00:09 hey what's up everyone TJ here we're
00:12 back out in California riding Snow
00:14 Summit in Bear Mountain and I've
00:15 partnered up with snowboard magazine to
00:17 test some freestyle boards this week
00:19 today we're checking out the Never
00:20 Summer Proto Slinger and in this video
00:22 I'm going to go through all the tech and
00:24 I'll share my thoughts on how it feels
00:25 out here on snow as well let's check it
00:31 all right for reference before we get
00:32 into the tech I weigh around 150 pounds
00:34 I'm 5'10 and we're riding the Proto
00:36 Slinger 153 so this is going to be a
00:39 freestyle focused Ford on the never
00:40 summer lineup it's an asymmetrical twin
00:43 so it is a true twin but it does have a
00:46 designated heel side and Coast side edge
00:48 and the reason for that is that the heel
00:50 side side cut is a little bit deeper
00:52 it's going to throw you into a slightly
00:53 tighter turn on your heel side edge and
00:55 the idea with that is that uh with our
00:58 ergonomics just the way our bodies are
00:59 we can naturally get more leverage on
01:01 our toes so this is designed to help you
01:03 out on those heel side cars it also runs
01:05 never Summer's Shockwave rocker camber
01:07 profile so this is a rocker dominant
01:10 snowboard it's going to come through
01:11 with that rocker dominant feel you're
01:13 going to find that pivot point between
01:14 the feet really easy turn initiation
01:17 gonna have a slight benefit for floating
01:19 powder and also be a little bit less
01:20 catchy just with that natural rocker
01:22 Bend but with the Shockwave profile it's
01:25 a mix of rocker and Camber you're going
01:27 to get rocker between the feet with
01:29 extended camber zones underfoot to give
01:31 you those rocker benefits but allow you
01:33 to load up a little bit more energy and
01:35 tension in those camber zones you're
01:37 also going to find neversummer's power
01:39 grip side cut in the snowboard and the
01:41 way they do the side cut it creates some
01:43 mellow contact points right underfoot so
01:45 if you're in like icy firm conditions
01:47 that's going to help bite down and give
01:48 you a little bit more grip and a little
01:50 bit more control as well as their carbon
01:52 vxr laminate so there's a good bit of
01:54 carbon built into this snowboard to help
01:55 give it more energy more snap more pop
01:57 and the way that they laid it into the
01:59 layup is a in a v-shape there's multiple
02:02 v-shaped stringers going underfoot out
02:05 towards the contact point so that's
02:06 going to give you more response
02:08 transitioning from edge to edge also
02:10 going to stiffen the board up a little
02:11 bit torsionally to help make it a little
02:13 bit more Burly help you stay in control
02:14 and more variable snow conditions and
02:17 just overall give the board a little bit
02:19 more energy and the last couple things I
02:21 want to call out is the dampening
02:23 features you're going to find in this
02:24 snowboard it runs never Summers
02:26 elastomeric underfoot stabilizers is
02:28 what they call it they don't really give
02:30 a ton of information about about it but
02:31 they put some damping material underfoot
02:34 to help mellow out vibrations help you
02:36 with impacts when you're in the park
02:37 doing freestyle stuff as well as their
02:39 fds damping system which is kind of a
02:42 thin rubber foil built into the layup of
02:43 the snowboard to help dampen the whole
02:45 ride of the snowboard overall and
02:47 besides that the last thing I want to
02:49 call out is that you will find a
02:51 centered base in this snowboard which is
02:52 known to be a Harder Faster more durable
02:54 base material compared to an extruded
02:56 base you are going to want to make sure
02:58 to wax this board regularly so it stays
03:00 fast out here has a nice smooth Glide
03:01 but definitely is a higher quality base
03:04 and nice to find in this higher end
03:06 freestyle snowboard so that's going to
03:08 be a quick Tech breakdown for you guys
03:10 we're gonna get these laps going we'll
03:11 check back in here in a little while to
03:12 give you some feedback on how it feels
03:30 all right let's start off talking about
03:32 the flex I'd say the Proto Slinger is
03:34 going to be just a little bit on the
03:35 softer side a medium definitely a
03:37 pressable board but still going to be
03:39 capable and versatile for riding the
03:41 rest of the park as well whether you're
03:43 looking at focusing more on jib focused
03:45 riding or you want to hit the jumps as
03:46 well that Flex is also going to work
03:48 together with this rocker dominant
03:50 profile so you can see between the feet
03:52 here we have some pretty significant
03:54 rocker it's going to give it that
