00:00 you know me and my crazy jobs I get up
00:02 to well this one I'm helping somebody
00:05 renovate and restore this APC symmetra
00:09 LX battery pack for their server room
00:13 and these batteries have a little eom in
00:16 them that every time it encounters an
00:18 error it ticks it up and whenever that
00:21 number gets too high it will no longer
00:24 use the battery pack anymore so even if
00:26 you replace the batteries if that eom
00:28 isn't reprogrammed then and the system
00:31 will just never activate the battery
00:33 pack and I've gotten quite far at
00:37 reprogramming it I've had a few
00:40 instances where it seemed to work but it
00:42 didn't quite work I'm working on a
00:44 bigger video but I just want to document
00:45 this real quick just for you guys in
00:48 case it takes a while for me to upload
00:49 this and somebody really needs the
00:54 so I've scrunched on the internet and I
00:56 found the remnants of forum posts I I
00:58 found people on Forum posts talking
01:02 about other Forum posts on Russian
01:07 and well let's see if it works I have my
01:11 latest version programmed into this and
01:14 I'm just putting this back
01:22 together I was going to plan I I was
01:25 going to film this the other day but
01:28 then I I realized that the battery
01:30 backup has a web interface and then I
01:34 realized oh shoot something's really
01:36 wrong with whatever I did with the code
01:38 because the information isn't coming up
01:40 when I go to a certain window so I did
01:41 something wrong let's see the proof will
01:45 pudding let's see if this new version of
02:12 okay now to see if that actually
02:15 works so we have this laptop to use for
02:18 the programming of the rivel prog is
02:21 which is working really good for this
02:24 really plug andplay but this is
02:26 flickering for the for the camera and my
02:29 friend happen to give me this Fujitsu
02:32 tablet they they do software for
02:37 and he happened to have this laying
02:39 around so he gave this to me I spent a
02:42 few days cleaning it up happens to work
02:44 out this looks great on the camera and
02:48 it's a nice little self-contained unit
02:49 running Windows 7 so I have it connected
02:52 up to the symmetra LX 16,000 now and I
02:57 Diagnostics it's amazing to be given
02:59 access to this I could I could actually
03:02 trigger a self test just from here so
03:06 everything looks pretty good of course
03:07 it's complaining about the batteries you
03:08 put back in because we wanted to see
03:10 what would happen and just kind of
03:18 Diagnostics then the first thing I
03:20 notice is three out of six so it's
03:23 registering that battery is good which
03:27 and oh the tou isn't this is meant to go
03:30 with a pen so here we go and Battery one
03:35 is okay that's the one that we put in
03:38 now the other issue was that or the
03:39 issue was that battery 2 and Battery 5
03:41 weren't coming up with any information
03:44 and all the other ones that are that I
03:49 for but look at that battery
03:52 one it's coming up perfectly fine and so
03:55 in the rest of the system it'll also
03:56 come up because we got the check some
03:58 right now the difficult part is in how
04:01 to change the check
04:04 sum let's just open up the little
04:06 software for the riv
04:11 progue 93c 66b I don't have it actually
04:15 in front of me we're going to grab that
04:18 one and we're going to pull that out and
04:23 though oh no we are not going to do this
04:26 one it spewed something out and
04:33 2015 now in order to read the voltage on
04:46 it let's see is it this and
04:49 this yeah those connectors
04:54 no whoa what this thing's falling apart
05:03 while I'm at it I might as well
05:06 grab battery battery one
05:10 two three battery four okay let's grab
05:18 zero one two 3 my date test
05:27 one let's see if that disconnected
05:35 it oh there we go battery 3 not
06:08 oh that's a good voltage yeah so so
06:15 2020 I I I erased the error codes so it
06:19 was charging it again but I didn't get
06:22 the check some right when I Chang the
06:26 so the board is right here on the inside
06:30 let's open that up and we can actually
06:31 take it out without undoing the
06:33 batteries so if your battery pack with
06:35 the if the batteries themselves still
06:37 have a little bit of life left in them
06:39 you don't have to disassemble it too
06:41 much what I've actually figured out
06:43 because there isn't enough videos online
06:47 it and a lot of this troubleshooting
06:49 should transcend over to other battery
06:55 systems one thing to keep in mind is
06:59 whoever ever refurbished these packs in
07:02 2020 well okay let me clarify not not
07:04 whoever refurbished them
07:08 but whoever dealt with these were really
07:11 rough on some of them and I imagine they
07:14 probably went through a recycling
07:15 company and they didn't care at all
07:17 about it so they they stripped out the
07:18 screws and bent the metal like crazy but
07:22 you just want to keep that in mind where
07:23 these screws they've been ripped out
07:25 pretty quick because they just wanted to
07:27 scrap the batteries and then the next
07:29 person was delicate with it
07:31 but the threads are really weak on some
07:35 these I'm just going to take this
07:38 out and then in order to get to the chip
07:43 you don't have to unplug the wires you
07:45 make sure it's off though but I just
07:48 pull the middle one
07:50 out and I move it over like
07:56 so pull this one out
07:59 and then move this one
08:04 over so now we have enough room to get
08:08 to the Chip And to get the chip out
08:12 right I get my pocket
08:17 knife just get it open a little bit like
08:20 that and then I found this little tool
08:22 piece of bailing wire would also
08:30 push up on the far sides of
08:43 this and let's move it over to
09:01 66b oh I got it right okay you want the
09:16 let's let's read it and there we have it
09:22 oh the touch isn't quite so
09:26 good hey you know what
09:31 dark then also what we want to do is we
