00:00how to get a computer science degree in
00:02six months at wgu which is western
00:06governor's university that is going to
00:08be the topic of today's video it is a
00:10school that i often recommend to my
00:12coaching and consulting clients it's not
00:14for everybody and i made a video on
00:16whether it's for you or not you can
00:18definitely check that out and another
00:20thing that i talk a lot about on this
00:21channel is computer science degrees
00:23because computer science is a phenomenal
00:25degree to get so you can combine these
00:27two things together and you can get a
00:29computer science degree in six months or
00:31less at wgu and i know that that sounds
00:34like an outlandish claim probably sounds
00:36like really scammy like it's some kind
00:38of for-profit you know useless piece of
00:40paper but it's actually not
00:43what makes you so sure you can get a
00:45legitimate computer science degree in a
00:47very short amount of time at wgu in
00:50extreme cases even less than six months
00:52and i'm going to show you exactly how
00:54you can do that in this video this is
00:56stuff that before now i have only shared
00:58with my college 101 course and
01:00consulting clients so if you're watching
01:02this you are getting a lot of free value
01:04so i would definitely pay attention and
01:06watch it to the very end because if
01:08you're planning on getting a computer
01:09science degree watching this video might
01:11save you sixty thousand dollars and over
01:13three years of your life so if you
01:15appreciate me making videos like this go
01:17ahead and show it by gently tapping that
01:18like button let's see if we can get to a
01:20thousand likes and let's jump right into
01:22it alright so i've gone over what wgu is
01:25and basically how it works in other
01:26videos so i'm not going to go into
01:28detail on that but basically what you're
01:30going to be doing the strategy that
01:31we're going to be using here is
01:33essentially a strategy that i learned
01:34from my good friend josh matakor he's
01:37basically the king of wgu he's gotten
01:39like three different degrees there and
01:41one of the degrees that he got was less
01:43than six months he actually did it in
01:45two months and that was a computer
01:47science degree so he was only enrolled
01:50in wgu for two months to get his
01:52computer science degree and then what he
01:54did before that is he pre-gamed it now
01:57what do i mean by pre-gaming that means
01:59that he got all of the necessary
02:01certifications and classes that he was
02:03going to transfer into wgu from
02:06third-party sources and specifically he
02:08used study.com but we'll get to that in
02:10a moment the first thing you want to do
02:12is you want to contact wgu and transfer
02:16in your existing credits so any classes
02:19that you took already let's say you took
02:20classes at community college or
02:22university or something like that let's
02:24say you also have certifications or
02:26maybe you have a lot of work experience
02:28all of these things can actually
02:30transfer in to wgu in many cases they
02:34are incredibly generous about the
02:35classes that they allow to be
02:37transferred in so you'll go ahead get a
02:39hold of a wgu counselor you'll tell them
02:41what your existing experience is you'll
02:43send them your transcript and they will
02:45send you back a document and this
02:47document is basically going to be like a
02:49degree plan that tells you which classes
02:51you still need to take at wgu in order
02:54to graduate with your degree and i'm
02:56going to go over an example of what this
02:58would look like a little bit later in
02:59the video now don't enroll in wgu at
03:02this point okay you want to go on to
03:03step two which is for you to use
03:06third-party companies in order to test
03:09out of a bunch of these classes so
03:11typically bachelor's degrees require
03:13about 40 classes overall and using the
03:16methods i'm going to show you you can
03:17very comfortably even if you're doing it
03:19part-time test out of one class per week
03:22now there's 52 weeks in a year and
03:24there's 40 classes overall that you have
03:26to take and a tremendous amount of them
03:28sometimes over half of them you can test
03:30out of with study.com and the great
03:32thing about using these alternative
03:33methods is you don't have to buy a
03:35textbook or required quizzes or sit
03:37through boring classes or do boring
03:39projects you can do it all at your own
03:42pace and many of my consulting clients
03:44will tell me that it only takes about
03:45one day to pass many of these classes
03:48now when i was working with my
03:49consulting clients in the past one of
03:50the most common problems i saw them
03:52having is they have a lot of trouble
03:54figuring out which classes transfer in
03:57it's just very confusing you know wd
04:00does do a great job but they're not
04:01going to hold your hand with this
04:03because again at the end of the day
04:05they're making less money when they
04:06allow you to transfer stuff in so
04:08they're not going to make it easy for
04:10you so what we did is we put together a
04:12guide that shows the exact
04:13certifications that transfer into
04:15different classes and the exact
04:17study.com classes as well as
04:19straighterline or sofia if study.com
04:22doesn't have the classes that transfer
04:24in as well and this is going to be like
04:26a living breathing guide that we are
04:27going to update as things change because
04:29a lot of the times these websites will