03:55 overall shape and feel that's going to
03:58 help to give you more leverage for
03:59 leaning into the nose and tail making it
04:02 much easier to get taller presses with
04:04 less effort which is always nice and
04:06 makes the board a little bit less catchy
04:07 also but you can also see those camber
04:10 zones right underfoot so that's going to
04:12 help the board load up more potential
04:14 energy give it a little bit more snap
04:16 and pop once you get used to the feeling
04:18 of loading this board up with that
04:20 rocker dominant shape it's not crazy
04:22 poppy but once you get used to loading
04:24 the tension up in this board it does
04:26 come through with some extra boost when
04:27 you're trying to get this board in the
04:28 air here I also want to talk about the
04:30 carving experience on the Proto Slinger
04:31 and there's three things I want to bring
04:33 up first is the asymmetrical side cut I
04:35 brought up earlier so that's that
04:37 slightly deeper side cut on the heel
04:40 side edge and it's not incredibly
04:42 noticeable just kind of has a pretty
04:44 natural feel to it with the way they
04:46 designed the board if you're really
04:48 paying attention for it you can notice
04:50 it but overall it's just comfortable and
04:52 helps to give you a little bit more
04:54 leverage on those heel side turns
04:56 similarly for the power grip side cut
04:57 it's not something that's really
04:59 noticeable most of the time but if you
05:01 do happen to get out there on a really
05:03 firm or icy day you are going to feel it
05:05 bite down a little bit more underfoot
05:07 but those added contact points are
05:08 pretty mellow and it's not something
05:10 that's going to be at the front of your
05:11 mind as you're riding this one and the
05:13 third thing which is one of the most
05:14 noticeable things when you're making
05:16 turns on this snowboard is the way that
05:18 rocker between the feet kind of creates
05:20 a pivot point so I think that makes the
05:23 board even more maneuverable super easy
05:25 to transition from your heel to your toe
05:27 side edge and and because that does give
05:29 it the overall rocker shape as soon as
05:31 you get this board on the edge it just
05:32 wants to turn so a super easy turn
05:34 initiation and pretty fun for carving
05:37 although this definitely isn't a carving
05:39 specialist you can definitely have some
05:41 fun cruising around the resort on this
05:43 board for some more mellow exploring and
05:46 I actually found this board to be pretty
05:48 damp as well typically with that rocker
05:51 profile and not so stiff Flex you'd
05:53 expect a good amount of chatter in the
05:55 tips but I feel like with all the carbon
05:58 and the dampening Tech in this snowboard
05:59 does a pretty good job mellowing that
06:01 out it's not something that's really
06:02 going to bother you or hold you back as
06:05 you're out there as far as Park laps and
06:07 freestyle focused riding goes the
06:09 producelinger is going to be a pretty
06:10 solid all-arounder if you're trying to
06:12 focus on jibs and more technical rail
06:14 tricks it's going to be capable of that
06:15 and progression on that side of things
06:17 but still going to hold it down on the
06:18 jumps as well although I would say if
06:21 you start to go to the largest features
06:23 in the park and you're getting in those
06:24 higher impact scenarios it might lack a
06:26 little bit of stability so I wouldn't
06:28 say necessarily recommend it for hitting
06:29 the biggest features in the park overall
06:31 this is going to be a nice board for all
06:33 around Park laps and a freestyle
06:35 approach to the mountain for those of
06:36 you that are looking for that rocker
06:37 dominant performance I wouldn't say this
06:39 is a beginner board but once you've
06:41 gotten past those early stages of riding
06:43 and you've got the fundamentals down and
06:45 you're trying to focus more on freestyle
06:46 progression this is going to be a great
06:48 choice really regardless of your skill
06:50 level outside of that even for you more
06:52 experienced Riders it's a super fun
06:54 snowboard just has a natural comfortable
06:57 feel to it right from the first lap I've
06:59 spent a good amount of time on this
07:00 board and the funslinger previously and
07:02 it's always one that I enjoy right from
07:04 the first lap so if you're looking for
07:06 something like this check out the Never
07:07 Summer Proto Slinger I'm going to have
07:10 this board linked down in the
07:11 description below if you want to read
07:12 more about it drop a like if you got
07:15 some value subscribe to the channel if
07:17 you're new here I appreciate all of you
07:18 guys thank you for watching and we'll
07:20 see you in a new Board review next time