09:34 want to use cheum 16 instead of
09:41 crc32 now if I were to select
09:45 these uses checksum
09:47 16 now when I read this little
09:51 eom it has the altered version which
09:54 I've accidentally messed up but I have
09:58 the original version saved
10:05 so this was the original
10:07 version this is the collection of error
10:11 information this is the date and this is
10:13 the serial number and
10:17 so this right here the
10:19 6a9 is the check sum in order to read
10:28 select like that then you see 196a is
10:33 the result of that added up well for
10:36 some reason on their system they have a
10:39 6819 but you have to select all that and
10:42 then it calculates the check sum and you
10:44 enter that in those two
10:46 digits it has no use of the odd bytes
10:51 because if I understand right it's only
10:53 using half the registers for
10:56 Simplicity well let's go in and change
11:10 zero okay I'm getting a little tired of
11:13 that so we go there to there to
11:18 F4 now I'm going to be changing
11:22 this to an asky 3 cuz that's
11:25 2023 and well it happens to be December
11:28 so don't have to worry about
11:33 however select this and make that a
11:38 one and select that and make it
11:47 today I believe it's the 17th 18th don't
11:52 use the backspace function or anything
11:53 CU that'll mess up with this but you
11:55 just tap each digit well now
11:59 that has changed the check
12:12 1973 so I'm going to take
12:19 073 okay let's just do
12:30 7319 and that should be all of the
12:34 information reset I'm just going
12:45 test I got too many save files but I
12:48 think this is the thing that you need to
12:50 do and anything after that check some it
12:52 doesn't really care about so we're going
13:03 okay now this is on
13:07 there and I have a little trick up my
13:18 sleeve and this goes with a DOT facing
13:30 there it's inserted a little bit wonky
13:34 but I'm actually really excited to make
13:39 because not the video I'm making
13:41 currently but I mean the one
13:43 that I hope to do a nice big video about
13:46 this whenever we get the new batteries
13:47 in because we've already ordered the
13:49 batteries and once I get through
13:51 actually understanding this I can make
13:55 infographic to help with this
14:11 okay let's see if that
14:26 worked while I'm at it I should probably
14:28 turn off a lot of those ones down there
14:30 since they're just mostly making this
14:35 beep oh it detected the fourth one
14:38 battery oh no I didn't mean to hit
14:41 four damn did I not do it
14:45 right I ran into some issues that made
14:48 me a little bit worried but then I
14:50 remembered I had put in this same serial
14:54 number on a few other ones and so I
14:58 pulled those out and now it's
15:01 working so I also changed the cial
15:04 number just just to be sure and now it
15:07 should be when I go to
15:20 here okay so there we have it I'm change
15:23 the serial number just a little bit so I
15:24 think I have too many battery packs with
15:26 the same serial number so I need to go
15:29 through and make sure I get rid of those
15:32 and you know at first I misread the
15:36 serial numbers they are on here so it'll
15:38 be easy to put them back on I got this
15:40 battery pack out and let's try that one
15:43 so this eom has the wrong code in it so
15:45 I'm not even going to
15:47 bother dumping it I'm just going to go
15:50 into our already uh altered code and I'm
15:55 to select the individual digits
15:59 and change them to reflect
16:19 then do that check some 1976
16:26 so change that to a six
16:30 that was not a very big change at all
16:33 would I added probably subtract it from
16:39 7619 let's try that the da I almost
16:43 didn't save it you kind of need to do
16:46 that I make all sorts of little mistakes
16:49 like that when I do these things it's
17:08 oh oh battery quanity increase
17:17 okay did it detector
17:34 drat oh it did work it just took a
17:36 little bit and I had to reload the page
17:40 well that makes me feel a lot better now
17:44 work okay well now I can be confident
17:50 this It beeped with an error message for
17:52 a little bit and then it stopped so I
17:54 guess it it just takes a few seconds for
17:56 it to Ping the battery
17:59 and check if it's legit or
18:04 correct serial numbers programmed onto
18:06 the other ones I'll go back and put the
18:08 correct one onto this if I feel like it
18:11 so yeah putting the correct serial
18:15 number onto the battery or just so that
18:17 you don't have overlapping serial
18:18 numbers is important this one isn't the
18:20 serial number that I that it has on it
18:24 and it's fine it's just the issue was it
18:26 it it had an overlapping serial number
18:28 with a different one so you could even
18:30 reprogram them if you wanted starting at
18:32 one and going up to 8,000 or whatever
18:35 however many batteries you
18:38 have my tablet's about to die I saved
18:41 that well I saved that last
18:45 eom as U eom failure but well clearly it
18:51 failure yeah and to be honest if you
18:56 want you can just a avoid the whole
18:59 Hassle and not change the date if you
19:05 want but I like changing the date if I
19:08 can I hope you guys enjoyed this video
19:11 and I'm going to keep tinkering on this
19:13 and when I make the bigger video
19:15 there'll be more information there there
19:16 might be more stuff I need to
19:20 and also let me know if I forgot
19:23 anything and anything you'd like to see
19:24 in the video because the video is show
19:25 taking the batteries apart and putting
19:31 thanks for watching see
19:35 you no beeps oh it's
21:26 oh it's the first time it is actually
21:33 tested when I first came to
21:37 help their batter is only 2 hours and
21:41 usually once every few months their
21:43 power goes out for more than 2 hours so
21:47 elen these battery packs that were
21:49 redone in 2020 will
21:52 probably probably last another year or
21:54 so but we have new ones coming in for
22:07 it's a little bit after the credits of
22:09 these videos is kind of funny aren't
