
07:37started off actually ended up finishing
07:39their entire degree at that school this
07:41is generally considered to be a very
07:43good indicator of the quality of the
07:45school itself for instance the number
07:47one on this list the university of
07:49washington has a 94 percent retention
07:51rate and that 94 percent retention rate
07:53is well above the national average now
07:56I've talked about this a lot before but
07:57I am a huge fan of going to a community
08:00college for the first two years and then
08:02transferring those credits that you got
08:04from the Community College to a state
08:05school out of the four big options
08:07Community College state school nonprofit
08:10and for-profit universities those two
08:13the first ones are by far the cheapest
08:15and out of those 2 Community College is
08:17of course going to be cheaper and a lot
08:18of the time community colleges actually
08:20give better education in my opinion than
08:22state schools and public and private
08:24colleges the reason for this is because
08:26the class size is generally a lot
08:27smaller and the professors at community
08:30colleges are professors first whereas a
08:32lot of the time at state schools and
08:34private schools the professors are
08:36researchers first and professors second
08:39so just as an example my first year in
08:41college and I'm not you know trying to
08:42talk crap on my college I feel like a
08:44lot of them are like this a lot of my
08:46lectures were like 300 people and I did
08:48not feel like I was getting a very good
08:50education a lot of the time they were
08:52off of the slides now if you do decide
08:54to go to the Community College route to
08:55save some money which you will save a
08:57ton of money if you do that you do need
08:59to make sure that the state school that
09:00you're planning on going to accepts the
09:02credits from that Community College and
09:04that is a very important step in the
09:06process another thing that you can do to
09:07save money on this whole entire process
09:09is to actually just finish your degree
09:11early now this is an option if you're
09:13taking one of the easier degrees I'm
09:14just not going to sugarcoat it at all
09:16some of the degrees are a lot easier
09:18than others this might not be an option
09:19for you for instance if you're taking
09:21engineering or computer science in fact
09:23you might have trouble finishing it in
09:24four years and you might have to take an
09:26extra year but if you're taking an
09:27easier degree I know a lot of people who
09:29have finished them in two and a half
09:30sometimes three or three and a half
09:32years and that saves a ton of money on
09:34top of this you want to look into
09:35scholarships grants essay writing
09:37contests and all that sort of thing I've
09:39already made entire videos about this
09:41you can check out my channel if you want
09:42to see those and a lot of people when
09:44they go to college they just think that
09:45their student loans are this magical you
09:47know cornucopia of loans and you're
09:49never gonna have to actually pay that
09:51money off and that's just not the case
09:52and that's why so many people fall for
09:54this trap but luckily for you if you're
09:56watching this now you haven't started
09:57college yet you can plan ahead and make
09:59sure that you make good financial
