00:00what's happening welcome back to the
00:02channel today I have a very special
00:04guest I got Lance on the channel and he
00:07was able to land a job in digital
00:10marketing and about four months or so
00:12after discovering it on my channel so
00:15Lance thank you so much for uh coming on
00:18and sharing your story today yeah no
00:20thank you for having me Shane it's a
00:21honor to be here man awesome so uh let's
00:24go ahead and just start from the
00:25beginning maybe just tell the audience a
00:28little bit about your background and
00:30kind of where you came from and how you
00:31discovered digital marketing yeah
00:33absolutely uh so my background I
00:36graduated with a bachelor's in health
00:38education back in 2021 uh once I
00:42graduated school I I
00:45graduated in Arkansas so took off from
00:48Arkansas to Colorado for six months to
00:51do an Americorps Vista Service uh term
00:54which is a federal volunteer program
00:57basically that program got cut short due
01:00to both of the organizations I was
01:02working for dissolving so that left me
01:04to move back in with my mother around
01:06December of 2021 I live with her and
01:09worked at Chick-fil-A for about a month
01:12and realized that I just could not take
01:15living with her anymore so took off
01:18luckily I had a friend back in central
01:20Arkansas that was willing to house me
01:22while I got on my feet so I took off
01:24back to Central Arkansas started living
01:26with him lived with him from about
01:30or until about February and then finally
01:32moved into my own place I was working
01:34fast food uh that job maybe lasted of
01:38two months and then I started working in
01:41a warehouse and in that job that job
01:43basically lasted like two or three
01:45months and then finally I landed a job
01:48in public health uh at a local health
01:51unit here in Conway Arkansas and from
01:54there I made it three months in the
01:57public health system and uh at during
01:59this whole time I had been watching your
02:01videos I was watching a lot of your tier
02:03videos on uh basically just ranking
02:06college degrees trying to figure out my
02:08path listening to a lot of Dave Ramsey
02:10was getting really heavy into personal
02:11finance I've always been in a personal
02:13development so I was really honing in on
02:16trying to get out of debt uh I had I
02:19have 50k of student loan debt so it was
02:21really Weighing on me at this point and
02:24I just knew the only way that I was
02:27going to make this happen is to get a
02:30so started exploring more around your
02:33channel found your uh interviews between
02:35you and Seth and some of the other
02:37alumni from this course bought the
02:39course back in August at around the end
02:42of August completed the course in about
02:44a month and then immediately started
02:46applying to jobs I had been generating
02:48my own experience done everything in the
02:51and from there I started getting
02:54interviews from the company that I work
02:56at and around November and then ended up
02:59getting a job offer for 51k in December
03:02and yeah I've been with the company for
03:04almost a month now and that's where I'm
03:06at today and that's awesome all right
03:08well you told basically the whole story
03:10right there that's uh you went all the
03:12way through it but that's good man um
03:14cool so I I like that analogy you used
03:16about the uh the shovel that's a great
03:18analogy it's basically like there's
03:20certain career paths where
03:22you know the the analogy is kind of like
03:24shoveling dirt if you want to make more
03:27money or shovel more dirt you you just
03:30need to get like a big shovel because
03:31there's certain career paths that are
03:32like trying to shovel dirt with a spoon
03:34I mean it's just yeah you're pretty much
03:37never going to be able to reach your
03:38personal finance goals uh with those
03:41types of career paths but you know then
03:42there's other career paths where you get
03:44a nice big shovel and it's like pretty
03:45easy to to shovel dirt or or make money
03:48so yeah I really like that uh that
03:51analogy Dave Ramsey he's he's good I
03:54don't agree with everything he says but
03:55he gives really good advice overall
03:57especially when it comes to just like
03:59staying out of debt and and uh and just
04:01kind of like good advice for the average
04:04person I'd say it's like really good
04:06yeah yeah and that yeah I think that's a
04:08lot there's a lot of value in just that
04:10alone just staying out of debt just
04:12really getting just get getting rid of
04:15that mentality of like this is just how
04:17it's always going to be that paycheck to
04:18paycheck oh I'm just gonna stay broke
04:20what was me mindset that a lot of people
04:22get stuck in uh I do appreciate the kick
04:25in the butt that I got from that for
04:27sure absolutely yeah he he kind of has
04:30to be a little bit extreme I think just
04:31to get that message across
04:34um like you know with people calling in
04:36and stuff like that I I get it I get it
04:39be a little a little extra just to get
04:41that that message across
04:43um and yeah it's one of those things
04:45where it's just so accepted in society
04:47that 17 and 18 year olds should be able
04:50to take out a hundred thousand dollars
04:52to get a bachelor's degree it's like
04:55totally accepted in society yeah oh yeah
