00:00these 12 books are rare and I guarantee
00:04I literally guarantee that you will not
00:06find them anywhere else on YouTube
00:07because they typically have zero Amazon
00:11reviewers the average publication date
00:13is 1989 and it has cost me thousands of
00:16pounds and thousands of hours to
00:20condense this year's research of 133
00:22psychology books into this golden stack
00:26full disclaimer if it's not abundantly
00:29clear this is not a beginner friendly
00:31video and I am not going to entertain
00:33you into an idle apathetic stage with
00:35lots of b-roll shots of me pretending to
00:37read in Scenic locations
00:40this is for the people who want to study
00:44and these are the books which personally
00:46matter the most to me in my mentoring
00:48work behind the scenes and that higher
00:51level effort after several years of
00:53already being on the inner work Journey
00:54so if you are at the initial stages
00:56don't worry I've got a 52 episode series
00:59which is actually my response to this
01:01question which as an aside is the
01:04inspiration for today's question I
01:05didn't do just 10 books I did 52 but
01:09these are my top 12 for the year anyway
01:12um throwing this in but we're doing the
01:1412 of this year pointers inner work
01:15Essentials already done that series it
01:17took me seven months I read 350 books
01:19and they're over the top 52. these are
01:21the top 12 from this year and my final
01:24point you are going to forget that you
01:26watched this video but the ideas and the
01:29insights in these books will last you a
01:30lifetime and if you only buy three of
01:34these books from these masterful
01:35teachers and I've done my job and I've
01:37tried to make it as easy as possible
01:39because as you can see I've split them
01:41up into little sub Stacks so we've got
01:45four sub Stacks we've got the
01:47self-healing stack we've got the
01:49therapist stack we've got the jungian
01:51slash archetypal stack and we've got the
01:54academic stack each of them made up of
01:57three books I'm not gonna make this a
01:59boring top tour video where you jump
02:01around in the timestamps we've got
02:02thematic themes for every temperament
02:07all of that out the way let's get into
02:09the video I'm going to move at a very
02:11quick Pace because time is limited and I
02:13just want you to buy these books I don't
02:15really care if my description isn't the
02:17best if you're interested you're going
02:19to see the book and you're going to go
02:20oh yeah I should buy that and then
02:21you're gonna buy the book
02:23let's start with a self-healing stack
02:28Trials of the Visionary mind and the
02:32Edom project in search of the magical
02:34other by James Hollis the reason that
02:37these three books are at the top of my
02:38list for 2022 is because this book helps
02:42people to deal with spiritual
02:43emergencies or spiritual Awakenings from
02:45a psychological perspective of one of
02:47the highest yet most accessible levels I
02:49found I recommended its glands multiple
02:52times this year the Primal wound is a
02:55book that I've heard before you've seen
02:56me hold it up before it is one of the
02:58best takes on addiction and personal
03:01development in the sense of the real
03:03psychological meaning of that term
03:06looking at the developmental stages and
03:08the different psychological
03:09abnormalities that lead us to
03:11traumatized addiction looping and third
03:14book of the three and the
03:16self-development the self-healing stack
03:19James Hollis Eden Project this is a
03:21wonderful jungian style take on the
03:25anima animus image or the internalized
03:27externalized feminine and masculine
03:29which keeps us looping around in all of
03:32those unfulfilling and potentially toxic
03:35relationships where we believe that
03:36we're going to find the magical other
03:38forgetting that we are indeed the
03:43that's the self-healing stack and this
03:46is the pace that we're moving at because
03:47I don't need to spend 50 minutes going
03:49through the video I just want you to buy
03:51the books Let's go to the therapist
03:53stack so this is the professional
03:55development stack if you're a Healer if
03:57you're a coach if you're a therapist
03:59these are the three books for you or if
04:01you're just someone who takes it very
04:02seriously you go from the self-healing
04:05stack to the therapist stack because if
04:07you want to learn how to heal yourself
04:08you might as well learn how to become a
04:10Healer I think I've just adjusted the
04:12lighting over there one second chance
04:17I'm gonna turn it up this way
04:21should remove that remote next time
04:23professional stack reality game by John
04:27Rowan this is the best single Source
04:29guide to humanistic counseling and
04:31humanistic Psychotherapy that I have
04:33ever encountered it has got such a
04:35wonderful bibliography and it is going
04:37to help you take your practice to the
04:40it's truly worth reading next book is
04:43core energetics by John piercos I think
04:45I'm saying that correctly this is a
04:48bioenergetic style approach if you know
04:49Alexander lowen and Wilhelm Reich this
04:52is the Forgotten third man who gets very
04:55little attention and when I read this
04:57book I cannot believe that I put this
