00:00 okay today I'm going to walk through a
00:02 couple tricks and reflect and I've
00:04 noticed that every time I bring them up
00:06 there's at least a few people that
00:08 didn't know they existed and get really
00:09 excited so I thought I would do a little
00:11 video where I just walked through a
00:13 couple of them and if there's a few that
00:15 you didn't know about that's like you've
00:16 went though to start off here Crossing
00:19 out and highlighting text so Crossing
00:21 out text this is actually a pretty
00:22 Universal shortcut if you highlight it
00:24 and hit command shift X it will cross it
00:28 out like that so I like to use this for
00:30 things that I want to keep the
00:33 information but don't want to treat as a
00:35 completed to do it so let's say maybe I
00:40 have a habit list and
00:42 I didn't complete a habit but I don't
00:45 want the open checkbox
00:47 um let me actually just do an example of
00:48 that so let's say I have a to-do list
00:50 item and I want to exercise and let's
00:54 think at the end of the day I have not
00:55 exercised and I want to indicate that I
00:57 didn't but I don't want to leave the
00:59 open checkbox I can take this and just
01:01 cross it out and instead of acting as
01:03 completed I know that I just didn't do
01:06 it that day that's just one example
01:09 um and we can also highlight text so the
01:11 second part of this uncross that out
01:13 since we haven't completed it if I do
01:16 um just seeing test text here and then I
01:19 surround it by two equal sides it will
01:23 give it a highlight and again I don't
01:25 think this is reflect I think this is
01:26 actually just markdown but I'm not 100
01:28 positive on that but if you are someone
01:30 that wants to put in highlights like
01:31 that manually you can
01:33 okay so now we'll cross this one out for
01:36 and go on to number two creating a code
01:38 block so if you want to save code it can
01:41 be a bit awkward to
01:44 um just kind of paste it into the note
01:46 like this so if you want to create a
01:48 code block use the oh gosh I should have
01:50 looked up what this was called before
01:55 uh it's not an apostrophe like the
01:58 reverse apostrophe this is really
01:59 embarrassing I'm gonna have to look up
02:00 what this is called but uh usually it's
02:02 in the top left of your keyboard and if
02:05 you just do I think three and then a
02:06 space it pulled up this K block and
02:09 anything you type in here will be in the
02:12 um if you press enter it will just kind
02:14 of put a new line in and if you press
02:16 command enter it will exit the code
02:20 um so again sorry I don't know what that
02:21 you call I'll put it in the description
02:24 um and I'll actually try to include the
02:26 I know I always forget but I'll try and
02:28 include the uh shortcuts to all of these
02:31 um with this list in the description of
02:32 the video okay that's code block
02:35 next this one's pretty simple it is a
02:37 section line so for this one it's really
02:40 easy you can just do the dashes I don't
02:42 even know how many it is just do them
02:44 until it's three do them until you hit
02:46 the line super easy and then you can
02:49 write anything else underneath it so
02:52 this is good if you are
02:54 um I don't know anything like a report
02:55 or a uh I don't know maybe you want to
02:59 write an article with different sections
03:00 or something like that so if you want to
03:02 put in a horizontal line that is how you
03:06 dashes you don't even have to press
03:08 enter or anything or just so that
03:10 all right all right this is my favorite
03:14 um focus mode so that's the first part
03:16 so this is in our shortcuts menu and
03:19 I should number seven here
03:22 shortcut menu although I didn't some of
03:24 the youth are in here
03:26 um I need to add it so here if I just do
03:29 command slash it pulls up this menu here
03:32 and you can kind of see a bunch of
03:33 different ones but I need to add a
03:34 couple of these to it
03:36 okay going back up here Focus mode and
03:38 resizing so if I do command shift s
03:42 it takes away the sidebars here so this
03:45 is really good if I'm writing an article
03:47 I'll go into this Focus mode or maybe
03:50 I'm brainstorming the list where I
03:51 literally don't want to see anything
03:55 I'm getting kind of old so I like the
03:57 bigger text now so what something I
03:59 often do in this uh especially if I'm
04:00 writing an article I'll use the command
04:02 and then the plus sign and then it makes
04:04 this bigger and I don't know I just find
04:07 it easier to write out when I have
04:09 really big text like this so sorry I'm
04:12 um so and then you can even press Escape
04:14 do you exit it and of course you'll need
04:16 to kind of go back down in size there
04:20 um but this is one of my favorite modes
04:22 for uh you know any tasks that I need to
04:28 the resizing is just sort of a manual
04:29 thing so you don't have to go into Focus
04:31 mode you saw I was just doing this here
04:33 or even kind of resizes everything so
04:36 um again that's nothing in reflect
