03:30 right well this video is a particularly
03:31 long time in the making uh given that I
03:35 went to Yamaha headquarters in Milton
03:37 keing I think about four years ago and
03:40 was involved in a uh situation where
03:46 about what my opinions were on the
03:50 Pacifica and what I would like to see in
03:53 a future Pacifica and I think there were
03:55 you know a bunch of people all around
03:57 the world that got involved in these
04:04 time I was saying they should do
04:07 something like what they've done with
04:08 the rep star which to me the rep star
04:10 showed that Yamaha could make a
04:12 confident um guitar that had some style
04:20 is my first time seeing one of these
04:23 ever I've got I think a few hours now to
04:28 video uh they've kindly sort of sent all
04:32 this uh for me to check out um and yeah
04:43 can uh don't consider this an unbiased
04:47 video because this guitar is being sent
04:49 to me um but I'll do my best
04:53 to kind of showcase it demo it I've also
04:58 got this is the Japanese one I've got
05:00 the Indonesian one at some point I'm
05:02 going to do a kind of
05:03 comparison uh but yeah nice
05:07 case stylish looking black Guitar let's
05:10 see how much of the DNA of the Prototype
05:13 which I think is a really great
05:14 confident guitar they managed to
05:16 retain so the the most important
05:19 question for me was how much of the DNA
05:21 of this prototype thing which I think
05:24 myself and many other people kind of
05:26 thought actually that is a cool
05:28 direction to take the specificate in how
05:31 much of that DNA can they sort of
05:34 maintain there's some subtle differences
05:37 but it's definitely taken most of the
05:40 hints from here and one of the things
05:41 that I got in the Instagram comments was
05:43 if they got rid of that pickup ring I'd
05:45 be more interested so I think in many
05:47 ways they might have even taken this in
05:49 the direction that people had hoped um
05:52 let me know your thoughts in the
05:53 comments but for me that's what I felt
05:57 like and this was exactly the
05:58 conversation that I I had had when I was
06:00 invited to go and talk to Yamaha about
06:02 this all those years ago um the the
06:05 thoughts that I had was that the pafic
06:07 brand in the UK at least I think it's
06:10 probably different in different parts of
06:12 the world uh is kind of synonymous now
06:15 with kind of decent entry level to
06:19 mid-price guitars and without an
06:22 aspirational model uh I feel like the
06:24 some of the sexiness of the Pacifica
06:26 thing is really not there anymore the
06:29 the olden days of the Pacifica is of
06:32 course you know Rich lnna an incredible
06:34 sort of Heritage this guitar taken a
07:01 if uh the the pickups I'm really
07:03 enjoying the sound of um these are
07:06 designed or developed with Rupert Neeve
07:09 designs now I think Rupert NE has been
07:11 uh dead for a while but I think Company
07:13 still lives on and of course Rupert NE
07:17 in the the audio world uh or you know
07:20 music audio world is very well loved um
07:25 but yeah the pickups to me seem to be
08:28 got a coil split here on the um Bridge
08:49 pickup but yeah I have to say I'm
08:52 enjoying the vibe of this instrument uh
08:55 I think for Yamaha Pacifica they've
08:57 really taken it in a much more
08:59 interesting looking Direction without
09:01 you know making something that looks
09:05 think Yamaha benefited here from the the
09:08 ianz AZ kind of what would you say if
09:12 this had come out at exact same time as
09:13 the ianz azed you you maybe think well
09:16 what is there to to differentiate uh why
09:20 would I choose this over the i z whereas
09:22 I think at this point now the Ian said
09:24 is fairly mature um and you know maybe
09:29 not at the Forefront of some people's
09:31 minds although I again I think a
09:33 perfectly decent comparator uh I think
09:36 for me the pickups in here are more
09:38 suited to me than something like the ibz
09:40 azed uh this doesn't have the luminlay
09:44 dots which the iones azed had and the
09:46 Prototype has um but goto Hardware goto
09:52 trim some interesting pickups which for
09:54 me I think are working quite nicely uh
09:57 I'm going to need some more time to kind
09:58 of settle into this instrument as an
10:00 idea I'm going to check out the
10:02 Indonesian one as well but as a first
10:05 impressions I'm I'm really enjoying it
10:07 the Frets feel good they're not quite as
10:09 rounded on the ends as the Prototype and
10:12 I think they look like they're slightly
10:14 Slimmer but I think they are stainless
10:17 uh they feel that way could this be your
10:20 Workhorse absolutely I think this
10:23 definitely for me takes the Pacifica in
10:29 having been there from the start and you
10:31 know said some of the things that I
10:33 thought like maybe stick this on there
10:35 do like basically you did with the
10:36 revstar in terms of something that's
10:38 confident and bold don't just you know
10:41 make a another typical Pacifica make
10:44 something a little bit different it is
10:45 kind of middle of the road compared to
10:48 the uh super strats of old but I think
10:51 possibly the world has moved on from the
10:53 super Strat you know fluorescent yellow
10:56 thing with a Floyd Rose as an idea um
10:59 and in any case you can still grab those
11:00 if you want the older version but this
11:02 neck feels to me quite a a nice kind of
11:07 um what would you say it's it's
11:17 definitely I'd say it's not quite as
11:19 chunky as the azed neck which is one of
11:21 the things about the azed which I think
11:23 might be a little bit Marmite feels to
11:25 me a little bit Slimmer maybe a little
11:28 bit uh more yeah towards the Slimmer
11:36 that I don't know what the color schemes
11:38 are like this black has a bit of Sparkle
11:40 to it that I'm not sure if you'll be
11:41 able to see but yeah I think they've
11:44 done a good job there to to my eyes uh
11:47 the real taste test I guess will be to
11:49 see if I play it on the channel much at
11:50 all um but I think as far as a modern
11:54 kind of strap type instrument can go and
11:58 as far as keep keeping some of that
11:59 Pacifica DNA but actually taking it
12:02 somewhere a bit new as well I think
12:03 they've done a good job in my opinion um
12:06 and it actually plays really nicely I'm
12:08 going to wait for that trm to settle a
12:10 bit more um I think it feels like it's
12:12 got nines on there at the moment but
12:15 yeah in general I think I'm happy with
12:18 that particularly seeing the potential
12:19 of what the Prototype could have
12:22 been I'm glad to see that they've
12:27 taken a lot of cues from it and even
12:29 things that I think people are going to
12:30 prefer like the no pickup ring um as
12:33 well as adjustment down here I think
12:38 yeah a really really tidy step forward
12:40 in the Pacifica range probably let's see
12:43 what the Indonesian versions like I'll
12:45 probably do another video on that on
12:47 issues of price I don't know how much
12:49 these are going to come in at I'm going
12:50 to guess that they're not going to be
12:52 cheap these are made in Japan this is
12:54 exactly what I was hoping that Yamaha
12:57 might do bring a a an well you know a
13:01 better made more wellapp appointed
13:03 Pacifica the range instead of the kind
13:05 of mid pric stuff you can see we got
13:07 goto Hardware here and a improved neck
13:11 joint I think that's the same as the
13:14 Prototype more or less and then goto
13:19 hardware and here rert NE designed
13:23 pickups which could be a thing revstar
13:33 inlays couple of string
13:36 trees so let's have a