04:58off for two years because I should have
04:59read it back in 2020 and somehow I
05:02didn't fantastic take on the energetic
05:04systems within the human body and how
05:06trauma freezes us up and the final book
05:11psychosynthesis Roberto assaigoli
05:14invented psychosynthesis as a
05:16transpersonal model of human development
05:18and healing but John Furman and angilla
05:21they studied with assayagoli and wrote
05:24this wonderful book which honestly is
05:27actually better than any of acai
05:28gurley's main texts it's one of the top
05:31reads of the year because it just covers
05:33the home theme of personal transpersonal
05:36spiritual self-awakening holistic
05:38development in such a high level and yet
05:41quite accessible to hard read but a
05:43definite read for any therapist or any
05:46that's two stacks completed we're now
05:49moving over to our jungian archetypal
05:52stack these are the books that deal with
05:54the jungian archetypes first we've got
05:56Marion Woodman's the pregnant virgin
05:58this book is wonderful for any woman to
06:01read and also every man to read because
06:03we look at the psychological stages of
06:05morality and wounding for the feminine
06:10buy this book I recommend it to many
06:12clients and my female clients they read
06:13this and they go holy
06:15that's incredibly triggering and yet
06:17it's incredibly useful why it's a good
06:20book and then we've got puer eternus by
06:23yeah yeah Marie Louise Von Franz
06:26sometimes forget it's quite a long name
06:28this deals with the internal the
06:30internal and eternal child archetype I'm
06:33moving at a very quick place I'm
06:34stumbling over my words the point is
06:38best book I found on the inner child and
06:42the developmental issues of the inner
06:44child which we can hopefully overcome as
06:46we become mature adults and finally
06:49Young's map of the Soul
06:52this is a book I also wish I had read it
06:54three years ago because it is the best
06:56single Source introduction to all of the
06:59youngin ideas that I've ever come across
07:02all the main bases are covered actually
07:04recommended someone on Instagram who
07:05asked me if you should read the red book
07:07without encountering youngin ideas of
07:09like no just don't read the red book I
07:11don't think it's that useful from those
07:13people who are doing any work for
07:14self-healing the red book actually put
07:17like how young you can see that
07:20I don't think it's worth reading
07:21honestly that's controversial to say I'm
07:23not a young Yen it reads like a
07:26potentially unhinged schizophrenic
07:28leaning Journal there's many mystical
07:30elements and there's many wonderful
07:32insights but it's just not worth reading
07:35from those people but a book like this
07:37is still absolutely fantastic because
07:41you'll encounter all the ideas around
07:42the archetypes and the unconscious and
07:44different elements of the psyche and the
07:45Persona in an incredibly readable but
07:48still incredibly Academic Way whereas
07:50young himself can be a bit difficult to
07:52go into but that's neither here nor
07:54there it's your choice that's the
07:56archetypal Stark now the final stack
07:57this is the academic stack we've got
08:01frames of Mind by Howard Gardner this is
08:04the theory of multiple intelligences
08:06this is breakout book where he breaks
08:09out and basically says yeah there's
08:10multiple intelligences the reason I'm
08:12bringing this book forwards and not
08:14necessarily because it's incredibly
08:16useful to keep returning to but the idea
08:18of Intelligence being a performance was
08:22really a huge unlock for me that any
08:24intelligence must be performed in a
08:27socially useful way to actually qualify
08:29as an intelligence so we think of things
08:31like emotional intelligence or spatial
08:33intelligence or musical intelligence
08:35they have to have a performative outer
08:38expression I spoke about this a few
08:40times on the channel and it's because of
08:42this book it's a really good one to read
08:44if you want to understand the complexity
08:45of how intelligence develops in human
08:50slow down for this one embodied
08:53spirituality in a sacred World by
08:55Michael Washburn if you haven't seen
08:57some of the titles maybe the lights
08:59bounced off I'm gonna put them down
09:01somewhere maybe in the description or in
09:03the comments you'll find out
09:05this is one of the best books on
09:06transpersonal psychology as it relates
09:08to spirituality is incredibly dense rude
09:10is high level Advanced book I've held it
09:13up before if you like the sound of this
09:14book I'm not gonna go into any of the
09:16quotes you can just see just how heavily
09:19highlighted this book was
09:23final book my real top read of the last
09:27synthetic Paradigm the untrodden path
09:30between Freud and Young by Robert Aziz
09:33this book basically tears down Freud and
09:35tears down Young from an incredibly
09:37critical incredibly harsh yet very well
09:39measured very academic style it's just
09:41so refreshing it's so nice to see people
09:45step out of cult mentalities and do
09:47original thinking in a way that
09:49encourages new conclusions and potential
09:52synthesis of otherwise tribal-like