04:57spend a hundred thousand dollars to get
05:00a a degree where honestly most degrees
05:02are useless you know there's certain
05:04degrees that are great
05:07um and they will give you a good Roi and
05:09then a lot of them are useless and
05:12that's just that's just kind of the the
05:13fact of the matter and I think you were
05:16kind of you were kind of telling me like
05:18before the the interview kind of your
05:20thoughts on that you know so you got a
05:22public health education degree I believe
05:25and first of all you had a lot of
05:28trouble even being able to get a job in
05:30public health but then when you actually
05:32did get a job you ended up really not
05:35liking it unfortunately
05:37um so can you kind of talk on that a
05:39oh man I'll try not to get too
05:41pessimistic on this one because I that I
05:47I realized in my last semester of school
05:49I was doing an internship I was doing an
05:52internship at a local hospital it's one
05:55of the biggest hospitals in central
05:56Arkansas in Arkansas actually period
06:06it was kind of like this Mirage honestly
06:09it was like of it was like an illusion
06:12of like where I you know like where it'd
06:15be nice if I could work that wasn't
06:17really where a lot of the jobs were in
06:20my field at all uh why was that even an
06:23opportunity for me I have no idea
06:26so basically I was working at this
06:28Hospital getting this patient education
06:30experience which is actually a job that
06:33mostly 99 of nurses do like I just so
06:37happen to be like the one percent they
06:39got tossed into this role uh but
06:42that experience just did not count
06:46public health related so it left me in
06:49that last semester I'm trying to apply
06:51I'm like hey I got three months of this
06:53and they're like well you've never
06:55worked in government it's like well it's
06:57like well that's fantastic you know I
06:59have like this Healthcare experience but
07:01uh no applicable skills to the workforce
07:05that I'm even trying to go into so it
07:07was like my degree program set me up for
07:10failure rather than setting me up for
07:12Success yeah so it was yeah I ended up
07:14being a total waste of money uh for the
07:17four years of education and then on top
07:19of that it's like a slap in the face
07:21it's like we're gonna give you like this
07:22experience that is also useless so it's
07:25like to go with your useless degree I
07:27worked in the local health unit and I
07:30was basically like a glorified cashier
07:33uh capped out at 35k and
07:39that I had was just you know work
07:41through that for a year and then
07:42potentially make 45k and then I was
07:45looking at more of the opportunities it
07:47was like Max I could make was like
07:5050k without getting a master's degree so
07:52I have to go like you know I have to go
07:54another 20K into debt you know just to
07:57go make 50k uh whereas in digital
08:01my first offer after completing Seth's
08:04course was 51k uh and that's that's
08:08first year that's I I built my own
08:11WordPress website ran my own campaign
08:13for one month and then started applying
08:16for jobs I managed maybe like a hundred
08:19and fifty dollars on that campaign fast
08:21forward I'm now making 51k and I'm
08:24managing 30 to 50K a month in ad spend
08:27on Google ads 500 000 a year
08:32that's a huge leap yeah that is an
08:35absolute leap and now now what that's
08:40since my starting salary is so high and
08:43I'm already getting this hands-on
08:45experience with this much ad spin
08:47I now like I can now choose to never
08:51manage less than that or make less than
08:53that like it's just not going to happen
08:57I just like I it was like I the career
09:00path to me getting that
09:02was like maybe 10 years in extra
09:05education in the path that I was on
09:08whereas now I was like it's like I'm
09:10basically I'm just on a rocket ship to
09:14yeah and then so the salary is awesome
09:17but what about the other things like
09:19work-life balance and and just job
09:21satisfaction in general compared to what
09:24you were doing before it's amazing uh
09:26you know I so I don't work from home but
09:28I do work remotely I work in a
09:30co-working space uh just for mental
09:33health reasons but yeah I mean I'm able
09:35to go in whenever I want if I don't have
09:378 AM meetings I don't have to be on a 8
09:39am I'm an early riser so I just I just
09:42like to be kind of like in whenever you
09:45know whenever I can so I'm just up and
09:46at them but I mean the work life balance
09:49is great you're not expected to be you
09:51know like on the clock there's no one
09:53watching me uh they're not monitoring my
09:56you know how many times my mouse moves
09:58or whatever like how long I'm online
10:00it's all basically it's it's just am I
10:03producing output in my meeting like I go
10:06over the weekly priorities with my boss
10:08and I I choose okay where am I going to
10:11go above and beyond how am I going to do
10:13that how what are the hours it's going
10:15to take uh how much work do I need to
10:17stay late today because I have a
10:19deadline tomorrow it's just you know
10:21it's just I have the flexibility to do
10:23that and if I need to go grab you know
10:25food or go to an appointment or whatever
10:28I don't have to take PTO I don't you
10:31know it's just maybe I'll work a little
10:32bit later or I don't have any deadlines