04:31add new classes so i'm going to jump
04:33into that spreadsheet really quickly so
04:35we're going to switch to the screen all
04:36right so this is the spreadsheet that's
04:38probably going to pop up if you click
04:39the link down in the description below
04:41we're thinking about putting this on a
04:42website uh just so it's even more useful
04:45but yeah it's gonna look something like
04:47this if you click the link down in the
04:48description or the pinned comment and as
04:50you can see we're mapping out pretty
04:52much every single class at wgu and we
04:56show the amount of certs that you can
04:57transfer in that's certifications or
04:59certificates and then also the number of
05:02study.com transfers so as you can see
05:05computer science has 25 different
05:07classes that you can transfer in as well
05:09as two certs network operations and
05:11security is even better 23 different
05:14classes and eight certs and you can
05:16actually just click on computer science
05:19and then click on this
05:21and it will bring you to the tab that
05:23shows all of the classes that transfer
05:25in for computer science you can scroll
05:26down and see all of it and if you ever
05:28want to go back home you can just click
05:31boom it brings you back now if you look
05:33on the side here you'll see what type of
05:35class it is so all of the ones in green
05:37are general education classes all the
05:40ones in yellow are core and then the
05:42ones in red are program specific and
05:44then you can also see which
05:46certifications transfer in now there's
05:49some types of degrees that have a ton of
05:51certs a lot of the different you know
05:52technology ones do and then some of them
05:54don't really have that many certs or
05:56none at all but as you can see there are
05:58two different certifications that you
05:59can transfer in that cover these classes
06:02at wgu now we actually only put the
06:04recommended classes that wgu wants you
06:07to transfer in just because it just
06:09makes the process a lot more smooth if
06:11you take the recommended classes we also
06:13put the course id on the left and the
06:16study.com class id as well which is
06:20the course id for english composition 1
06:25and then to make it even easier if you
06:27click on that link it's going to bring
06:29you directly to the study.com class so
06:32this is the study.com class right here
06:33english 104 college composition 1. it's
06:36much cheaper than college of course but
06:38it does have a cost if you use the code
06:40shane hummus you're going to get 30 off
06:42for your first three months so i highly
06:44recommend doing it and it would help the
06:46channel out so i would appreciate that
06:47because we did work very hard on this
06:49and one other thing i wanted to mention
06:51is we primarily put study.com on there
06:53because we think it's the best but uh
06:56sometimes study.com doesn't have the
06:57class so in those cases we include
06:59sophia or straighterline and in the
07:02future if study.com has a class or if
07:04sophia or straighterline have a class
07:06that study.com doesn't offer we will be
07:08updating that and we'll try to keep the
07:10link updated so if you click on it now
07:12it might be different than the one later
07:14so just keep that in mind for instance
07:16when josh got his computer science
07:17degree i believe he told me he did take
07:19calculus using straighterline but now
07:21study.com offers it now after you finish
07:23doing this process what you want to do
07:25is transfer it in to wgu so you would
07:28tell your counselor which classes you
07:30took you would transfer those in and
07:32then they would send you another sheet
07:33back that tells you how many classes you
07:36have left and at this point you would
07:37move on to step three and that is you
07:40want to pre-study the classes that you
07:42have left so we're not enrolling in wgu
07:46yet okay still not enrolling once you
07:48get that list of classes that you have
07:50left which you know if you've taken a
07:52lot of classes it's probably going to be
07:53a pretty short list you want to start
07:55pre-studying them before you even enroll
07:58in wgu and the reason you want to do
08:00this is because you want to be able to
08:01finish those classes as fast as possible
08:03once you enroll so that you only have to
08:06pay for maybe one or two terms at wgu
08:09now there are many different ways that
08:11you can study for this stuff and it
08:12really depends on the classes you take
08:14and all kinds of stuff like that there's
08:15so many different sources that you can
08:17use online to study for different
08:19computer science related stuff but some
08:21of the ones i've heard are really good
08:23is a free code camp that one is
08:26the odin project i think that one's free
08:28as well khan academy is phenomenal uh
08:31for classes like calculus for instance
08:33that one is free code with mosh i've
08:35heard is really good for coding related
08:37stuff and udemy is good as well now
08:39those last two options do cost some
08:41money but they're relatively cheap now
08:42if you're a textbook type of person you
08:44can order a textbook from a few years
08:46ago if it's like calculus or something
08:47like that for relatively cheap something
08:49like 10 to 15 dollars and there's lots
08:51of old textbooks that are just fine you
08:53definitely don't have to order one from
08:55this like brand new or anything like
08:57that just order one from a few years ago
08:58that's like 10 or 15 bucks then once
