00:05even after years of becoming a
00:07minimalist I still have that urge to buy
00:09the next cool thing that comes out from
00:10time to time is it stuff that I need no
00:14usually not thankfully there have been a
00:16few things that I consider and ways of
00:18thinking that I adopted that have
00:20stopped the unnecessary spending and
00:22ultimately to stop buying things I don't
00:24need altogether here's how I stopped
00:27wanting to buy stuff
00:29but first if you're new to my channel
00:31thank you for stopping by here we talk
00:33about minimalism Frugal Living Tech and
00:35things of that nature so if that sounds
00:37good to you and to end up liking the

00:45let's get started I'm basically just
00:47going to present a list of things I do
00:49or think about before almost any
00:52purchase starting with the first one
00:54which is wait it out
00:56I'm always surprised about how much I
00:58passed on a purchase after a good
01:00waiting period if it's something that
01:02costs quite a bit of money I usually
01:04give myself about a 30 day waiting
01:07during this time I'm able to see if it
01:09fits in my budget look at reviews if I
01:11can but most importantly see if I even
01:16and I feel like this is just the perfect
01:18amount of time to wait it's enough time
01:20for the hype of a new product to die
01:22down and it's enough time for a lot of
01:24thought and consideration to go into it
01:27having this waiting period almost always
01:29allows me to avoid buyers remorse
01:32prevent those impulse purchases and of
01:34course it just builds a little bit of
01:36discipline with money next time you
01:38consider a big purchase sleep on it for
01:40a few nights and just give it some
01:42thought pros and cons list
01:45there's almost always a pros and cons
01:47list to be made when spending the
01:49obvious con is a loss of money and space
01:52in your living area but there are other
01:54cons too like if it's something that
01:57will need regular maintenance and money
01:59to go into it to continue using it
02:02and is it something that is generally a
02:04waste of time and very unproductive
02:06speaking from personal experience I can
02:09say every single time I've made a pros
02:11and cons list the cons usually far
02:14outweigh the pros aside from purchases
02:16and spending Amica pros and cons lists
02:19with any big life decision unsubscribe
02:22and avoid Temptations
02:25this is absolutely something that can be
02:27practically done rather than just a way
02:29of thinking algorithms and personalized
02:31ads are everywhere and there is at least
02:33a way to control it to an extent a while
02:36ago I made an effort to actively go into
02:38my email and unsubscribe in order to
02:40avoid those Temptations to purchase
02:43I had a slight desire recently to build
02:46a PC and as you could probably guess
02:48every single video on my YouTube
02:50homepage was about building PCS in just
02:53about every single ad on the sides of my
02:56browser were for PCs and to be honest
02:58this is so annoying to me besides
03:01unsubscribing from these tempting emails
03:03and ads I've made an attempt at just
03:05clearing my YouTube homepage and
03:07basically every other area where I have
03:10the temptation to spend or where I'm
03:12encouraged to spend on and off the
03:14internet basically anywhere we go we're
03:17encouraged to buy and spend money and to
03:20be honest sometimes it makes sense if it
03:22aligns with our values I think the point
03:24I'm trying to make is to take a little
03:25bit control where you can and do not
03:28give in to tempting impulse spending
03:35and this is most definitely something
03:37I've experienced firsthand I do want to
03:39address I fully understand that most
03:42Hobbies require a little bit of spending
03:44to even get started but try to
03:46understand where I'm coming from most of
03:48the times in my life where I wasn't
03:49regularly doing something like a hobby
03:52or just some sort of activity for fun or
03:55to keep me busy I really felt compelled
03:57to shop more just to find a little bit
03:59of joy that sounds incredibly sad when I
04:02say it out loud I can say from personal
04:04experience the times I wasn't skating as
04:06much and the times I wasn't just going
04:09outside as much I would find myself
04:10window shopping more often and just
04:13going out to eat for fun having a hobby
04:15or at the very least something I can
04:17fully immerse myself in is so important
04:19for me to kill that urge to spend
04:23after going to Europe I'm really
04:24convinced that spending money in itself
04:27is a hobby here in the US and I feel so
04:30strongly about this one because this
04:32genuinely might be the most effective
04:34thing on this entire list
04:36most of if not all the Hobbies I'd have
04:39are completely free aside from the money
04:42I needed to get started grabbing books
04:45from the library or going out to skate
04:47are basically free to do
04:49explore an affordable alternative option
04:53I'm pretty positive that there's almost
04:54always a more affordable version of
04:57everything and I know this video is
04:58about not wanting to spend money all
05:00together but this is still worth talking
05:02about whether it was buying something
05:04that I just needed used like my card or
05:07my camera or even just borrowing
05:09something I know I might only need once
05:11I've always found a more affordable
05:13option when I just looked instead of
05:16buying new books they're free at the
05:18library now I want to go to the library
05:20instead of buying them new I could say
05:23with confidence that while I do still
05:25occasionally have the urge to buy
05:27something new and exciting I genuinely
05:29enjoy the challenge of finding the more
05:31affordable option consider financial
05:35one of the easiest ways to prevent
05:37myself from spending is to Simply think
05:40about a financial goal I'm trying to
05:41reach because buying something that I
05:43don't absolutely need is the direct
05:45opposite of making progress toward that
05:48something I started doing a while ago
05:50that I found incredibly effective was to
05:52try and find excitement and watching my
05:55savings or Investments grow the same way
05:57a purchase would bring me excitement if
05:59I remember that every non-essential
06:01purchase is ultimately a delay in my
06:03financial goals it's usually a pretty
06:06easy decision right then and there
06:08putting these things into practice over
06:09a period of time have really just
06:11changed the way I think in really the
06:14way I am with purchases and I've
06:17ultimately stopped the urge to buy
06:19things and what I do it's usually a
06:21necessity and just replacing something I
06:24already have so I hope a few things from
06:26this video can prove useful for you
06:29anyways as always I appreciate the time
06:31you spent here and I appreciate you