09:54mentality is I'm not on Freud
09:57or young in particular but there needs
09:59to be more books like this because this
10:01again literally I think has zero reviews
10:03on Amazon and it's been slept on the guy
10:06did a really good job with this book and
10:09I recommend it to you and guess what
10:10we've reached the end of the video but
10:12it's 2022. I've got a little surprise
10:14for you we don't have just 12 books I've
10:17got another 10 so we've got 10 extra uh
10:2120 22 22 books and I'm gonna rapidly go
10:24through these because these are the ones
10:25that are also useful but didn't make the
10:28top 12. we've got the roots of war and
10:33Terror by Anthony Stevens and this is a
10:36psychological look into terrorism and
10:38acts of human violence in the post 911
10:40era it's really useful for understanding
10:43the human Shadow we've got Carl Rogers
10:45client focused therapy client-centered
10:50just an incredible like professional
10:52development book so you can work with
10:53your clients and more compassionate and
10:55yet more direct way we've got Marion
10:57Woodman's the ravaged bridegroom
10:59masculinity in women does what it says
11:02on the front cover we've got another
11:04James Hollis book the middle passage
11:06from misery to meaning in midlife this
11:09is not actually the book that I wanted
11:10to recommend I've picked up the road the
11:13wrong book all I wanted to recommend was
11:17swamplands of the Soul
11:19read too many James Hollis books don't
11:21read the Middle Passage read this one
11:23and say because this one is about
11:24spiritual malays and Dark Knight of the
11:26song this one covers the same themes
11:28which is why I picked it up but just not
11:30in the same level of depth or Clarity or
11:33interest they're both useful might as
11:34well rebirth for like ten dollars each
11:39Freud Adler controversy
11:41goes into great detail and the reason
11:43I'm holding this one up is that it
11:44allowed me to see a really useful piece
11:46of information then you can measure
11:49psychologists based on their clientele
11:51Freud had mainly high class clientele
11:53Adler had more world-class clientele
11:55there for the theories of their
11:57psychologies of pathology were very
11:59different and this is the book that
12:01really unlocked that perspective for me
12:04another John Perry book same author as
12:07Trials of the Visionary mind we've got
12:08the far side of Madness again dealing
12:11with spiritual emergencies we've got
12:13young Entourage by John Conga that talks
12:17about Carl Jung and boham Reich the
12:19bioenergetic often forgotten
12:22psychologist of the 20th century he
12:25talks about the energetic systems you
12:27can find out for yourself we've got
12:29archetype by Anthony Stevens second
12:31Anthony Stevens book
12:32this is a nice kind of in-between from
12:35transpersonal psychology and jungian
12:37psychology when it comes to the
12:41again every book that I'm holding up is
12:43my top books of all these 133 and
12:45actually read 184 books this year but
12:48about 50 of them but business and
12:49miscellaneous I'm not even including
12:51them these really are the top top
12:53percentage just consider buying them
12:58anatomy of human and destructiveness by
13:01Eric Fromm hopefully that just came up
13:04there this is a book about evil and
13:07destruction and violence and mutilation
13:09and all of the Shadow themes that we
13:11like to shy away from
13:13it's a classic study it's very difficult
13:14to read in terms of emotional content
13:17but if you're serious about
13:18understanding all of the most malevolent
13:20parts of humanity then read a book like
13:22this and we will finish in a paradoxical
13:24manner after having potentially devalued
13:27young based on the statements I'm
13:28actually going to recommend young this
13:30book is absolutely marvelous this is the
13:33structure and dynamics of the psyche by
13:36Carl Jung which is the top book that I'd
13:38recommend that you read from young as
13:40the essay on synchronicity embedded
13:43within this book and you already know
13:47if you want to read some young read this
13:49book after having read the books are in
13:51stack a Young's map of the Soul by
13:56that's my 2022 year in review video
13:58please just buy three of the books
14:01I've got frustration and I've got anger
14:03because I hate the fact that I'm gonna
14:05make this video and it's going to be a
14:06piece of forgettable
14:07entertainment when you could just go on
14:09Amazon and spend 30 and 30 hours of your
14:12life getting ideas that will change you
14:16I'm not angry at you I'm angry at the
14:18space itself and the format doesn't work
14:20I wish I were recommending these books
14:21to you in a private client session
14:23because then you take it more seriously
14:24but because I'm giving it away for free
14:25on YouTube it somehow doesn't shine as
14:28brightly but this has literally taken me
14:31thousands of hours and it is all I do
14:34I'm trying to give you the absolute best
14:40but if you want to continue the YouTube
14:42rabbit hole then here's the next YouTube
14:43video and we're just gonna go straight
14:45back down the distraction Avenue or
14:48hopefully not who knows but paradoxes
14:51continue there's the next video