04:38 that's just uh the universal shortcut
04:40 but I do think it's very handy for note8
04:45 um split paint split pain sorry and
04:51 um so let me start off with the
04:53 um split pane so if I have
04:56 um a backlinked no so let me just go to
05:00 my brain depth I think it's empty but
05:03 um you see you can highlight or get a
05:05 preview if you just sort of hover on it
05:07 and then if you hold down command and
05:10 then click on that link
05:14 and then I can work out both of these
05:16 notes at the same time so I can
05:20 um take some meeting notes underneath
05:21 here if I'm doing a meeting for the day
05:23 and then in here I could maybe put
05:25 context for the reading this is a
05:27 breakdown so I wouldn't be doing this
05:30 this probably should have done this
05:31 example with a 2023 goals but regardless
05:34 um split pain is really nice if you want
05:37 to focus on this page you can maximize
05:38 it and go open this note fully or you
05:42 and I put in multiple tabs here
05:45 um I'm not actually going to show you
05:47 that but I did want to mention
05:48 occasionally people want to literally
05:50 have a second reflex tab
05:53 um I'm trying to think of a use case for
05:55 that where you would need that in a slip
05:56 but I'm sure there's many uh if you do
05:59 want to do that you can just open a
06:01 different browser tab you can either
06:03 either open a browser tab in addition to
06:06 this reflect app or I could just open
06:08 two different browser tabs and reflect
06:11 in the browser tabs and then you know if
06:14 um working with two split paintings on
06:16 Chrome you can do that and then you can
06:18 do split pane within reflect with the
06:20 split pane so lots of different things
06:23 um I typically will just use the split
06:25 Pane and reflect but some people do the
06:27 multiple browser window so did want to
06:29 mention that that is thoughtful
06:32 all right clap bullets
06:35 um I guess this is the last one because
06:37 I already did a shortcut that was just
06:38 kind of a cheat one
06:40 um so here I've got a bullet if I go
06:42 underneath it and I write some things
06:45 and some more things
06:47 and even more things
06:49 now this is kind of messy and
06:53 I don't want this list to just kind of
06:55 appear here in mine so I can just click
06:57 this top bullet and it collapses it
06:59 super simple look it again and it
07:01 expands it and if I were to have some
07:04 sub thing under things then it works the
07:08 same way with that one and parent flaps
07:11 um huge shout out to okavu on our team
07:13 he has done an excellent job with the
07:15 list editor I love the list
07:18 um this wasn't on my list either but you
07:20 can take things so you see this here I
07:22 can take this and I can reorder it and
07:26 um so this is the standard functionality
07:28 this isn't really a trick so it's not on
07:30 my list but is really cool some people
07:31 don't about it I really like dragging
07:33 and dropping things
07:34 and is there anything else I need to
07:37 mention around collapsing with I guess
07:38 more reasons why you would want to
07:40 collapse it like this is the most common
07:43 I will typically have a daily note so
07:46 let's pretend this is my daily now and
07:48 I'll have like a uh Daily Journal and
07:52 then I'll go through and I'll fill this
07:54 out but then again it looks really ugly
07:56 so then I'll collapse it and then I'll
07:58 have another note that is a to-do list
08:00 and that's you know
08:07 um again I don't want this to just like
08:08 appear in my notes I'm taking other
08:09 notes so I'll collapse that
08:12 um and this also works great if you're
08:13 doing like a daily log so
08:15 um if I have a meeting maybe like 9 A.M
08:21 Alex McCaw and then
08:24 we talked about some stuff
08:26 and some more Seth these are my meeting
08:29 notes under here and then I can collapse
08:30 and then you just have this beautiful
08:32 list as the day goes on and at the end
08:35 of the day like this would just look
08:36 okay I didn't even fill these all in and
08:39 I already am just like overwhelmed with
08:41 the mascara but then all of a sudden I
08:43 Collapse these and it's wonderful at the
08:45 end of the day you just have your list
08:47 laughing bullet points that is a big one
08:50 and document moved our list so hopefully
08:53 at least one of these was new and that
08:55 you found it interesting and useful
08:57 um I don't use all of these like I never
08:59 highlight text but I oftentimes cross
09:01 out text I don't actually save code
09:03 blocked but I'm also not a developer so
09:05 that makes sense and other ones I use
09:07 literally every single day like the
09:11 um the split panes and the Clapping
09:12 bullets and stuff like that so I hope
09:14 you found something new there's a lot of
09:16 great functionality in reflect and as I
09:18 uncover more of the idea I will do a
09:20 follow-up video so if you've discovered
09:22 something in reflect that you think not
09:23 very many people might know about
09:24 definitely leave it in the comments and
09:27 I will include it in the next one