09:00you've completed this process of
09:02pre-study and you're ready to basically
09:04take these classes whiz through them and
09:06pass the test as fast as possible this
09:09is the part where you would contact your
09:10counselor and tell them that you want to
09:12enroll and this is where we're gonna
09:14move on to step four which is complete
09:16the remaining classes as fast as
09:18possible now the classes that are left
09:20you can really knock them out super fast
09:23if you've done a good job pre-studying
09:25so for instance josh was able to knock
09:27out all of the classes in two months
09:29once he enrolled in wgu and keep in mind
09:31i believe he was working full time while
09:34he was doing this as well right so if
09:36he's able to do it while he's working
09:38full-time and he has a youtube channel
09:40and he has a life you know you could
09:42probably do this relatively easily now
09:43when it comes to different strategies to
09:45pass the classes that you have to take
09:47at wgu i would look at the wgu subreddit
09:51because they typically have really good
09:53strategies to pass those classes as fast
09:55and efficiently as possible also make
09:57sure to take advantage of the course
09:59instructors at wgu if you're having any
10:01difficulty with the classes they can
10:03definitely help you out alright so the
10:05overall strategy summary is step one
10:07transfer in your existing credits if you
10:09have them step two pre-game the courses
10:12using study.com straighterline or sofia
10:15step three pre-study the remaining
10:17courses and then step four enroll and
10:20complete the remaining classes as fast
10:22as possible hey guys so i'm just going
10:24to quickly show you exactly what i mean
10:27and how you can do this strategy so step
10:29one you would you know make sure to look
10:32at the spreadsheet because it's just
10:33going to make everything really easy for
10:35you and you would go ahead and just like
10:37transfer in the existing classes you've
10:39already taken so i kind of just put it
10:41on the tabs this is just an example
10:44and i basically just crossed out the
10:46classes that you might have already
10:47taken so let's say you went to a
10:48community college for one semester you
10:50didn't really like it but you passed
10:52some classes right so you passed like an
10:54english class you passed a
10:55communications class an art class
10:58and you passed a math class so you would
11:00transfer those into wgu and that's why
11:03you see them you know crossed out let's
11:05say you also took an it certification
11:08the itil because you thought maybe you
11:10want to go into it but you decided you
11:12know you want to do computer science
11:14instead but you took the certification
11:16so you might as well transfer that in as
11:17well so before you even started at wgu
11:20you've already got five classes out of
11:22the way then you'd get that paperback
11:24from the counselor which shows you which
11:25classes you have to take next and it
11:27would look pretty much exactly like this
11:29spreadsheet so this spreadsheet is
11:30basically just a cheat code you don't
11:32even have to wait for them so next you
11:34would test out of all of the classes
11:36that you can take at study.com
11:39straighterline or sofia and i put those
11:42in red and then i cross them out just to
11:44illustrate which ones you can do that
11:45with so if you look down here it is a
11:47significant amount of the classes and
11:50you also decided to get your comptia
11:52project plus certification as well so
11:54you were able to transfer that in two
11:56and after taking all those classes from
11:58study.com and just deleting all of the
12:00ones that you you know don't have to
12:01take anymore this is what the remaining
12:03classes would look like right so one two
12:06three four five six seven eight 9 you
12:09only have 9 classes left that you have
12:12to take then you would go ahead and
12:14pre-game these classes so you'd go ahead
12:17and pre-study these classes so that when
12:19you enroll in wgu you can knock them out
12:22as quickly as possible and again if you
12:24email your counselor and look at the wgu
12:27subreddit you're gonna have a really
12:28good idea of what you need to learn in
12:30order to pre-game these classes and then
12:33once you've studied them you'd go ahead
12:34and roll in wgu and knock these out as
12:37quickly as possible and you can probably
12:39do it in one term which is like six
12:41months maybe two terms at the most and
12:44in extreme cases if you really take this
12:46stuff seriously you can do it in
12:47something like two months just like josh
12:49did so the first part of the process
12:51might take you three months and the
12:52second part of the process if you do it
12:54really quickly would take you another
12:55two months so you could actually get an
12:58entire degree in six months now
13:00realistically most people you know
13:03they're probably not going to do it that
13:04fast but it's very realistic to finish a
13:07degree in less than two years and in
13:09some cases even less than a year all
13:11right so definitely check that
13:12spreadsheet out josh matakor and i
13:14worked really hard on mapping all the
13:16different degrees out so take a look at
13:18that also check out josh's channel
13:20because he's basically the king of wgu
13:22and check out my other video right here
13:24because i made it just for you and i
13:26think it's going to be great if you are
13:27interested in this one and you made it