10:34to meet and I've completed all my work
10:36for the week so if I need to go catch a
10:38dentist appointment on Friday to get my
10:40teeth cleaned then I don't have to make
10:42that up it's just there's that option
10:45there's so much flexibility in that got
10:47it yeah that's awesome that's awesome
10:49and it's only going to get better from
10:51here I mean you got your first entry
10:54level job you got your foot in the door
10:55that's always the hardest thing to do
10:57getting that first job is always the
10:58hardest it's honestly it just gets
11:00easier and easier after that when you
11:02have that valuable skill set
11:05so what would you say to somebody who's
11:08kind of on the fence about the the
11:11course which by the way I will put down
11:13in the description as well as the pin
11:14comment below a free master class from
11:17Seth he basically explains the different
11:19types of digital marketing different
11:21career paths you can go down because
11:22there's more than just like
11:23pay-per-click there's also SEO sem Etc
11:26and he explains what all those things
11:28are because digital marketing is
11:29actually pretty broad terminology
11:32there's many different career paths
11:34within it so I'll put that down in the
11:36description as well as a pin comment
11:37below you can check it out but what
11:39would you say to somebody who's kind of
11:40on the fence about uh taking Seth's
11:43yeah I would say I would say if you're
11:46thinking that college may be the correct
11:49path and that this course just because
11:52that it's just useless I would say first
11:56go try to find a negative review on
11:58Seth's course because you're not gonna
12:00find one because those who didn't who
12:03didn't land where I landed they didn't
12:05complete the course and they didn't do
12:06everything that Seth talks about in the
12:09course those who did everything in stick
12:12to it end up where I'm at 100 of the
12:16time I I haven't found anyone who was
12:18like oh I did everything correctly to a
12:20T and it didn't work out it just I have
12:23not seen that and this is one of the
12:26only courses online that you will find
12:27like that so if you're thinking like oh
12:30it's just a 700 course I mean this 700
12:34course really gave me like I don't know
12:37like I can't even calculate the return
12:38on investment here so I would say just
12:41don't just don't you know just don't
12:43live in that illusion that you have to
12:45go to school or you have to have this
12:47degree or you know whatever like this is
12:49this is this skill is high we're just in
12:52such a white hot Market with digital
12:54marketing right now everything is
12:55exploding and I mean just look at Ai and
12:58Technology right now like it's all still
13:00rapidly evolving so I mean it's not like
13:03none of this stuff is slowing down and
13:05AI is not going to take over it's not
13:07the end of the world no like this is
13:09this this is just the beginning and and
13:12so if you're on the fence and you're
13:13watching this and and you know in your
13:16heart that college just you don't want
13:18to be in debt or you're tired of being
13:19in debt or you don't want to take out
13:21debt or you don't want to go to school
13:22and you want actual in-demand skills and
13:26you want that kind of flexibility and of
13:28course you like the work if you're like
13:30okay I can I can do marketing I I I'm
13:32into that go for it just send it that's
13:36awesome man yeah it's funny you
13:38mentioned the AI thing yeah it's like
13:39that's what uh the flavor of the week
13:41right now everyone's freaking out about
13:44AI because chat GPT came out in reality
13:47it's it's only gonna increase the
13:50standard for what like good content or
13:52good marketing looks like yeah it's
13:54going to help people who are already
13:56good at content creation create better
13:59um it's helping me even a little bit I
14:01use it a little bit but um
14:04it's not going to take away the jobs I
14:06mean come on this is like if anything
14:09it's going to create more jobs look at
14:11every single time in history that
14:12something like that has happened it just
14:15ends up creating more jobs so it yeah it
14:18it destroys like certain jobs maybe like
14:21redundant jobs but it creates more
14:23important jobs so yeah and then uh yeah
14:26a few months back everyone was freaking
14:27out about the tech layoffs because like
14:29less than one percent of the tech
14:31Workforce got laid off or something like
14:33that so everyone was freaking out about
14:35it it's like come on man yeah there's
14:37it's just not going anywhere like I mean
14:39it's here to stay like whether we like
14:41it or not uh I mean that's just the
14:44reality like no matter what you're
14:46seeing in news feed says you know it
14:48just that none of that matters it's like
14:51this is reality like we are here we are
14:53in the technology revolution in seven
14:56years things are going to be way crazier
14:57than they are now and we're just seeing
14:59the take off of everything so it it's
15:02only going to get bigger like it's not
15:04shrinking the market is not shrinking
15:06check out another interview I did right
15:09here with someone who is able to get a
15:11job in digital marketing at 16 years old
15:14that's probably the craziest digital
15:16marketing interview I've done so far
